Kalyx triaD 03-21-2012 06:00 PM

OMG tell me if that's real...

Lock Jaw 03-21-2012 06:31 PM

Dunno if the poster is legit, but the movie title and it being in Japan are real. I think it is supposed to be released sometime in 2013.

McLegend 03-23-2012 03:33 AM

I just watched X-Men First class again.

What a great movie. Fassbender and McAvoy just kill it.

McLegend 03-24-2012 01:11 AM

One other thing about X-Men First class...

I think it makes X-men: Last Stand a much better movie. It drives a lot of those themes from that movie home.

Kalyx triaD 03-24-2012 03:55 AM

Yeah, they didn't go that or anything but it fits like a glove.

Kalyx triaD 03-28-2012 08:27 PM

Ms Marvel Graduates to Captain Marvel:

Proud of her.

dronepool 03-28-2012 11:20 PM

The design is blah, she needs long hair.

Lock Jaw 03-28-2012 11:47 PM

One of the things that bug me with Marvel is how often characters will change hero/villain names and costumes.

Pick one. Stick with it. You can tweak it, but largely leave it alone.

You can't make them iconic if they are gonna continually change.

Fignuts 03-29-2012 01:34 AM

What the fuck is that? Why?

Leave Captain Marvel alone. Have no idea why they repeatedly try and bring back Captain Marvel. It always sucks, and is nowhere near as good as the original.

Shadow 03-29-2012 10:34 AM

....so Carol's now a butch dyke? Well...ok.

Kalyx triaD 03-29-2012 12:23 PM

Saw it coming.

Inadequacy 03-29-2012 01:16 PM

Kelly Sue Deconnick is writing it, I don't care about the haircut I'm chexking it out.

Hello gentlemen. Got the Marvel subscription service that I'm trying out for this month. Been reading like a madman. Catching up on all the Civil War stuff, trying to get into Black Panther, and and in the middle of New Avengers (2010).

You seem like experienced Marvel folk. What should I get started on? I'm open minded and will probably be into most things.

It's basically an X-men Wetwork team, that Cyclops put together to go do things that "Heroes" shouldn't be doing. i.e. violently slaughtering the bad guys.

Both volumes also have outstanding artwork as well. It's probably my favorite book right now.

Skippord 03-30-2012 02:40 PM

I totally bought those on your recommendation and they are awesome

Nark Order 03-30-2012 05:18 PM

Figgy, so start from the Vol. 3 2008-2010 series and then move up from there?

Reavant 03-30-2012 05:28 PM

If you want to laugh your ass off you should read the entire run to date of the deadpool comics that started in secret invasion

Nark Order 03-30-2012 05:34 PM

Nevermind Figs, I found the series that you're talking about to start from. Marvel digital subscription service has them all on there. Not all of them in the newest series, but all of the X-Force from the 2008-2010 series. Read the first book and I'm hooked already.

Lock Jaw 03-30-2012 05:36 PM

I have been catching up on my Marvel comics since I was waaay behind. Figured I'd catch up since I can't read DC right now out of anger.

I have not been impressed by X-Force. I can see how people would enjoy it, but it ain't my cup o' tea. I have read up to just before the "Second Coming" storyline.

The best X-Title is definitely X-Factor. You should grab the "Madrox" miniseries, and then start reading X-Factor (v3?). They went to like issue 50 or something and then renumbered it to 200.

Fignuts 03-31-2012 02:14 AM

Pretty much the opposite for me. Like you, I can see how people really like X-Factor, but outside of Batman, I've never been into detective stuff.

Love Black Ops stories and characters tho, so X-force is right up my alley.

dronepool 03-31-2012 05:34 AM

I like Uncanny X-Force more than X-Force (2008). XF 2008 was great, but Uncanny X-Force is much more entertaining.

Amazing Spider-Man has been great since Slott started his run in issue 648, I think.

Hickman's Fantastic Four/Future Foundation is great.

Brubaker's Captain America is usually always really good, especially the pre renumbered 600 arcs.

Reavant 03-31-2012 07:41 PM

The Venom series with Flash as Venom has been very cool

Reavant 03-31-2012 07:41 PM

also the art in the carnage mini series is amazing

Yeah, think I'm going to hit them both up. Doing Uncanny after I finish the 2008 run. Problem is, I have my attention between like 18 series right now. Almost caught up with the newest New Avengers series and then I might even start on Secret Avengers. I like the New Avengers alot actually because it has many of the characters that should be a big deal but aren't so much. Luke Cage is the unofficial leader and nobody in the government ever recognizes him or gives him respect. Also, Spiderman has some of the funniest stuff I've seen from him in awhile. They brought Strange in as well. Liking it.

Fignuts 04-02-2012 03:14 PM

Secret Avengers isn't quite as good as New, imo.

As good as the first x-force series is, uncanny is even better.

Lock Jaw 04-02-2012 03:22 PM

I have just finished reading Seige. Gonna check out The Thanos Imperative now. And Realm of Kings before that, since I never read it.

Fignuts 04-02-2012 03:30 PM

Seige was crap imo. Thanos Imperative was great, but I'm a bit biased in that Thanos is one of my favorite characters.

Funky Fly 04-02-2012 03:43 PM

Siege felt rushed. Like it started, a bunch of people die for seemingly no reason then it was over like that.

Rammsteinmad 04-03-2012 03:24 PM

Ok, the fact he was begging off from a knife is pretty  and loyal to the comics.

Kalyx triaD 04-03-2012 03:35 PM

That clip converted me, they did not market any of that humor. I'm on board.

Rammsteinmad 04-03-2012 03:40 PM

I'm still not really all that excited, but I am excited... y'know?

Kalyx triaD 04-03-2012 03:53 PM

It's not Avengers or Dark Knight Rises 'put me in a coma and wake me up when it opens' kind of exciting but I'm warmer to it now than a few months ago.

Blitz 04-03-2012 07:07 PM

That. That is awesome.

Nark Order 04-04-2012 12:11 PM

New Avengers has been pretty sexy lately with this Norman Osborn/ Dark Avengers arc. I know he already tried Dark Avengers once, but I can't help how fucking cool it is. It's also a little bit different cause he's got spies and such lurking around.

Gonna start FF probably today. Gotta pick up some things at the comic book store and after I finish those, gonna go into the Marvel catalog and have my way with FF. Don't know how more people don't have the Marvel digital subscription. It is pretty fucking boss, to be honest. They haven't configured their app for the subscription service yet, so that's a bit annoying that I can't use my subscription on my phone or tablet, but I'm content on my computer for now. Much easier than trying to pirate everything, it's at an affordable price, and I just feel better about paying for things in general.

Lock Jaw 04-04-2012 01:00 PM

How much is it/where is it/how extensive is it?

Nark Order 04-04-2012 02:06 PM

Marvel.com. I think it is like 8.99 a month or you can pay like $50 bucks for the year and it grants access to every digital comic they have online (Which is like over 10,000 at this point and they add more everyday). I think they may not give you access to comics that have been released in the last 2 or 3 months or something, but I don't mind that. I don't do it for the new stuff, I do it for all of the other series that would be difficult to obtain at this point. Pretty good deal IMO.

Nark Order 04-04-2012 02:07 PM

Also, just picked up AvX #1 and managed to get the variant Wolvy/Cap cover. Pretty pumped.

Funky Fly 04-04-2012 02:42 PM

Does the digital subscription include the non-616 and non-ultimate stuff like Criminal? Marvel and DC have a lot of amazing books that are not related to their main shit. A lot of them aren't even hero/villain shit at all.

Nark Order 04-04-2012 02:56 PM

It's a work in progress and there's a missing series and even gaps in some series but it seems like they're probably going to release alot of the non-superhero stuff. They have some of the Ozma of Oz stuff and Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz stuff. Not seeing Criminal. For the most part, it seems to be the Superhero content, but it at least seems like they're trying to make an effort to include the other stuff.

Fignuts 04-04-2012 03:03 PM

I basically pirate everything, and if there is a book I like, I buy the trades.

Fignuts 04-08-2012 01:07 AM

I have kind of a bone to pick with this X-men vs Avengers story.

SPOILER: show
So Avengers: Children's Crusade recently finished up, and the whole premise of that book was that the x-men wanted to bring The Scarlet Witch to justice for her crimes. This put them at odds with the Avengers, who believe that Wanda should be with them because she is first and foremost an avenger, and they take care of their own.

So now in Avengers vs X-men, the roles are switched, with the catalyst being Hope. This makes both teams look like giant fucking hypocrites. I mean, Children's Crusasde was kind of a big deal. Several characters died, and a few others long thought dead, returned. Avengers vs X-men is obviously a big deal. So how did they not see this huge contradiction when drawing up the story?

Kalyx triaD 04-08-2012 01:08 AM

Sales?

Fignuts 04-08-2012 01:10 AM

There are a million ways they could have put these two teams at odds. Sales doesn't factor into it.

Kalyx triaD 04-08-2012 01:41 AM

Contradictory message aside, it is a likely scenario. Phoenix is a problem (especially with 5 bars), and the only odd thing is that the Avengers didn't take initiative beforehand.

Fignuts 04-08-2012 01:54 AM

Yeah, that's the other thing. Between Rachel and Jean the potential for another phoenix catastrophe has existed for years, and NOW the Avengers are interested.

It's like the WWE creative team wrote this.

Fucking phoenix. Such a tired concept anyway.

Kalyx triaD 04-08-2012 02:13 AM

I miss her. It. Whatever it is.

Fignuts 04-08-2012 02:31 AM

TRUE STORY

Never cared that much for the whole Dark Phoenix Saga.

Can't really explain why. Maybe because I never really cared for Jean Grey, so a really long storyline focused around her just didn't really interest me?

I dunno.

Fignuts 04-08-2012 02:33 AM

I did like the way Grant Morrison wrote Jean Grey, though. She had a strength, and a subtley wicked edge to her, that was different from previous takes on the character. Made her more interesting to me.

Kalyx triaD 04-08-2012 02:38 AM

Endsong was alright.

dronepool 04-08-2012 02:56 AM

Thoughts on this? Lazy writing or something legit?

There is no real hypocritical messages here because the xmen wanting to punish scarlet witch was because of what she did, the avengers trying to bring in hope is because theyre afraid of what she could do all the while she might simply rebirth the entire mutant race.

The reason for them being interested NOW over before is because of the Cable situation in XSanction.

The Destroyer 04-08-2012 01:34 PM

Having just read up on Children's Crusade, sounds like retcon central. Really hate when that happens.

Fignuts 04-08-2012 09:57 PM

The Phoenix has killed billions.

Going after the witch was also as much about what she could do as it was about what she did do.

Both Jean and Wanda were driven mad by an outside force. Both committed atrocities while under the influence of said force.

Fignuts 04-08-2012 10:05 PM

This has actually been a problem at marvel for a while now.

I remember when the current volume of Avengers started. I was excited because I wanted to see how the Thor/Iron Man relationship would play out. After all, last time they met, Thor made it clear that teaming up against the skrulls did not mean they were friends again. And before that, Thor bitch smacked the the red and gold off him.

But no. No tension, no rebuilding, they're just buddies again, as if nothing had ever happened between them.

Like, what the fuck are they smoking over there, that they think this is not noticeable?

Fignuts 04-08-2012 10:10 PM

While I'm on a roll here, let's talk about The Boys. Yeah it's not marvel, but we don't have a third party comics thread, so fuck it. Latest issue came out, and it concludes the main storyline of the book. I assume the last few issues will be epilogue stuff that focuses on where everyone goes from here.

SPOILER: show
So if black noir is stronger than homelander, and they've repeatedly said it would take a nuke to kill the homelander, HOW IN FUCK IS BUTCHER ABLE TO KILL HIM WITH A GOD DAMN MACHINE GUN?

Fuck off Ennis.

The Destroyer 04-09-2012 02:21 PM

I've kind of lost track of The Boys. Should really get back to it.

Lock Jaw 04-09-2012 02:26 PM

Yeah. Kinda stopped after it went to the new publisher. Did not think it was so great anyways. Just Ennis being all "Ennis-y".

The Destroyer 04-09-2012 02:32 PM

Lost track pretty early then, since it went to Dynamite after like 6 issues and it's now up into around the 60s.

Lock Jaw 04-09-2012 03:07 PM

Nah, it went later than that. I remember reading three or four story arcs.

Lock Jaw 04-09-2012 03:10 PM

Ok, nevermind. Checked my extensive files on the matter. Last issue I read was #18. And it did indeed switch publishers after #6.

Fignuts 04-09-2012 09:37 PM

Yeah, it's a decent book. Ennis is indeed very ennis-y here. Very preachy at times. (no pun intended)

Blitz 04-10-2012 06:18 AM

Variety reporting that Bin Kingsley is close to being cast as the villain for Iron Man 3. Dunno who he's playing, but reportedly it's not Mandarin.

The Destroyer 04-10-2012 10:50 AM

That's Sir Ben Kingsley to you.

Fignuts 04-10-2012 11:11 AM

Don't see who it could be besides Mandarin. I guess it could be Titanium Man or Crimson Dynamo, but we just got the "evil russian copies stark tech" story in IM2.

Would love to see Ghost, but it doesn't fit the actor. Or at least his age.

Shadow 04-10-2012 11:57 AM

Already did Dynamo in 2. Hmmm....MODOK? Geeze I don't know.

The Destroyer 04-10-2012 12:04 PM

MODOK's more of a Cap villain anyway.

Lock Jaw 04-10-2012 12:48 PM

It could be "not the Mandarin" but a dude who is pretty much the Mandarin, but not as "racist" or whatever.

We did have the whole "League of the Ten Rings" thing from the first movie still there. They didn't do anything with it in the second movie, but they could indeed do something in this one.

Kalyx triaD 04-10-2012 12:54 PM

Or they could be lying their asses of.

Ben fits for a Manderin look, hard to believe he is not playing him. Not to mention at this point in the series Manderin's time should come - he's too iconic an Iron Man villain. Then again, a new creation for the movie-verse is also likely.

I know this has it's own thread, but I plan on updating these two topics indefinitely as comic movies appear to be more of a stable in the film industry. Eventually I'll simply make a Comic Movie News Thread but I'm a freak about organization.[Ha!] Anyway, Iron Man as finished filming a little while ago which gives them close to a year of post-production. They closed filming in Vegas; though this isn't a hint to the film's story (= the ending may not be set in Vegas). Terrance Howard will play James Rhodes in case some of you didn't know. Rhodes is the civilian identity of War Machine, though you can bet he'll figure in the sequel with a cliff-hanger introduction at the end of this film.[Eh]

Spidey 4:

I suppose Spidey 3's financial success is attributed to Venom's inclusion and they'll add more recent villains as a result. If this is true, and I love the series so far, this will be the beginning of Spider-Man's spiral into the Batman and Robin effect, increasing an aspect of the last film not knowing it worked in a shot-in-the-dark sense. Sam Raimi also expressed ideas of using The Vulture or Electro (more classic villains). I doubt he'll actually have anything to do with Spidey 4.[Yep] JK Simmons, Bryce Howard, and Dylan Baker (Conners/The Lizard) will return with new leads for Peter Parker and Mary Jane, I'm thinking.[Heh]

More to come.

Whiplash was in 2. Yes, it was supposedly a combination of Whiplash and Dynamo, but it was pretty much just a russian whiplash.

Could still do something with the actual Dynamo armor.

Problem is, Iron Man has a shit rogues gallery. Afew Asian stereotypes, a few guys in armor, and a few evil CEO's. That's about it.

That's why I like Ghost. He's one of the more interesting ones.

Anyone else kind of expecting them to port Ultimate Gwen Stacy over into the 616 Universe, so she'll be there in time for the movie?

Fignuts 04-12-2012 06:47 AM

God I hope not. Spider-man has actually been good again, for first time since the early 90's.

Nowhere Man 04-12-2012 07:05 AM

Speaking of, I'm quite intrigued as to how the Ends of the Earth is gonna pan out. Doc Ock has always been one of my favorite villains, and I'm really excited to see what's gonna happen now that he and the Sinister Six have stopped screwing around.

Inadequacy 04-12-2012 07:54 AM

Wasn't there an interaction between ultimate and 616 Reed Richards in marvel zombies? Or a prelude to it?

That whole thing with ultimate ff didn't actually involve 616. It was Zombie Reed pretending to be a normal healthy reed (which looks exactly like the 616 reed) so that ultimate reed would open a portal for the zombies to get more food.
