I think Ryan Dunn

Definitely not Steve-O or Johnny Knoxville b/c I've seen them on tv recently

Sixx 05-29-2018 09:28 AM

Oh, that's right.

Jordan 05-29-2018 09:30 AM

Yeah I think Ryan had an OD several years ago. Steve O is doing well though.

Jordan 05-29-2018 09:32 AM

I actually met Johnny Knoxville very shortly after the death of Dunn in a random bar in NYC. I was at a big party and there was tons of people there and I look over to the bar and there is Johnny all by himself looking sad as hell. I saw like two blondes trying to hit on him and he just stared straight ahead. I went up next to him to order a beer and said I was from Knoxville, and we chatted for a second. He gave a little bit of a shit to talk to me because we are from the same place but man he was out of it. That was in like 08 or 09.

I remember be shocked as a kid watching live that he used that language.

Jordan 05-29-2018 09:46 AM

I think WWE should restart the Memphis Territory and take advantage of the old timers they have left. I'm talking Lawler and Jarrett and BG James maybe. Relight the Memphis territory with it's own WWE development, get it an hour on the network weekly and see what happens. I'd love if it was like a character territory where it's all about the entertainment aspect of sports entertainment. I want people to be able to cut promo's that make me want to watch a match.

they do the "no he didnt" pop

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-29-2018 12:14 PM

In a way though it's genuine. Lawler is the heel and that is - well - heelish language to say the least.

In 1997 fag wasn't as taboo. It's still jarring to hear in 2018 but whatever, I love the sheer hatefulness of the language when used by a shit stain heel like Lawler.

It was in Evansville, Indiana May 26, 1997 though, which is basically Lawler country from the old Memphis Wrestling/CWA/USWA days. Lawler will probably be always over in this area until the end of time.

This. He was a babyface to them and said a babyface thing to these people. Which is fucked, but also poignant and important/fascinating to see/know.

Stumbled across some old TNA on Pluto.tv from like 2005... Not sure how popular of an opinion this is, but Abyss's theme was dope.

Emperor Smeat 05-29-2018 09:13 PM

TNA had some decent to great themes in the sea of generic and mediocrity that was their music department

Savio 05-29-2018 09:21 PM

I thought it was funny when the crowd popped at Billy and Chuck not being gay.

Simple Fan 05-29-2018 09:24 PM

And they continue to have him be Joseph Park but I suppose there is only so much they can do with the Abyss character at this point. Guy seems to be a lifer for the company so they don't want to release him. Could at least transition to an agent and return as Abyss every once in a while.

Emperor Smeat 05-29-2018 10:35 PM

Based on early data, RAW likely going to get slaughtered this week in ratings and viewers. Warriors/Rockets Game 7 generated a huge number while Game 1 of the Stanley Cup did really well compared to the last 2 years for numbers.

Seeing 2005 Abyss last night again was kind of a revelation. 2005 Abyss from a physique and mobility perspective is a totally different guy than I'd seen in the past few years on random TNA episodes, but I guess that's par for the course for a big dude who's been wrestling hardcore matches and flying off stages and into thumbtacks for like 15+ years.

Main Event Mafia theme was really solid.

Found this while going down a YouTube rabbit hole trying to find a decent version of Abyss's theme and also trying to verify whether or not it still is his theme or not. I usually think theme mashups are really shitty, but this one's really cool.

LibSuperstar 05-30-2018 02:21 AM

Suckas gots ta know.

Tom Guycott 05-30-2018 02:21 AM

As far as TNA themes, they fell into three categories: the rare good one (say what you want, but I think Syxx's theme was better/more fitting than just about *any* theme he used in WWE), the vast majority of middling production sounding tracks that were supposed to actually be good somehow (like said RVD theme), and the blatant ripoffs (see: Triple X, Tomko, or MCMG).

Jarrett's was okay because it seemed like it actually had some thought put into making it unique. Same with AJ's. And Abyss. I'd even say Amazing Kong and Hernandez were alright (until Hernandez's theme got way overproduced) I won't count 3LK or LAX, because Truth and Konnan have a hand in music, so they had a hand in production for themselves.

Yeah--definitely go. It sounds like Impact has gained some momentum. I haven't watched or followed it much in months and months, but the bits and pieces I've caught or read up on sounds like they're at least trying some new stuff.

Bad News Gertner 05-30-2018 09:36 PM

If I wasn't headed away on vacation next week I would. Our indie promotion is awesome. Border City Wrestling. The Rock came here in 98 for his only indie appearence. Last show Pete Dunne, Tito Santana and Rey Mysterio appeared, plus a ton of Impact guys since it's D'Amore's fed. Lots of talent have come out of Border City Wrestling: Rhyno, Chris Sabin, Moose, Bobby Roode to name a few. Tyson Dux and Johnny Devine are the trainers here.

Emperor Smeat 05-30-2018 10:12 PM

Where do they rank in the indies scene in Canada?

Like ROH/Impact tier of upper status or like EVOLVE/PWG where they are more mid-tier but have a very strong following or like lower local level for support.

Bad News Gertner 05-30-2018 11:03 PM

Pretty high. They routinely draw 1500-2000 and the crowds are very lively. Jarrett actually offered us huge discounts to come up to Toronto for GFW tapings because we were so loud. . They run major shows a few times a year and small shows here and there. I'd put it a notch below Smash Wrestling out of the Toronto area. The partnership with Impact has existed in some sort of fashion since D"Amore started with TNA but it has ramped up great since he took over creative. Guys like Kongo Kong and Idris Abraham are Border City Wrestling guys. I could easily see it become a feeder for Impact.

Emperor Smeat 05-30-2018 11:25 PM

Used to have a decent one nearby called New England Wrestling Alliance but it shut down a few years ago. Had a few good chances to go to one of their shows in the past but never did because of various reasons.

Biggest in the region is New England Championship Wrestling in Massachusetts which has some past ties to the WWE and John Cena being their biggest alumni.

WWEShop are now selling an Eddie Guerrero T-Shirt.

https://shop.wwe.com/on/demandware.s...arge/86060.jpg

The description says it's "retro" but it's not quite the original, if my memory serves me correctly.

The real retro one was of the same design, but the image was of Eddie with the WWE Championship over his shoulder.

Based on the early stage of the trial and opinions of those following the case, seems WWE's doctor is likely losing his libel lawsuit against Punk.

He's suing Punk for libel but during the trial stated he is only claiming emotional damages, admitted Punk's claims have not hurt his job status, and seems he did the lawsuit because of people ridiculing him online and not solely because of Punk's statements.

Making things worse for the doctor is several text messages and evidence that showed him acting in a non-professional and juvenile way towards those that seeked his medical help in the WWE.

Also seems the doctor might have opened himself up to a lawsuit from Punk and risking his medical license since it got revealed he likely violated HIPAA by disclosing Punk's medical history to others without his knowledge.
