There's so much to enjoy from tonight's episode.

1. Riddle and Cena's interaction was perfect.
2. Viking Raiders and Jaxson Ryker winning their respective matches. WWE giving newer talents a chance?
3. Sheamus dominating cruiserweights. Can't wait for the bully to get his comeuppance.
4. Sheamus AR and entrance package being gorgeous.
5. Mustafa Ali and Mansoor teaming up next week. WWE giving newer talents a chance?
6. Lashley overcoming a fan favorite and cementing his legacy as a credible world champion as he moves forward to defeating Goldberg at summerslam.
7. Mahal's henchman getting destroyed by x number of chair shots.
8. Eva Marie being fantastic in her role.
8. Keeping Rhea Ripley strong as she put on a valiant effort in the title match.
9. Nikki finally becoming champion.
10. Jeff Hardy's amazing theme song.

If you didn't get anything out of the three hours, there's something really wrong with you.

I don’t pay a dime for any subscribed wrestling content. I only pay using AEW PPV because it’s worth $25 every few months to watch a show I’m likely to enjoy. If they ever want monthly PPV mode I wouldn’t purchase every show and what I like about the product would prob suffer because monthly PPVs either means rematches or rushing storylines.

In the post MITB Raw in 2011, the show drew nearly 5 million TV viewers. A decade later and Raw is hitting record low numbers and routinely finishing with less than 2 million viewers. Something doesn’t add up there, and it’s not because those missing 3-4 million people have pedestrian taste or are sheep. When tv shows get bad, or stale, or never reward their viewers with satisfying payoffs, people stop watching. WWE isn’t losing nearly three quarters of their audience because Dave Meltzer is selling rumors on the internet. It’s because their product just isn’t any good, their roster stale, and very little if anything they’re producing is entertaining, intriguing, or exciting.

Vince McMahon is insane. It keeps doing the same shit over and over again despite the results being the same; declining ratings, declining interest and apathetic crowds. He’s getting paid a shit ton of money to produce content and that’s great for him. His business acumen is undeniable. But his creativity clearly isn’t speaking to people anymore and the fact that they’re continually losing their audience speaks to that.

And I never had hopes they’d appease my tastes. I just hoped they’d produce simple and quality storytelling that they’ve shown they’re capable of, instead of churning out the same old shit week after week. And when they stopped entertaining me, I just turned it off, like 3 million other people, and found something else to watch instead of hoping one day WWE would be good again.

1. Riddle is cringeworthy minus Orton
2. Viking Raiders will go back to doing nothing in a few months, as usual, and Ryker is boring AF and a black hole for charisma
3. Sheamus vs Humberto has happened umpteen times
4. He does have a good entrance, I like Lashley's as well
5. See Viking Raiders, really a shame in Mustafa's case too
6. Lashley will likely drop the title to Goldberg to increase RAW ratings IMO
7. Jinder is boring, ditto for hench people
8. Rhea is lame
9. Nikki is lame
10. I'm indifferent to this but many do like it, so I give you that

You really feel strongly about this considering that you stopped watching it a long time ago because the product sucked. It's like coming back to a toxic ex because the sex was insane am I right?

Since you're fixated on the declining viewership, let's talk about WWE's record profit numbers and how they've signed huge deals with USA / Peacock, Fox and countless outlets overseas. They're incredibly profitable and doing just fine with or without you. At the end of the day, it's a successful business and have pioneered their industry.

Damian Rey 2.0 07-20-2021 01:49 AM

Man if they put the belt back on Goldberg lol. A match against Roman would make way more sense for Goldberg since I don’t remember him getting his match with Roman done because of covid.

The Cena match is a slam dunk angle to go with for summer slam. But after that, I would’ve been good with Goldberg challenging for survivor series, and hopefully the Rock at Mania. Hell, maybe bring in the brinks truck and Lesnar for rumble title shot. Just let Roman spend the next 8 months running thru the stars of the past until you build/find someone worthy of dethroning him.

I already mentioned and credited Vince for his business acumen and ability to get corporations to pay him lots of money to produce weekly content. There’s no argument there.

That still has nothing to do with declining viewership or your silly claims that it’s the pedestrian tastes of marks and not a crappy product that’s driven away most of their viewership.

And I’ve not come back. The only reason I know what’s going on is because of this board. I skimmed thru all the PPV and skipped Raw completely because after watching a mediocre smackdown I couldn’t find the energy to sit thru a three hour wrestling show for a product that I don’t enjoy anymore.

Excuse you sir. Riddle is consistently putting on amazing matches without the need for straps, exploding barb wires or coffin drops. I do think he'd benefit from a focus group though. It's hip and very unoriginal to hate Riddle. He's the highlight of the raw brand.

Creating new stars often means taking chances. Ryker is much better than Dominick Mysterio but unfortunately his political views do not line up with the fans so it's easy to hate him. How dare they even take chances or try? Ripley is floundering but she still has a long way to go. Orton's first reign as champion didn't even last a month. Nikki's far from lame. Her new superhero gimmick has potential but you and twitter have already made up your mind.

Also Mahal is a throwback and far from boring.

You're not so bad after all. I too enjoy skimming through content and voicing my opinion because it saves me time and gives me an opportunity to blow off some steam. I'll admit that WWE's current product leaves a lot to be desired but it isn't all bad. Sunday was spectacular and all ppvs showcase amazing in ring competition just like AEW but without the gimmicks for the most part.

slik 07-20-2021 02:04 AM

I liked Riddle's "Fight Pit" match w/ Timothy Thatcher in NXT and I thought that gimmick match had good potential for the main roster (much more so than RAW Underground). I personally find the no shoes thing weird because feet are disgusting but I won't hold that against him as a wrestler.

I think his main roster character has been very dumb and cringey personally (ditto for Nikki) but he could overcome it in time, I'd be fine with being wrong on that.

Riddle is pandering to Vince's sensibilities. He's a smart man and knows what will make him successful. The man is self aware, talented and a prick. He's got it all.

Nikki created the new character and it is as pure as the woman behind it. There's always room for straight babyfaces. It's refreshing to see a non edgy character for a change.

So dumb. He was lip syncing Scarlett's part of the song too and now I picture him sounding like The Undertaker from Suburban Commando.

She's so great

Mr. Nerfect 07-20-2021 04:24 PM

Watched Raw highlights. Holy shit, get rid of Kevin Dunn. Not doing my ironic praise of WWE thing, the booking here was actually really clever in certain places. They really managed to make Drew McIntyre look good, and a lot of the things they are holding back on are going to be able to be played out in coming weeks.

The Hardy/Kross stuff works because, let’s face it — Kross is not Goldberg. Nor does he have that potential. Now Kross has an actual program and is forever going to be linked to the guy. They could do a Ladder Match at a PPV over a belt in two years or whatever and it could have a feel to it. Plus, I’m pretty sure they are going to bring in Scarlett to “ramp up” the act and have Kross focused by her.

Plus, it reminds people that the only show AEW can beat is where the rookies play. Their champion just got outfoxed because this isn’t the minor leagues, son. And that could always turn into something down there.

But god damn, those camera cuts. It’s a ridiculous idea and they are insane for thinking that is a good idea and doing it deliberately. Just ending that shit will increase viewers by several hundred thousand right there.

Mr. Nerfect 07-20-2021 04:26 PM

I’m convinced that the Cena/Riddle stuff and Riddle dropping his first name is because Vince didn’t get Riddle at first, but then felt like he “got him” and his name is Riddle? Ha! Perfect.

Mr. Nerfect 07-20-2021 04:28 PM

Even the Alexa Bliss stuff was toned down from what it could have been. It’s still horrible. Hopefully they leave the magic to AEW. Keep Alexa in that MITB gear though.

slik 07-20-2021 04:57 PM

Roughly 3 million people lost in the past decade. Ouch.

Bad News Gertner 07-20-2021 05:39 PM

Everyone watches Raw on the Network/streaming devices. They are probably getting like 5-6 millions viewers in reality.

screech 07-20-2021 05:45 PM

Are those streaming numbers factored in/tracked somewhere?

Mr. Nerfect 07-20-2021 05:55 PM

So John Cena brought the average up an extra 330k viewers even though he was advertised at the top of the show? That’s not bad at all.

That’s about 1/3 of AEW’s entire audience right there.

Mr. Nerfect 07-20-2021 05:56 PM

I wonder what it’d look like if you took the peak of Raw’s viewership and compared it to AEW. You know, like how the reverse is done.

I'm sure USA/WWE are fine with this number tbh. Post MITB Raw usually gets a 10% bump and they got a 20% bump.

They’re making piles money to put their TV shows on plus getting more revenue for loaning out the network. They’re not going to care and shouldn’t until the tv deals are up and the money starts talking a hit because of declining viewership.
