So, I decided I wanted to watch Summerslam '97. I go digging through my VHS cabinet and find the tape, pop it in, and mid-way through Hunter Hearst Helmsley's intro, it's all of a sudden Vince McMahon announcing Brian Pillman's death on the Raw after Bad Blood. I taped over the PPV with Raw.
So... I'm gonna watch a fifteen-year-old Raw instead. DX (not yet called DX, still calling themselves the Kliq) give Michael Cole a wedgie, now they're watching the footage of the Curtain Call on the TitanTron instead of the footage of him beating Undertaker. Vince hasn't turned heel yet, and HBK and HHH are tearing into him about it. Pretty funny stuff knowing what is to come. "Come on, you were an ass LONG before I made one outta ya!" |
Back from break, HBK is still tearing into Vince. Bret's music hits to interrupt him and the Foundation is on the ramp. HBK tells Vince "You're burying me right now!" Guess he was in the doghouse...

Opening match, a lumberjack match between the Godwinns and the Headbangers. DOA, Truth Commission, Sultan, New Blackjacks, Los Boricuas, NOD, Rockabilly, LOD, Real Double J Jesse Jammes, and a few others are the lumberjacks. Ref bump leads to a big brawl, and the Headbangers pick up the win.

And now Paul Bearer's gonna give us some backstory.

Maybe he resurfaces after Ziggy has won the World Title, and begins a feud. And then jobs. |
