Archer sounds like a nice guy and I like his enthusiasm, but he is a brutal commentator haha. I want the rhythm of my Jewish Torontontian Brethren Dan Shulman. Fuck this random woman as well.
|
I get more excited when Bird or Gregorious comes up as opposed to Gardner or A-Rod :(
|
bird is a beast
|
GOT A HIT!
|
Alot of people didn't even want him to play but now Aroid is up in a playoff game down 2 with 2 on.
|
And he pops out to Center.
|
Haha fuck you A Rod

I get Keuchel was tired, but why take him out if he's been owning the Yanks all night? At least let him pitch to McCann.
|
6 is all you need from a starter. Quality start against the Yankees in the "playoffs."
|
well 6 innings and 3 runs is a "quality" start. He shut them out, beyond a quality start, and their bullpen is shakey at best as has been stated. Why not eek whatever outs you can get out of your stud whom you've trusted all season.
|
Yeah feel like turning to the pen here is bound to backfire. Astros pen has been shit this past month.
|
He's pitching on short notice. He pitched 6.0 four days ago.
|
Maybe Hinch was worried about bringing them in with runners on?

Sipp can sleep easy tonight, didn't make that easy on himself, but made a great pitch to bird to get strike 3.
|
Keuchel isn't going to start again until Sunday at the latest. There's plenty of time to rest. Feel like you should leave him out there until he tells you he's gassed.
|
He does average 7 innings per start though so it is a bit odd.

Like I get if you bring him out and he walks McCann or McCann drives the ball hard for extra bases you take him out, but jeez, trust your ace, particularly pitching on a shut out.
|
Hate the Yanks, respect the fuck out of Delan Betances and wish he was on the Jays.
|
3.

Thats it Yankees fans. Boo them. This team was supposed to finish in the bottom half of the division. They're facing one of the best pitchers in the league. Its still a save situation. But please go ahead and boo.

I feel like the Orioles helped out by sweeping the Yankees this past weekend.

If that was true they'd be playing in Houston.

Astros vs Cubs World Series so the Astros can lose the world series to both Chicago teams 10 years apart |
Yankees pretty much laid down for the Astros. Great stuff.

Is Girardi in trouble? Technically they made the playoffs but not really.

I think they proved down the stretch that they weren't too hot of a team and no where near being a competitor.
|
Which would be why the Red Sox and Jays towards the end of the season had their way with them. I mean... there were tight games and whatnot, but the Yanks couldn't get it done when it counted.
|
Had the Angels gotten hot sooner, Yankees likely don't make the playoffs. They started to really struggle once the Jays started their mega rise but the cushion they had built when the rest of the AL East was terrible was just enough to let them sweak in.
|
Forgot to do a final review of my preseason predictions:
NL East: WAS, NYM (WC2), MIA, ATL, PHI NL Central: STL, PIT (WC1), CHC, CIN, MIL NL West: LAD, SD, SF, COL, ARI MVP: Harper CY: Kershaw ROTY: Bryant CPOTY: Harvey MOTY: Maddon Pretty excellent for the most part. 4 of 5 playoff teams and I remember trying to decide between the Mets and Cubs for the 2nd WC, turns out both made it. A couple small things like not forecasting the Padres being awful but still pretty close. And for the awards all 5 are legit candidates and with the exception of the CY (voters will give it to Arrieta), the other 4 may well end up winning. AL East: TOR, BOS (WC2), BAL, NYY, TB AL Central: DET, CHW, CLE, KC, MIN AL West: LAA, SEA (WC1), OAK, HOU, TEX MVP: Trout CY: Price ROTY: Norris CPOTY: Machado MOTY: McClendon Oh dear god LOL me. I'm glad to have gotten the Toronto prediction right but at the expense of literally everything else. For some reason I saw KC crashing back down to earth and couldn't have been more wrong. Just so many things wrong across the board. Trout and Price should be no worse than runner up for their awards. Machado was a total guess as I never know who will be eligible for CPOTY. Norris should be really good going forward but didn't do enough to win ROTY, besides it's clearly Correa's award. LOL McClendon. Oh and my projected WS champion (Dodgers) are still alive but I hope they don't win for obvious reasons. And my projected AL champions (Angels) didn't even make the playoffs. |
Biggest concern for the Jays is I think Osuna is going to get lit up like a christmas tree. Not because of his 3 blown saves this season because he's mostly looked quite good, but because he's 20-years-old and he's going to be playing against the big boys in big boy situations. Still think he has a good future, and he's near unhittable when he keeps his fastball low and on the corners.
|
At least the Mets postseason gear I bought was to commemorate their first division title in 9 years. To think some people actually dropped $28 on this for that type of performance in a one-game playoff:

With the New York Yankees now out of the 2015 MLB Playoffs, the only team left, from the AL East, in the playoffs is...Canada's Toronto Blue Jays.
Never saw that coming, honestly. O.o |
Lol oh how sweet it is. Fuck you New York.
|
There's nothing that makes 29 fanbases come together as one quite like the feeling of rejoice that occurs on the day the Yankees get eliminated from the playoffs.

With all due respect, you can all go fuck yourselves

Damian Rey: whats your prediction for tonight's NLWC game?
|
Years since last World Series title for remaining playoff teams:
Cardinals: 4 Blue Jays: 22 Dodgers: 27 Mets: 29 Royals: 30 Pirates: 36 Astros: 53 (never won) Rangers: 54 (never won) Cubs: 107 jesus.........looking at it that way I really can't see how anybody outside of St. Louis could possibly want to see the Cardinals win another one |
Anybody but the Cardinals

probably the only decent post Owen's made in months

I'm betting on Chi town but it's a really a toss up. |
Considering the cards, Pirates and Cubs have the 3 best records in the National League, it kind of blows that the Cubs and Pirates have to knock one or the other off in the Wild Card game. Nature of the beast I know, but it's still whack as fuck.
|
I've always liked the idea of just taking the best records, with the bottom two getting to play the play in game, regardless of division.
|
Cards deserve the ring they won the most games in the season.

Maddon been hitting the pitcher 8th all year and for this game he decides to hit him 9th. Interesting.
Also not a fan of the recent benching of Chris Coghlan. I like LaStella and all, but I'm surprised that Maddon has taken a shining to LaStella after Coghlan was that guy most of the year. |
Probably a gut feeling. Something I'm completely against going with. You dance with what brung ya as Jim Ross used to say.
Hurdle went way too long with volquez last year and waited till he was gassed and the game was over to pull him. Wonder if Cole's leash is shorter. Granted they're two completely different guys, however I can see Hurdle trying to avoid being too passive with his pitching changes tonight. |
Schwarber with a 2 run bomb into the river. 3-0 Cubs.
And just like that, this thing is probably over in the 3rd inning. |
Too bad it won't be in Gray's Sports Almanac.
|
cubbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbies

Shit
|
Throw the bum out. 2 outs and he throws at the pitcher.
|
Why the hell wasn't Melancon tossed that was blatantly intentional
Edit I don't even know who's pitching lol |
Who gets thrown out meeting.
|
I don't know if you want to intentionally hit people in a 1 game playoff.
It's not like you're out of the game if you're the pirates. |
This'll be 2 years in a row the Pirates fell victim to a complete game shutout in their building during the Wild Card game. Ouch.
Arrieta is ridiculous. Starts practically every batter with a 0-2 count. |
GREAT SCOT!
|
Sean Rodriguez was all fired up after Arrieta was plunked, someone must have chirped that he hasn't been relevant since 2009....
|
He's only a Pirate cause he looks like Jack Sparrow.
|
I was thinking x-pac. He's certainly got x-pac heat now.
|
I'm sure there will be a lot of outcry about a 98 win team being bumped after one game, but I'm really not sure what the fix is.
You could conceivably do a best of 3 Wild Card series that runs from Monday through Wednesday with the regular playoffs starting Thursday, but what if there's a rainout or something? It could screw up the entire playoff schedule. Seeding all playoff teams by best record regardless of division winners wouldn't work either as it'd make winning the division at all somewhat pointless. And MLB isn't going to get rid of divisions to go to a balance schedule because it'd cut down on rivalry games and add a ton of miles to the travel schedule. |
I do think things will be a bit better once the league expands to 32 teams in the next few years as it the rumor.
2 divisions of 8 teams per league. Division winners get homefield in the first round, the top wild card team gets a "bye" to the division series and the other two play the one game playoff as they do now. Schedule will be somewhat more balanced then. |
Sounds too much like the clusterfuck that is the NHL conferences
|
Yah. Don't really see any way around it if they expand though. MLB seems really gung-ho on having an equal number of teams per division, hence the Astros move to the AL.
Wouldn't really like to expand tbh, there doesn't seem to be enough legit talent out there for the 30 current teams. |
Quote:

Quote:
That's another 2-3 smaller teams for every expansion team in MLB going by the current set up. Even more if you start counting developmental teams and other associated teams each MLB club has under their umbrella. |
David Price isn't very good in the playoffs

It'll be funny seeing the Blue Jays get bounced in 3.

Really excited to see Baltimore play again!

Gertner noticeably absent from this thread tonight.

Gallardo is going next for the Rangers and I don't see a very good outing in his future. He doesn't miss bats and if he's relying on the Jays to hit his mediocre fastball into outs it's gonna be a long evening.

Quote:
Regular season play: - your 3 division foes 18 times each (3 3-game series home and away)(54 games) - a 3-game series against the other 12 teams in your league, home and away (72 games) - a 2-game series EITHER home OR away against 15 of the 16 teams in the other league (30 games) - a 2-game series home and away against your "natural" rival as has been in place since 2013 (4 games) 54+72+30+4=160. Each team ends up losing 1 home date and 1 away date. |

Well that's what I get for not having cable. I'd assumed Hamels would go game one and Gallardo would go 2. I should've checked the damn box score. My reputation is now lost.
