The plus is hes facing the Giants, who are solid but not overwhelming offensively.

Got hurt again this year. He's been having knee problems over the years. Not a good sign for a catcher.

Schlomey 06-10-2013 10:27 PM

Thoroughly was enjoying the Orioles game until the delay happened. That 6th inning was awesome and there is something "whimsical" or "childlike" about watching a game where the guys are playing in the mud and pouring rain...

so then I switched over to the Blue Jays/Sox game...lasted 10 seconds before they called it for fog...

SOOOO....then I switched the the RedSox vs Rays game and within 1 minute of it being in I see Joyce hit by a pitch and the benches getting cleared in an all out donny broook.
kinda....

but yeah... A GREAT NIGHT FOR BASEBALL

The Condor 06-10-2013 11:42 PM

John Lackey's contract somehow makes the Yankees look sensible.

The Condor 06-11-2013 12:21 AM

Sox-Jays is damn fun to watch tonight

Frank Drebin 06-11-2013 12:53 AM

Love these games delayed by inclement weather. Goofy shit always seems to happen.

Boomer 06-11-2013 01:51 AM

I just hate that Evan Gattis isn't playing every day. Even so, putting up some ridiculous pinch hit stats.

Bad News Gertner 06-11-2013 06:39 AM

Chris Davis, 0 for his last 15.

CAN YOU SAY TRIPLE CROWN!!!!

Damian Rey 06-11-2013 10:02 AM

I think the way Atlanta is using Gattis is brilliant. Hes below average at getting on base, and if he plays every day, that probably gets exploited. Instead, giving him regular at bats as the premier bench guy gives him a chance to do a lot of damage without getting over exposed and possibly slumping. Brilliant.

Boomer 06-11-2013 10:18 AM

Gattis is average at getting on base (better than Simmons, Heyward, Uggla, and BJ Upton right now), and leads the team in OPS and HR. He led the teams in RBIs for a while as well. I think he is maybe the best bench bat in the league, but I hate that we don't have a place to put him.

#Braves Gattis is 6-for-8 with a double and four homers as a pinch-hitter. Just absurd.
— David O'Brien (@ajcbraves) June 11, 2013

Damian Rey 06-11-2013 03:51 PM

Just looked him up, and you're right about his obp. Hadn't looked in a but. He pikes on RBIs because hes hitting for ungodly power in RBI spots, including pinch hitting. He still gets steady playing time, and thats been a huge plus for Atl. Considering hes got no position, they're doing a good job utilizing him.

Boomer 06-11-2013 04:21 PM

He has had the most plate attempts for any catcher on the team, but if McCann had started the year I'm not sure we'd be talking much about Gattis. I've just watched more games that I would like of the Braves offense scuffling and Gattis being stuck on the bench. I want him to play because I want him to get enough experience to continue adjusting to the Majors. It's likely that McCann is on his way out in ATL, so this might only be a problem this year.

And I do hope they make an exception and put him in the HR Derby. He'd be a prime candidate.

Bad News Gertner 06-11-2013 11:52 PM

Jose Bautista ties the game bottom of the 9th 2 out 1-2 pitch with a solo jack!

Boomer 06-12-2013 01:45 AM

Braves lose 3-2, and Gattis sits on the bench the whole game. Not sure why they didn't pinch hit Gattis for McCann in the 9th since they had a lefty pitching.

Bad News Gertner 06-12-2013 04:06 AM

Wooo Jays win.

Tyler Flowers might be the only catcher more useless than J.P Arencibia

ClockShot 06-12-2013 07:22 AM

David Wright and Robinson Cano are YOUR Captains in this year's Home Run Derby.

Hanso Amore 06-12-2013 11:28 AM

Love seeing Donnie Baseball throw Trammel to the ground.

I wouldnt trade Dioner Navarro for Tyler Flowers right now. :wtf:

Bad News Gertner 06-12-2013 12:40 PM

At least Flowers doesn't try to throw out runners from his knees like Arencibia.

Yes, a MAJOR LEAGUE catcher does that. Explains why he's thrown out one runner all season.

Schlomey 06-12-2013 03:57 PM

Damn the Orioles are getting ass raped in the 7th :(

Yeah thats goofy. I know Sandy Martinez (guy who caught Kerry Wood's 20k game) used to do that at times. Did anyone else? Benito Santiago? Probably not him though.

Triple Naitch 06-12-2013 06:59 PM

Pudge could do it, but that's because he was a beast.

This year it was a foot issue but he's about to return to Triple A game action. I'm hoping he'll be in the bigs in August.

John Buck's knees will be shot by that point. Dude plays almost every day it seems.

Bad News Gertner 06-13-2013 04:57 AM

No way he's gonna have along career at catcher at this rate. Maybe a move to 1st base might be a better option. Can't be worse than Ike Davis.

Evil Vito 06-13-2013 08:29 AM

The Mets have promised Terry Collins that his job is safe for this year and his contract status will be revisited at the end of the season. More troubling though, reports out of Mets camp is that Wally Backman has ZERO chance of managing the team despite him moving up the ranks of the organization. They feel he would be too much of a headcase to deal with the NY media.

Because why would you ever want a manager that the players have raved about and that would rejuvenate the fan base? I'm sure the Bob Geren Era will inspire more confidence.
