I feel bad for sasha now. But it's prob why she comes off with having a cool personality, women who are totally 'perfect' have less character.

Another Superstar Shakeup might be happening after Summerslam according to PWinisder Elite.
:lol |
Yeahhhhhhhh I think I'm gonna be taking a WWE break after SummerSlam. It was always going to go into a lull between then and the Rumble anyway.
Have so much I need to catch up on anyway. Still gotta watch all of G1 (staying away from the thread to not see spoilers) and I've got several CHIKARA and LU seasons yet to go through. I only have so much time to allocate to wrestling and WWE is drawing the short straw. |
1 year anniversary of the beginning of the brand split is tomorrow..feels like it went pretty fast

Could argue both brands tag divisions ended up being the biggest losers because of the amount of breakups done recently. |

Good to see Seth in here and that he's doing stuff. Awesome.
I've never really gotten into the Superpodcast, but I do love me some Brian Last on Cornette's podcast. During the Russo stuff, I heard some moments where he was dropping the logic bombs that even Cornette wasn't touching. |
This brand split has been a disaster. My interest in the overall product has never been lower. They try to make SmackDown unique, but it always comes at the expense of RAW. They've just got too much for anyone to really be a consumer of it all, and that's going to have some long-term negatives.

Also what was up with Balor wearing that athletic tape on his shoulders or whatever that stuff is called? Guy seems more injury-prone than Kennedy... Kennedy. I don't see him having a very long WWE tenure to be honest.

While Hunter has been instrumental in bringing back "talent" that had parted ways with the company on a bad note, I don't think he'd be interested in bringing back Punk with respect to the dirty laundry he aired on his ex best friend's podcast.

Is he no longer friends with Colt?
|
There was a rumor on the internet that Colt was backstage at WWE in fall, last year. Punk thought it would compromise their ongoing legal issues with the doc. They don't follow each other on Twitter anymore.

I am more excited for the WWE's Q2 Financial Report than I have been for anything they've put on television for a long time. I'm curious to see how this turns out. They always seem to come up profitable and pull a rabbit out of the hat and play the expanding game to keep shareholders happy, but everything has seemed a lot more...delicate lately. The television has been finding it harder and harder to retain its position in the ratings, which means advertisers aren't going to pay as much for the slots, which means that the USA Network is going to stop paying WWE so much, which means that these expensive expansions are going to put them into the red. Maybe.
It's frustrating, because you can see why they are doing shit. I've always thought that the WWE would try and set up a "WWE India" brand by buying out Khali's promotion or something. It wouldn't surprise me if the only reason they put the belt on Mahal was to send him there so that they have "Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal" even if no one gives a fuck about him. Like, not so much as bring viewers in to SmackDown (that has been a colossal failure), but as a way of getting a television deal in India and supplementing themselves. It's just...fuck me, you can see why the product is struggling. It's the actual wrestling stuff. It's the three-hour RAW and the commitment they ask of people for a stale product and wrestling that is, frankly, bland. You know the solution is to create real stars with charisma that draw people in so the product gets hot, more people watch, and there is a higher demand for what RAW (and SmackDown) bring to the table. You know that a three-hour RAW isn't worth the extra money, because fewer people are watching. You know that pushing mid-carders and jobbers into the main event is disengaging viewers further. But it's like the WWE isn't a wrestling promotion anymore. It is more important to get Nikki Bella out there so that they can get drumming about Total Bellas so that they can take the money for that and keep funding this expansion -- rather than focusing on the domestic front. It's like the WWE isn't a wrestling promotion anymore. |

I listen to snippets of The Bryan and Vinny Show, but I'm listening to their entire one on Battleground, because it's funny to hear them rant. God dammit does this show sound horrible outside The New Day vs. The Usos -- which even so felt like it had some bad shit at the start.
Was Corbin vs. Nakamura really that bad? |
I liked it. Thought that their Smackdown match was better, though.

Emma was directly named in the speculative post I saw. She sounds like she wants out. I'm sure there are quite a few people in the company whose morale is not quite as high as some of the other guys who seem to be having the time of their lives. I can see some "shockers" in there. |
Quote:
|
Yeah Emma's definitely a goner. Just going through the roster with who I think could be cut:
Main roster: Alicia Fox: As much as I like Alicia Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks, they don't really do anything with her other than placing her in dating storylines which invariably result in her going batshit crazy. Then the storyline ends and she's left with nothing again. She's been on the main roster for 9 years at this point and hasn't done much save for a quick Divas Title run and that 5 star classic with Melina. The Colons: Another tag team bites the dust. The only reason this might not happen is because Primo's out with a knee injury and firing him while hurt may be viewed as a dick move, but them setting up a store on Pro Wrestling Tees seemed telling. Dolph Ziggler: This might be viewed as "the big one" but I don't think it'd be any real surprise. He's been creatively frustrated for years and even after a much-needed heel turn hasn't done much of importance. Nakamura even said on Talking Smack (RIP) that Dolph wanted to go to Japan. He'll be in Bullet Club before the end of the year. Luke Harper: I'm torn - I want to be wrong with this one because I think WWE are missing the boat on him big time. But at the same time they've squandered so many chances to get Harper over. Are they really gonna just start teaming him with Rowan again as Breezango's attackers or move him to Raw to make him a Wyatt for the 12th time? He could be doing so much more and at 37 with 15 years of wrestling under his belt maybe it's best to set him free while he's still got some gas in the tank. Mickie James: They don't seem compelled to use her so she might just be on the way out. This most recent run will get conveniently swept under the rug in a few years when she goes into the Hall of Fame. Rhyno: He's 41 years old and just a comedy act at this point, mostly just eating in the background. Cutting Rhyno will break up yet another team but to be honest Heath Slater is wonderful and probably better off on his own. Sin Cara: This one's been a long time coming. The dude is 39, has fought with half the roster backstage, and doesn't ever get used on TV. That seems like a recipe for an easy cut. For what it's worth, WWE keep trying to find "the next Rey Mysterio" but then rarely use any of their masked dudes. Kalisto's getting jobbed out and Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado don't even appear on 205 Live. Sin Cara's still the easiest cut of the group but any of them going wouldn't shock me. Tony Nese: Nese has a great look but he's probably the most likely guy from 205 Live to get sent packing if they don't cut Dorado or Metalik. He's just sorta there. Could see him doing really well for himself back on the indies. Unofficial cuts - Kane and Mark Henry. Neither will be released per se but I think they're both done as in-ring performers. Henry's transitioning to a backstage role and Kane will probably do the same if he doesn't win the mayoral election. NXT: Aliyah: Pretty sure she's pissed off a lot of people in charge as is and there are plenty of more women that will be debuting on NXT over the coming months. Buddy Murphy: The fact that he's engaged to Alexa Bliss might be the only reason he hasn't been cut yet. I'd probably just re-form Blake and Murphy and have them be Alexa's personal bodyguards/bitches. Stand in between her and the other female wrestlers in a confrontation, hold the doors open for her, carry her to the ring, etc. And it'd be an easy way to get a new team on the roster. Failing that I see no future use. Roderick Strong: Strong is an entertaining in-ring performer but personality wise he's bland as bland can be. They've just brought in a new batch of former ROH guys and Strong seems redundant at this point. His meal ticket to the main roster may have been Aries sticking around for a tag team run and that's now gone. Sawyer Fulton: Nothing against the dude. But he had multiple failed gimmicks, finally seemed to get something good in Sanity, and then got hurt and was replaced. I just don't think they're gonna use him much. Wesley Blake: See Buddy Murphy, except he doesn't have the luxury of getting to fuck Alexa Bliss in real life. |

Really need to let Gallows and Andersons personalities out on tv
|
Quote:
Alicia Fox: I can see it. The same with Summer Rae and Dana Brooke. They need women, but they don't really use these women. Brooke is green and fit in that bodybuilder sort of way, so she might just get re-allocated to NXT or put as someone's henchwoman again. Summer Rae recently got some publicity, but they're doing nothing with her, so you couldn't call it a shock. Alicia Fox seems...just there, but I can imagine Vince really loving her wacky stuff and her getting to stick around. The Colons: Primo won't go, because he's hurt, regardless of if there are plans for him or he requests it. Epico is someone I can see going. Apparently they are miserable, so it might be a "mutual thing." Dolph Ziggler: This is the "shocker" I could see coming. They see uses for Dolph, but lately he has been...underwhelming in that function. If he hasn't turned into the locker-room leader they want him to be, I can see it being a situation of "we'll talk in a year after you have some stock back working indies, Japan, exhausting entertainment options or just rehabbing." Luke Harper: One I considered. It's not like they seem to have anything for him. Erick Rowan seems a lot more likely, especially if they are set on them not being a team. But maybe they do become a team? It's just a case of how they feel about certain bodies on the roster once they do the cuts. They might "have room" for Harper then. Mickie James: Not with any hostility, but I can see this being a case of "we gave you a run, it was nice to see you, but we don't have any plans. Stay in touch." Rhyno: I get where you are coming from, but I can see Rhyno staying. Rumors had him going to SmackDown soon. He seems to be having fun and popping the boys. He's probably a good example to them to stay healthy, stay in shape, save your money, etc. He's probably working for chips and helps out with a lot of backstage stuff. I mean, if you are trimming the roster, it would make sense to get rid of a guy like him that you have no plans for, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's around after it all. Sin Cara: Yep. Tony Nese: This is a funny one. From the perspective of a fan, he's never meant anything and he's just sort of hovering about, so why would you keep him? But I just read something about him working more television matches than anyone else this year. They clearly have a function for him. It wouldn't shock me in the slightest, but I can see him staying if they are going with this cruiserweight thing. Kane and Mark Henry: Yeah, I think you're right about that. They'll probably still use them for spots and stuff, but I don't think they're going to be part of the main roster going forward. Aliyah: I had no clue about this drama. She's pretty young and even NXT doesn't seem to have much for her, and they are probably going to stock up on some for these Mae Young Classic girls. I had her on my list before I knew about the drama. It might be a case of "go out there, mature a bit and we'll talk in two years or so." Buddy Murphy: I can see this one in the "We've tried a whole bunch of stuff with you and it just hasn't clicked." He seems to be a Triple H favorite, but you can kind of feel the lack of anything happening. It wouldn't surprise me, but it won't be for any hostile reason. He's a dude I can also see going to Japan and getting crisper before coming back. Roderick Strong: I actually can't see this one. I haven't been a fan, but I think he'll slip onto the main roster very soon -- even if it's just as a body for 205 Live. I can actually see him winning the Cruiserweight Title to stick it to Austin Aries. I dunno, I'm kind of expecting them to go forward with Roddy. Sawyer Falton: This one I can't see either. I haven't been following NXT, but I can see him plugging in somewhere. Wesley Blake: I find something quite charming about Wesley Blake, and I think in time he'll find something, but like Buddy Murphy I can see it just being the culmination of what he's gotten from NXT and how it just doesn't seem like the right step forward with him right now. I hope he doesn't give up. |
Haven't the Colons already been cut?
|
Quote:
I didn't realize Nese had worked more TV matches than anyone - I do like him a lot but that's still a surprise stat. And yeah, Rowan makes more sense to cut than Harper but at the same time Rowan is somebody they could easily send back to Raw and throw back with Bray and nobody would think twice - especially since it's been implied that Rowan's still controlled by Bray from afar. Harper on the other hand seems to have properly "broken free" as Strowman did. I actually could see Harper himself wanting out just because there's clearly going to be a nice market for him outside of WWE. |
Tony znese is incredible. Really hope he stays.
Also that Braun story sounds fake as fuck. |

I don't know why I find joy in this, but it amuses me that Lance Storm and Cyrus are terrified of Suzuki. |
Some other names I thought about:
Apollo Crews: He's got the Titus Brand stuff going on, but how important does the company see it? And the reason he's in that situation is because they're clearly worried about his personality. Big Show: Not as an official release, as I think he'll be in that same class with Kane and Mark Henry, where if they're ever in Tampa they'll give him a buzz and get him to come out and Chokeslam someone. Or if they ever need filler for a Royal Rumble. He'll probably get offered a much smaller contract to not go anywhere else and still appear in video games and such. Bo Dallas: Before this Miztourage thing, I had him in mind as a guy they'd cut to go and get more experience elsewhere and find a gimmick that "clicks." They clearly like him, but what's he really getting from being there? And what are they really getting from him? That being said, he has a role now. But that could be changed very soon, with Miz being frustrated and firing him and Axel and his boys. Cesaro: He's a champ at the moment, so I doubt it would come right away, but I can feel them being exhausted with him. Like Luke Harper, with fewer guys on the roster, I can see them finding more cause to do things with him when things are tightened, but I wouldn't be astonished to hear about a quick switch of the tag belts and that Sheamus turned on him and now he's gone. The Cody Rhodes/Hardcore Holly thing. Curt Hawkins: He's there to lose to people, which is fine, but it's a role they don't really "need." When cutting costs, that sort of role could be filled by a local each week. They've let him go once. It's clear he's not going to be a star. It could just be his time. Curtis Axel: I'd keep him around, because I think he's a funny enhancement guy, but there's a definite ceiling on the guy. That being said, he's got the role now, but if they're trimming down, you can just imagine Vince McMahon seeing his name and saying "That guy still works for us?" Darren Young: I don't know if he's been medically cleared yet, but they've tried a lot with him and none of it has worked. It wouldn't shocked me if he didn't go, because he's got all those PR things they love, but I can see that also frustrating Vince, and in a big pack is the way to let him go. Enzo Amore: He's pissed people off backstage and they seem "done" with him. They might keep him because he's a good talker, but if they're cutting what they perceive as fat, they might feel it better to not have him around at all so people stop asking "Why are you doing this to Enzo?" This will be the Damien Sandow firing, if it happens. Goldust: Like the Rhyno situation, as a veteran who is probably there for cheap and being a leader, it wouldn't be shocking if he stays, but when you're cutting costs and you've already played this Goldust nostalgia thing out to minimum noise, it might just be a respectful "let's just use you on special occasions for stuff like the Dusty Rhodes Classic, etc." Kalisto: This one would shock me a bit, because there's clearly a place for him, but they're not putting him there, and what they've tried with him just hasn't worked. But they don't hae much Hispanic representation. It's a weird situation. I'm leaning towards him staying, but I wouldn't gasp. Anderson & Gallows: Don't really expect this one, but given that Vince thought he would be getting two stars from Japan, and what he's gotten are two guys who are basically exhausted opponents, I can imagine him having a bit of buyer's remorse. I think it would be bad for morale, because apparently they are well-liked, but all firings are. This would be one of the bigger ones, and people would be upset and whinge about tag teams, but I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility. R-Truth: The veteran tap. He's annoying to me, but he's good at doing the fun stuff at house shows, I guess. They might want to do something with him in a more cleared up roster, but he falls into that Goldust and Rhyno category for me. Titus O'Neil: They seem to love him, but everything he just doesn't work. They have seemed to acknowledge that by taking him out of the ring, but no one really takes the role seriously. I think he's one of the more unlikely ones, especially given that feel-good stuff he does, but when cutting the costs, he seems like one of the least detrimental cuts to the entire roster. Cruiserweights: None of them would surprise me. They represent a lot of cultures and that sort of thing, but beyond Neville, who is really important to them? Who has worked? Jack Gallagher, maybe, but you can't run with that forever (they might try though). I can see Kendrick becoming an agent or trainer, but I could see his talent contract being terminated. Even Akira Tozawa wouldn't shock me. Have they even used Metalik? Will they once this current crop of guys are gone? Are they paid enough for Vince to care to fire them? None would shock either way. Aiden English: I like English and I think he fills a good role. I could see him being paired with Elias Samson down the track. But if things are as dire as the company makes out, and they clearly have no serious intention of doing anything with him, I can see him being a cut of the glut, so to speak. James Ellsworth: This one would be somewhat surprising, since they've plugged him into all these storylines, but it's like the Colin Delaney thing. Vince gets over these acts, and they definitely have a shelf life. Deep down, he probably knows how lucky he is to get as far as he has. The Ascension: No offense to these guys, but I'm surprised they have lasted as long as they have. Tye Dillinger: They brought him up, it hasn't worked, they gave it a shot, "we like you, pal, but it's just not the right time for us." I am tempted to put an act like Mike Kanellis in here, but it's too soon for even Vince to cut bait with that. Dillinger is new on the main roster, but he's had over a decade long relationship with WWE, and it's only gotten ironically noticeable very recently. Zack Ryder: I struggle with this one. You'd think they'd have released him years ago, but he always manages to survive. He hosts a YouTube show or something for them apparently. I thought "Man, they won't cut him because he's doing that thing," but maybe they want to cut the show? Does it make them money though? But what do you even do with the guy? He's not good enough to warrant much. I see him staying, but it wouldn't surprise me if there is only one Hype Bro left and they don't even get to the heel turn. Becky Lynch: I'm half-joking with this one. But they clearly don't have any intention to use her. Kevin Dunn hates her voice. She's actually had quite a few clunkers, despite being "good." Maybe they offer her a training position or agent role, but I could also see her being one of those people they just feel better off not having around if they are trying to push other talent, because they feel she's too distracting, or whatever. This would be the most heart-breaking one, but there are usually a few that do get people upset. Tamina: Okay, yes, they need women, but Tamina has been their AGES and it has never meant a thing. They've got Nia now. They could get other girls from this tournament. I wouldn't relish in her losing her job, but there's only so many times she can be the bodyguard before it just runs it course and proves ineffective. I felt like she might have been going before the trial with her father stuff came up, but then you don't really want to put her firing in the news. Then there was a brand split and there was this practical reason to try something with her. It might just be another case of exhausting the options. JBL: Okay, this one won't happen unless JBL wants a holiday, but with Renee Young working both shows and Corey Graves already being there for the 205 Live stuff, I could see them cutting down on their slew of announcers. They probably should have gotten rid of him during the bullying thing, which they didn't handle well. Vince loves him, but looking at things pragmatically, do you really NEED him announcing your shows? I imagine he probably gets paid more than some of the active talent too. |
Assuming the rumor about the roster cut does happen, can see it just being a few from the main roster and the real bulk from the Cruiser and UK divisions. Both right now are a big drain on the WWE. NXT probably getting a big batch of cuts because of the amount of new people recently brought in.
Main roster divisions don't have enough depth right now or in the immediate pipeline outside of the women's division to survive major cuts done there. Doubt Triple H would be happy again with another gutting of NXT. |
Didn't read that whole post, but "lol" @ Becky Lynch "They clearly don't have any intention to use her".
She has just been one of the focal points of the division since the start. Yeah, she isn't the champ or going for the title right now, but they always make sure that she has some story going and is on TV most weeks. |
Oh, and you know? Another two that would be "big shockers," but really wouldn't surprise me, are Lana & Rusev. Just something about their personalities makes me think that Vince hates them a lot, and they're probably on good deals.
The ones I'd actually predict are Hawkins, Enzo, Goldust (it feels like he got to do it as a goodbye), English, Ellsworth, The Ascension, Emma, Epico, Sin Cara, Ziggler, Mickie James, Murphy and Blake. Maybe Almas and Itami too, to be honest, if they are miserable. But I could see them randomly getting called up to fill some spots and at least try some stuff before they let them go. Promote them and see if things clear up, and if they don't work, then it's the release. You know what? Fuck it, I'm going to put Dallas, Axel, Rusev and Lana in there too. |

I don't think they will. Neither division is particularly stellar and she is a good sidekick for whoever the top babyface is, and they haven't done the Four Horsewomen Four-Way. It was a hyperbolic suggestion, but would you truly be shocked by it? |
I want a Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Enzo Amore match.
Only because I'm a sadist and I amuse myself with the idea of this conversation taking place in the audience... Fan 1: (coming back from the concession stands) Did I miss any... What, what the fuck? How did Enzo end up like that? Fan 2: Zack Sabre Jr., man. Fan 1: But, how did he tie Enzo up in a bow on that post? It's perfect in every way. The human body doesn't bend like that? Fan 2: Neither did Enzo's. But it does now! Because Zack Sabre Jr. |

If they decide to put Gargano, Strong, Itami and Kalisto in the Cruiserweight Division, you can basically sub out four of those guys who just haven't clicked or whatever without losing depth or numbers. You can also probably cut some more given that they aren't using everybody. I can see Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne being brought into the main roster and the WWE UK idea just being scrapped. |

It wouldn't surprise me if they "shut down" NXT. Vince can see it as 95% of the people called up from NXT flopping around like fish out of water on the main roster. Aside from the women that were called up who basically compruse 80% of the current women's roster (Tamina natty & Mickie ) . the only guy that's been called up from NXT since it was a network show and amounted to anything was KO..and maybe Neville but he flopped and they redid his whole character. Finn Balor has even been a flop. Samoa Joe doesn't really count. The list of flops is a mile long.

Interesting. I don't think they will, but I imagine it costs a lot of money to run, and they probably don't make much. How valuable is that experience? Arguably, not very. I can still see them doing Takeover shows with talent that are training. There's a way that I could see that working. Obviously it won't have the same week-to-week story, but more of a showcase.

Holy shit, Ron Fuller's story on Jim Cornette's podcast is AMAZING!

According to PWInsider, the story about Karen Angle and Braun Strowman getting into an argument is true based on their sources but the incident itself was said to be nothing more than just "a drunken conversation between two drunk people in a bar that got loud, nothing more."
Doesn't necessarily debunk the stuff about Karen cutting a promo against Braun or Braun begging on his knees thought but incident was likely less wacky/crazy than people are speculating. Quote:

Otherwise its not doing the majority of wrestlers in nxt any favors having them be huge stars in nxt only to have them get torpedoed the minute they get their break on the main roster |
