After months of speculation of whether or not he'd leave on September 1st, Bryan confirmed this weekend that he found that WWE actually hold an option year in his contract. The pipe dream of him working at Wrestle Kingdom or the ROH MSG show can officially be put to rest.

I mean it's all moot anyway as he's flat out said recently that he was extremely likely to re-sign for a whole host of reasons. But yeah.

New Japan have it pretty much spot on. 90% of their regular cards are tag matches with maybe one or two singles matches at the top of the card that feel way more important because they're being properly featured. But the tags aren't a waste of time - they actually advance the story in a way that doesn't give away anything about singles match they're building to.

A perfect example from last year - they were building towards Okada defending his title against EVIL. 10 man tag, Chaos vs. LIJ. Gedo and Naito were the legal men. EVIL hits Okada with Everything Is Evil at the same time Naito hit Tranquilo on Gedo. EVIL puts his foot on Okada's chest while Naito pins Gedo for the win.

So they just showed EVIL can hit his finish from OUTTA NOWHERE and leave Okada knocked out for a 3 count, but didn't have their champion actually eat a clean pin against his upcoming opponent...something WWE does regularly.

Would explain why he hired lawyers for his contract talks since he hinted WWE likes to hide stuff in contracts or make certain things as vague as possible.

Another rumored match for WWE's Evolution PPV:

SPOILER: show
Asuka vs Lita

Michelle McCool also rumored to be appearing at the event.

If true, all three of the rumored and announced matches so far are probably going to be train wrecks in terms of match quality. Also all 3 big matches so far involve a part timer.

SPOILER: show

Mr. Nerfect 08-21-2018 01:23 AM

Sasha Banks and Bayley get traded to SmackDown for Asuka because Stephanie goes over Kurt's head and wants a monster to put Ronda down. Ronda vs. Asuka for the Raw title and the Four Horsewomen in a four-way for the SmackDown one. It's not hard. Instead of blowing your load with Alexa vs. Trish, build to it, and do Trish vs. Mickie at the PPV, with Bliss talking shit about Trish at some point. Do that at Mania. Bliss and Nia can "blow-off" their issues at the PPV. The Bellas vs. The Iconics. Shayna calls out Nattie for her best friend bullshit with Ronda. Ember and Ruby Riott. You've got 7 matches right there. Do Kairi Sane vs. Io Shirai in a dream match for the NXT title, MYC Winner vs. MYC Winner. Get the rest of your babyfaces and maybe throw in some NXT girls and Toni Storm and do a multi-person tag to kick things off. Why do they always make things hard for themselves?

Because that is too few women with huge titties, preferably fake, and way too much wrestling for a wrestling show. You need a squash opponent for Rousey, a bunch of bickering, and showcasing the "prettier" women and girls who haven't been working for you in years. That's what wrestling fans want to see.

Bischoff's greatness pretty much boils down to Ted Turner not caring at all about how his money was spent and striking the iron with the nWo at literally the best time possible.

He gave Vince a taste of his own medicine by raiding all his top stars but also meant WCW now was the one dealing with all the baggage associated. It let him win the short term but as a side effect, Vince got a clean slate to work with for the future.

According to PWI, WWE has been aggressive in their targeting of Major League Wrestling trying to poach as many notable talent and backstage staff as possible.

Wale's appearance at 205 Live last night was part of those plans and likely means the end of MLW's Walemania events during Mania week.

We are told that of late, WWE has made overtures to talents and behind the scenes staffers who have been working for MLW, which airs nationally on BeIN Sports, in attempts to bring them in. Wale being used last night wasn't a coincidence and was seen as an extention of those efforts.

While everything is still up in the air, the odds of MLW running another Walemania event over Wrestlemania weekend (which was the plan for next year in New York City) are not looking good at the moment.

Ol Dirty Dastard 08-22-2018 09:57 PM

Fuck they are ruthless. I get it though. Honestly think they don't have faith in their product so they're snuffing out any competition before anyone can even be 5 years away from nipping at their heels.

Jordan 08-22-2018 11:20 PM

Wale doesn't mean anything to me so go ahead and take him if he wants to go. I don't understand why WWE isn't running spot shows with under card talent that they don't use on TV to keep them fresh. Also NXT has to much talent under wrap that I can't understand why they don't have he NXT main roster doing nationwide touring all the time and keep the trainee's circuit in Florida. I would even consider offering old school style contracts with a small guarantee but with the percentage of the house being the main source of income for the workers. Get that old school style of competition before you get the fat guarantee on Raw or Smackdown.

Pretty much because of cost related reasons. They already do limited touring with NXT's main roster and those preparing to be TV ready but costs would skyrocket if they went full time with touring.

House shows are already the main source of income for the majority of WWE's main roster. Only exception is the Cruiser division since WWE doesn't really use them for house shows.

This is one of the most interesting "what ifs" in wrestling history to me. At Starrcade '97, it's pretty obvious that Hogan isn't a team player. This is about when his contract is up. He doesn't sign it until June '98, but technically Bischoff could have let Hogan go and it would have been that. Sent a message to the boys fucking around. Hogan's ego was so vulnerable at the time, I guarantee he's talking to Vince by the new year, and I bet Vince is frothing to get Hogan back.

Austin was a man possessed at this point, but he wasn't the hottest thing on the planet. If Hogan comes in, there is a very good chance that he is booked to win the Royal Rumble and go against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XIV. What does this do to Austin? If Austin is fucking around with HHH on the undercard or whatever, what does that to do to his mentality and his drive? Does he get pissed off at Vince? Does he want to leave the WWF? What sort of chain reaction does Hogan coming in make in WWF?

There's a possibility that it makes Austin hotter. There's a possibility that Hogan getting the push revolts people who were getting behind Austin, and that Austin's sheer quality of performances switch people over from Hogan, and that by the time you get to SummerSlam '98, Hogan vs. Austin is what the world wants to see. It's possible that it somehow makes everything better. It's probably more likely that it fucks everything up for Vince. When Vince wants a guy in position, he can get very stubborn about it. He's always wanted Hulk Hogan back and in the spot. It's possible that he doesn't go anywhere near where he should with Austin, and that everything melts down. Austin might never get as hot as he did, and he might have lost the fire to be the best and actually settled as his own "what if" in wrestling's history.

What if Austin gets pissed off at Michaels and Hogan taking up the spotlight? What if he goes back to WCW. What if Bischoff sees the money in Austin coming in and beating the living piss out of him every week? What if Austin brings in Jim Ross, and JR focuses all his efforts onto bringing in the next class of wrestling star to WCW, and a lot of those OVW signings -- John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, Shelton Benjamin, Brock Lesnar -- they end up in WCW? What if Kurt Angle comes into WCW instead of the WWF?

Could be one of the weirder turnarounds in wrestling history. It depends on a lot, but really, Hogan going back to the WWF in early 1998 might have changed so much about history.

Why doesn't Superman kick Lex Luthor's ass in every single confrontation? How can that puny bald human ever believably get the edge over a literal space god?

You're trying to use good storytelling to justify bad storytelling. Lex Luthor doesn't walk up to Superman and kick him in the head and put him in a chinlock for 10 minutes in a fair fight. Andre the Giant wasn't Lex Luthor. Bobby Heenan was Lex Luthor. There's a reason Hulk Hogan and Bobby Heenan didn't go Broadway at WrestleMania IV.

I am not concenerned about Kevin Owens but I really really want to know what they've got in store for him next. I love KO/Elias vs Cena/Bob at Super Showdown but does this mean Cena is going to only appear on the show or will they hype with an angle on Raw? I would love to see another KO/Cena feud. I just need high profile KO stuff so do you.

Speaking of Super Showdown. I assume tickets are on sale for this right? I've not seen any reports. Triple H said "80,000" people which is totally not going to happen. UFC drew a little over 50,000 I believe at that stadium the night Ronda lost it all.

I don't remember hearing things about Sasha/Charlotte not getting along

GD 08-24-2018 03:23 AM

I have conflicting emotions about both women. Alexa, who overcame her eating disorder, became a body builder and eventually made her way to NXT. The rumor mill suggests that she's fake and slept her way to success. Sasha, a lifelong fan of the business, has also overcome adversity (physical and family) to reach where she is. That being said, she has had fall outs with fellow talent with respect to her "passion" / reputation.

slik 08-24-2018 03:24 AM

Sasha seems like she would be 'miserable' to be around behind the scenes tbh

GD 08-24-2018 03:31 AM

The juice: https://www.thesportster.com/wrestli...eal-life-heat/

Quote:

Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks have been linked for many years in their careers. Both ladies were stable mates in the BFF faction with Summer Rae. Following the split, Banks and Flair continued to thrive on their own as they climbed the ladder in NXT. Charlotte got to the top first when becoming NXT Women’s Champion defeating Natalya in a classic match to truly launch her career.

Banks feuded with Charlotte and made it personal in promos. Some of the content implied that the Flair last name is why Charlotte was a success rather than her own talent. Sasha even placed a sticker over Charlotte’s t-shirt to make it her own. This upset Charlotte behind the scenes as she felt Banks was being a bad friend to her with the surprise attacks on the microphone and in the wardrobe department.

Flair even wrote about it in her book saying she felt betrayed and implied that Sasha was jealous of her success. The two eventually made peace as part of the unofficial Four Horsewomen group. Charlotte and Banks shared many historic matches like the first women’s PPV main event, Hell in a Cell and a few other accolades. There is a mutual respect today after their prior instance of heat.

Interesting.

I get being frustrated and feeling like people who don't deserve to get ahead, get ahead. It sucks. At some point though you have to not let your frustration/anger weigh you down though. That doesn't help anything.

Like that old Buddhist proverb:

“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of harming another; you end up getting burned.”

GD 08-24-2018 03:42 AM

Well, if you are not angry or frustrated, Drew McIntyre is going to cut a promo on how complacent you've gotten.

It is so true. But the way our society functions, you can't let your guard down or folks will take you for granted and walk all over you. Resentment, hatred and anger do hold you back from reaching your true potential. I can attest to that.

Big Vic 08-24-2018 08:32 AM

I disliked Sasha ever since she was pretty much like "fuck the fans" who want autographs. Said something of that nature to Sam Roberts on his radio show.

Jordan 08-24-2018 08:40 AM

I see why you guys would think Sasha is tough to be around backstage. But I see her point on Charlotte and Bliss completely. Sasha is the boss, she can out work any woman in the company and truly worked her way to the top only to be set aside for new toys. Charlotte had it made for her, the fact she is who she is, is why she is where she is. Not to take away from her talent because she is a damn good wrestler one of the best in the company, but she didn't have to dig nearly as deep as other girls who didn't have a golden last name handed to them on a championship plate. I do have to say though that being gifted the last name Flair would be a curse on about anyone else and Charlotte had to match that name and has greatly exceeded expectations. Bliss however, a cutie no doubt and has clearly worked hard as well but if I were in Sasha's shoes I would likely feel the same way. Bliss was given a main spot she didn't work for it in the same way Sasha and Bailey or even Charlotte did. When she was given the big spot on Raw I was like "whoa that's a step back". However she has stepped up big time and pulled it off much more than Carmella. However it's annoying to look at the posters and see two or three blonde women and know that look is simply what Vince and company like and that is the reason they are there. If I was in the locker room I'd be team Sasha all the way. We'd be friends, and when she was upset I'd go get her food from catering or massage her shoulders. I'd become her boyfriend eventually and try to make things okay. Because I'd care about her feelings, even though she seems to live in her own drama, it's one based off a true story.
