Guess they're looking at Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and thinking "Got to get us some of that pie. What's good to the kids right now? Supernatural shit? Get us something like that."

Swear to god there's an overabundance of supernatural shows on TV nowadays.

Kalyx triaD 09-29-2013 06:47 PM

Baywatch Nights Season 2 had it right the whole time...

Lock Jaw 09-29-2013 10:29 PM

Why are you making it out that DC is trying to "get in on Marvel's action" after Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., when DC is the one that had a live-action TV show for ten seasons and then made another one which is also enjoying success, before Agents of Shield ever started? (To Shadow)

Nowhere Man 09-30-2013 12:57 PM

Because Smallville and Arrow (and the new upcoming Flash and Constantine shows) are about the actual heroes themselves, whereas Agents of SHIELD and the new Gotham series are meant to be more about the 'little guys' in a world of superheroes and villains. DC may have cornered the market on superhero TV shows first, but it's the theme that they're copying off of Marvel now, not the genre itself.

Lock Jaw 10-11-2013 06:11 PM

Scott Snyder is going to be leading up a new Batman weekly series called Batman: Eternal. With the help of a few of the other Bat-Writers.

STEPHANIE BROWN IS GOING TO BE IN IT

Awesome. Too bad about the Dean Cain, Brandon Routh, and Tom Welling snub - though at least Smallville got a shoutout.

Lock Jaw 10-15-2013 06:46 PM

Would be "cool" if they made animated movies using more "retro" style. Like imagine if the Superman/Doomsday animated movie actually looked like the comic book like in that vid.

Kalyx triaD 10-15-2013 07:09 PM

They did try to invoke the art of the comics with earlier DC Animated films, but these days they kind of default to Young Justice style as a base and deviate from there. Can't say I'm bothered but I see what you mean.

Lock Jaw 10-15-2013 07:40 PM

I'm not bothered either, just saying it would be "cool".

New Frontier and The Dark Knight Returns were "cool" because they looked like the comics.

slik 10-15-2013 08:00 PM

Can't wait to see if they do one for Bats next year.

Kalyx triaD 10-15-2013 08:22 PM

Batman and Son is coming actually.

Lock Jaw 10-15-2013 09:27 PM

Kalyx triaD 10-15-2013 10:10 PM

Oh yeah, that would be cool too.

DaveBrawl 10-15-2013 10:12 PM

One thing I never really understood about the old Fleischer cartoons...why did Superman never open his eyes?

Lock Jaw 10-16-2013 12:29 AM

Just watched the film "Man of Steel" again. Once more, I am not sure if I like it or not.

One thing I did notice this time is that Zod abandons his armor at a Lexcorp construction site. FORESHADOWING?!

Created by Chuck Dixon in Detective Comics #647, Stephanie is the daughter of a villain known as the Cluemaster. She created an alter ego known as The Spoiler in order to ruin the criminal schemes of her father, and eventually became enamored with costume crime-fighting and became a key member of Robin’s supporting cast of characters (where she was at the center of a high-profile teen pregnancy saga in 1999) until she met her first comic book demise in the 2004 crossover event Batman: War Games. In 2009 the character was revived and took on the mantle of Batgirl until the title was cancelled in 2011. When Batgirl returned as part of the "New 52," Barbara Gordon was the eponymous heroine of that series, and until now there has been no official mention of Stephanie Brown in the revamped DC lineup.

Snyder explained that "No one want to shelve her, it was more about finding the right time to reintroduce her." According to Snyder it was Talon writer James Tynion IV who came up with the plan to bring Stephanie back to the Batbooks, and Tynion told the NYCC audience that Stephanie will make her triumphant return to the DCU in the third issue of Batman Eternal, and that she will be coming back as The Spoiler.

Hmmm...

Kane Knight 11-02-2013 09:38 AM

Amazon's got ten Batman "family" collections up for three bucks each asd part of their Kindle DotD. I only really picked up the Batwoman (new 52) collection, in part because I've heard good things and in part because Gail Simone.

Still, might be something of interest to someone.

Lock Jaw 11-02-2013 09:46 AM

Gail Simone writes Batgirl not Batwoman. I hear Batwoman is still pretty good though.

Kane Knight 11-02-2013 09:48 AM

Why did they replace Aquaman with Captain Marvel? I like Captain Marvel, er, Shazam, but not sure why the change was needed.

Lock Jaw 11-04-2013 10:28 PM

Maybe they are saving Aquaman for his own AWESOME movie

Kalyx triaD 11-04-2013 10:39 PM

Actually that's the exact reason.

slik 11-04-2013 11:45 PM

I'm most definitely ok with a standalone Aquaman movie.

Aquaman is pretty awesome.

Shadow 11-06-2013 08:10 AM

I'd love for Young Justice to have actually gotten a third season to wrap up all the Wiseman plot threads. Alas, Cartoon Network is staffed by monkies who can't handle well made, thought out shows like YJ or Green Lantern.

Lock Jaw 11-06-2013 10:22 PM

Could have at the very least continued Young Justice in (digital) comic book form.

Lock Jaw 11-08-2013 09:42 PM

WB has announced that the Vertigo series iZombie is now in development for TV on the CW. Only read a few issues of the series, but it seemed "cool".

Synopsis:

Deadline.com it a "supernatural crime procedural that centers on a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. But with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories, and with the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head."

Lock Jaw 11-08-2013 09:45 PM

The writer of iZombie left DC with a lot of "bad blood" or something, though. Something about DC mistreating creators, and something about protesting Before Watchmen.

Lock Jaw 12-02-2013 12:45 AM

Man of Steel spoilers:

Quote:

"In regards to the death of Zod, whose neck was snapped by Superman, Snyder said the notion that Superman doesn't kill came from his appearances on television and the movies. "That rule doesn't exist in the comics. In the comics, he's actually killed Zod a couple of times," Snyder said. "In the comics he's more of a practical hero. His aversion to killing won't stop him from doing it if it's the only solution."
What. Has Zack Snyder even read a Superman comic?

Animal Man will be joining Justice League Canada, though, which will be by the same writer. Might have to check it out.

So that "Gotham" TV show that is in development for Fox, is confirmed to have Bruce Wayne in it and "The show will track Bruce from a child (around 12 years old) until he puts on a cape (in the finale)".

Also various bat-villains confirmed to appear, including Catwoman, Riddler, and Penguin.

McLegend 01-13-2014 07:19 PM

So it's Smallville with Batman?

Lock Jaw 01-13-2014 07:48 PM

Goyer, who of course has co-scripted and/or worked on the stories for the Dark Knight trilogy as well as Man of Steel and its upcoming sequel -- not to mention many other comics related projects -- will write the Constantine pilot with The Mentalist’s Daniel Cerone for Warner Bros. Television.

John Constantine is one of the best known characters from the supernatural side of DC. Created by Alan Moore and Steve Bissette (for Swamp Thing), his solo book Hellblazer was a Vertigo mainstay, running for 300 issues. Constantine has also been a key figure in Justice League Dark, and let's not forget that Keanu Reeves even played him on the big screen at one point!

The news follows today’s revelations about FOX’s upcoming Gotham TV series, which will reportedly be a Nolan-esque Batman origin story.

The History of John Constantine

Meanwhile, NBC has also ordered a pilot for a new procedural from Arrow's Greg Berlanti called Mysteries of Laura, which will be a “drama with a sharp sense of humor following a quirky female homicide detective who juggles high stakes crime as well as her ex-husband and a devilish set of twin boys.”

The CW has decided not to move forward with its Wonder Woman prequel series Amazon, according to Hollywood Reporter. The series had been developed based on a script by Alan Heinberg, but the network was not satisfied (see "No Pilot Order Yet for 'Wonder Woman'") and requested a rewrite by Heroes writer Aron Eli Coleite last May (see "CW Puts New Writer on 'Wonder Woman' Project").

When the network started moving ahead with a Flash series, the Wonder Woman series started to lose momentum (see "Flash Origin in 'Arrow'"), and has now been declared dead in that form at the CW by network president Mark Pedowitz at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.

New Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara wants to find a way to use the character (see "Warners Has 'Huge Plans' for 'Other DC Properties'"), but it looks like it’s going to take a different idea than the prequel concept that was being developed at the CW.

NBC also had a Wonder Woman series in development back in 2011; that series is also dead (see "NBC Dumps 'Wonder Woman'").

It's not like the rest of the Justice League look happy to see him either. I'm sure it'll be fine, maybe.

Fignuts 01-18-2014 06:39 AM

Yeah, guessing it's like Sabertooth's last venture with the x-men, where he was on the team due to the situation, and not because anyone actually wanted him there.

Nowhere Man 01-18-2014 12:26 PM

I'm honestly kind of amazed DC hasn't tried this before, given that "arch villain joins the heroes" is a favorite in Marvel's playbook, and DC has been trying to imitate Marvel for like thirty years or so.

Kalyx triaD 01-18-2014 02:01 PM

The 'strange bedfellows' thing is a fine line for me with comics. It bothers me for two main reasons:

1) It almost always demands somebody severely breaks character for it to work. Under no circumstance could Wolverine and Sabretooth share living spaces for more than a day, without turning it into a warzone. At the very least, I like that they ended that arch with Logan starting a fight for seemingly no reason while Creed was just watching TV. Course correction.

2) They pretty much never play it in reverse. When bad guys join the good guys they don't have to be mind-fucked or tricked or anything. It's something, somehow, the good team has to deal with it. 'Shake things up' and whatever. But when a good guy takes a trip on the dark side there has to be all sorts of narrative apologetics to explain it. So we have the spells, mind-fucks, illusions, possessed bodies, etc. By this standard villains have more capacity for change than the heroes.

Fignuts 01-18-2014 02:13 PM

You are thinking of the first time Sabretooth joined the x-men. The second time was acompletely different story. He didn't so much join them as he did place himself in their captivity to protect him from the Children.

Doctor Doom teams up with the heroes all the time, to tackle a larger threat. As does Thanos.

Point is, they don't have to stray from his character to make this work.

Lock Jaw 01-18-2014 03:24 PM

Apparently the Ted Kord Blue Beetle is back as well, and will also be a part of the Justice League.

DC has cancelled the following titles and they will have their last issues in April:

NIGHTWING (they better not kill off Dick Grayson in Forever Evil)

Superman Unchained (maybe Snyder and Lee's take on the man of steel isn't selling as well I thought it would).

Justice League of America (will be replaced by the new Justice League United)

Justice League of America is being "relaunched" with a different title.

Superman Unchained I think has been known to be a limited series for quite some time. They originally said it would be ongoing but then changed their mind and said it would just be the one story.

Shadow 01-23-2014 01:12 PM

Yes. But only if it's written by Gail Simone.

Blonde Moment 01-23-2014 09:07 PM

Just watching the episodes right now and they are not too bad aside from the appearance of the Joker (just seems too normal looking) and the CGI use is pretty apparent

Kalyx triaD 01-23-2014 10:54 PM

People need to learn to ease up with the limitations of a TV budget. Even something as well funded as Smallville had noticeable and glaring CGI, but that's a TV budget. I'm tired of reading people point it out like any sci-fi/fantasy show had effects worth a damn.

But yeah, Birds of Prey should get another shot. Especially within the Arrow-verse. Perfect fit.

Lock Jaw 01-23-2014 10:59 PM

I would watch a show with Sarah/Helena Black Canary/Huntress teaming up to fight crime and possibly find redemption for past sins. Maybe Deathstroke cripples Felecity and she becomes Oracle, moves over to Birds of Prey spin-off.

Kalyx triaD 01-23-2014 11:13 PM

After Justice League War, all DC Animated movies will now share continuity. Son of Batman may be excluded since it was commissioned earlier, but everything going forward is connected. This pretty much means, as I've stated long ago, that everything will pretty much be New 52 adaptations or original stories in the New 52-verse.

Clarity:

"This will definitely be the first salvo in doing new movies that are in continuity with each other. [...] Our next movie's going to be 'Son of Batman,' and that Batman will be the same Batman that you see in 'Justice League: War.' Basically, we'll have two concurrent series of Justice League movies and Batman movies, and they'll be in continuity with each other. So it's kind of world-building."

Tucker did make clear they are still doing 'Elseworlds' type movies like Dark Knight Returns, even citing Red Son and Gotham by Gaslight by name. So this seems to be the new set-up:

New 52 (JL movie, Batman movie)
Elseworlds

Why only Batman movies? Seems weird.

Maybe that's all they are ready to reveal at this point. Son of Batman was leaked before they were ready to announce it wasn't it? So maybe he's just trying to keep future projects quiet.

Gotham by Gaslight sounds interesting.

Candice Patton has been cast as the female lead in CW’s pilot for The Flash, according to HR.

Patton, whose TV credits include the role of Olivia on Heroes, as well as a role on The Young and The Restless, will play Iris West, a grad student who is Barry’s best friend and daughter of Detective West (played by Jesse Martin –see “ICv2 - Geek Movie, TV Round-up”). The character is also listed as becoming an eventual love interest for Barry, which, if they stay true to comic cannon, should eventually lead to a wedding. Grant Gustin has been cast in the title role (see “'Flash' Cast”).

I wonder if her detective dad will be trying to catch The Flash.

Guessing Flash will be a lot more liked in Central City.
