I wish they updated the design. Make it look as regal as the United Kingdom Championship. No pun intended.

Regal and the US don't mix. We fought wars to kick regality out of our land.

The strap that represented the WCW Championship, World Championship, and the World Heavyweight Championship was quite regal, don't you think?

It's one of those belts that looks good on TV, but up close and in person is a little messy. Just like the winged eagle belt. Lot's of details you don't realise are there

I've just binge watched the first five seasons of American Ninja Warrior and have just read that Kacey Cantanzaro has been signed to a WWE developmental contract. Don't know if many of you watch the show but she's hot and has some great athletic skills and strength for her height. Think she's only 5 ft.

I'm honestly not sure at this point. What's sadder is I don't care.

#1-norm-fan 01-25-2018 07:19 PM

I'm sure. WWE builds the show around any and all older guys who can still move. Can't imagine any way he doesn't wrestle.

mike adamle 01-25-2018 07:53 PM

He'd better wrestle, I paid good money to see all these dudes I grew up watching 20 years ago. I don't wanna see all these scrubs I see on Raw every week, I've already seen them wrestle each other 80 times anyways.

Found a really interesting tidbit from this week's Observer Newsletter. It involved the history of RAW as part of Meltzer's report on RAW 25th anniversary show.

Apparently the reason RAW went to 2 hours was due to USA Network having no confidence it could compete as an hour show against Nitro especially during its taped era. The reason RAW has an over-run was simply to give the show extra help at beating Nitro.

RAW itself was also originally planned to be canceled in 1998 but USA Network changed their minds because of the huge success of Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Quote:

After losing in the ratings for several straight months to Nitro, the USA Network, to counter, expanded Raw to two hours and also gave them the overrun which has remained part of the show to this day. Until recent years, the overrun was a great television idea because the wrestling audience would stay past 11 p.m., since the main event was usually in progress, keeping viewers tuned to the network, plus people tuning in for the 11 p.m. show would see the end of Raw with its final match and angle, potentially creating new fans. The overrun until recent years was always, for those reasons, the most-watched part of the show. But now, with the three hour show and viewers tuning out in the third hour, while some of those reasons still exist, it also adds to the length of a show that is already too long.

But suddenly, WWF caught fire with Steve Austin off the Mike Tyson and Vince McMahon angles, and ratings skyrocketed, not only saving the show, but making it the hottest show on cable television.

Emperor Smeat 01-25-2018 09:43 PM

Another interesting tidbit about RAW from this week's Newsletter involved Vince unwittingly playing a huge role in UFC's spike in popularity.

It both doomed RAW's future on Spike TV and WWE getting screwed with their talks with USA Network.

Quote:

Ratings fell during this period. Perhaps the most monumental thing came in late 2004. Spike toyed with the idea of putting on a show called The Ultimate Fighter at 11:05 p.m. Monday nights, after Raw. The show was a last-ditch effort by Lorenzo Fertitta. UFC, with no television and no station wanting to risk the idea of live fights, was losing money and Fertitta was considering folding the company, or selling it. In fact, at one point, it was up for sale but when Dana White was only able to get a low number for it, Fertitta decided to keep it alive and take a risk on essentially putting together a reality show and buying time on Spike, which showed interest in the idea ...

Spike went to Vince McMahon, because the feeling was that UFC was close enough to pro wrestling that it could be seen as a rival promotion. McMahon okayed Ultimate Fighter airing after Raw, and Ultimate Fighter maintained a huge percentage of Raw’s 18-34 demos and the show became an immediate hit.

In 2005, with McMahon trying to get a better deal by negotiating Spike and USA, which wanted the show back, against each other, Spike was having so much success with UFC that they publicly announced they were canceling Raw.

This gave WWE very little leverage and while USA paid WWF the $28 million that Spike was paying them, USA no longer allowed WWF to sell the advertising time like they had on Raw since its inception. So the attempt to play the two off backfired when McMahon needed USA and they knew it and he got a far worse deal.

Miz wins the Rumble and then plays chicken shit heel because he doesn't want to face Lesnar demands trade to SD. Miz wins the Rumble and then plays chicken shit heel because he doesn't want to face Lesnar demands trade to SD. Daniel Bryan won't make the trade so Miz gets pissed off and demands WWE clear Daniel Bryan to wrestle him at Fast lane and if Miz wins he gets traded and the title shot at WM vs AJ Styles and if Bryan wins he gets Miz's title shot.

What would you like to bet?

Lock Jaw 01-26-2018 07:40 PM

There are a couple videos of Becky/Sami on YouTube for the Mixed Match Challenge. All good.

Droford 01-26-2018 07:44 PM

Big Vic is in Baltimore?

I was listening to Busted Open at work this morning and they're asking for what the outcome of the Rumble will be. Seems way too obvious it'll be a SD guy since Roman can't win in Philly but he has to be #1 contender vs Brock so he wins a #1 contender chamber match created to fill the void by Miz demanding to be traded so he doesn't face Brock. Miz and Bryans history would make it hard for me to think Mix would just get his wish to be traded back to SD so there's gotta be something to happen for him to get the shot. In lieu of him wrestling Bobby Roode at Fast lane I can only see it being Miz vs Bryan for the title shot. Which he loses since history of Rumble winners putting their shot on the line isn't good

I'd say Daniel Bryan wins so he gets another title match at WM. Bryan vs Styles would probably break the internet.

I don't see any other logical choice for a winner that isn't blatantly obvious. Miz winning would be shocking I think because it would seem to set up Brock vs Miz but that match can't happen so you still get Roman vs Brock.

Savio 01-26-2018 10:28 PM

Yep.

Would you like to make an avatar bet Droford?

Evil Vito 01-26-2018 10:40 PM

Want Elias and Aiden English to start the Rumble 1 and 2 and spend the first interval singing.

Lock Jaw 01-27-2018 03:22 AM

Can someone tell me what Cathy Kelly does for WWE? As far as I can see her job is looking hot and taking selfies.

I think I've seen her do some "hosting" maybe two or three times, but mostly she seems to just go various places in the WWE office and take selfies .

#BROKEN Hasney 01-27-2018 03:24 AM

She runs their social media videos

By "runs", do you mean she is just the on air talent, while someone else shoots, edits, and posts it?

#BROKEN Hasney 01-27-2018 03:53 AM

I'm pretty sure I read that she produces it too, but fuck knows

Lock Jaw 01-27-2018 04:21 AM

I did see a selfie of her once at an editing station, but thought to myself "I bet she has never edited anything in her life"

#BROKEN Hasney 01-27-2018 04:36 AM

She was an actress prior to joining WWE, I bet she's at least edited a showreel.

She was on Sam Roberts show. Maybe you'll learn more about her there

Lock Jaw 01-27-2018 04:48 AM

You called my bluff. I'd rather just not know more about her and just look at her hot selfies.

Vince got out of sexual assault allegations by a tanning salon worker back in 2006.

There goes the WWE and XFL

#BROKEN Hasney 01-27-2018 02:01 PM

Blitkreig wouldn't have done that. He should buy the WWE.

The Daily Beast recently wrote an article revealing some details about why he never got charged. Deadspin's David Bixenspan‏ brought some public attention to this report on Twitter.

In a way it sort of undermines Vince's "purity" requirements for XFL players since as the league's only owner, he has his own shady and questionable past. Also wouldn't be surprised if Deadspin is working on their own report about the salon incident and Vince's history with sexual harassment allegations.

Savio 01-27-2018 06:20 PM

Oh wow, wonder why it's resurfacing now, must be because of the XFL? NFL calling in some favors?

Droford 01-27-2018 06:29 PM

Its the same reason everyone else is. People did dumb things 10-20+ years ago That got ignored but we're not ignoring it now

OMG Wonder if they'll cancel The Royal Rumble or hold it as one last hoorah before shutting it all down!

#BROKEN Hasney 01-27-2018 06:56 PM

The women's Royal Rumble is literally 30 women coming out to the ring to say #metoo on Vince and then jump over the top rope

#1-norm-fan 01-27-2018 07:20 PM

So they JUST now announced Reigns is in the rumble instead of promoting it on TV leading up to the show?

I always figured they'd just have a SD guy win it since they usually have the secondary title guy win for "shock value" anyway. But the fact that they went out of their way to downplay Reigns even being in the match makes me wonder...

Left before the main event finished, it was a shitty match. I am glad I went though, it was worth the $25. Brock/Kane was cool. Elias vs Finn was nice too.

That's pretty much what I do for any non-televised show I go to. Even if it's a good match I'll at least try to get myself into a favorable spot to get out of there quickly.

Like when I saw a Cody/Rey main event in a baseball stadium last summer. Once I sensed the match was winding down I got up and stood right near the corridor. The second the match ended, I made a beeline for the exit. Since Cody went over I also figured it'd buy me a few extra minutes since Rey was bound to get some heat back post-match to "send the crowd home happy".

#1-norm-fan 01-28-2018 06:00 AM

Had no idea until just now that WWE ran a full-length Royal Rumble at an MSG house show 5 days before the 1994 Royal Rumble PPV. It was won by Owen Hart.

Savio 01-28-2018 09:03 AM

I was thinking they would do a womens battle royal at the house show last night as a dress rehearsal for tonight.

Jordan 01-28-2018 09:46 AM

I really hope that AOP debut in the Rumble tonight.

They have been rehearsing actually, the house shows didn't have any women's matches.

I think Jericho will be in the Rumble. He's posted pictures of himself in Paris for a Fozzy gig tonight, but he could, with the right preparation etc, get on a plane and get himself to the Rumble in time for a late entry. And at this point I totally wouldn't put it past him to do such a crazy thing.

The Velveteen Dream can be the next Dwayne Johnson. There I said it.
