938,000 this week for Dynamite.
HHH has won. |
938k compared to 2.23 million for a 3-hour Raw on a more competitive night of television? AEW is fucking kicking ass.

I wonder what replaces Dynamite and Rampage when WWE takes their slots? WCW Nitro and Thunder or NXT and Level Up?

1.96 million for RAW this week
I have a feeling AEW is going to romp to victory again this week.
It’s not about how many viewers you have, it’s about how many you didn’t lose from the previous week. Whether this is sheer volume or percentage will be decided on a basis on what makes AEW look better.
Tbf over a long enough time line...yeah. retention rate will be the deciding factor. (Assuming theyre both hemorrhaging at the rate claimed with is unlikely.)

That’s down from the second one that did 527k and the first one that did 704k. There’s a trend there. |
Two of WWE’s 3 shows on A&E Sunday did better ratings than Battle of the Belts.
Biography (Lex Luger): 586k Rivals (WWE vs. WCW): 488k Smack Talk: 235k The block runs from 8-11:30pm. |
Tony seems to think that droves of fans want to watch his indy dream matches. Claudio vs Jay Lethal is a fine match but it didn't draw anyone that wouldn't have watched Battle of the Belts otherwise.
He's lost in the sizzauce.

I am actually excited for where WWE will be in a few months once all of the effects of new leadership have set it. It's a really exciting time because Vince and Nick did focus the roster down so much that the people they are using are all for the most part quite good. And Triple H has so much more up his sleeve I'm sure. I keep thinking about how exciting NXT was in the early days of it's expansion.
It's crazy that this shift has happened in WWE while at the same time chaos reigns in AEW backstage it seems. I don't know exactly how accurate that reporting is but it's obvious something is wrong because Tony is a total spazz and the booking and hiring has been ridiculous. Not saying I disagree with everything, I love Mox as champ and blood every week, I don't mind it. But there is a lot of bad decision's that have been made and continue to be made. |
TK and AEW will definitely need to make some monumental changes. WWE was already a behemoth that, in all likelihood, will never be dethroned for a litany of reasons.
However, now you have someone at the helm who has an amazing mind for what works on TV and what doesn't. The Behemoth is getting behemoth-er (great word, bigly word even) and they will need to do way better than they currently do. Very reminiscent of when WCW started to nosedive. One of my issues with WCW was their production. Always looked and sounded.... amateur I guess. The on-screen talent, and these small details are going to become more critical than ever. |
The Behemother

Does WWE have better camera work yet?

Nope. And now they only lead by >1 million. So that means AEW wins.

Well that’s clear as day.

972k for Quake at the Lake. Is has to be clear to people that the war is over. WWE loses.

The real game changer was when Claudio became ROH Champion, his first WORLD championship belt in wrestling.

Oh. So THAT’S why the derp squad didn’t report the ratings 2 minutes after they were reported.
SmackDown down on the week, year, and 2 years. Oof.
Damn, only 1 million more than Dynamite and only over 3 times the viewership of Rampage. SmackDown’s sinking.
1.98 million for RAW, the HHH era continues to succeed
Disappointing number. They should have gotten a million less to win the night.
According to Dave, The Last Jedi lead-in was responsible for Rampage doing bigger numbers. Just a reminder that AEW isn’t as popular as the stuff in the back catalogue around it.
Did you guys see the big return last night?
According to the ratings, the answer is “no.”
NXT’s climb has been surprising. The show is very AEW-like in terms of action and storylines. If they got some big name stars it could change the game there. Marathon not a sprint and all that.
I’m still down for CM Punk becoming the top heel. |
For the first time ever, streaming beat cable in terms over total number of people and how they consumed their media.
Media consumption is definitely changing, but the mediums changing affects content and content affects how the mediums change. Wrestling could be at the forefront of this shift, or it could be helping cable to remain more viable. “People watch streaming” isn’t the magic hand-waving a lot of people use it as. It’s another version of “there’s something better on.”
2.618 million for Smackdown

431k in 18-49 in 2022 on a Friday night is not too bad, all things consi…wait…that’s the entire viewership?!?

With Big Bang Theory being a bigger draw and having more cultural value, I would not be surprise to see AEW moved to late night time slots in coming weeks. Well, Rampage is already there. But I don’t know why a company hemorrhaging money would keep Dynamite on when they can just dig into the archives and put something better/more popular on.
I’m interested to see the effect Clash at the Castle has on WWE’s business (if any) in the UK. They’re on a platform with way less access than AEW, but a real belter of a show could get WWE closer to having its cake (more money for the exclusive deal) and eating it too (still being the most watched product anyway).
678k for NXT.
1.049 for Dynamite. Another win for AEW.
AEW Dynamite - 1.05 million
On their podcast Meltzer told Alvarez if Dynamite keeps up hot shows like he felt last night was then RAW could be in trouble come fall.
Dave said the Punk/Mox angle has to be one of the top angles of the year already because everyone is talking about it. |
Raw has been around for 29 years. Dynamite has only been around for 3. So if you multiply Dynamite’s rating by 10, you basically get 10.49 million. I don’t necessarily like that AEW are kicking WWE’s ass, but the numbers don’t lie.
Quote:
Remember when Chris Jericho said Dynamite would be beating Raw? That was like a year ago.
A champion shitting the bed is not a great angle. People are talking about how bad it is, or muttering up spineless defenses for it. This was Fingerpoke of Doom stuff. The ratings are barely up for a unification match between World Champions. They’re behind 1 MILLION viewers against a 3 hr dinosaur that airs on a tougher night of television. And attention does not equate to approval. How many people do you think were impressed by Dynamite this week? He’s such a stooge. Here’s a prediction for next week: the ratings will be down to 970k or something. And all the shills will come out and defend this like it’s a good thing and a sign of growth. |
Alvarez did ask Dave to clarify if he meant in terms of total viewers because Alvarez said he can't see that ever happening and Dave clarified he meant in 'the demo', not number of viewers
They have been about to overtake Raw for 150 episodes
WWE is paid as much for one episode of Raw as AEW is paid for like 4 months of Dynamite. Talk to me when AEW wins that metric

They put their two biggest start on t.v in a desperate attempt to beat TNA's 2012 ratings

Why does he think WWE has gone after younger viewers than that on purpose? Why didn’t WWE get a raging hot deal for being consistently #1 prior to this most recent round of negotiations? He doesn’t have a fucking clue how television works, and he doesn’t have a clue how to even apply common sense to the ratings situation. He gets lost in them having any context whatsoever. Raw is also killing them in every single demo right now. Every. Single. Demo. They’ve broken away. The 18-49 numbers for Raw this past week were 0.57, 0.55 and 0.53 (out of prime time). AEW got 0.34 on a fucking Wednesday. It’s not even fucking close. |
Quote:
Different times, right? Yeah, of the millions of people with cable in their homes, more watched wrestling then.
Is AEW still doing horrible with women? I’m willing to bet yes.
Imagine thinking advertisers care more about fat white guys who only spend money on pizza and wrestling than women in 2022. It’s almost as if Dave is out of touch.

And actually, it's more like Raw has 40 million viewers since you have to count the Peacock subscribers. |
130m if you include YouTube subscribers who are probably watching the full show every week.

Tony's got some work to do!

AEW fans love to make excuses like “People watch other ways!” The irony is that is probably way more true for a 3 hr Raw than Dynamite. When I watch, I use a streaming service that carries WWE. I wonder how much money they get for that on top of their multiple TV deals in Australia?
For those wondering, AEW has 0 deals in Australia, because it isn’t very good. |
Lol @ Noid thinking Australia matters.
They really shouldn't be calling their title a "World Title"

Need to lure that coveted Australian audience by creating the “Shrimp on the Barbie, Didgeridoo, Crocodile Dundee is a Cinematic Masterpiece Heavyweight Championship”.
