Twilight - 0.5/10
I watched this at the request of someone I was arguing about with it. She said I cant have a valid opinion unless I watched it all. I did and my opinion actually lowered because of it. |
Resident Evil: Afterlife - 4/10
Dunno. I can't remember a single line from the movie. Seems like the whole thing was action scenes over generic techno, which was kinda nifty in parts. It was pretty fun, just wished they could've added dialog or an idea or something. |
is it worth seeing in 3d tb1?
|
Kick Ass - 4.4/10 - What a fucking load of crap.
|
Get out of here
|
and it only got a 4.4 because Kick Ass looked like you and the girl thought he was a homo.
|
Bad Lt.: Port of Call New Orleans (new version) - 3.5/5
|
127 Hours - New Danny Boyle film; I usually find his stuff kind of hit or miss, but this was really enjoyable. James Franco stars as this outdoorsy guy who gets his arm trapped by a boulder while (who betta than) canyoning and then cuts his own arm off to escape. It's based on a true story and 90% of the movie is just Franco by himself and he does a great job carrying the film. Feels like a Boyle film with lots of gimmicky shots and plenty of energy. Intense film (apparently two people had panic attacks at Telluride) and the arm cutting scene is insane.
|
From Paris with Love - 8/10
Travolta was badass in this. |
The Runaways - 5/10 - Fucking lame. Edgeplay was a way better movie.
|
Thirst- 8/10
Nice twist on an old story. Best vampire flick I've seen in ages. |
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
8.5/10 Awesome. |
Stand By Me - 8/10. This was a movie that I watched today. It was film. I watched it.
|
Great review!
|
See No Evil - 1?/10
I give it a 1? because I fast forwarded throughout it, only wanting to see the good parts. Too bad, there were no good parts besides a shower scene. I got halfway through on fast forward and I thought "This sucks" so I shut it off. I am now posting on TPWW and telling you this. I sleepwalk |
Second day at the Toronto Film Festival
Black Swan - Pretty much what I wanted it to be. It was similar to the Wrestler in many ways but also very different. Resembled the Wrestler in style and the way it observes an artists dedication to their craft, however this one play out more like a Polanski thriller with a bit of Cronenberg thrown in for good measure. I've never really been convinced by Portman as an actress but she was perfect as a frigid and neurotic ballerina, Kunis and Cassell were really good too. Can't wait to see this again. Rabbit Hole - Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart play a married couple dealing with grief after their four year old son died. I was surprised to see a movie with such big actors play out so subtly, so it was different than I expected. Not entirely sure how I feel about it yet but for such sombre material it was surprisingly hilarious. The Sleeping Beauty - Some shit Catherine Breillat film, saw it to kill time. Meek's Cutoff- Loved this, plays out like a movie from Gus Van Sant's death trilogy, I even felt this was more successful. Despite being thin on plot, Reichart does a great job of conveying some big ideas about the frauds we put our faith in, and the silenced voice of the oppressed. Not a film for most. Normally I don't see many famous people when I go to the festival but I saw a whole bunch of dumbass celebrities this time. Going again Saturday to see Never Let Me Go, and to hopefully get tickets to a 3D Werner Herzog documentary. |
Steve Austin is The Stranger - 5/10
Boring and not exactly a lot of "Action" |
Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D 5/10
The story was boring. Just the next part. Not much more I can say about that. Music was ok. Action was fair. For my first 3D movie it was ok. Nothing wowing really dirt, bullets, blood, glass, and explosion in 3D. So if you are like should I go see it in 3D, I say you can pass and it want kill you. On 3D I can honestly that when they previewed movies that are coming out. Tron was the only one that I think you'd be missing out if you don't see it in 3D. |
Waynes World - 7/10 - Very funny, but kinda annoying at times.
|

I can't fathom that. |
Iron Man 2

Boogie Nights - 8.4/10

We've discussed this in here before, but you really can't watch an early 90's movie that you were supposed to see when you were 12 in your early 20's right now. It just doesn't work.
|
Black Dynamite 8/10
Kung Fu Richard Nixon! Can't wait for the Adult Swim Cartoon. |
Never Let Me Go - Huge fan of the book so take my mini review with a grain of salt. I thought the third act was perfect, it managed to be both very moving and horribly depressing. But I don't think the sullenness was required for the whole film, I would have liked more levity during the Hailsham and even some of the cottage sequences. I also found the relationships a little thin, not just between the three leads but between Kathy and Hailsham, I was scratching my head as to why they left out certain scenes that would have helped flesh out these relationships, it seemed like the melancholy of story was a greater priority to Romanek. Reminded me of the Road in some ways, faithful to book, directed with vision but still came up somewhat short. Probably give it a 7/10
The Promise. The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town - Damn, I like Springsteen but I did not know he had such a clear artistic vision. This was exceptional, very entertaining and even intimate as most of the documentary was old footage of the band recording in Bruce's farm house. Really enjoyed this. Saw this by myself and I felt like a bit of weirdo as 90% of the people at the screening were over 40. Cave of Forgotten Dreams -The 3d was pretty hit or miss to me. It gave a nice depth to caves and it did feel like you were actually there, but it felt weird seeing 3D interviews and some of the handycam stuff gave me a headache. Even the exterior shots looked kinda weird to me, I dunno I just prefer watching films the "traditional" way I guess. The doc was good though, beautiful... even soothing at time and of course, full of hilarious Herzogian quirks. Wouldn't mind seeing it again in 2D. |
Resident Evil Afterlife 9/10
It was badass. |
Jumper - 7/10
It was enjoyable enough. Hayden Christiansen's voice was annoying, but Rachael Bilson = yum. Shelter - 7.5/10 An odd one this. Started out like a psychological thriller then veered off into the horror genre, I guess. Convinced me that Jonathan Rhys Meyers would make an awesome Riddler in the next Batman fim. |
Disney's Earth - 79 Rented it to show off the visuals on my badass tv and my tv is indeed badass
Crips and Bloods - 53 |
Bad Boy Bubby - 7/10
About a guy whose mother keeps locked in a house for his entire life and tells him he can never leave or he will die of inhaling poison outside. Mad ridiculous movie. Was incredible until halfway through then just got completely ridiculous. Really fucked movie though. Paris, Texas - 4/10 So disappointing. Was recommended this movie by like 5 different people. Kinda feel like I "don't have the patience" for these types of movies anymore. Was really "meticulous" aka insanely slow but never got into it at all. Last scene was pretty good but other than that was just like "damn, don't feel like watching this right now" for most of the movie. |
Yeah Paris Texas is probably my second favourite movie of all time, but if you are not sucked into it's atmosphere or whatever then it's probably just boring and pointless.
|
Devil - 8.5/10
My first instinct was 9/10 but that's to high. But 8 is too low compared to how I rated the last 2 films I watched (which maybe I rated too high). So we'll call this an "adjusted" score. |
how is devil? is there a decent story or is it just a bunch of that sudden shock horror crap?
|
There's plenty of "scares" in there (or at least my g/f was jumping) but also a lot of suspense. My g/f gave it a 4/10 at first as she though the ending was "cliche" but then she ammended to an 8/10 after reconsideration.
I'd give it a go. Mind you I went on "cheap night" so it only cost £4.60 or something. |
Iron Man 2 - 8/10
Cool action movie and I loved Downey Jr in this. |
The Cove - 83
Interesting, depressing, riviting, "visually stunning" |
The King of Kong 125
Possibly the greatest documentary ever |
Fight Club - 7.7/10 - I understand how this movie could be the best thing ever when you're 16 and trying to rebel and be cool, and it was a good enough movie, but I didn't think it was as great as I'd heard.
|
Easy A - 9.9/10.
This movie is easily a 10. Emma Stone had to carry the whole thing, and it was great because of that. Emma is the real deal, she can hold her own. Her and Clint Eastwood would make a great pair. I think I'll have to write it because if I don't make it happen, nobody will. |
Get Him To the Greek - 10/10
One part in the movie had me in stitches for ten mins straight. I haven't laughed that hard at one scene in a movie, since the naked fight scene in Borat. For that alone it gets a 10/10. |
Prince of Persia 7.5/10
Some of it I loved. I thought Jake Gynneal(yeah I know) and Gemma Aretona were good. The action scenes and the scenary were great. Some of the stuff was straight from the games and they were cool to see. The story though was rather weak. The games story was way better. I won't even bring up the ending to the movie.. I'm probably being generous with my rating. |

Easy A - 8/10
Pretty funny for a chick flick. Stanley Tucci was probably my favorite part of the movie. That and Emma Stone's friend had amazing tits. Youth in Revolt - 7/10 Kinda disappointed by this movie considering how popular the book was. Nothing really stood out for me in the movie and the ending was kinda meh. |

J'ai tué ma mère - The guy (Xavier Dolan) who wrote, starred and directed this is only 21 so I hate his guts. But it was pretty good, it was about a gay kid who has an awful relationship with his bourgeois mother. Dolan wears his influences on his sleeve specifically, Wong Kar Wai and Jean Luc Godard and sometimes it felt like he was just mimicking these guys. He still has his own voice though and I enjoyed this. 8/10
Les amours imaginaires - The same dude's follow up film. Bit of a sophomore slump wit this one, it's about a gay guy and a straight woman who fall in love with the same dickhead. More stylish than his previous film and it was somewhat entertaining but it all felt kinda pointless. |

Romeo Must Die - 7/10. |
Cop Out - 8.4/10 - I liked it.
|
Emma Stone needs to get naked in a movie soon.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief: 8/10 I really enjoyed it. |
Russel Brandt Live In New York City - 4/10
Resident Evil 4: 3D - 5/10 - movie kinda sucked but the 3d was amazing Get Him To the Greek - 5/10 |
easy a 7/10
|
Carriers 7/10
Paranormal Entity 8/10 King of Kong 10/10 |
Howl - 8/10
James Franco is unreal and this is an incredible movie. I would have rated it a 9 or maybe even a 10 because I love Allen Ginsberg but the animation pissed me off a lot. |
Wolfman - 4/10
Benico Del Toro is an Englishman! STRIKE 1! The Wolfman is more vicious than Freddy Krueger (in the unrated version anyway)! STRIKE 2! Emily Blunt doesn't even remotely get undressed! STRIKE 3! Honestly it was just a lot more gory and gruesome than I was expecting. The special effects weren't that bad though and I liked Anthony Hopkins. But honestly I couldnt for 5 seconds take Del Toro seriously in it even though if I take that bias out, he did an ok job I guess. The music is classic Danny Elfman though, which was good. Cabin Fever 2 1/10 - worst movie Ive seen this year. Aside from having to see the fat naked girl, the one dude's super pus infected junk, I have a hard time understanding why they even bothered making this piece of shit after like 7 years. The original was like a solid 7..and its like they took everything that was good about it and shit all over it. The fact that the director wanted his name off the project (but didnt get his wish) after it was finished says a lot. Id go as far as to say that it was worse than the Donnie Darko sequel and thats coming from someone who has Donnie Darko as a top 5 movie and I was close to chucking things at the TV during it. Im trying to think about positives but there aren't any. In the original it took at least 2 days for them to get to the point to where they were throwing up blood and stuff like that and in this its less than a day since the contaminated water was delivered that same day. About the only laugh I did get is that the guy in the Rabbit Suit from the original showed up again and got killed... Quote:
Steve Wiebe the King Again By Joe Dodson, 9/24/2010 2:40 AM Steve Wiebe, the once King of Kong, is king again, having surpassed the vile Billy Mitchell's record. This marks the third time the world record in Donkey Kong has been set - in a year. If you've seen the documentary King of Kong, you know what we're talking about. Way back in like the 80s, the self-parodic Billy Mitchell set the world record for Donkey Kong. He parlayed that into small time fame, and a huge ass ego. His record stood for a decade at least, and then Steve Wiebe emerged from his garage to challenge and ultimately surpass Mitchell's record. This was the subject of King of Kong. Since then, the record was captured by Hank Chien, which was then topped by Mitchell, who was just beaten by Wiebe all over again. |
Since when were werewolves not supposed to be vicious and violent?
|
Also, Benicio Del Toro is an American both in the film and real life. I don't get it? Is it a race thing? I don't think he really looks distinctly hispanic to any point where I can't see him as a dark-haired caucasian. Dunno

If you're going to abuse the tool, at least abuse it on stuff you can't do practically. You can make realistic looking fake blood and squibs in your goddamn kitchen. It's the easiest thing ever. I don't see how animating it is cheaper than doing it the old fashioned way, but it must be since they do it. It certainly can't be a creative choice because I can't imagine a person on earth who is dumb enough to think it looks better. CGI in car chases instead of real stunts is another big piece of shit. |
Legendary 6/10
Like I said in the other thread... The Girlfriend and I actually rented it last night. It wasn't as bad as I thought but it wasn't like Oscar material or anything. Cena will never be Jack Nicholson, knowing that going in, he was alright. Patricia Clarkson and the kid who played Cena's brother were actually pretty good I think. It was your typical Sports Drama movie, and it was actually a nice change instead of the usual football, baseball, or basketball movies. |
Dance Flick - 2/10
Was made to watch this. I didn't laugh once granted the story was ok and some of the pulp culture references did keep my attention. |

Survival of the Dead - 3/5
Better than Diary. |
Paper Heart 7/10
|
THE SOCIAL NETWORK: 8/10
Great script, great editing... Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake are both on as their respective characters, but something about the film just feels slightly too rushed and a bit pushy. It was fun to watch, but borders between a comedy and a drama without ever pulling hard enough in one direction or the other. I also found the on-going storyline between Eisenberg and his dumped ex-girlfriend to be weak, thinly plotted and without any kind of real emotional pay-off at the end. Still, definitely worth a watch as it was a really interesting story. |
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps - 3.5/5
I dunno. I felt like it drifted away from it's original. Shia LeBeouf didn't do any favors. I liked it and hated it. However, SPOILER: show |
The Social Network - 8/10 Basically agree with what Fox said. I expected to really enjoy it based on the trailer, writer and director. Everything about it was a good movie, but it didn't greatly blow me away or anything. It's a fun film though, not for everyone though. It was definitely interesting to see how everything went down. But really the story of Facebook is still just beginning. So in that sense, the ride is fun but it's one of those movies where there is no major payoff because its a "true story." If you realize that going into the movie, you should enjoy it.
|
Kick Ass - 9/10
Enjoyed it, especially the last 1/2 hour which was pretty much Kill Bill with a little girl. |
High and Low - 10/10
Amazing |
|
Ponyo - A
Very cute |
Woah. Saw you posted in this thread from the main page and Ponyo popped into my head and I came in here and it was what you reviewed. Kinda weird I guess. Maybe cuz you were talking about Spirited Away the other day. Dunno

Bitten 8/10
Starring Jason Mewes aka Jay of Jay and Silent Bob. He's a Paramedic who finds a hot chick covered in blood in an alley and takes her home and it turns out she's a vampire. Pretty funny and fucked up. |
The Social Network: 8.5/10
Some damn good performances. |
Raw Deal - 7/10.
Don't bake and drink? LOL! I thought it was funny. This movie is an underrated Arnold movie. |
Survival of the Dead: 5.5/10
It wasnt very good but I enjoyed watching it. Could have been better, but kept me entertained on my train ride. |
I have watched "The Expendables" movie first time.I have watched this movie online on 10starmovies.com it's found me while searching. My rating about this movie - 9/10.It's very interesting movie.I like it.
|
Prince of Persia - 7.5/10
Easily the best video game movie to date even though it only took certain aspects of the source material as an action adventure flick it's good. Clash of the Titans - 8/10 Another great popcorn movie which I really enjoyed in part due to the fact that I was into Greek mythology and I must admit the CGI was top notch. |
Have you not seen Mortal Kombat?
|
The Town - 80
|
Zombies of Mass Destruction -9/10
Best zom-com since Shaun of the Dead |
sleepaway camp 3- 6/10
|
Jonah Hex - 10/10
Combined 3 of my favorite types of movies: Westerns/Graphic Novels/Superhero. Overall there was not a dull moment. Just an all around awesome fucking movie. Best popcorn flick of summer 2010 in my opinion. |
The Signal: 7.5/10
Enjoyed this movie alot...combined horror/zombie type film with some comedy and a little action and love story in between. I thought the acting was pretty good, and I was generally rooting for some of the characters |
The Social Network - Entertaining as heck, this is the second movie i've seen with Andrew Garfield and he's been incredible in both movies. I might actually start getting excited for this Spider-Man reboot. 8/10.
Docks of New York - Pretty loose on plot but gorgeous to look at, in any other directors hands this probably would have been banal and stupid, but Von Sternberg made this both stylish and charming. 8/10 Uncle Boonmee Recalls his Past Lives - Won the Palm D'Or at this years Cannes film festival... I don't know this was really freaking weird. I knew what to expect because i've seen this dudes other films but i'm surprised there were not any walkouts. It's about a guy who is dying and there are weird shadowy monkey creatures with glowing red eyes, and at one point a fish performs cunnilingus on a woman. Slow and strange but the pretentious douchebag in me loved this. |
Children of the Corn (on SyFy) 7 out of 10
King's book I liked a lot, but the SyFy movie like any other SyFy movie, had bad acting which lowered the quality of the movie. The kid sucked, I liked this one kid who said "He who walks behind the Wose" (Rose) better than the main evil kid. |
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen — 8/10
I take these for what they're worth, and I love them. |
Let the Right One In - 9/10
Pretty amazing movie. Only reason I'm taking away a point is because some of the plot points in the movie were too ambiguous. Maybe I would understand better if I had read the book. |

Funky Forest: The First Contact - 8/10
Pretty much just a bunch of loosely related "surrealist" segments. Amazing for the most part but with a couple of "misses" also. http://imgur.com/2LZQR.jpg (Untitled) - 6/10 Some movie that "pokes fun at the art world" about a "brooding musician" who gets involved with some hot art gallerist chick. Was OK I guess. Kinda really good but kinda shitty also. Deconstructing Harry - 10/10 Watched this again last night. Might be my favorite Woody Allen movie. |
Secretariat - 4/5
