Kerry imo could've been a great long term NWA Champion had his demons not taken control of his life.

This guy just had the look and tons of charisma.

31 Years Ago Today:

1st Von Erich Memorial
Parade of Champions
May 6, 1984 in Irving, TX
Texas Stadium drawing 32,123 ($402,000)
CCTV in San Antonio, TX drawing 4,000

Johnny Mantell drew Kelly Kiniski (15:00).

Chris Adams & Sunshine beat Jimmy Garvin & Precious (6:00) when Adams pinned Garvin.

Butch Reed pinned Chic Donovan.

Kamala DDQ The Great Kabuki (12:00).

Junkyard Dog beat The Missing Link (6:00) via DQ.

Iceman King Parsons & Buck Zumhoffe beat The Super Destroyers to win the American Tag Title when Parsons pinned SD #1.

Fritz, Mike, & Kevin Von Erich beat The Freebirds (Hayes, Gordy, & Roberts) in a "badstreet" match to win the Six Man Tag Title when Kevin pinned Roberts.

Kerry Von Erich pinned Ric Flair (11:24) to win the NWA World Title.

There's still no official word on Sami Zayn's shoulder injury but PWInsider notes that WWE sources belief Zayn suffered some sort of rotator cuff injury, possibly a tear, on Monday at RAW. As noted, the injury came as Zayn was making his entrance for the match against John Cena.

Being implied the WWE hit panic mode which likely means all the good stuff from this week's RAW won't carry over for next week and future episodes.

Quote:

"Everybody is running to the defense of the WWE, claiming that RAW was a great show on Monday night. WHY was it great in their opinion? Simply because an NXT wrestler that they all mark out for, Sami Zayn, made his surprise appearance on the WWE's premiere show. I can only imagine when Sami got introduced by Bret Hart and came out as a surprise through the RAW entrance—to the Internet Wrestling Community is was the equivalent of Jesus himself showing up unannounced at the Sea of Galilee. But to the casual wrestling fan—nobody cared—to them this was a jobber and nothing more–so they indeed turned back to hoops.

RAW is a television show and Sami Zayn is NOT a television star—nor—will he be anytime soon. Sami is an exceptional wrestler on a wrestling show, and the only people who care about him are those die hard wrestling fans who are looking for 5-star matches that the massive don't give a !@#$% about."
From a recent Vince Russo article on his take about Sami Zayn. Also had similar harsh words for Seth Rollins. http://csrwrestling.com/sami-zayn-does-notratings/

Pros: He's 6 feet tall (Not HUGE but taller than your typical indy darling), 240 lbs., he's built and he can move like a lightweight. Plus he's only 26. Also, cool name.

Cons: Seems to be utter shit on the mic and that would probably hamper him from ever main eventing or anything. Also, cool name would probably be changed to "Jerrell Sampson" upon being signed.

Can't fucking wait to see how disappointing it is. I'm going to guess it's a member of the 1999 Scottish World Champion Curling team that attended an Impact taping once.

Possibly Hammy McMillan

Ultra Mantis 05-06-2015 10:36 PM

I hope it's Tito Ortiz.

Dark One 05-06-2015 10:40 PM

I guess Dixie said it was one of the 16 'TNA' Champs, so, removing Angle and Young--although if Russo was back, one of them may also have been the referee for their own match--that gives us:

A.J. Styles
Austin Aries
Bobby Roode
Bully Ray
Chris Sabin
James Storm
Jeff Hardy
Lashley
Magnus
Mick Foley
Mr. Anderson
Rob Van Dam
Samoa Joe
Sting

We can probably cross off Sting and Mick Foley due to being WWE contracted. Jeff Hardy's leg is broke. I can't imagine them paying for Samoa Joe or AJ Styles after letting them go. Probably going to be like Lashley or Aries who got taken out just a few weeks ago (episode airing time), which will be less than a big impact.

Droford 05-06-2015 10:41 PM

One of these

Lashley (best bet)
Anderson
Magnus
Roode
Storm
Austin Aries

It'd be funny if its Aires and he cashes in his contract in the middle of the match to rip off Rollins ar WM.
on second thought, that's probably exactly what they do

Savio 05-06-2015 11:03 PM

TNA Champ
TNA Ch.am.p
TNA St.in.g
TNA Sting
Half Life 3 confirmed.

And count the pinfall himself.

Also, Aries has a contract? I've watched very little TNA recently, because the aesthetic since they've moved didn't work for me. The weird webcam shots of the announcers' being in a booth somewhere else in the country and introducing sections of the show like a VH1 show throwing to clips was just super awkward.

Droford 05-06-2015 11:17 PM

He has the World Title Contract Feast or Fired briefcase

I'd also assume that Josh Matthews and Al Snow will be in the arena for the live show. The first episode that was live was like that

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-06-2015 11:37 PM

Have they always been able to do the Money in the Bank style cash-in?

Droford 05-06-2015 11:43 PM

TNA says "anytime,anywhere"

Oddly enough the World Title has never been won with the contract.

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-06-2015 11:57 PM

Why do they blatantly ripoff what WWE does at WrestleMania a few weeks later?

#1-norm-fan 05-07-2015 12:16 AM

Reigns has other things WWE looks for in a main eventer to make them want to push him hard. Also, from what I've heard, he might even be a little better on the mic. Hopefully Uhaa fixes that though because his half power wrestler/half high flying style is pretty awesome and unique.

#1-norm-fan 05-07-2015 12:33 AM

Random thought: I think we might see an impromptu, entirely too low key Shield reunion on Raw next week. The Shield vs New Day main event.

Wishbone 05-07-2015 12:42 AM

You know it's pretty funny that people are trying to claim that the low ratings Monday were because of the show and not because of the Playoffs. People really need to learn that wresting < basically everything else on mainstream television in the mainstream public's eyes. Any time there's something bigger on RAW will do bad, period.

Also, it's funny that Russo and others are bringing up Zayn and Ambrose when the main event was Orton vs Reigns, two guys that are considered to be the epitome of what WWE's "casual" audience wants.

I'm not trying to defend the internet darlings or anything, nor am I saying Zayn and Ambrose are going to be the next big things, but how can people seriously act like they had any real impact on the ratings at all?

People also falsely conflate "bad rating" equaling "this show sucked." They're not entirely unrelated, but really, if the rating was shit from start to finish, it's more the damage of the previous week's show. You blame it on the show itself if the ratings just keep falling hour by hour, like this:

http://ak-hdl.buzzfed.com/static/201...11596708-2.gif

I know I didn't need a GIF to illustrate that, but god damn it I wanted to post that one.

The hourly breakdown for last week:

Quote:

Hour one: 3.42 million
Hour two: 3.71 million
Hour three: 3.59 million
That's a pretty good sign that the show was good. It retained and grew for the most part, dropping off a bit at the end.

The last few weeks have been very meh. It's been pretty much downhill since Lesnar killed Michael Cole.

If the rating is even lower next week, depending on NBA Playoff competition, then maybe Vince Russo can keep crowing about SAMI ZAYN KILLED RAW BECAUSE HE'S JUST A RASSLER or whatever.

People look at the ratings in isolation way too much. Sure, yes, this is the lowest non-holiday non-football whatever episode in like eighteen years, so there is a general downward trend compared to similar competition over the past several years; but, that doesn't happen because of one show--or even ten shows, really. It's a continued lack of "must see" things that really gets exposed when there's some kind of event in contrast. More people probably bailed for the NBA Playoffs this year than previous years because over those previous years they've been taught that they can miss a Raw because what ever happens that matters or is entertaining?

People crying the sky is falling and Sami Zayn killed the Raw rating and so on are just fucking stupid. The sky has been falling. They're just noticing the chunk that landed in front of them this time. There's a problem, but last week's show isn't the problem.
