Wasn't sure about AJPW after watching their last event. Nothing on the card really hooked me in.

But just watched the first match of the Champion's Carnival, which is their version of the G-1 Climax, and they knocked it out the park. Shuji Ishikawa vs Yuji Hino. I had seen Ishikawa a couple times before, but this is the first time I'm seeing Hino.

Very impressed. Just two brick shithouses beating the ever living hell out of one another. If the rest of the matches are this good, I'll be reupping the subscription.

Fignuts 04-14-2018 07:48 PM

Next match is Dylan James vs Jun Akiyama, though.

Akiyama is old, and James did absolutely nothing for me at the last event.

Fignuts 04-14-2018 07:49 PM

Weird thing about AJPW.tv is that they cut the audio during the entrances, I'm assuming for licensing reasons, but then they play entrance music post match.

Fignuts 04-14-2018 07:55 PM

Short but good. Shouldn't of underestimated Akiyama. He's still got it. Good little sprint that showcased Dylan's strengths and hid his weaknesses.

Fignuts 04-15-2018 02:42 AM

Shingo Takagi of Dragon Gate vs Kento Miyahara was really good.

Main event is Suwama vs Zeus. Suwama is the former AJPW ace before Kento came along. Only seen a few matches but I don't remember being that impressed. Zeus is a former bodybuilder and tag partner to Bodyguard, another jacked up tight. Dunno how good he is.

Champ Carnival is 3 for 3 so far. NO PRESSURE

Fignuts 04-15-2018 03:02 AM

Pretty good match. Good story, with Suwama attacking Zeus's taped up leg, and a really hard hitting end stretch.

First night of Champions Carnival was a lot better overall than Dream Power event. Has me intrigued.

How about Rey Mysterio this year? I've always thought of him in the same vein as Andre The Giant. He's a phenomenal attraction and recently has had a career resurgence to the point he's comparable to his work in the 90's. In this calendar years he will have worked for WWE, AAA, NJPW, Aero Lucha among other major indie's all over the world. I think that is pretty dope.

Jordan 04-15-2018 11:48 AM

I hope he's "All in".

Mr. Nerfect 04-15-2018 06:18 PM

I think Rey will sign with the WWE. And that will be good for the matches. There is lots of fresh stuff for him and a reduced schedule will do him wonders. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing him work with AJ Styles.

Shingo Takagi used to be a thing about a decade and a bit ago. How has he developed? I'm really happy about the All Japan resurgence, but my main interest in signing up to their thing was the classic All Japan stuff. If they can get that on there, I'd probably sign up and go on a binge, to be honest.

I'm not sure how he'd fit the company given their current roster and all that, but at some point it'd be interesting to see Tetsuya Naito jump to All Japan. Not necessarily because of heat with New Japan or anything, but just because you can only exist in a spot for so long before it gets a bit stale. Okada is clearly the guy, and there's nothing wrong with that. Okada has all the tools. Naito has got a lot of the tools and is very interesting, but he's clearly not going to overtake Okada. At some point, however, you have to think that Naito either wants to be in that league. They have to shit or get off the pot. It'd be interesting if Naito jumped to All Japan just to "drum up interest."

How is the relationship between the two promotions? They used to somewhat collaborate and cooperate, but I think things may have gotten icy for a while. I know New Japan was working with Pro Wrestling NOAH for a while, but I think New Japan and All Japan -- not working together, per se -- but coexisting in the marketplace would be very cool.

Supposedly CZW is currently dealing with a lot of backlash in regards to them booking Rich Swann for a recent show and trying to go after their wrestlers' financial well-beings.

The Swann stuff mostly pissed off fans while CZW issued an ultimatum recently to their wrestlers demanding them to not work for certain companies even though they get paid more there.

I'm surprised, because I imagine a lot of CZW fans to be incels who hate women and would probably pop for one getting hit. I'm glad they're not.

Mr. Nerfect 04-15-2018 07:05 PM

Is there any word on who put together the Ronda Rousey match at WrestleMania? On his podcast, Cornette said that if Triple H put it together, then he truly is a genius, and it got me thinking about it. We know Michael Hayes was the agent for Lesnar/Reigns. Apparently HBK was the guy for Gargano/Ciampa. I'm sure Triple H contributed to it, don't get me wrong, but there would be an agent working with them, surely.

Heading in, I thought it would be "all hands on deck." Sara Del Rey because she's great with working with the women, Pat Patterson because he's a genius, Arn because he's Arn, etc. Without there being too many cooks, you know? But knowing that HBK likes his epics, that seems like something he could have pieced together with its interpersonal drama and the like.

Bad News Gertner 04-15-2018 07:10 PM

From what I read in Patterson's book, he just watches Raw/Smackdown and sends in reports from Montreal. That's all his involvement is anymore

Mr. Nerfect 04-15-2018 07:12 PM

I knew he stepped back a lot, but I thought he helped with a Royal Rumble a few years ago. Like a special occasion sort of thing. Wasn't sure if that was still going on.

Bad News Gertner 04-15-2018 08:31 PM

Probably a combo of Triple H and Angle with Triple H laying out the match's direction and Angle with Ronda's spots.

Triple H has done similar hands-on stuff with his recent Mania matches while Ronda was getting trained mainly by Angle during the weeks leading up to the match.

Mr. Nerfect 04-15-2018 09:57 PM

Lol, had no clue Angle was legitimately training Ronda. Cool.

Pretty much considering he's been on the record in the past about not wanting to start a family till after he retired. Its a big reason why he came up with that ridiculous 75 page pre-nup contract for Nikki to sign.

Just Landed on 12/28/82 which is headlined by Superstar Billy Graham vs Bob Backlund in a Lumber Jack match and is kicking off with Eddie Gilbert vs SD Jones. I feel like I picked a good one.

No one specific has been named, but it's almost certainly HHH with his NXT team. He even made sure Drake was the ref since he's his main ref down down there.

Mr. Nerfect 04-16-2018 02:08 AM

I did notice that Drake was the ref. So weird that Drake Younger is a referee in the WWE, and I’m pretty sure he is only in his 30’s, despite looking like he retired after the territories shut down.

I really liked the revivals of SNME I wish they'd have made them a priority. I think that kind of exposure can still do for them what it did in the 80's.

Also Matt Hardy is underrated in my mind. He surprises me a lot, like the gimmick with Bray is really working as a team and I hope they can make something cool out of it instead of just a side angle for a few months.

Jordan 04-16-2018 01:51 PM

We have some many throw away "PPV" titles in WWE. The big four plus Backlash, Money in the Bank, are all we need. Replace the rest with big Saturday Night's Main Event shows on NBC. Put them on the Network the day after with behind the scenes additions that would make them special. I am nostalgic for those days what can I say?

Had a random thought earlier about a change in character for Mojo Rawley with the current political climate. I'm not saying they should go full Muhammad Hassan but if they played on his Arabic background and let him speak in Arabic as he's fluent then they could really gain some heel heat. Especillay now with Jinder moving to Raw as well if would leave a space open.

Lock Jaw 04-17-2018 09:44 AM

Mojo moved to RAW as well

Mr. Nerfect 04-17-2018 01:48 PM

I'd stay away from the xenophobic stuff. Just like I'd stay away from just pushing people because of their nationality. The world is a lot more globalized and people are lot smarter than just going "Woo! That hack is Indian, therefore I love him!". Also, they are trying not to chase away sponsors, so trying to fan the flames of racism might not be the wisest thing in the world.

Mojo is a piece of shit annoying jock. He's not even acting when he does that. There was this video of him obnoxiously dancing to someone playing the bagpipes and it is the most insufferable thing in the fucking world, and he thinks he is so cool. They should just do that. Revealing a Rawley Revolution or a Mojo Movement where he goes around places and tries to get people excited for him coming to Raw would get far more heat than him speaking Arabic.

But they don't really book for heat these days anyway. I imagine he'll be in a jock tag team with Baron Corbin and they'll have a series of matches with Matt Hardy & Bray Wyatt and/or Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre.

People complain about this, but honestly, I don't know if there are two guys in the whole world right now that have the chemistry together that they do, and I could watch them go at it forever.

Or they'll probably call up those terrible NXT guys to be part of his American football crew.

Should just play it out , team him with Zayn and Daviari against Noam Dar, Angle and recall Jack Swagger.

I'm joking by the way.

For those in Canada, Smackdown won't air live on tv tonight due to the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

SmackDown has been moved to 8 p.m. on Wednesday night in Canada.

The show will be streaming live online for Sportsnet subscribers. If you have the station, you can watch SmackDown from Providence live online by signing up for Sportsnet Now using your cable providers login (such as signing into your Rogers Cable account or whatever your provider is).

They have good matches, but I think there are people with better chemistry. Zayn has Owens' best match; but Owens doesn't have Zayn's best match. At this point, I'd like it if they gave them a break, but when you need to fill some TV time, they're good for it.

I forgot that they often team together, so they might actually end up in that Raw tag division, which I was completely naive to. Dolph & Drew, KOSZ, Deleters of Worlds, Mojo & Baron and The Authors of Pain. I mean, it's kind of juxtaposed in the head, but maybe some good will come out of it? It makes me hope that Rollins & Balor stay on Raw and team together.

Looks like FOX might have lost interest in the WWE since they just signed a joint tv deal with ESPN for UFC.

I was looking forward to WWE moving and Raw going back to three hours. How naive of me? I can actually see SmackDown going to three hours in order to justify the increase they want from USA.

I instantly knew who it was and I was shocked to see him bald as all ass. :'(

Scott Steiner is about to do a teleconference on YouTube for Impact if anyone is interested in that. They finally gave him a mic on last week's show.

Orlando is preparing to bid on WM again...would be really funny if it went back there again for WM36 b/c people on the internet would get 'angry'.

slik 04-18-2018 03:45 PM

I think TX will definitely host WM again sooner rather than later too....AT&T Stadium seats so many people...AlamoDome was really 'well-received' when they hosted the Rumble last year, WWE said it was the least amount of complaints they ever received from fans in attendance at a stadium/dome event.

Evil Vito 04-18-2018 03:46 PM

Pretty stoked to go to Mania next year

slik 04-18-2018 03:51 PM

Actually, iirc WWE wants to start hosting both SummerSlam and The Royal Rumble in baseball stadiums going forward and WrestleMania in larger stadiums, so there's a lot of $$$ to be made and more fans can attend all three than ever before.

slik 04-18-2018 03:52 PM

This is the last year Barclays Center gets SummerSlam, their contract to host it ends this year. Royal Rumble 2019 already booked for Chase Field in Phoenix, which seats 45,000 for baseball.

Cool King 04-18-2018 03:54 PM

I can't wait for a WrestleMania that isn't in New Jersey, Louisiana or Florida.

Cool King 04-18-2018 03:54 PM

I'll probably be waiting a while for that though.

XL 04-18-2018 04:12 PM

Still waiting (against hope) for a UK Mania (or any proper PPV)

slik 04-18-2018 04:14 PM

Maybe the UK will get to host TeaLC soon!

Could be a Crumpets on a Pole death match!

slik 04-18-2018 04:15 PM

(London should definitely get a big 4 ppv)

Emperor Smeat 04-18-2018 04:17 PM

According to a reliable dirtsheets source, Alexa Bliss supposedly had cosmetic surgery done recently which is why she wasn't on RAW besides a pre-taped promo or traveling with the rest of the brand this week for house shows.
