I'm playing Control. I dunno what it's like on console but on PC it allows you to launch the standard version or a version with DX12 enabled. I chose DX12 even if it is a bit janky still and HOLY SHIT. I can say 100% without any doubt that this is the first truly next-gen game to release. I have never seen graphics anywhere close to this in anything before but it's a damn resource hog as such. I cant turn on the ray tracing but to think the full experience is better than what I'm already seeing is unreal.
It also helps that it is a really awesome and totally creepy af game. It's as if you are playing something like Stranger Things/Fringe/X-Files. Also very similar to the game Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice in terms of some of the narrative devices. It's not an outright scary game....but it's seriously unnerving at points. It's the kind of horror that wants to mess with your head and leave you feeling like you're always being watched. |
Just completed Fire Embkem Three Houses to do all 4 routes took 230+ hours. Worth it. Easily my game of the year so far.
|
Got BL3 pre-downloaded to my PS4 super early this morning...only took like a coupe hours. Meantime, I've been bouncing between 2 and The Pre-Sequel.
|
In another bout of nostalgic goodies, I'm in the throes of River City Girls. With both that and Bloodstained a bit ago, methinks this is a good year for 9 year-old me.
|
Playing the Grandia 1 hd remaster. Great game
|
Picked up a Switch Lite in turquoise flavor today - first time in nearly 18 years since I owned a Nintendo system at launch.
Also got a copy of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - amazing and addictive game. |
Borderlands 3.
It's got it's issues. But, I'm having a good time. |
Far Cry 3
|
Bloodstained Ritual Of The Night.
Amazing game, its pretty much a castlevania clone in the vein of the DS games, but it's incredibly fun. I love those kinds of games, too bad Konami practically gave up on making games and the 3D castlevanias have all sucked. |
Went through God of War, thought it was pretty good. The story is better than the gameplay though to me personally, when it camr to the end game challenges a lot of the enemies just felt unfair with their bullshit (The burrowing dog things that never surface when you're on a time limit, the perma dodging witches, the Valkyries, that fucking Dark Elf Pricklord). I like the new Kratos, he still a dick but at least hes not completely unlikeable now.
Put a few hours in to Dragon Quest XI, just got my 3rd and 4th party members. Feels very old school, the menus are so basic and unpolished that it's as if it's a SNES game. I heard murmers about it being too easy so I added the Draconic Quest to make the enemies harder and it's pretty tough so far, wiped a few times before I got a full party and then again at the latest boss. Combat is pretty fun though and the monster designs are great, i'm liking it. The beginning really reminds me of Ni No Kuni 2 (Evil King, escaping through the sewers, overtly Japanese town) but I get the feeling this is the better game. I guess they're both just going hard on the tropes. |
Borderlands 3. Needs some performance issues ironed out (supposedly coming in a patch next week) but I am having a good time. I dunno if it's me or I'm just rusty but this game seems much more difficult than the previous entries which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I finally finished off all the DLC for Assassins Creed Odyssey, absolutely loved it. For a change of pace I've moved onto Life is Strange: Before the Storm.

Playing Ion Maiden (It was renamed Ion Fury because of some dumb controversy), it's an extremely fun old school shooter that runs on the build engine (Same as Duke 3d, Shadow Warrior, Blood). So refreshing to play this. Modern FPS games can take their graphics and "storylines" and shove them. I'd be content with FPS games just using the build engine for the rest of time.

Just be Grandia 1. Phenomenal. Everyone nearly unanimously agrees 2 is better than 1...well its got its work cut out for it.
|
Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening on the Switch.
|
Welp, after years of faithful service, my second 1st gen DS has bit the dust (my first one was one of the launch ones; my second was a refurb). No more Advance Wars Dual Strike for me for awhile. :'(
If they would release them on the Switch (yes, I'm aware of Wargroove), I'd happily buy them all again and rock an updated system. Instead, I will have to purchase a third DS from some shady backalley eBay merchant and hope it is up to par, after other obligations are fulfilled. |

Me: "Duke, SW, and Blood, huh? I wonder if there are one-liners and pop culture references being spouted?" Clip: Drops Breaking Bad and Robocop quotes. |
Wargroove is very VERY good but advance wars is better

Starting the fall/winter backlog tomorrow by picking up Ghost Recon: Breakpoint after work tomorrow.
Wanna get through Borderlands 3 first. |
Heard all about DQ11 being too easy, but I ran into a very solid wall in hard mode.
A lot of bosses wiped me without any prep but they were manageable. Slayer of the Sands? That was rough but keep him dazzled and he will fall. Arachtagon? Had to level grind and set up Sylv's multi heal but he's a fair fight. Tentacular? Another grind and mastering all the gear I could do survive long enough to dazzle again. But then... SPOILER: show I've fought bosses since and beat them on the first attempt and I've been assured nothing comes close to being that hard again. So that's good. I'm heading for an important location at 50hrs and level 33, I think there's probably some way to go yet. Also, Jade best girl. |
Making me want to play again lol
|
Finished off Life is Strange: Before the Storm, a nice little back story for Chole and Rachel.
Now I'm working my way through Gears 5. |
You know who can fuck off? Sony. Last of Us Feb 21. Final fantasy 7 remake March 3.
|
Last of us will only be 15ish hours ...thats plenty of time
|
Beat Grandia 2.

Finally went through Undertale and I have to get this out of the way: Undertale is incredibly overrated.
I mean I liked it, it's pretty great and a unique game and has an almost perfect cast (Looking at you Alphys) but as a video game or even a piece of media the story isn't strong enough and it's surprisingly short. It's a good little game, I'd even say very good if Sans wasn't so ridiculously OP that I can barely last six turns against him and have given up on Genocide, but that's all it is. Kinda disappointed I didn't like it more. SPOILER: show Also Sans is overrated. Wouldn't even break my top 5 Undertale characters. I'm not sorry. Night in the Woods is still a piece of shit. |
The fandom had made me hate undertale. Worst. Fans. Ever.
|
What did the fandom do to make them worse than Rick & Morty's? I mean I can totally buy them being a bag of shit on the over hype alone.
|
Anytime a streamer or what have you tries to do a blind play they aggressivelyshame them for "playing wrong." They refuse to let anyone discover the mechanics/true ending on their own.
|
Ah, so they're gatekeeping by ruining the game for everyone else who tries to play it. I can see why the troll with the unfair mechanics is their hero now.
|
AC:O. It's been since Unity that I've played a game in this franchise.
|
Back into The Outer Worlds. Running smooth since that patch.
|
Finished Outer Worlds this morning. 2nd run coming at another time.
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint gets started later tonight/tomorrow. |
Just beat Fallen Order. Best star wars game ever is pretty reasonable

Just searching out there it appears a Viking AC will come out in 2020 or 2021
|
Still filling up my Pokedex when I get a spare minute. Probably going to start REmake 2 at some point this month.
@Destor, I picked up Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2 on the Christmas Sale, not sure when I'll get to them but they're in rotation for 2020. I also picked up Wattam, which came out today and looks so fucking weird it could end up being my game of the year* * (out of the three games released this year I've actually played) |
Yessssssssssssssssss cold steele is great
|
I'm about to buy a raspbery Pi and set up the emulation software to play retro games, has anyone else here done this yet? Any common issues?? Right now cat ninja pro is my only beloved game :)

I'm actually planning on modding my Street Fighter II Arcade1Up. I couldn't decide if I wanted to do my MK, TMNT, or Rampage cabs so I bought the SF cab...the most common modded 1. Lots of tutorials out there |
Finished up Last Jedi. Was an amazing game. Did some of the side quests but it's time to find a new game for my downtime during the holidays. Any suggestions?
|
Quote:
Sekiro & Control took some game of the year honors. So look into those. |
I'm going to replay Fallout 4 over the Xmas holidays; I haven't played it in a couple of years, and about a year ago I bought the Far Harbour DLC on the cheap but never put it on my computer.
I had thought about trying to complete Dark Souls 3, but then I remembered I'd probably still be trying to defeat a boss after two weeks before having to go back down south, where I don't have access to my PC to continue the slog. I'll save that for 2021 when I'll probably be doing a Damninator and not having a job. |

So I guess I'm going to try Death Stranding again. Maybe this time I'll get it.
|
Picked up Mega Man 9 after not playing for ten years, pretty far into the wily stages but turned off the game and lost five hours of progress.
|
I thought the wily stages were not released?

Playing Spiderman. Not rely enjoying it though.

Mega Man 9 was full-on retro, NES era graphics and sound. Even the game placard in the marketplace was (on purpose) done by the same artist who made the undeniably fugly US cover art for Mega Man 1. It hit all the right notes with a lot of people, myself included, for the perfect blend of nostalgia and new challenge. Mega Man 10, on the other hand, was just punishingly hard for no fucking reason and ventured into cheap bullshit deaths quite a bit. By the way, thanks, OssMan... I realize I never bothered to get the "Gamer's Day" achievement. I should fix that someday soon. |
Yea 10 is mad hard.. Wtf
|
Just played Gris. Its probably 3 or 4 hours. Easy platformer but the journey is well worth it. Beautiful game but also very emotional.

Fall Out New Vegas is possibly my favourite game of all time. I spent a good 250 hours playing out scenarios with that thing. Fucking brilliant. The glitches are numerous, so patch that shit up.
I just completed Battlefield 3 after buying it years ago just before my PS3 died. I only ever played online but the campaign was frantic and hard as hell. I might have to dig out COD Modern Warfare 3 and try that campaign. I still have Assassins Creed and Assassins Creed Revelations to play plus a whole bunch of games my buddy gave me before he left town. Deus Ex Human Revolution is one of them but I tried it and the hacking in it is an awful pain in the arse. I did like the difficulty level when doing combat missions though, that was cool. |
I'm also currently playing Maniac Mansion, Maniac Mansion 2 Day Of The Tentacle and Another World.
Amiga was the tits. |
Maniac Mansion is a classic
|
It is and it's hard.
It's not on the same level as Monkey Island 1&2 but I suppose Monkey got all of the benefits by being made afterwards. I quite like the Indiana Jones point and clicks they made too, LucasArts had the market cornered there, I think they also made the Discworld games which I may download later. Broken Sword games were cool too but I dunno who made them, they seemed a bit more serious and artistic. I'm probably preaching to the choir here but give gamesnostalgia.com a go if you're ever bored and curious. It's full of classic games of all types, not just point and clicks. Most downloads are hilariously small. No Toonstruck though. |
The Holy grail would be a working emulator of Bill's Tomato Game, the Rube Goldbergian puzzle game.

Dishonored 2 ain't bad if you're doing the no powers/low chaos run.
It's mostly just knowing the safe routes and having the right bone charms equipped. |
My laptop just randomly deleted all of the emulators I put on it.
It did this with porn too. Son of a bitch! |
I'm playing DMC : Devil May Cry and I like it a lot.

Finished Ghost Recon: Breakpoint
Oy vey. This was a mess. No wonder why the team is working around the clock to fix it. Jon Bernthal must have high tailed it to the nearest bank as soon as he got that check from Ubisoft. How'd they went from that hidden gem that was Wildlands to this is beyond me. But I will say this. In terms of creating a beautiful open world sandbox, Ubisoft got the best people in the business. But in terms of telling a story, they can probably find some better people. Really, really, want to jump back into RDR2 and go online. But, I got Jedi: Fallen Order from the Redbox clearance and my buddy says it's a do-able platinum. So, I'll install that tomorrow morning. |
mega man 7 last boss so fucking hard... jesus christ... can barely get a hit in
