MOONEY: Tatanka plans on making THIS your last stance.

MARTEL: I have some...RESERVATIONS about that.

Then he mentioned that Tatanka was still outside somewhere SCALPING tickets. Sheesh.

Not quite sure why, but the concept of the Natural Disasters is cracking me up right now.

I decided i need more wrestling in my life so i just resubbed to the Network after about 9 months.

Such a simple time. All Slaughter needed to do for the face turn was say "I WANT... MY COUNTRY BAAAAACK!" and all was forgiven.

Welcome back.

You should try this Wrestlemania skim. I started at 6, but I've been going through and watching only whatever interests me between the bumpers. It's been pretty delightful. Might do it with Summerslam too.

I might, but if i do, i'll start at the WM they had the tournament. Was that 4?

I might just subject myself to Backlash 2018 again and then cut myself later.

That was indeed 4.

Hogan talking about the possibility of the WM8 main event being his last match. Sheesh.

There is an Alexa Bliss collection??????

Fuck i might drown in my own sperm tonight.

Anybody Thrilla 06-26-2018 12:18 AM

All sorts of collections now.

I remember teaching myself to play a version of Sid's theme song on the keyboard when I was a kid.

RP 06-26-2018 12:23 AM

Ever since MITB, I keep reading and hearing about how Alexa is not that good of a wrestler. One of my top 5 favorite Womens matches in the last 10 years or so is Bliss vs Lynch Tables match at I think Backlash. That was a really good match.

Anybody Thrilla 06-26-2018 12:29 AM

Bliss is good. I've been arguing that here for far too long now.

Anybody Thrilla 06-26-2018 12:35 AM

A ton of shady finishes at the WMs around this time.

Anybody Thrilla 06-26-2018 12:44 AM

They literally put "Finkus Maximus" on Howard Finkel's nameplate. 9 is gonna be a rough one.

Odd seeing Luna Vachon with HBK.

She's in an odd positon.

She's better now than most girls that the company has propped up in its history, but it doesn't help that she's surrounded by peers that are some of the best in the entire history of women's wrestling.

If Alexa was where she is now in, say, 1991 or so, she would have no equal. Now, she's about as average in the ring as Hunter... just without the reign of terror of eating up two hours of TV time weekly, being in the main event every week, being married to Shane, or having some dumb stipulation where she can't be made to look weak in video game promos or video packages, and constantly being talked up like one of the greatest of all time until it was willed to truth instead of being actual fact. However, when she first started appearing on TV and having regular matches, she was total shit.

She's kinda the new Trish Stratus. Remember, Trish was awful too at the start. She got better over time, and eventually became reguarded as arguably one of if not the best of her generation. She worked at that. Alexa is too. And it helps that Alexa can promo and play up her snotty bitch role to a T.

When all is said and done, Alexa has the potential to be remembered for so much more than a nice ass in hotpants. She's not great. Yet. But if her career keeps moving how it's moving, and she keeps improving how she's improving, and barring any crazyness in her future, in 20 years or so, we're going to be talking about her like we talked about Lita in her prime.

RP 06-26-2018 01:24 AM

To be fair, i'll always remember Alexa for being a nice ass in hotpants.

Also to be fair, the only time i've talked about Lita in the last 5 years is when I talked about ECW guys peeing down her throat.

The Hardy's return at WM is one of the most watched WWE YT vids of all-time and WWE didn't really do anything with the Hardy's after WM33 for months.

It may not go well for them, but it may just be a bucket list thing. If it doesn't work out, there's always a home for them back in Japan.

Was just thinking what gimmick WWE could use at Extreme Rules to actually make it "extreme"... it's a tough go with the parameters they have set. Plus I don't see a main event feud that is in need of "extreme rules" right now. Maybe something with Nia/Ronda/Bliss would qualify as heated enough to warrant "extreme rules"... But everything else isn't ready for the jump past a standard match. AJ/Nakamura would've fit in better at Extreme Rules but they had to chain book that match all spring.

Based on some highlights, seems he lied about when he found out about the investigation and threw the WWE under the bus for firing him but also mentioned how poorly the police handled the investigation overall.

Also admitted the stuff about him being hated backstage was true.

Also revealed what was the original plans for the Enzo-Nia storyline and the RAW 25 stuff that got tossed out.

It's worth a listen. Enzo has undeniable charisma, he's also a character Vince McMahon seems to have been really fond of, so he's of interest. I don't know what he did or didn't do but there isn't enough evidence to label him or convict him of anything. From the way he explains it there was little more he could've done, by the time the story hit the press WWE was going to release him. People say that he knew about it in advance but he says while he did hear of the story there wasn't any person named in the accusation only that the person was a wrestler. The girl who accused him is in and out of institutions and seems to have a history of false claims (so I've read in the past, I think by Meltzer) so to me Enzo should be brought back in after some more time has passed.

Like with countless others, I think WWE would want them only because they're making noise elsewhere, and that's attention that WWE isn't getting. It's why they signed CM Punk in the first place, but had no idea what to do with him outside of the previous developmental. All the way back then, he was a name on the indys, and WWE wanted to stifle that. It has only gotten worse over time; the company trying to basically hoard non-homegrown talent. KENTA, Chris Hero, Danielson, Samoa Joe, Prince Devitt, AJ Styles, Bobby Roode, Austin Aries, etc., etc. Pete Dunne is pretty fucking over in spite of being barely seen stateside, and he'd prob'ly be pushed like a goddamn monster in Japan or something... but he's in WWE so others can't have him. Same with Ricochet. He definitely doesn't wrestle in the "WWE style". They wouldn't have given two shits about Will Osprey or Zack Sabre Jr. if they weren't getting buzz on a grand enough scale elsewhere.

And now, it's only getting worse with WWE trying to make inroads in areas they clearly have little interest in. Why are War Raiders in NXT or Gallows & Anderson on the main roster when the company clearly has little focus on tag teams in spite of sitting on a treasure trove of premade AND homegrown teams? Some other promotion wants to center around lucha and "flippy shit"? Fuck it, let's make the CWC and try to sign the most popular guys! Britain swelling into a new hotbed of wrestling? Let's start another offshoot and get some of their bigger names under our umbrella!

As a small consolation, they are able to do what they do well (for the most part) in NXT, but it goes back to my "fool's errand" critique about signing all this talent and even possibly building them up over time down in Florida just to piss any momentum away in short order on national TV after a call-up. Then sit on them until a few years later at a post 'Mania housecleaning. Instead of a potential ROH Champion or someone who dethrones Nick Aldis as a more popular/credible NWA Champion, that guy just sits at catering week after week after week or *maybe* appears on TV to job every so often; being buried by a large paycheck and the "possibility" of a push as a dangling carrot.

I feel similar. But watch; in the next year or two, WWE will "want him" for reasons that I just covered.

Mix of him becoming hugely popular for running the first Spring Break show two years ago and WWE scooping up bigger named indie stars left and right in recent years.

He's basically become like Cody with how well he's built up his brand name the past couple of years. The main difference is Janela built his up purely from the indies while Cody had his WWE career as the foundation for his.

LOL. Can't say I'm not excited, that will please the 13 year old in me who used to have a geo cities site and traded tapes.

Jordan 06-27-2018 11:50 AM

I think I'm going to create an instagram blog of sorts for my pro wrestling adventures this summer and beyond if I stick with it. I've always been reluctant to go to shows since my brother moved out of state. I don't have many friends who like wrestling and the ones who do I dunno, just not my favorite friends and plus they only like WWE. My GF grew up watching wrestling with her brother and playing the videos games so I can get her to watch some big shows with me on the network. I'm going to Takeover Brooklyn with her, but I've bought GA tickets to MLW Battle Riot which has Low Ki vs John Morrison and a 40 Man Battle Riot featuring Pentagon Jr. (that's really all I care about although there are a lot of others announced). And I bought a single GA ticket to Joey Janella's Lost in New York. Lot's of shows going to Melrose Ballroom in Queens so I'm excited to be a part of something like that. Maybe that will become a new hot spot in the wrestling world. I have this idea I will make a friend or two at the shows but who knows. Every ROH show I went to back in the day was filled with trolls so I'm sure this will be the same.

You think this push is an accident? I think they support Styles as "the man" on Smackdown pretty solid.

Lock Jaw 06-27-2018 01:56 PM

Over a year as champ is quite the long time, though.... especially when you are actually on the show. They had to have Punk turn heel mid-reign so they could extend some more stories out of him. They would have to do the same with Styles in order to get him a reign that long.

Jordan 06-27-2018 02:08 PM

I think that is doable, and kind of likley. AJ is better as a heel for sure, so when the time comes for Bryan to move back up... only one good option there.

Jordan 06-27-2018 02:08 PM

I think that would mean AJ holding the stap til Mania, don't know exactly but thats about a year and a half.

Jordan 06-27-2018 02:10 PM

Yikes. CM Punk's reign was 434 and AJ is only at 133. He could do it.

Just finishing July in my rewatch of all the WWF 1984 t.v. Cyndi Lauper is easily the best use of a celebrity in the history of the company.

Lol I defy you to find a better female promo than this. She was really good.

Stuff like this is why 1984 is my favourite year.

 at the story of how Brooklyn Brawler managed to get a WWF Championship match in MSG. Pretty much happened due to Vince having a random brain fart and Ken Shamrock being injured at the worst time possible.

"Okay so we're wrestling in Madison Square Garden and we're having a battle royal. I'm in the battle royal but I'm just a guy to get thrown out, this and that. All of a sudden Ken Shamrock who was scheduled to win the battle royal got injured in her sternum, his chest he got injured," Brooklyn Brawler said on Prime Time with Sean Mooney.

After Shamrock experienced his injury, Brawler said producers of the battle royal went to Vince McMahon and told him Shamrock couldn't win the battle royal because he was hurt. "Put Brooklyn Brawler over, he's local," Vince McMahon replied without realizing he had promised a WWF World Heavyweight Championship shot to the winner of the match.

When Brooklyn Brawler reminded Vince McMahon he promised a World Title shot at the next Madison Square Garden show, Vince McMahon looked at him and said: "You got your match" ...

Brooklyn Brawler said the Shawn Michaels back then was much different than the one we know today. He assumed Michaels would reject the idea of working a match against him, especially at MSG. To his surprise, HBK was accepting of the idea asking Brooklyn Brawler what moves he could do and putting the match together right from the start ...

"I remember The Undertaker walking into the room, into the dressing room and looking at the line-up and it shows me in the main event, he's underneath me and he goes, 'what the f--k is this?' That's what he said. I just said, 'it's not me I didn't do it!' Because nobody wants heat with The Undertaker. But I tell ya, my career, you couldn't even write this the way it happened."

Pretty sweet find. Ever wonder where Bray Wyatt got his gimmick from? One Man Gang had a gimmick in 1984 Florida Championship Wrestling called "Panama Gang". During that time Dusty Rhodes and Mike Rotunda were both in Florida. Pretty crazy resemblance

That is exactly his look. Weird.

Bray mentioned in the past that his gimmick was inspired by Waylon Mercy's gimmick. Wouldn't be surprised if Bray latter took some added inspiration from One Man Gang's gimmick considering Dusty was in charge of NXT and probably remembered that gimmick.

"It became natural for me," Wyatt said. "If you would have thrown Husky a microphone and said 'talk,' it would have been wrong."

Wyatt said as a child he had a really intense childhood friend named Bray White. White was in a car accident when he was a child and lost all feeling in his face, rendering him difficult to knock out. He said that's how he came up with the "Bray" part of his name, and "Wyatt" came from Wyatt Earp.

The "Family" part of the Wyatt gimmick was almost certainly inspired by the Army of Darkness, that was fronted by Kevin Sullivan. They feuded with Dusty and the Windhams.

David Bixenspan brought it up on the Between the Sheets podcast so I decided to check it out since I haven't seen much Florida wrestling and wow lol. I'm trying for the life of me to find a promo.

Jim Cornette Experience is on Vader plus a deep dive into OVW 2000. Just downloaded it. Sounds like an awesome episode.

Bad News Gertner 06-28-2018 09:38 AM

Just noticed this: all the wrestlers in Jim Cornette's Camp Cornette stable in the WWF are now dead: Bulldog, Owen, Vader and Yokozuna. Plus Fuji.

Not to them. Roman Reigns is a three-time Universal Champion in their world. Just like Randy Orton is the youngest WWE Champion and Dolph Ziggler is a former two-time WWE Champion. You don't need to hold the other World Title to be a Grand Slam Champion in their eyes. The belts are literally interchangeable.

I've always wanted to learn more about OVW. Can't wait to jump into this.

Just finished it. Really great episode.

Is it because Bischoff is full of shit on his podcast and Meltz is fact-checking him and Bischoff is all "you weren't there, maaaan?"

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-28-2018 05:39 PM

the long and short of it-- yes.

Mr. Nerfect 06-28-2018 05:40 PM

I would love to hear a Cornette deep dive into 1997 WWF. The Attitude era is not his favorite time period, but I'd actually like to hear more succinct stories about the storylines at the time, and more detailed accounts of Russo's actual ideas, as opposed to obtuse ranting about him.

Either Vince didn't actually think WWE's stocks would have shot up this much or was really desperate for money for XFL 2.0 since he cost himself over $140 million in selling his stocks way too soon.

Quote:

If Vince McMahon had known this was coming he’d have surely waited to sell so much stock.

In December, he sold 3,340,000 shares at $28.68 per share to raise $95,791,200 for the XFL start-up. If he sold those shares today at market value (and if he did sell, it would actually be at slightly below market value) he’d have raised $236,672,400 so had he just sat right for six months he could have retained far more stock while raising far more money, and funded a ton of XFL early losses. But either way, he’s at the stage where he can afford however large the losses will be at first. It’s just a decision of giving up or not giving up on the belief it’ll make it long-term. It’s long past the point that money will ever be an issue with him or the XFL.
