This show being two hours is great... Feels like a "PPV" but is only two hours, leaving me wanting much more... And so many wrestlers who have still yet to appear, meaning it'll be hard for it to get old/boring

slik 10-02-2019 09:55 PM

I am usually not a fan of the Young Bucks but I have enjoyed this match

Evil Vito 10-02-2019 09:56 PM

Meltzer Driver turns into the Codebreaker. Love it. Fun finish.

Dark One 10-02-2019 09:58 PM

Jack Swagger is no Lex Luger, but it'll be interesting to see what he can do if he's motivated, and he's a "big" dude, which the AEW roster needs.

Evil Vito 10-02-2019 10:02 PM

Loved that debut episode.

Jordan 10-02-2019 10:02 PM

Wow... I did NOT see that coming. I like the idea of this massive stable trying to dominate. Can't wait to see how they flesh it out. Great first show. It wasn't like OMG THE BEST MATCHES EVER... but it was such a good wrestling show. Can't wait for more!

xrodmuc316 10-02-2019 10:02 PM

KIRA 10-02-2019 10:03 PM

They literally swept the stuff from the table under the ring apron

Dark One 10-02-2019 10:03 PM

Fun time once we got through the rough second half hour. Some rough spots to even out, but given how they've evolved across the first few special events, I have hopes there'll be some great adjustments and improvements as the weeks go on. It has a very different feel from everything else, even NXT, which is neat.

Probably going to stick with watching AEW live because I can just watch NXT on the network tomorrow. If AEW consistently has a replay immediately afterwards, that might open the door a bit.

Just happy to have two really strong products, assuming AEW matches their potential, in NXT and AEW.

Droford 10-02-2019 10:03 PM

He has a good shot at succeeding in this type of environment versus the promo/painfully scripted heavy environment of WWE. I can't say I can recall any "great" matches he's had, but he has the credentials to be great in a primarily-in-ring product.

rez 10-02-2019 10:06 PM

Emperor Smeat 10-02-2019 10:07 PM

Pretty sweet stable of guys Jericho has assuming it sticks.

Very entertaining show overall and even better, AEW managed to fix all the production issues that plagued their earlier PPVs while managing to feel different enough from WWE's TV style.

Also happy that if AEW's debut show is any indication, its going to easily fill the void left by Lucha Underground for my weekly wrestling watching.

Good show. Hearing Tony and JR together is weird but great. Like hearing WCW and WWF mixed together.

Flipped over to NXT during a few commercial breaks and thought the AEW show was more appealing. Going to watch NXT fully now.

Lucha Underground killed a lot of my Swagger enthusiasm but he'd definitely work as a big enforcer type for a big stable rather than trying to give him a big push solo.

Was gonna say, the featured guys at the end were all established (hungry) guys who've paid their dues. With Hager and Jericho, especially, you have guys that will clearly be awesome with their reins removed.

Them trying to push him as a dominating beast despite him not really fitting in or clicking with their style of wrestling was pretty bad at first. He only got really enjoyable when he joined the evil supernatural group even if led to nothing because of LU's demise.

Allie and Britt Baker vs Bea Priestley and Penelope Ford

BigCrippyZ 10-02-2019 10:21 PM

So that's the first two hours (and full show) of any wrestling product I've watched since WM and overall it was incredibly more interesting/entertaining than anything I've seen from WWE in years.

Yes, there was a lot of talent I didn't know, and it wasn't all great and had some slow segments/spots, but I'm actually really looking forward to next week's episode. If only to just see where things go from here, and ideally, long term they continue to improve/deliver on what we got tonight, and they develop/flesh out and I learn and invest more into the characters and feuds.

One thing I loved was that they setup so many potential future feuds and matches, and (without having the show be a complete clusterfuck,) each separate story line and feud wasn't treated and didn't feel completely disjointed or unconnected to the others and the overall show.

This show was a great start.

rez 10-02-2019 10:23 PM

I was indifferent toward him in WWE but I tend to not care about anyone once WWE gets ahold of them and robs them of everything interesting.

He’s got the look, he’s fine in the ring and he’s got that MMA legitimacy now. Especially with the size of most guys today, if booked right, he’s gonna be an awesome throwback heel.

Lol I’m mostly just fucking with xrod because he’s ridiculous.

I assumed there wasn’t any way this new wrestling company, even with the hype behind it, had a shot at beating a show with the WWE name in the ratings. The clear interest advantage online tonight does make me wonder though.

#1-norm-fan 10-02-2019 10:56 PM

They’ve also got the star power advantage. I just don’t know how much that matters since the existing mainstream audience pool isn’t exactly huge at the moment.

Evil Vito 10-02-2019 10:59 PM

I noticed how instead of devoting whole additional segments to moving forward a storyline, they instead slotted them into existing segments. This really stuck out with Mox/Omega, but it's also the case for the women's title match where they both (awkwardly) had Britt Baker on commentary and then had Nyla Rose attack Michael Nakazawa and attempt to take out Riho after the match

It lets the show move along much more comfortably without sacrificing giving people a reason to tune in next week.

Droford 10-02-2019 10:59 PM

The Dark match 8 man tag would have been better than the MJF match. timewise they could have got it in. The MJF match just felt out of place

At least based on Twitter, AEW was out-trending NXT like 7-to-1 in regards to their main tags almost an hour into both shows.

Even in terms of amount of stuff in the Top 10, took NXT a while to get more than 1 thing trending highly. Cole vs Gargano was a bust if the idea was for it to help generate more top trends in favor of NXT.

So your argument is that because WWE hypes social media that what, I should forget what I watched and just say AEW had a better show than NXT?

I am not sure what you are trying to say. Tweets matter because WWE says they matter, Tweets matter because AEW had more?

One show was better than the other show. Tweets don't mean anything.

Something that I've noticed on the 2nd viewing is there's long air time where Tony is quiet. I wonder if he's reviewing the notes where he has to go interview between the matches? Hopefully they can utilize Crhis Van Vliet more for that role going forward.

True. From a strictly tactical standpoint, it especially means they don't have the pressure to improve the overall shitty booking and storytelling from RAW or Smackdown except for whatever pressure may come from either FOX or USA themselves. And anytime AEW does better, they can just say "Yeah, but they beat our minor league, so it means nothing" and continue patting themselves on the back... neverminding that NXT is generally their A show, as much as people don't want to admit it.

Stickman 10-03-2019 12:17 AM

I thought it was a good show and I typically don't watch anything other than WWE. I don't like how they have a commentator with a mask, that's so silly. I also can't stand big impact moves not being finishers. The first match seemed to have like 5 spots where the match should have ended. I just don't like the reliance on false finishes that these "minor" leagues do.
I do think this was a great start. JR and Shiavoni were great.

Lock Jaw 10-03-2019 12:42 AM

Did not watch "live", but just finished watching now.... show was an alright start... nothing overly goofy other than me thinking "lol the minute any casual curious person tuned in and saw Sammy Guevara in a panda hat, they just immediately turned it off"

Otherwise it was good. Nothing too outstanding, but nothing that made me want to kill myself.

Was "PrettyCool" to hear Jim Ross and especially Tony Schiavone again.

Oh, and in Canada they did not go to picture-in-picture for the commercial breaks, but just went to commercial.
