I miss Todd Pettingill more than I miss pretty much any wrestler. The guy doesn't get enough credit for how good he was at his job.

I loved the old Slammy Awards, where it wasn't just in an arena over the course of a regular RAW. Seemed more "legit", and everyone would wear suits (this being a time when it would be weird to see most wrestlers in suits. Nowadays most wrestlers can be seen wearing suits often)

Best speech of all-time has to be from Owen where instead of presenting the category and winner, he just took it and claimed it as his own.

It is hilarious that Alberto Del Rio is a part of Team CM Punk at Survivor Series since he was the one who lost the WWE title to Punk at last year's PPV. He was also clapping for Punk's amazingly long reign as Champion.

Pretty sure it's Johnny Curtis considering the gimmick he's started portraying and the fact that the silhouette in the video looked like him and it sounded like his voice at the end.

I don't give a fuck if the gimmick is made to be a joke and he'll just be jobbed out...

Watching Goldberg/Raven for the US Title the night after SS98, and the moment he spears Raven the entire crowd jumps to their feet. The entire flock interferes and he just beats their ass and throws Kidman over the top rope and the crowd is going bonkers. Forgotten just how special Goldberg's run was.

NOTES AND THOUGHTS
The Undertaker will go down in history as having the greatest record at Wrestlemania of all time. After reviewing all of the matches it is shocking, even with the piss poor level of competition at certain points, that early on he didn't get goaded into a loss to progress a storyline.

The tombstone piledriver on the arena floor to Jake The Snake Roberts, while obviously in slow motion was nowhere near a hit, it still stands as one of my favorite childhood memories.

He gave Batista the best match of his career.

The battle with Ric Flair could easily have been a career highlight if he didn't meet up with HBK at WM 25. That match was outstanding. I never expected Flair to get as much offence as he did. Damn that Booger Red.

The Diesel match was not as good as I remember from being a kid. When I was young I thought that was the best match/feud around. Way too many rest holds, same goes for the Sid match but that one was barely watchable at parts.

FINAL THOUGHT
I personally hope that The Undertaker does not come back for another Wrestlemania. In fact, as much as I love him and cherish him this seems like the perfect time for him to remain gone for good. He is an enigma, not a superstar...I would rather remember him than pity him. A true legend, The Undertaker and his streak will stand the test of time.

James Steele 11-06-2012 09:35 AM

9/22/97: Golberg gets 1st win over Hugh Morrus.
4/20/98: Goldberg gets 75th win and becomes U.S. Champion.
7/6/98: Golberg gets 111th win and becomes World Champion.
12/27/98: Golberg's streak ends at 173-1 as Kevin Nash defeats Goldberg to become World Champion at Starrcade 1998.

Golberg had 111 matches/wins in 288 days (debut to winning world title). After winning the world title, his 174 day reign had 63 matches (with 1 being his loss to Kevin Nash). Golberg had matches every 2.76 days during his championship reign which was quite a bit more activity than that of the previous champion Hulk Hogan.

James Steele 11-06-2012 09:37 AM

I always wondered this about WCW - did Hogan do house shows? Did Golberg do house shows once he got HOT?

James Steele 11-06-2012 10:05 AM

Also, there is a person running for a seat in South Texas. I wonder if it is the same Michael Cole we all know and hate. Michael Cole is a Texan.

Nicely done. The Jake Tombstone was damn good, for sure. I really enjoyed the "jumping" tombstone he gave to HBK to finally keep him down. The last set of matches with HBK/HHH have been untouchable. I am/always have been a huge Taker mark and think it is time to hang it up as well. He has nothing left to prove, has an eternal legacy in the industry and doesn't need some fancy sendoff, save a HoF induction.

I like feuds where the face doesn't have to "even the score" all the time and instead is just made to look like there a guy that he can almost beat every time but not quite finish the job.

Therefore, I fucking loved the Raven/Dreamer feud in ECW.

#1-norm-fan 11-06-2012 11:38 AM

Sad that I couldn't watch it in real time and had to only go back and live it in retrospect. It was how more feuds should be though. Realistic with a top face simply not able to overcome a top heel at times.

ah, i'm sure if it happened now people would be complaining about how overbooked it is, that Dreamer's bland as a face, that it's gone on for too long, where's the logic in Dreamer still getting shots at Raven when he can't beat him, that they didn't like Beulah etc etc etc etc...

Okay, now that WWE has completely changed direction on SS booking, here's an updated version of my fantasy-book post from last week:

WWE Title - CM Punk (c) vs. John Cena vs. Ryback

World Title- Big Show (c) vs. Sheamus

Team Foley (Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston, R-Truth, and Team Hell No) vs. Team Ziggler (Dolph Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio, Wade Barrett, and the Rhodes Scholars)

I'd like to think this "Who's the fifth man?" drama is leading to a big return or a Miz face turn, but I just don't have enough faith in the current product to pull that off.

Team Rey (Rey Mysterio, Sin Cara, Christian, and the Usos) vs. Team Miz (The Miz, Antonio Cesaro, Tensai, and the Primetime Players)

The Miz quit Heyman's team because he wanted the spotlight for himself, so he built a team of like-minded heels (and Tensai, who also exists). Rey jumps at the chance for a shot at PTP, building a team of tag specialists with Sin Cara, the Usos, and a returning Christian.

Team Brodus (Brodus Clay, Justin Gabriel, Tyson Kidd, and Team Cobro) vs. Team Otunga (David Otunga, Michael McGillicutty, and 3MB)

Because something needs to happen on the pre-show.

Team AJ (AJ Lee, Kaitlyn, Layla, and the Funkadactyls) vs. Team Vickie (Eve, Natalya, Alicia Fox, Aksana, and Tamina)

No change from before

I can't see The Miz being a babyface. He is an extremely unlikeable douchebag.

If they simply had him start beating other douchey heels cleanly I could see him as a good cocky face.

I'd like it if they they tried something weird. Like people cheer him and he's like you're cheering for me? Really?! He tries to be a heel but the crowd no sells and cheers him anyways.

So while watching SmackDown I noticed that whoever did the graphics for this, spelt Vickie Guerrero's name wrong.
