Eh, she doesn't really look like Trish. Except for the hair and boobs, which you could say about probably 2/3 of the roster.

The one time I saw Maria in person she was so orange that I was literally "taken aback" by it and couldn't notice anything else.

I'm not saying it's her fault, or that they should just quit. I'm just saying that average or slightly above average talent and writing is now accepted as great because it gets over with a slight majority of fans. She's far from the worst talent sure, and yes, she's got a pretty face and a pretty decent ass for her body type. She's over with a slight majority of people. None of that makes her great or actually over in the grand scheme of things though. It just makes the whole scenario mediocre and people accept this mediocrity as greatness, which is the problem.

The fact that the talent pool is shallow makes her being "decent" stand out more. Sure, it makes her seem better than she is, but the fact that everyone is generic, and she stands out makes it more likely to heap the love onto her. Hell, Edge and Christian were putting her over huge... pretty sure I heard Austin saying he was impressed with her work. There's work to be done with her, but a lot of people feel there's much to be excited about. She's a relative newcomer, after all... think she only started in 2013. |
I like her because she has worked very hard to improve, and genuinely cares about her performance. Go back and watch one of her earlier nxt matches and the difference is night and day. She puts on a better performance every time I see her, and I think she is eventually going to become a truly great worker. Reminds me of Trish in that regard.
|
Also believe some people here are downplaying how good her promo and character work are. Not just the promos themselves, but the delivery, her timing, and her facial expressions are all on point. Yes it's a familiar character archtype, but I feel she executes it extremely well.
|
I think the one thing that's tough with the girls these days compared to Trish and Lita (honestly those two are in a league of their own) is that they could hang with the guys.
No, that doesn't mean they were anywhere near as good technicians, but they seem like they belonged in the shark tank. They had no problems taking a fucking beating and paying their dues, and in those moments when they dished it out, it was believable. There was a magic those 2 had with their personalities, which while the girls today are better athletes and "wrestlers", they aren't better talents. Alexa to me at least, isn't completely wooden like the rest of them |
Shes def a good promo, best the women have seen in a considerable ammount of time.
|
Lita was rubbish
|
Lita was a skank. Who hasn't she fucked in the locker room?
She should just be a groupie. |

Lita couldn't wrestle but I still thought she was great. I do get not liking her, but she had an "it" factor
|
Her "it" factor was a thong.
|
hey man, people gave a shit. And for all her flaws, she worked her ass off, and was a larger than life personality. Girls fucking worshipped Lita.
|
She was def over, can't argue.

I like watching New Japan occasionally but the cultural/language barrier hampers it. WWE is the only company currently capable of hitting all the check marks so the fact that they've been so complacent and haven't really tried for the past decade and a half is maddening. |
That's fine. I totally get not being happy with WWE. It's people etting upset and going on rants over stuff they don't even watch that's befuddling to me.

I had a Hart Foundation poster on my wall as a kid with Dad bod Bret Hart, but he was very pale and pasty in it. |

"Purple is the best color." "Do you have evidence to back that up?" I don't need to have even seen purple to ask that question. That's hypothetical, but I don't have any specific circumstances that you're referring to to respond to. I can also very freely comment on how uninterested I am in the current product. I've been a wrestling fan for years -- it's hard to just "switch off" to something you used to love. It was a part of my routine for years. Sure, I could just turn myself off completely to the WWE instead of vaguely following it (and it is getting dangerously close to this point), but the fact that something I should be the ripe market for is so emotionally disengaging is a point all on its own. There's a difference between saying "This sucks and I haven't watched it" and "It sucks that this hasn't made me want to watch it." It may be befuddling to you, but if we're trying to be so sympathetic to the "opinions" of others, mine doesn't really need to make sense to you anyway, right? |
Lita worked in the sense that she worked. You can't deny that she was over and that's a measure of some level of charisma, whether you think it fickle or not. There were plenty of women who could have gone into a thong and done botchy stuff off the top, but Lita was the one who did it.

For some reason I can't find a clip of this...
Back in the late 80's/early 90's WWE did a dating game parody and Bret Hart was one of the bachelors. The lady asks him what kind of wrestling moves he'd use on her and Bret, with all the charm of a serial killer is like "Well, first I'd put you in a sleeperhold. Then I'd pick you up in a fireman's carry... Then I'd take you upstairs and ravage your body." It was awesomely creepy. lol |
.... #Clips4SaleHitman
|
how did the woman take that?
|
It was great because at first you're like "Oh. Innuendos. So silly and harmless." and then by the time he gets to the "ravage your body" part you're like "What the fuck!?"

hahaha Bret does not want to be talking there.

it also sounds like Anvil is calling his penis the Anvil.
|
Neidhart pretty golden there right after Hart's creepiness, too.
"Things start happening, pictures start falling off the wall, all kind of things start happening. Heheheheheheh. Romantic things." |
I like how Bret gives a pre-amble that he's an in ring technician and that's why he'd lock the sleeperhold on, followed by the firemen's carry, and ravaging.
|
The great technical wrestling move of ravaging an unconscious woman's body.
|
|
He'd certainly execute excellently.

Matt then turned up the weirdness, and basically acted like he was the star of some camp melodrama. They involved drones, Matt Hardy's gardener (the gardener's Twitter was easily the best bit), and did backyard garbage matches that were poorly filmed (but that was the point, of course), with special effects. Matt ate ectoplasm at some point. He also developed some new catchphrases by saying things in a funny voice and reworking them time and time again. |

Hmm, that was either from that, or from Jeff Hardy doing his Willow stuff years back. Not sure if he jumped off trees in an actual feud though.

Jeff got "broken" via a feud he had with Broken Matt leading to Jeff being "deleted" as a Hardy and becoming "Brother Nero." Just like Matt, he also started to act more stranger than usual. At some point in the story, Matt suffered both from amnesia and got struck by lighting as a way to return him back to normal Matt Hardy. Last big storyline for the Broken gimmick in Impact involved the Hardys preventing the end of the world by keeping the tag belts. Somehow they also gained teleportation powers when it came to them appearing in other promotions while still with Impact. |
Quote:

People liked it ironically
|
Motherfucking hipsters.
|
The DELETE thing was because originally when Matt Hardy went BROKEN he was feuding with Jeff Hardy, who he called Brother Nero. Matt was saying that Jeff was shaming the Hardy name by being OBSOLETE or something and that Matt should be the sole legacy of the Hardy name, and that Brother Nero must be DELETED.
Brother Nero was then DELETED and Matt continued to use DELETE as a threat against other foes. Then Jeff Hardy somehow became BROKEN too and they were a team again. |
A lot of posts appeared while I was writing that.....

Why are we not having a longer dialogue about bret harts rape scenerio

Also was a legit top act for Impact considering they've only had 3-4 weeks with better numbers than the final big Broken/Deletion episode since the Hardy's left.

Saying the ratings were better for TNA is being generous. There was some mild increase, but it's not like they created 500,000 or anything. Basically anyone who watched TNA was joined by a few people who didn't usually watch, but was going to check out the geek show.
What long-term benefit or growth did it offer TNA? None. Absolutely none. It left them in no better and no worse shape than before it had happened -- which was not great. And yes, the kangaroo stuff would have surely upset some people if they had actually seen it. |
