I like how they blatantly just start playing music from the Spider-Man 2 score.

The hammer in the teeth... I don't think they show the yanking out, but even just seeing it start to bleed in the gums is suuuuuper uncomfortable to watch.

Well thats kinda what im driving at. You dont SEE it you just see enough to let you imagination do the work

SPOILER: show
Even just seeing that little bit is not for the faint of heart. I'd argue it is more uncomfortable to see that part than if it was just yanked right out on camera

Destor 09-05-2023 10:56 PM

Yeah thats fair

Spider-man: Across the Spiderverse- 8/10

Lacks the charm and fun of the first installment and the characters arent as strong but the interpersonal conflicts are really satisfying and everything ties together well. Action is pretty gold and the animation is as good as ever. It falls short of the 1st film but its not bad at all. Will absolutely watch pt3

Intolerable Cruelty (2003) - 9/10

Among the Coen's funniest works. The script is as sharp and witty as anything theyve ever written and moves at the fast pace O' Brother Where Art Thou. The cast, led by George Clooney, is really excellent. Even Catherine Zeta-Jones holds her own though admittedly she is the weakest part of the film.

The climax to Wheezy Joe's arc is one of the funniest gags ive ever seen. Billy-bob Thortons bit is also excellent.

Joel is a very competent director here too. He puts together dozen or more ways to shoot the same rooms that keep it visually interesting while the cast delivers this top shelf dialog.

At is core its a romcom but it also isnt. It stands next to them in almost in a meta commentary mocking the genre. Here the Coens strike a norm macdonald-esqu snicker that only he could do where we and him are somehow cohorts in the joke he's crafting.

Its sarcastic and ironic and insincere and somehow in the face of all that its charming. The only real critique i have is due to its comedic insincerity its climax is by nature insincere. Perhaps there was better way to resolve the picture but atleast as it resolves it manages to still be cute, funny and little bit witty.

That film doesn’t get the credit it deserves so I’m glad to see you appreciate it

Seanny One Ball 09-07-2023 03:55 AM

“Oldboy” is the film that exposed me to South Korean cinema, it opened the door for so many brilliantly fucked up films and yet it is still the best of the bunch. The Spike Lee remake is trash but Elizabeth Olsen gets her jugs out so it’s not all bad.

GD 09-07-2023 03:56 AM

I saw Barbie and thought it was sweet and heartfelt. I’m obviously not the target audience which might be why I felt Ryan Gosling stole the show.

Seanny One Ball 09-07-2023 04:31 AM

That sounds like a dreadful way to spend two hours

It was alright. I didn’t hate it.

Destor 09-07-2023 12:16 PM

Ive heard tell it has a couple of musical numbers so ill check it out at some point

Seanny One Ball 09-07-2023 04:32 PM

Margot Robbie doesn’t get her tits out for a change, no thanks. Margot Robbie has really nice tits, I’m not wasting time like that.

Seanny One Ball 09-07-2023 04:33 PM

She’s one of the ones where you go “Oh wow those are great tits” but not if she keeps them in. Helen Mirren knows.

Destor 09-07-2023 05:48 PM

Solution: watch Barbie with a pic of her tits pulled up on your phone within eye sight.

Triangle of Sadness (2022) - 8/10

This is a film that really couldve taken the easy way out and still had the clapping seals rolling in the isle but instead takes the hardest route it can and tears everyone down along the way. Its really impossible to talk about the film without REALLY talking about the film.

SPOILER: show
The film is divided into a 3 act structure. The 1st act would be best described as modernity. We focus in on products of our era hightened to the extreme. They trade on beauty, models and social media influencers. Theyre vapid, shallow and dim. And the film rips them to shreds.

The 2nd act sees our leading couple onto a cruise with the most affluent. The most powerful. Their beauty is no longer the tradable commodity it was but its not without value. Still next to the rest of their shipmates theyre small potatoes.

This section could most aptly be described as capitalism. And like before its a scathing critique. It doesnt offer any counter point, its teeth are out and it attacks without mercy.

The third section sees our cast shipwrecked. Neither beauty nor currency are useful any longer. Only 1 survivor has any usable skills and she uses her skills for the good of this small society. Making fires and catching fish. Keeping them going. But she uses this "altruism" to take power and becomes a dictator making dogs of them all.

This section could be called communism. And its just as critical as any section before.

A lesser film, a more modern film, would not have included this 3rd act. Its in its inclusion that the film becomes interesting. Its where its dialogue exists. In its closing moments it raises the question "which of these societies is worth holding on to?" It deliberately doesnt answer and it deliberately doesnt paint any in a positive light. It shows them at their worst examples and rolls around in the filth.

Seanny One Ball 09-08-2023 03:24 AM

Is that the French film with Woody Harrelson in it?
I remember repeatedly looking at the poster for it and wondering if that was something I could justify spending three hours watching…
I’ll have to watch it now because I don’t want to click that spoiler.

Hollywood got her naked so fast… these modern women are quicker to disrobe than anybody ever was. I’m still trying to whack off to Angie Dickinson.

Antipating all the shitty horror movies that premiere on Shudder/AMC soon

GD 09-19-2023 02:50 PM

Watching a Netflix documentary called The Elephant Whisperers. The visuals are so beautiful.

Seanny One Ball 09-20-2023 11:59 AM

You don’t have to whisper, bigger ears doesn’t always mean better hearing.

GD 09-20-2023 05:54 PM

Watching "They Cloned Tyrone"

Lock Jaw 09-20-2023 06:41 PM

Did they clone Tyrone?

Seanny One Ball 09-20-2023 07:55 PM

They clearly did, it’s in the title

Lock Jaw 09-20-2023 08:44 PM

Spoiler alert

M-A-G 09-20-2023 10:10 PM

Did Peggy Sue get married?

Seanny One Ball 09-21-2023 04:47 AM

Look at this asshole, doesn’t even realise that the best zinger is “Did Freddy get fingered?”.

drave 09-21-2023 09:27 AM

Seanny would you like some sausage?

Seanny One Ball 09-21-2023 12:13 PM

Hey, it’s better than Bob the Butler

drave 09-21-2023 12:29 PM

Freddy Got Fingered is funny as hell because I like dumb comedy.

drave 09-21-2023 12:29 PM

What About Bob? on the other hand, fantastic film.

Lock Jaw 09-22-2023 05:38 PM

A Haunting in Venice - 8/10

I like this movie series. Perhaps liked this one more than the others because I have not actually read the book it is based on and so the "reveal" was actually a reveal. Was "worried" that this movie was gonna be "scary"... but was not scary at all

Renfield - 8/10

Loses a point for Awkwafina but gains a point for Nicolas Cage

GD 09-28-2023 02:39 PM

I could not get invested in Asteroid City.

Seanny One Ball 09-29-2023 09:38 AM

That’s because it sucked balls

GD 10-01-2023 06:21 PM

"Attempting" to watch Blue Beetle

GD 10-02-2023 08:13 PM

I'm watching a movie called Bottoms. It's similar to Superbad but the leads are lesbians.

Seanny One Ball 10-03-2023 06:06 AM

Nothing like “Superbad” then.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-03-2023 07:48 AM

I'd argue Michael Cera, McLovin, and Jonah Hill look like a bog-standard lesbian thruple.
