I already know…

drave 07-11-2022 12:45 PM

You have the Collector's Edition yeah?

Man, what a cigarette you are.

drave 07-11-2022 12:45 PM

And now that last sentence reminds me of "Ashtray" from "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice In the Hood".

Great movie.

Seanny One Ball 07-11-2022 01:22 PM

None of what you just said makes any sense whatsoever as a response to what I said.
Hopefully that’s not you paying for cheap doctors again because if it is I’ve got dollars to doughnuts your ass is so full of cancer it actually connects to your brain stem.

You’re usually a lot smarter than this.

Like that time you nearly burned your house down, that had real comic build up.

drave 07-11-2022 01:56 PM

I know man. I told you my brain has been short-circuiting lately, and I'm serious.

My ass is fine, it's my throat sphincter failing me that will be my undoing.

Mark Schultz just has sellers remorse.

at the olympic trials mark won in the most dominant win of his career. The Olympics he deliberately jobbed to deprive Dupont the win. In the film mark loses day 1 of the trials and overcomes to win in the 2nd and 3rd matches. In the Olympics he just loses. Pretty large departure and not nearly as interesting.

Seanny One Ball 07-11-2022 02:26 PM

Oh that, I thought you were on about the gay stuff.
He definitely had a taste.

Frank Drebin 07-11-2022 02:27 PM

Destor really knocking himself down a few pegs. Now he badmouths Big Trouble in Little China.

Well guilted.
I hope you’re mostly just making me feel bad here, if not then start drinking heavily to cover your ass. You don’t want people knowing your actions are beyond your control.

Funny enough that video pprompted me to watch it

Lock Jaw 07-11-2022 07:25 PM

It would have been better if they were singing

Destor 07-11-2022 07:28 PM

Well that goes without saying

Destor 07-11-2022 07:30 PM

Kurt Russell was an elvis impersonator oncs upon a time. Great voice on that guy.

Lock Jaw 07-11-2022 07:32 PM

Speaking of Elvis, I want to see that movie with Tom Hanks.....

Lock Jaw 07-11-2022 07:33 PM

On the subject of Big Trouble in Little China, I watched it for the first time a few years back and thought "that was it?"

Destor 07-11-2022 07:36 PM

The evlis films trailer was good. Hopefully the film can match

Lock Jaw 07-11-2022 08:04 PM

Would have been better if Tom Hanks was playing Elvis, not his manager

Blonde Moment 07-11-2022 10:59 PM

It is a take on a story that was touched upon on Twilight Zone and modern podcasts like The No-Sleep Podcast. I'd give it an 8/10.

I saw it was announced it's going video on demand Friday. I'll probably check it out this weekend!

This version of valkyrie is ok. She was great in thor 3 but here she's only present because its expected not because they had a story for her. Its whatever.
SPOILER: show
Id have prefered her choosing to sit on the sidelines to focus on protecting her people. It would have felt more honest. But whatever.

Ugh, I know I'm coming across as beating a dead horse here but, I'm sorry, I like the Sif character so much to the point where this really bothers me. I actually went back and watched the two episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in which she appears because she gets way better treatment there. Jaimie Alexander just plays it so straight and so serious which consequently makes things funny as hell when she has to interact with non-Asgardians and the brief hints of romance with Thor lay the groundwork for something to be done in a film like Love and Thunder. I don't know if they just don't have confidence in Alexander or there was some mandate from the top that Valkyrie had to be a major part of this but it really doesn't matter because I'm a sad panda either way. Now to go watch the first Thor movie again.

XL 07-13-2022 11:27 AM

I wouldn’t even say Valkyrie is a “major part” of this movie. She’s there, sure. Her character has 0 going on. We don’t see how she’s getting on as King. She has no real love interest. She doesn’t grow. She’s literally just along for the ride.

See, that's the other side of the coin. If she (Valkyrie) is going to have to absolutely be in there, make it worth a damn. With Sif in the mix you get to explore questions like does Jane feel even more inadequate having to compete with a fucking goddess? What does Sif think of Thor feeling such attachment to a mortal? What did she think of Jane at all in the first place? Has her opinion of Jane changed now that she's able to wield the hammer? Does Thor feel pulled in two different directions? What was his relationship with Sif like before? There's a lot to do there but nope, we got to have bare ass humor and screaming goats.

XL 07-13-2022 12:43 PM

The movie did everybody dirty from a character POV. Really disappointing stuff.

Thor: Love and Thunder 6/10

Don't feel like getting into it now. I will tomorrow.

Seanny One Ball 07-15-2022 07:12 AM

Watching “The Black Phone” which was recommended to me via Slik.
I was already debating it because the reviews have been very good but it hadn’t become available to me yet.

I’m twenty minutes in and it already has me sold. It is unusually well acted for a genre film and the set pieces are building it up as more of a psychological horror. The child snatching aspect is chillingly presented. This film could genuinely upset me but I feel like it is moving like a real film should. Whoever put this together made the effort for this to stand out.

Seanny One Ball 07-15-2022 08:46 AM

The Black Phone - 3.5/4

I was thoroughly impressed with the acting, the story and the decision to include some levity in the form of fairly brutal yet fantastic adolescent violence. I enjoyed it immensely. I was worried that the ending was going to take away some of the opportunity for the lead actor to “have his moment” but all fears were unfounded and oh boy was that ending satisfying.
Before I watched it I knew it had four things going for it:

Ethan Hawke
Jeremy Davies
James Ransone
Blumhouse

Never doubt the credentials.

Seanny One Ball 07-15-2022 08:49 AM

I rated it slightly higher for pure surprise at how suitable parts of it were for daytime viewing. This is a psychological horror if you are a grown up, there is no visual scare to be found besides the child snatching and occasional mild fright.

Destor 07-15-2022 10:46 PM

Red Army - 9/10

Really insightful documentary that uses Soviet hockey to illuminate the political structure of the time and to pull back the curtain on the types of men who are now leaders in the Russian government.

Lock Jaw 07-17-2022 05:23 PM

Thor: Love and Thunder - 6/10

Kinda boring.

Damn, son. That sounds like a professional movie review. I am waiting on a friend to get back to watch it. I watched Jurassic World: Dominion in the meantime.

Destor 07-22-2022 09:05 AM

Spiderhead- 6/10

This is a really good script betrayed by having an ending tacked on. And its a real shame. In the 1hr 40min run time if you cut the the 20 min that takes place after the climax youd have something here. It has a great premise, Miles Teller and Chris Hemsworth both give strong performances, the writting is clever and well foreshadowed and it explores both the human condition and society in interesting ways. It has really everything youd want from a good sci-fi story. Its forced ending really betrays the films tone in a way the can only hurt it. I cant tell if they wrote themselves into a corner or this ending was forced on them.

I would give the 1st 1hr 20 min an 8 and the last 20min a 6. <strike>I split the difference.</strike>

SPOILER: show
the story feels like it should have had a much darker ending. Likely the source material, being a short story after all, ended in a bleak way. Thats an assumption on my part but im willing to bet im right. The films ending is out of an 80s summer comedy and completely works at odds with the rest of the film. On some level they knew this because they set the last 20 min to an 80s sound track. It doesnt justify this shift however.

Destor 07-22-2022 10:18 AM

Thinking on this i just cant imagine the ending wasmt passed down on them from the studio. It flies in the face of the film. So out of place...
