Seanny One Ball 05-26-2022 11:23 AM

I love dogs.

Watching the new Gervais special.

He rips into women straight away.

Gravy.

Seanny One Ball 05-26-2022 11:25 AM

Dead baby joke, now back to slagging off trannies.

This is good.

This is real good.

Seanny One Ball 05-26-2022 11:29 AM

Now onto saying he’d rather watch Louis CK masturbate than try to watch Nanette.

Gervais just swinging for the fences.

OssMan 05-26-2022 07:25 PM

The Swimmer (1968)

This is the fucking stupidest movie ever... Some guy decides he wants to "swim home" by going in various ppl's backyard pools, except he's like some sex pest trying to rape the women. This thing sucks

Seanny One Ball 05-27-2022 12:34 PM

“Stranger By The Lake” is a pretty phenomenal film about murder, swimming and gay sex.

Not a big fan of the ass munching but the rest was on point.

OssMan 05-27-2022 01:02 PM

Little Children

another good Moralskönflikt from the time period where you could write characters who don't have cell phones...

Seanny One Ball 05-27-2022 01:06 PM

That’s a great film. Jackie Earl Haley should probably have won an Oscar for that.

OssMan 05-27-2022 01:08 PM

Yeah he was really good... didn't have a lot of screen time though...

Destor 05-29-2022 04:11 PM

Blow Out - 8/10

You can definitely see how the Kennedy assassination was living in the minds of people at the time; roughly 10 years later. Travolta is excellent here. DePalmas writing is very strong. it ranks high ion both their bodies of work.

Licorice Pizza - 8/10

Certainly PTA's most grounded piece. Cinematography is very strong. Its almost like Anderson is allergic to close ups and i really love that. he has the camera take a voyeurs position being just far enough away to allow the audience feel like a spectator into private conversations. several long drawn out ones. the themeing is very strong and uses this story of youth to explore the bartering nature of sexual selection. not his best work by any stretch but a very good film and the male lead will likely have a very leggy future.

Los Enchiladas!

This is the movie Mitch Hedberg wrote... spent a lot of time trying to find it before realizing it was just on YouTube. Funny... a couple of his jokes off his cd's are in it but there's a lot more Hedberg-style insight into random stuff... funny... good... kinda like "Waiting" but less happens, but funnier... kinda explores the monotony of working in a restaurant and how you start to perceive the idiosyncracies of different ppl from being around them a lot... chef character was really funny

^this is my post from july 2007. i watched this movie a bunch that summer because it was on IFC a lot. I remember not really "getting it" but still liking it. I watched this movie again a couple weeks ago and realized it doesnt make a lot of sense, even though I "got it" now, and it kinda fucking sucks. I've sworn off the 10 point rating scale but I'll make an exception here to update this score to a 4 out of 10. Theres a bunch of memorable moments and good songs and carrie ann moss is maybe the hottest woman of all time in this movie, but nothing really holds it together

Sepholio 05-31-2022 10:15 PM

Moonfall. I dunno, 4/10 maybe? It's not terrible but it ain't good outside of eye candy. Special effects are amazing which is the point here, but theres too much going on and too many people who just don't seem important enough to there. Plot points that just get abandoned or never explained in the first place. Was clearly set up for a sequel but there is literally negative chance that happens with the way this bombed at the box office after the kind of money they spent on it.

Seanny One Ball 06-01-2022 05:03 AM

It absolutely is terrible, but it’s a great movie to talk over.

I think Roland Emmerich is just showing us his clout now.
To be fair he’s not wrong to do it. Joe Eszterhas did it all through the 90’s without once having to touch the product or create anything remotely watchable. He just wrote outlines and sold them for millions.

There are cinema geniuses, and then there are Hollywood geniuses.
I guarantee Roland Emmerich lets the studio do the actual work. Much like Michael Bay.
Build a name then exploit it.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things

I didn't like this movie but I appreciate that it took some risks, I just didn't like the risks.
SPOILER: show
By rule I dislike any movie that has alternate reality stuff going on where I can't tell what's real and that bothered me about this, as I didn't feel like thinking about it.
This movie made me feel guilty for liking movies which was an interesting risk to take but it just annoyed me. A lot of it was uncomfortable and makes you confront aging and your family and that isn't bad, I just didn't enjoy it. It got too like "bogged down" in itself and started to feel insane

Destor 06-03-2022 06:05 PM

I loved "Im Thinking of Ending Things." liked it better than Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. book is good too. wildly different 3rd act though.

OssMan 06-09-2022 04:13 PM

Freaky Friday

so stupid... the early 2000's Avril Lavigne poser punk "aesthetic" was truly the worst shit ever... plus this movie is racist against asians

Seanny One Ball 06-09-2022 05:21 PM

So it’s the Lohan/Curtis version?

What the hell man, you always go classic…

OssMan 06-10-2022 07:17 PM

I did that with Fever Pitch and paid the fucking price.

Seanny One Ball 06-10-2022 07:25 PM

Hahaha fair play man, fair fucking play.

Lock Jaw 06-11-2022 01:21 AM

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore - 5/10

First 1.5 hours of this just under 2.5 hours long movie is pretty naff and feels like nothing happens..... then it gets alright once the "endgame" is revealed.... was better than the second one I guess where nothing happened the entire movie and was just a "set up sequels/franchise" material...... this one at least had a story that eventually started and ended. "Weird" at the main braud of the franchise being written out to just a cameo... rumours that it is because she "spoke out" against JK Rowling.....

Seanny One Ball 06-11-2022 05:00 AM

Maybe she distanced herself from it, not the other way around.
I bet she still got paid.

OssMan 06-11-2022 08:23 PM

Almost Famous

pretty good

Destor 06-11-2022 11:03 PM

Mean Streets (1973) - 7/10

Destor 06-11-2022 11:04 PM

i had wrote thing but lost it. everyone is a bit green but still a good film. the themes of sin and adolescence come to a fine boil.

OssMan 06-12-2022 09:16 AM

Pieces of April

good, kinda slow. another movie that couldnt really work after like 2003 because cell phones would have made the plot pointless...

OssMan 06-12-2022 03:58 PM

Dan in Real Life

Good... sweet. Didn't know this was the movie that "put it on my tab" line that I always used to say comes from

Destor 06-13-2022 10:51 PM

Her - 9/10

There are atleas 5 levels of analysis just after 1 watch so i wont get into the plot. there's too much to comment on and process. What i will praise is Phoenix's performance. the bulk of this film is him in close up and he carries the film effortlessly. He's definitely a generational talent that probably will never get the credit he deserves no matter how much credit he gets.

Operation Mincemeat - 3/5

Just your standard World War 2 true story.

ClockShot 06-15-2022 07:12 AM

Double World - 2.5/5

Dead Don't Die (2019)

Jim Jarmusch film with Bill Murray and Adam Driver and Chloe Sevigny

8/10

Very fun horror movie. Good cameos. Lots of fan service to people who like horror movies. Doesn't take itself seriously.

Can understand why many mouth breathers didn't like it.

Recommend

Teen Titans Go to the movies.

8.5/10

Was pleasantly surprised this movie was quite enjoyable without knowing much of the source material.

OssMan 06-17-2022 08:54 PM

Les Miserables

I got interested in this because the high school I worked at put it on and it was really good... I mean it's pretty much a masterpiece and the movie does it justice, not really a surprise. Just so much detail in every single moment. The songs are really really good... Didn't know Ali G played the Master of the House guy... funny

Destor 06-17-2022 09:43 PM

the majority was live in camera too. very little ADR

Destor 06-17-2022 09:48 PM

i think its very importantfor a musical to have as little looping as possible. the performance needs to live in the song. if youre gettin a performance om the se and trying to get the audio in the studio to match that youll always lose the soul of it. its really critical.

OssMan 06-19-2022 04:06 PM

Brigsby Bear

lol... really sweet... funny... lotta good Kyle Mooney stuff

Seanny One Ball 06-19-2022 04:09 PM

Watch “Dave Made A Maze” if you haven’t seen that one yet.
