Don’t bang women called Glenn

Seanny One Ball 08-27-2023 08:58 PM

Watching “Vacation Friends 2” and it is actually pretty funny even if the father-in-law schtick has been badly handled. It’s weird, L’il Rel and John Cena are still incredibly likeable so it’s worth pushing through.

Seanny One Ball 08-27-2023 09:01 PM

The cocaine bit cracked me up

Lock Jaw 08-27-2023 09:20 PM

Yeah, thinking back maybe I was a bit harsh on it... I watched the first one right before the second one so maybe that clouded me a little. The first one has a lot of "heart". Second one has very little "heart" but some of the jokes are alright, and it is good to see the characters again (especially the L'il Rey/Cena interaction as you say)

Seanny One Ball 08-27-2023 09:45 PM

Overall it’s pretty fucking funny, it just doesn’t give Buscemi any really good material and that is a great shame. I still enjoyed it, there’s actually a lot more heart in it towards the end of the film.

I remember really enjoying the first one because it was so daft and John Cena is just a good guy, might watch again now.

You gave it a 6/10 and I’d give it a 2.5/4 so we’re pretty much in agreement that it’s a fine way to spend the time. I like John Cena. I never really watched him wrestle and I can say the same about Batista but Cena is picking projects that I can actually enjoy. I think getting his toe wet in comedy was the right way for him to get into Hollywood, he could realistically transition into drama if he has any interest. The guy can act, I think he is actually the best actor out of the wrestlers-turned actors. The Rock is fun, Batista is fun but John Cena is actually gifted as a performer in a way that makes me think he could be the top dog if he keeps his trajectory.

Cena man… I cannot say I saw him as a great actor but he has done so well I can’t even doubt him now.

Lock Jaw 08-27-2023 11:47 PM

Cena has really found his niche I think.

Don't really remember him too well playing the serious villain role in Fast 9... but in Fast 10 they had him move into his "niche" of lighthearted funny guy.

Moral of the story, chaps: Don't stick your dick in crazy, but if you must, use protection.

The OG one or the one with Pacy from Dawson's Crik?

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-28-2023 11:09 AM

OG Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer.

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-28-2023 03:47 PM

Reversal of Fortune 6/10

Drama/mystery starring Glenn Close, Jeremy Irons, Ron Silver and Annabella Sciorra, based on the "true story" of Sonny von Bulow, and the appeal of her husband's convictions of attempted murder against her.

Close and Irons provide some fine performances, but there is something unsatisfactory about the film, which I can't put my finger on.

The guy that they based Ewan McGregor’s character on is a convicted sex offender now

That's just disheartening to learn, Seanny One Ball. Not a day goes by that I don't loathe seeing someone I looked up or enjoyed to be ousted as a predator. Luckily, as I go through my old cassette collection, I am comforted by the fact that I can always rely on the Backstreet Boys. They'll never let me down.

Helmsphere 08-31-2023 03:50 PM

I'm sure they are glad to know that you're never gonna say.

You want it that way.

GD 09-01-2023 06:05 PM

Watching Hard Eight. Didn't know such a movie existed until a few minutes ago.

GD 09-02-2023 04:33 PM

This movie is something else.

GD 09-02-2023 05:36 PM

Philip Baker Hall and Samuel Jackson are too good.

I think nearly any other film tried to have a plot as absent as this and it would produce an unwatchable mess but here i think it really works. The actors and the writing holds you firmly. You want to hear more. You want to see more. You want this despite technically having nothing going on in a larger narrative sense.

The viewer, or at least I, easily get the impression theres something more to know. Whats the angle? That sort of thing. Im a bit too tired to really dig into this but i liked it. I loved the last shot. Perhaps a PTA trope but his ability to give a massive ammount of information in the closing moments is possibly as good as it gets.
SPOILER: show
Sydney does clean the blood off. He just covers it up. This moment tells us, atleast perhaps, why he pseudo adopted John C Rileys character. He's stained with the past but perhaps has can cover his soul.

GD 09-03-2023 02:23 PM

Watching Confess, Fletch

Seanny One Ball 09-03-2023 03:37 PM

“Hard Eight” is a great film. I’m glad you enjoyed it, it knocked my socks off too. I’d say it’s his most naturally played film, it works because you just go with it given the setting. Gwyneth Paltrow was never better.

GD 09-03-2023 04:01 PM

Confess, Fletch was a fun watch. John Hamm was delightful.

Seanny One Ball 09-03-2023 06:07 PM

He is much more suave than Chevy Chase but roughly as funny. Chevy always pulled the same faces.

GD 09-05-2023 09:26 PM

Watched Mississippi Grind and the misery just hit on another level.

Destor 09-05-2023 10:08 PM

Oldboy (2003) - 8/10

Going into this i was expecting an action film. The action is ok so i was initially feeling pretty underwhelmed by it. But this is the kind of movie that lives and dies on the 3rd act reveal and it really delivers. The acting in the final sequences is really really strong.

I know there's an american version but i cant possibly imagine it working

GD 09-05-2023 10:18 PM

I don't know why I'm so afraid to watch that movie.

Destor 09-05-2023 10:19 PM

It has some body horror but its all off screen

Destor 09-05-2023 10:20 PM

The plot is ultra fucked though

There was a really bad unofficial remake of the movie that I saw at the theater when I was a teenager

remove that and there's no point tho

GD 09-05-2023 10:30 PM

It was a bad remake over all. Much worse than the Spike Lee one.
