I wonder how that trend would go over time. The type of people to go to that sort of thing seem like the sort of people who would snatch up that sort of thing. Also, why aren't they subscribing to New Japan World?

Emperor Smeat 02-01-2018 08:40 PM

Seems Jason Jordan's current injury woes are way worse than originally expected. Instead of it being a regular back injury that just needed some extra rest, its a serious neck injury affecting the nerves as far down as his hands.

I actually don't know if I've seen it. I hated Cena at the time, and I hated the Umaga gimmick. But both are incredible performers so I've been meaning to go back and check it out.

Mr. Nerfect 02-01-2018 10:08 PM

I was watching some Four Horsemen promos and Dean Malenko is in a few of them. Obviously not known for his personality, I couldn't help but think "He's actually not a bad talker by today's standards." Because everyone is given scripts and charisma is stifled. And the look isn't important anymore. And being in the Four Horsemen was still kind of cool and a pretty big push based on talent in a company and time where talent meant shit.

I dunno, I'm just spit-balling here, but I think if Dean Malenko were around today, he'd probably be given the NXT Title and be used in the main event scene today. Not sure if he would actually be WWE Champion, but it wouldn't shock me. Maybe I'm just being cynical about the lack of charisma in wrestling today.

It's absolutely amazing. Probably my favourite Cena match

Mr. Nerfect 02-01-2018 10:38 PM

Thanks for the recommendation. Umaga was actually a really good opponent for a lot of the "WWE prototype" guys. Or just guys they wanted to push. Did good stuff with Jeff Hardy too. One of the better "opponents" they had.

Evil Vito 02-01-2018 10:41 PM

I remember after over 3 years of being onscreen as a total savage, they sent Umaga to SmackDown and had him actually prove himself to be intelligent and he cut promos. Shame they didn't go anywhere with that before his release.

Bad News Gertner 02-01-2018 10:54 PM

Rumble 2007 is actually a pretty solid top to bottom ppv aside from the ECW title match between Test and Lashley

Still watching old Raw from the beginning. Vince's first Raw back after the steroid trial is pretty hilarious commentary-wise. Savage constantly making references to Vince being found not guilty and Vince awkwardly just kinda ignoring it.

He's a strange one to me.

I find his name to be weird, as he would have received letters addressed to "Master Bate" as a kid.

Cool King 02-02-2018 02:51 PM

Also, he's only 20 but looks like he's 40.

Cool King 02-02-2018 02:58 PM

Speaking of strange, I had a really strange dream last night that involved me being at a WWE event.

Nakamura came to the ring and as he did, I could hear the announce team of Booker T, Tom Phillips and Michael Cole talking, and Phillips said "Nakamura" but Cole began saying "Nakamura" in a very racist Japanese accent and he found it hilarious and began doing that grunting/snortning noise he makes when he's trying not to laugh.

Suddenly, Cole jumped from his chair and ran to the back where I heard him let out all his laughter. I looked at his chair and saw that it what wet with some wet trails leading to the back.

Booker T then looked at me with a shocked face and Cole came back out with a damp crotch and took the mic and apologised to the crowd for pissing himself.

There were 25,000 subscribers outside Japan at last count. You would need 20% of them to all be in California for that date to all be New Japan World subscribers. Cuban says 200,000 or so viewers. That's impressive and almost up too where TNA is. Wish more would subscribe though.

Evil Vito 02-03-2018 05:46 PM

Not that it matters, but on their website they credited Sheamus with 20 seconds in the Rumble, which would've from the time the buzzer went off to the time he got into the ring. But at the same time they credited Heath Slater with only 33 seconds which would've been the time he was thrown into the ring to the time he was eliminated.

My best guess is it's a typo and Sheamus' time is meant to say :02, not :20. But it's funny to imagine that they've realized that they don't want a future Hall of Famer to have the second shortest stint in a Rumble, so they've retconned it.

I saw them advertising it on an episode of Raw I was watching and thought "Wait, what the fuck?" Seemed a little odd for the time but also strange looking back since the WrestleMania and SummerSlam matches are so highly regarded, you'd think this one would at least be mentioned in passing more often.

Bad News Gertner 02-04-2018 03:48 PM

Because it's a 4th rate title

Cool King 02-04-2018 03:56 PM

They really should have brought back the European Championship instead of introducing the United Kingdom Championship.

It could have only have been for European (Union Member) wrestlers to fight over and they could have even had an angle where a British wrestler wins the title on the day Britain leave the EU, only for him to be stripped immediately because even though it's whatever time in America, it's past midnight in Europe and over there, Britain is now out of the EU.

Mr. Nerfect 02-04-2018 05:51 PM

The European Title name means nothing. This gave them the chance to do-up a lovely new belt with a new lineage. And I think they do, specifically, want to focus on the UK anyway.

#BROKEN Hasney 02-04-2018 05:53 PM

Pete Dune is defending against Americans now anyway, so only a matter of time until a none be it wins it.

Mr. Nerfect 02-04-2018 05:54 PM

If they get a show going, I bet there are tons of Americans involved. Well, not tons, but a few. Dolph Ziggler, UK Champion.

#1-norm-fan 02-04-2018 06:08 PM

I'm for every title actually having a specific purpose. I guess if they wanna make it basically be NXT's IC/US title that's fine. The name wouldn't really make much sense though.

Mr. Nerfect 02-04-2018 06:10 PM

Was just looking at Chris Harrington's graph for number of matches per year and the most days between matches for wrestlers. Was bragging about how hard and how often he worked something CM Punk did? Because looking at these stats, there are a lot of wrestlers who worked as often as CM Punk -- which may not correlate with effort, mind you -- but those include Kane and Randy Orton in the same years that Punk was around.

Probably doesn't help the UK roster is really tiny. Like 6-7 guys at most and 4 of those are the actual core of the division.

Ultra Mantis 02-04-2018 06:28 PM

Yeah they've essentially been using Trent Seven infrequently, not sure if he's ever won a match on NXT though. Wolfgang and Andrews have been one and done challengers and Tyler Bate vs Pete Dunne has happened more times than either of them have shown up.

The other signed guys have either shown up on that one episode of 205 Live or done absolutely nothing.

Mr. Nerfect 02-04-2018 06:31 PM

So Meltzer is reporting that Almas vs. Sullivan was scheduled to be the Takeover match in New Orleans, which just does not make sense to me. But Sullivan is apparently no where to be seen at tapings or house shows and hasn't been to the PC. Meltz can't find out any more information. Injury? Angle? Release?

#1-norm-fan 02-04-2018 06:44 PM

Almas vs Black was the only title match that made sense for Takeover to me. If Black wins the title, him vs Sullivan would be a pretty amazing feud.

Could just be rest and/or NXT needing some time to work on actual plans for Sullivan.

Same for the Iconic Duo's disappearance in recent months which was stated to be just Creative not having them as part of the current plans for the Women's Division. There is a rumor going around implying both got boob jobs but nothing to collaborate it from the usual sheet sources.

Meltzer compared Jordan's neck issues with Arn Anderson in 1997 which caused his retirement. The surgery he needs is similar to the one Paige had.

Did they just retcon the whole thing? I thought one of the Bushwhackers had the shortest rumble time? Since they don't seem to show that "by the numbers" thing they used to every year (I don't remember seeing it anymore since Roman supposedly got the record for eliminations).

And Curtis Axel is still in the rumble from a few years ago, making him the longest entrant to date. That "elimination" by Dean Ambrose after the fact doesn't count. He has a Cal Ripken-like streak that will never be broken.

Santino “beat” the Bushwhacker record years ago anyway.

So, (given the history or Paige and/or Arn) Jordan has 5-6 years (at best) of ("quality") in-ring time left? Seems like a giant waste and/or (at least) a huge risk investing in him as a "future" in ring talent?

Emperor Smeat 02-05-2018 02:48 AM

Maybe less for best case. If what the Observer reports is true, all going to depending on his recovery and if WWE is a lot more cautious bringing him back than with Paige.

Supposedly with Paige, she was healthy enough to be medically cleared but its been speculated her neck wasn't completely ready to handle WWE's work schedule again. She probably needed several more months for her neck and to gradually transition back to an regular active wrestler instead of the 1-2 months she got.

I loved the segment. Found it to be quite amusing. Also, Michaels was the WWF Champion at the time, so chill STD.

That does not sound good at all.

Put the belt on him.

I mean Universal, not Cruiserweight.

Wasn't Triple H running the ropes for like a minute straight in that match?

Wow. Jason Jordan letting his daddy down. Kurt won a freaking gold medal with a broken freaking neck; Jason can't even show up to work for like a year. I guess the old saying "like father, like son" does not apply here.

Seriously though hope he is able to make a full recovery. The program he has been in has been awful but he is a tremendous talent in the ring. Lots of potential in the future. Would be a loss for the WWE if he has to retire and I'd hate to see all his hard work go to waste.

Bad News Gertner 02-05-2018 12:38 PM

His character is tremendous. What a shame.

Big Vic 02-05-2018 12:45 PM

Wonder if they push the storyline in a direction where Kurt takes it out on Seth or "The Bar"

slik 02-05-2018 12:48 PM

I guess that means Seth is joining da Andre Battle Royal lol

slik 02-05-2018 12:49 PM

Just do Seth/Ronda vs HHH/Steph and add Braun to Brock vs Roman. Miz vs Balor for IC title. Boom, problem solved.

Sepholio 02-05-2018 02:14 PM

Problem not solved. Putting Braun in another triple threat with Brock in which he won't go over? No thanks. Then that would somehow set up Brock v Braun singles match down the line while Roman goes off to feud with who over the title?

slik 02-05-2018 03:36 PM

Fine, put Roman/Ronda vs HHH/Steph

Brock vs Braun

Seth vs Miz vs Balor

I got for real sad upon hearing the Jason Jordan news.

Evil Vito 02-05-2018 03:54 PM

That Jordan news sucks really bad. You never want to see anyone go down with an injury, let alone one that will take ages to heal if it does at all. It's even worse that it's someone who's been killing it with his character of late.

Yeah, truly heartbreaking. It's selfish to think that he was coming into his own as far as his character was concerned. I hope his quality of life isn't greatly affected by the injury.

May as well be wearing high heels :wtf: Take those boots off and he's about the same height as Strowman or marginally taller at best.
