Winning Time on hbo

Dramatization of the rise of the Lakers dynasty. 4th wall breaking threw me off at first but its grown on me. Helps that they do it a lot less than the first episode.

Seanny One Ball 03-26-2022 07:16 PM

The guy playing Magic is honestly his double.

Incredible likeness.

Yeah I'm guessing they needed all the 4th wall exposition to lay the groundwork.

Great show. A lot of fun.

Watched the first episode of the new Atlanta season. What a weird-ass episode to start with after 3 years.

Lock Jaw 03-30-2022 01:55 AM

Second episode less weird. At least the characters were in it.

The Thing About Pam (on both Peacock and Hulu)

Probably one of my favorite series of 2022 so far. Series is based on absolutely nuts true story about a murder in small town Missouri. Funny, shocking, fast-paced. Great cast. Renee Zellwegger and Josh Duhamel are fantastic. Highly recommend it.

Re: Winning Time

Wood Harris as Spencer Haywood made my day. Just a gangsta I suppose.

Loved the stuff with Magic and Kareem as well. Great episode.

Yep it was excellent. Liked the show from the beginning but it’s finding it’s stride. I know the hyper nuances of the characters aren’t exactly true to life, but even the broad strokes of the story being true is kind of wild.

Watching old episodes of the Critic and am reminded of how great the opening theme is.

More songs should feature the clarinet.

Destor 04-08-2022 10:11 AM

better call saul s5 finally hit netflix. suoer hyped.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-11-2022 07:17 PM

As we get deeper into Winning Time, I'm really feeling the portrayal of Magic by the actor and writers. He's very likable and a clear protagonist, but also a total creep.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-12-2022 07:52 AM

Also, Adrian Brody has been low-key really good as Pat Riley.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-13-2022 11:29 PM

Also Norm Nixon's son Davon is playing him. Cool.

Fucking AMAZING

Just finished The Last Kingdom on Netflix. I was struggling to find the interest to watch this but I am so glad that I did. It took about 3 episodes before I realized this show could actually be "better than Game of Thrones". Then it wasn't before the season ended where I was like like "yup this is my show now".

If you haven't seen it and you like sword shows, this is a must see. Like GOT but without dragons and magic, and more likeable characters and better acting and writing.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-29-2022 12:40 PM

Just started We Own This City. Was dope.

I’m all caught up.

There’s a moment in one of the more recent episodes that gives the car window scene in Hereditary a run for it’s money.

It was probably worse actually, so freaking grim.

The impact was heavy but the slide…

Seanny One Ball 04-29-2022 02:54 PM

Watched “They Call Me Magic” and it’s a great companion piece.

I find it weird seeing a man talk openly about cheating on his missus like that.
Pretty decent ball player though.

Wanna see this really badly but don’t have apple tv

Winning Time is so good.

Love the tension of the coaching situation.

Seanny One Ball 04-30-2022 01:14 PM

But what of the cycling?

Brody and Segal have been excellent together. Tracy Letts, who plays McKinney, is no slouch either. His reaction to hearing "the news" from Segal was on point.

As for Brody, I guess deep down it was always in some way going to be more focused on Pat Riley. So it makes sense that the performance is slowly but surely taking center stage.

Seanny One Ball 04-30-2022 03:51 PM

“Under The Banner Of Heaven” has a hell of a cast and source material.

It’s a mini-series too so I will definitely get into it, just trying to decide if it’s going to be now or when it’s all released so I can binge it…

Sepholio 04-30-2022 09:01 PM

Started watching Halo.

Way better than I was expecting. Not sure how it's gonna go overall but its off to a decent start.

drave 05-01-2022 10:05 AM

On a whim, I started up Lost in Space on Netflix and started season 2. Liking it so far.

Seanny One Ball 05-01-2022 11:37 AM

Space Force got cancelled which is a shame because Steve Carrell and Ben Schwartz are a match made in heaven.
There were serious deficiencies in the other cast and the direction but to be fair the joke quality was pretty good.

Seanny One Ball 05-01-2022 06:02 PM

“The Man Who Fell To Earth” is pretty hacky so far, a lot like the film. It is a lot easier on the eye with the vastly superior cinematography, and soul with Chiwetel Ejiofor in the protagonist role and pseudo-Bowie as backup.

The story of this miniseries had better fix the original because it was pretty bad.

Seanny One Ball 05-01-2022 06:26 PM

Wow… episode 2 of “The Man Who Fell To Earth” was fucking great.
If it can hold that quality for the next three episodes this will be the best 5 part miniseries of all time.

5 part miniseries… what the fuck…

Sepholio 05-02-2022 12:37 AM

Was gonna pass on the live action Cowboy Bebop. The anime was as close to perfection as you can get and with the adaptation being canned after season 1, I didn't see much need to watch. Got bored and decided to watch anyways. Only a little ways in but it's better than what all the complaints I had heard made it seem. Hope it doesn't get terrible later.

I popped hard at the start of the second episode when the bounty hunter TV show came on. As soon as I heard the into for it I was marking out. Good shit there.

Sepholio 05-02-2022 12:42 AM

I think the way they handle Mad Pierrot will be the deciding factor on whether or not I approve of this version. If they ruin him they should all be ran out of the business, possibly even tarred and feathered.

It would be far better if the Kwan arc didn't exist as a distraction/filler. Everything else is so much better than those parts.

Seanny One Ball 05-02-2022 12:58 AM

Somebody watch “Under The Banner Of Heaven” with me.

Andrew Garfield in a John Krakauer adaptation?
Yeah go on then. I promise not to cry if he doesn’t.

Seanny One Ball 05-02-2022 01:02 AM

John Krakauer is a great writer.
Not a reliable narrator, but no great writer is.

I just like how Emile Hirsch and Andrew Garfield are polar opposites in terms of acting but are both perfect leads in their respective adaptations.

I really hope Ben Foster gets to be in one too.

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-02-2022 04:00 PM

Wood Harris continues to kick ass as Spencer Haywood in Winning Time.

Seanny One Ball 05-03-2022 07:40 AM

Everything about it has been enjoyable.

I still can’t stop thinking about the bike accident.

IRL that legit fucked McKinney up for the rest of his life and may have even resulted in his earlyish death.
