Sucks for them. I won't even touch EA's shitty download service. Honestly, I pretty much only buy through Steam.

What about games that have been purchased already, though? Can you not redownload them?

Emperor Smeat 06-15-2011 09:24 PM

If you bought the game and/or DLC before it was taken down then like any other digital distribution service, it is still re-downloadable.

The stuff itself is still on Steam's servers but they can't activate the links for new buyers similar to when a company closes down and Steam no longer is allowed to sell the game for legal reasons.

Any future patches or DLC for the games wouldn't be downloadable using Steam though.

Forgot how sweet installing games were. Quite Xbox, quick loading times. Did MvC3 just now, will do Reach and Battlefield tonight.

Drakul 06-16-2011 08:45 AM

I always install my games before I even play them once. Right now, I have MvC3, Duke Nukem and, I think, Portal 2 on there.

A Spanish retailer website reveals Devil May Cry series from the PS2 is preparing to be joining the recent wave of PS2/PSP games remade as HD Remakes or Collection sets.

The HD set is being done as the 10th year anniversary of the series and will include the first 3 games in the series with only updated graphics being confirmed.

No bonuses or gameplay changes are expected to be done similar to all the other HD remakes and collections with the exception of the Metal Gear Solid set.

Based on the source, the set should arrive this November and as of now only for the PS3 but neither the source no Capcom confirmed if it indeed is an exclusive or if the Xbox 360 will get the set at a later date.

Quick News Round-Up:

1) Bioware becomes the newest gaming company to get hacked as an attack on their serves resulted in around 18,000 accounts info being stolen. The attack occurred on Bioware's community server for their Neverwinter Nights forum.

2) After firing their external Public Relations firm and denying they are not blacklisting reviewers who give bad scores to Duke Nukem Forever, Eurogamer has confirmed 2K Studios indeed is blacklisting companies with themselves being on the list.

3) Microsoft officially releases the Kinect SDK or dev kits for sale to capitalize on the "hacking" stuff being done by people using the non-gaming features of Kinect. The only catch is as of now the kits are not for commercial usage but Microsoft is planning on removing the restriction in the near future.

HD DMC3? Cool.

Funky Fly 06-16-2011 09:39 PM

Def gonna grab that DMC collection when it hits 360.

Sony's gonna have to do some major damage control. Weeks after the hacking and bad news is still coming out. :nono:

Kalyx triaD 06-16-2011 09:42 PM

I don't think 360 will get lucky on this one. DMC1-3 were PS exclusives, it wouldn't be much to HD-up those PS button icons. Making 360 button icons for the re-releases seems unlikely, especially since Capcom's been penny pinching lately. It's a good thought, though.

Emperor Smeat 06-16-2011 09:56 PM

A few of the planned or already released HD remakes/sets have been placed on brands the originals were not done on.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath got only a PS3 release even though it was on the Xbox original before and the Metal Gear Solid set including the Xbox 360 when the originals were PS2 exclusive.

The biggest difference though is those games are expected to have some changes while most of the HD remakes are just quickly made upscale games like the God of War PSP set for PS3 or the Tomb Raider set.

Drakul 06-17-2011 03:02 AM

Speaking of HD collections. The reason MGS1 isn't on the MGS HD collection is because it'll take too much work to bring it to up to the standard of the other games graphically and they'd have to change details to make sense with the rest of the series. So, it's too much work, apparantly.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-17-2011 03:07 AM

People purchase PS1 games on PSN all the time and even 80's arcade games on 360. Konami are just being stubborn, I'm sure barely anyone would complain if the game was there in it's original (or Twin Snakes) form along with the 3 other games.

Kalyx triaD 06-17-2011 03:11 AM

I was thinking they could use Twin Snakes since it still looks good. Then again there's Nintendo references in there, could be a problem.

Drakul 06-17-2011 03:13 AM

I always meant to buy Twin Snakes and I never did. Would have been good to get it on the collections.
Surely removing an object from a games code, to remove the Nntendo stuff, wouldn't be that big a problem time and money wise, right?

Nintendo confirms Zelda will not be getting a collection set to celebrate its 25th anniversary. They are still planning on celebrating the anniversary year long with other stuff but no actual collection set will be made.

Quote:

Yes, as insane as that may sound, while the idea of throwing a bunch of old Zelda games on a Wii disc and selling them to rabid fans seems completely logical, both Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto cock-blocked the proposal.

Why? Because they did it for Mario last year, and didn't want to do the same thing two years in a row. Re-releasing Ocarina of Time for money on the 3DS probably played a part as well.
http://kotaku.com/5812859/nintendo-h...62816#comments

:( I was actually looking more forward to this being done than the Mario one once Nintendo hinted they wanted to do a special set for Zelda's anniversary. That one and Skyward Swords were going to be the main titles I wanted to pick up this Fall.

Emperor Smeat 06-17-2011 07:30 PM

Based on a source very close to Sony, the company is currently working on a new revision for the PS3 but unlike the PS3 Slim, this revision is focused completely on security.

Taking inspiration from the PSN hacking and Microsoft's own new disc format, Sony is in the process of redesigning the disc format for the PS3 using the BD driver and not the motherboard in a similar way to Microsoft's recent disc update beta process.

This would allow Sony to put the security changes on the discs themselves and use a firmware update to make them readable on all PS3s.

Quote:

Presumably this would at least prevent these newer consoles from running copied games with an additional layer of authentication. It’s likely that there will be some kind of watermark on genuine PlayStation 3 discs that the drive is looking for. All of these measures are in response to the acquisition of the PS3 root encryption key earlier this year (2011) by hacker GeoHot which allows unlicensed code to be run on the PlayStation without restriction.
Also leaked for the firmware update will be an update to allow newer PS3 BD drivers the ability to play 3D enabled stuff on discs in one step instead of the previous 3 steps needed. Loss-less audio for 3D will not be returning with the firmware update though.

Sony is expected to unveil the new version of the PS3 along with a potential price cut this year during the Tokyo Game Show.

2) The creator of Minecraft reveals that the studio currently working on the port of the game for the Xbox 360 is 4J Studios. The same studio handled last year's port of the N64 Perfect Dark game to Xbox Live Arcade.

3) EA continues to be douchebags to Valve and Steam with today saying they were happy that Valve had a "change of heart" and returned Alice: Madness Returns back for sale on Steam. EA started their war against Valve yesterday after several current EA related games were pulled from Steam with EA blaming Valve even though older EA games were still on Steam.

Weekend News Edition

Kotaku held a post-Ocarina of Time 3DS development interview with Nintendo regarding the Zelda series with Nintendo revealing why no 25th anniversary set for the series, the idea of Navi being annoying, and other stuff.

Nintendo believes the best way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Zelda series is to celebrate the music of the series with traveling concerts in both the US and Canada. The reason is due to how much of an influence music plays in the series especially since Ocarina of Time.

The idea of Link jumping automatically is due to Miyamoto stressing he doesn't want Link to play any way similar to Mario in a game. He wants Zelda games to be focused on combat/action and already has another series and charcter dedicated to platforming.

Quote:

Why did Link have to go back to being a kid? He just saved Hyrule. Surely he should be allowed to stay grown up.

Mr. Aonuma: Through the guidance of Zelda, Link was able to become a young man without maturing mentally. So Zelda returned Link to his child form once more. I think she wanted him to live a life in which he grew up normally. Also, if Link didn't return to being a child for us, we wouldn't have the story of Majora's Mask, so this is a part of the story that I really want to remain the way it is.

Duke Nukem 3D joins the list of older games getting the HD/remake treatment as a Danish studio named Interceptor Entertainment is currently working with Gearbox on the remake of the original game.

The studio is using the Unreal 3 engine as the basis for the remake and announced the game itself will contain new dialogue lines to go along with the original dialogue spoken in the game.

Online multiplayer was confirmed to support up to 16 people with the majority of maps being classic DN 3D maps and a bunch of characters to available to choose.

Unlike DN Forever, the game will have an early demo released later this summer and is primarily focused on the multiplayer with 4 characters, 7 weapons, and 2 maps.

The game itself will be available later this year and as a downloadable title but no actual release date or systems were announced.

During an interview with GamePro, Yoshinori Ono says one of his plans for the future of the Street Fighter franchise is to make a game that is completely customizable beyond just a create-a-character found in other fighters.

Quote:

"What I'd love to do someday, if possible, is taking these characters -- like Ryu, Chun-Li, Abel, and Juri -- and having a game where users could customize them to a high degree," Ono said. "I'm not talking about their costumes or something like that, but actually customizing what moves they use -- the timing of them, their strengths, their weaknesses -- so that my Ryu could be completely different from your Ryu. In addition to our skill sets being different, our characters themselves would be different."
The customization would be based on certain rules or requirements but would give the player complete freedom in designing anything within the requirements.

His idea could have been inspired by the cancelled Mega Man Universe project that attempted to have a creatable characters and environments. Even though the project focused on Mega Man stuff, it did show off characters and stuff involving other Capcom properties.

Conflicting reports and rumors are showing Square-Enix is in the process of porting Dragon Quest X to the Wii U after the company sent out a vague hint of them adding "support" of the game to the Wii U.

This support was revealed to be company's current priority of making sure the game works on the Wii U with hints of some sort of special support to take advantage of the Wii U controller.

The issue occurs due to the vagueness of the testing making it appear as if the testing is treating the game as 2 separate games and not just a Wii game running on Wii U similar to what Nintendo did with Twilight Princess.

They still stressed that the Wii will still get Dragon Quest X on schedule around early to mid-2012 in Japan after originally revealing the game was pushed out of the late 2011 release date.

Other reports and rumors have the game arriving during the launch window of the Wii U and a future 3DS version in development.

The next game in the Smash Bros series might take much longer than expected as Project Sora said in an interview that the studio was completely caught off-guard when Nintendo announced a new game in the series at E3.

According to the original plans by both Nintendo and the studio, the next game in the series was meant to be only on the 3DS but the sudden announcement at E3 of a Wii U version caused a lot of the early planning and initial development to be scrapped.

Quote:

"With this I don't have the time for that. I won't be able to look at every aspect of the game and balance out all the characters by myself this time. I'm trying to think about how this is going to work out, but probably I'll have to discuss it with my future development team. The future of this project really depends on the people I can get involved with it."

Sakurai also said that the original plan was to get a team together to work only work on a Smash Bros 3DS game after Kid Icarus was completed but this plan changed, after Iwata had shown him the Wii U.

"If we went solely for the Wii U, the HD graphics would really bump up the visual effects, but then we'd be stuck in another arms race. If we made this [Wii U] game another extension over previous [3DS] one, we'd have to cut out the new things we could possibly do on the 3DS hardware and compete with ourselves again over the size of the character roster and the amount of gameplay... It wouldn't be a fruitful competition."
Currently the studio has no plans to work on the game any time soon due to their current priority to Kid Icarus on the 3DS and a couple other projects. The studio itself also isn't large enough to work on 2 top tier titles at the same time and would need more help due to the problem of having to create separate assets for both games.

Nintendo is rumored to be involving another studio they own to help Project Sora once development actually starts.

Also discovered from the files were Square-Enix attempt on tweaking the game to run on current PCs with graphical and gameplay enhancements but for unknown reasons ended up dropping work on the project.

2) Epic Games could be reconsidering supporting the PS3 after Bulletstorm barely managed to 1/4of the Xbox 360's version while the game combined barely reached 1 million sold. This would make the 2nd big title from Epic Games to "fail" or bust on the PS3 in comparison to the Xbox 360 and PC.

3) Based on some leaks, Sony is planning to continue the current tradition of re-releasing games as sets with the Uncharted series, Resistance series, and Ratchet & Clank bundles are all planned for a 2011 release date. After about 8 years of service, Star Wars Galaxies is set to officially go offline on December 15 after Sony Online Entertainment, Bioware, and LucasArts confirmed the end of the MMO game.

The servers are going to be gradually freed up for the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO game with the last set of servers to go completely offline in December.

As part of making sure nothing goes wrong during the process, the ability to auto subscribe to the game will be shut off on October 15 while the trading card game will be discontinued and unable to activate on September 15.

Sony Online Entertainment does have a final "thank you" gift set up for later this year involving a massive final quest being hyped up as a “galaxy-ending in-game event."

While the game wasn't as popular as other big name MMOs like World of Warcraft, declining revenues and sales with the need to release a brand new game in the Star Wars series ended up being the main factors in the decision to shut down the MMO.

Justice Antonin Scalia, who was writing for five justices in the majority, stated: “Like the protected books, plays and movies that preceded them, video games communicate ideas — and even social messages — through many familiar literary devices (such as characters, dialogue, plot and music) and through features distinctive to the medium (such as the player’s interaction with the virtual world).wrote. That suffices to confer First Amendment protection.”

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund had joined the case by filing an amicus curiae brief that called attention to the similarities of the California video game law and attempts to censor comic books in the 1950s (see “CBLDF Joins Video Game Case”). The California law would have imposed fines of $1000 on stores that sold violent video games to anyone under 18. It defined violent video games very broadly as any game “in which the range of options available to a player includes killing, maiming, dismembering, or sexually assaulting the image of a human being” in a way that was “patently offensive,” or appealed to a minor’s deviant or morbid interest or could be construed as lacking “serious literary, artistic, or scientific value” (see “Oral Arguments on Video Games”).

According to the New York Times, Scalia cited Grimm’s Fairy Tales in his decision, noting the folktales are “grim indeed” and recounting the plots of Snow White, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel, while pointing out that High School reading lists and Saturday morning cartoons are also filled with examples of violent behavior.

But the 7-2 decision is not as rock solid as it might appear. Two justices, Samuel A. Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts declined to sign on to the majority opinion, although they did vote with the majority. In a separate opinion Alito noted that the California law was too vague, but that a more carefully crafted piece of legislation could pass Constitutional scrutiny. Alito based his argument on his conclusion that video games are very different from other media and therefore are not necessarily entitled to the same Constitutional protections.

Justice Clarence Thomas voted in the minority because he does not feel that the Constitution provides any free speech rights to minors. The other dissenter, Justice Stephen Breyer found sufficient grounds in studies of the effects of playing violent video games on the behavior of children and adolescents to justify the California law.

After seeing the success both in terms of sales and reception to the remake of GoldenEye on the Wii, Activision could potentially be thinking of having another "remake" or game made in the series.

New domain names registered to Activision recently show the company locked in the rights to the name of "GoldenEye Reloaded" which could hint at the company thinking of continuing that line of games from the James Bond series.

Rumors are ranging anywhere from the domain name being linked to a future Wii U game, a HD re-release of the Wii's GoldenEye game to the Wii U, or even the N64 classic being ported to unknown download services.

The game or series is unlikely to appear on a non-Nintendo system unless if the potentially new game ends up similar to EA's unrelated GoldenEye game due to Nintendo both being unwilling to share the game's IP with Microsoft or Sony and them owning most of the first choice rights to the series.

2) Sony is expanding the idea of games from the PSP library to the PS3 by now including games not part of a series or set as new bundles. These bundles will be called Dual Packs and contain 2 games unrelated to each other at the cost of $15 per set.

3) Microsoft reveals both the list and dates for this year's "Summer of Arcade" on the Xbox 360. This year's special deal involves buying all 5 games and getting Crimson Alliance for free when its released on September 7.

The only two I'm intrested in is From Dust and Fruit Ninja Kinect.

From Dust looks like the game I've been waiting for since Populous on the PS1 back in 1998 and Fruit Ninja looks like good, simple fun.

"It's hard to be completely honest without offending people; but I know, when I read in the middle of a review that said the quality just wasn't good enough, I actually agree with those reviews. I think Lionhead can't afford to rest on its laurels of its fans and produce low-quality stuff."

"We have lots of excuses, as you always do have excuses; but I don't think that's good enough. For consumers, it's very simple: there's a bright light here, and there's an even brighter light there. They're going to go towards the even brighter light -- and why shouldn't they? You just can't sit on your hands and say, 'Well, we know how to do it. It's Fable, so that's the way we do it.' You just can't do that."

Great work as always Peter. All Fable games suck after they've been out for a year, but the next one will ROCK YOUR WORLD.

The fallout from the PSN hacking attack now has some official results with roughly 90% of PSN users have returned back to PSN, Sony posting its worst financial loss in 16 years, and the calling for the current CEO to step down.

While 90% of PSN users have returned, Sony did not state if the stat meant 90% of the accounts have been reactivated or if 90% of the actual user base returned. Sony has about 70+ million PSN accounts but only 50+ million actual users.

The financial mess of the hacking attack along with the recent earthquake and poor showing from other divisions in the company resulted in the 3rd year in a row the entire company generating a loss. The losses also ended up being the worst losses for the company as a whole in the last 16 years, even topping the $3+ billion lost in 2006/2007.

The push to remove Howard Stringer as CEO of Sony revolves mostly around the slow response to both the shareholders and customers which in turn negatively hurt the company's stock and image. Sony's stock has dropped roughly 30% since the incident with shareholders giving Stringer a vote of "no confidence."

Stringer's job has been in jeopardy the past few years with former Playstation boss, Kaz Hirai seen as the favorite to replace him. Even though Hirai tenure with the Playstation division usually results in big annual losses, the company still feels his presence and dealing with the media would be much better than Stringer.

Stringer recently blamed the PSN hacking attack due to hackers not wanting Sony to be allowed to ""Protect its IP" instead of the actual reasons being the removal of features and the arrogance of the company to both hackers, users, and customers.

Quick News Round-Up:

1) Pac-Man's creator Toru Iwatani stated in an interview that he feels the games of today do not have that same special feeling of games in the past that remain special decades after they were released.

Quote:

"When you look at games coming out today, it's doubtful that any of us will be talking about them in ten years' time," Iwatani told Game Career Guide.
...
"I think more thought needs to go toward how games present themselves to the user, to how they can be made more fun," Iwatani said.
2) The newest game in the Tribes series called Tribes Ascend will be a free-to-play game with only load-outs and weapons being part of the paid section of the game.

3) Valve's attempt to "relaunch" Team Fortress 2 with the free to play scheme appears to be working out very well as the game officially replaces Counter Strike as the most played game on Steam in terms of total players, servers, and players per day (peak).

Oh shut the fuck up. Not you, but whoever wrote this article. I mean, come on. Yes, it's Sony's fault all this happened because they removed features. Wait, didn't they remove Linux because it was getting hacked? Hmmmm. I'd call that protecting its IP. I'm sorry, I just hate how some people try to justify the hackers' actions.

Based on an internal memo sent around EA Sports studios, EA is looking to open up a new studio for their EA Sports line while also showing some concern about the losses of key members from the Madden franchise.

EA is planning on opening a new studio in Austin, Texas but are still looking for a good spot that would be both convenient and large enough to develop their games. This new studio's main task would involve the recently planned idea of "persistent" experiences to EA Sports games in regard to both online-related and career mode related stuff.

Also revealed in the memo is the need to focus on a new outlook for the Madden series due to the loss of a few key contributors to the series. The goal is to make a stronger push to keep the remaining staff members critical to the series while offering a lot more promotions to newer people.

The idea behind this move is to both ensure no more critical people leave to competing companies and bring in new perspectives for their Madden series and potentially the other sports series in the EA Sports line.

Quick News Round-Up:

1) Once Xbox 360 exclusive title Limbo will be heading to PSN in the near future based on a leak involving a South Korean ratings board showing the title as part of the upcoming games for the PS3.

2) As a follow-up to yesterday's Sony story, Sony is now one step closer to replacing Stringer as CEO after Hirai was promoted today to Chairman of Sony. The move comes just a day after shareholders made a strong push to replace Stringer due to a 30% drop in stocks and negative image the company gained in recent weeks.

3) Blizzard reveals they are currently working on a new MMO game called Titan that according to them will be "ambitious, awesome, and casual" in comparison to their work on WoW and the upcoming Diablo III game. The game is expected to arrive within the next 1-2 years but not until the current the expansion packs for WoW and work on Diablo III are done.

Only days after the Supreme Court struck down the California case involving the idea of violent games needing censorship or being seen as free speech, the US Senate is currently debating and could potentially pass a new bill that will make video game streaming illegal.

The bill focuses more on people streaming game footage than actually streaming or uploading files to pirate a game and its vagueness treats video game streaming the same as streaming a movie that is shown in theaters.

Also considered illegal would be uploading your own playthroughs and walkthroughs for a game similar to a Lets Play or streaming playing games for charity.

Quote:

The US Senate has put forth a new bill ( S. 978 ), which if passed could potentially label people who stream video game content (or other copy righted material) onto Youtube or other sites like Blip or Justin.tv as criminals.

Under the "Anti-Streaming" bill, those who are caught streaming copyrighted material (films, music, games etc) in a "performance" that becomes popular and makes over $2,500 can either face some rather hefty fines or even up to five years in prison!

What constitutes as a "performance?" Well, Let's Plays and Live Streams would likely fall into that category. I say likely because the wording of the bill is incredibly vague and could probably mean just about anything, which is why many in the video reviews community are scared that their content could also potentially lead to criminal charges.
The move is part of a larger push to make streaming of copyrighted material illegal with earlier in the year the FBI going after and shutting down numerous tv and movie streaming websites.

Quick News Round-Up:

1) Ubisoft will be pulling TMNT: Turtles in Time Remake completely from PSN and at a later date from XBLA after the company revealed their license for the PSN version of the game ends after June 30 with the XBLA version expiring at a later unannounced date. To squeeze any last chance sales, Ubisoft has the game 50% off on the XBLA Marketplace.

2) Capcom announces Dead Rising 2: Off the Record now has a release date of October 11 in the US/Canada and October 14 for Europe. The game is still set for a $40 price tag.

3) Nintendo of America kills off any hopes of Xenoblade, Last Story, and Pandroa's Tower coming to the US after refusing to publish the game in America. The news comes days after Operation Rainfall began its drive of convincing NoA to bring the Japan-only game to the US by the use of petitions and requests.

In a somewhat surprising announcement, Media Molecule announced during a gaming convention in Spain that it is planning on ending the LittleBigPlanet series once the Vita version of the game is completed.

The official response is the studio wants to break away from the series to create some new IPs but didn't explain if the reason was due to them getting "bored" making the games or didn't want to expand the physics and gameplay with future games in the series.

This also continues the tradition of Media Molecule only working on a series for a specific console and not wanting to expand the series to a new console (or handheld) besides a port.

The announcement also appears to have been done without Sony knowing beforehand and could leave Sony with needing to find a new studio to work on the series if they decide on more games in the future for the series.

Microsoft along with law enforcement have started to investigate how an early non-beta playable copy of Gears of War 3 surfaced on the Internet, specifically Youtube, after it was found that the videos were showing off unapproved gameplay footage of the single player.

Microsoft also confirmed that the footage is indeed legit although they did state "This content is not from a final build" and didn't not explicitly say how recent the stolen build of the game was.

The stuff was also confirmed to have been possibly taken from a development kit instead of the traditional way of leaks occurring after discs are printed.

The leak is assumed to have come from inside Epic Games studio with either an actual programmer for the game or one of the on-site beta testers providing the leaked content.

Rockstar preparing to drop both financial and working support with Team Bondi after recent news revealed the company was furious with how badly Team Bondi mismanaged the company's money involving the L.A. Noire project.

Rockstar has already refused to both publish and finance the next project currently in development by Team Bondi with the final break-up expected to occur pretty soon.

The biggest reason for Rockstar's decision was due to the increasing "fighting" and resentment between Rockstar and Team Bondi's founder. The main issues ended up being Team Bondi refusal to make any changes Rockstar felt were needed and the studio's habit of firing and hiring too many people multiple times during development.

Quote:

"Rockstar also made a huge contribution to the development. Their producers were increasingly influential over the last two years of the game's development, and overruled many of the insane decisions made by Team Bondi management. At a lower level, Rockstar also pitched in with programmers, animators, artists, QA, etc. Part of the conflict between Team Bondi and Rockstar was due to Rockstar's frustration with Team Bondi's direction, and eventually Team Bondi's management in turn resented Rockstar for taking lots of creative control. It's also worth pointing out that Rockstar used to be very keen on making Team Bondi something like 'Rockstar Sydney' – the more they worked with Team Bondi management, the more they came to understand that this was a terrible idea."
The decision to pull their support from the studio also comes after recent news of Rockstar being completely blamed for the poor working conditions and the large list of contributing names missing from the credits list of L.A. Noire.

Sony confirms it will have its own Pass-system similar to other companies and will be called PSN Pass.

Sony also mentioned that unlike other Pass-systems, each PSN Pass is game-specific and not a general online-only restriction. No actual details on what would be restricted for non-online multiplayer games was given by the company.

So far only PS3 games were announced to be getting the PSN Pass with a very big chance PS Vita will also be getting the same service at a later date.

No pricing or other details regarding PSN Pass was revealed although the company did mention it will start once Resistance 3 is released. Non-PSN Pass countries will be locked out of content until Sony updates or brings the Pass to those areas.

Namco Bandi is suing Projekt Red's parent company Optimus SA over an issue regarding publishing rights for the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher II in Europe.

While the US could still have the Xbox 360 version released on time, the European version of the game might be delayed for a while.

The issue revolves around Namco not being informed of THQ being awarded of publishing rights in Europe for the Xbox 360 version when Namco and Bandi currently hold the PC and Xbox 360 rights of the game.

According to Namco, they were never informed that THQ was bidding and won rights to the game which prevented Namco or Atari from bidding. Namco also assumed their rights to the PC version and Atari's US rights would have carried over to Europe.

Namco also owns the European branch of Atari while allowing the US branch to be a separate publisher instead of Namco publishing both the PC and Xbox 360 in the US.

Quote:

Naturally, Optimus and CD Projekt Red believe both are in the clear.

"Namco's claims are unfounded," reads the statement.

As a consequence of the lawsuit, Namco Bandai is withholding payments of 1,225,000 Euros (roughly $1.75 million dollars).

"In the opinion of the [Optimus] management board, Namco consequently claim the desire to continue cooperation in the distribution [of] CDP RED products after the recent release of games released on PC, due to the expected potential sales of this title for console Xbox 360," concluded the company. (Also, I blame Google Translate for the awkward phrasing.)

Both the Soul Calibur publisher and THQ have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Games collector ‘Ahans76’ has turned an innocent pastime into something bordering a dangerous obsession.

If his games collection (pictured below) looks to be a little on the large side that’s because it features every single PlayStation 2 game ever released in North America. Oh, and they’re all unplayed first editions in factory-sealed condition too.

It all began innocently enough when Ahans76's mum bought a PlayStation 2 console from a catalogue. 'Ridge Racer 5' was his first game for the system and, yes, it still holds a special place in his heart and his gargantuan library. Well, it’s in there somewhere, we're assured.

http://a323.yahoofs.com/ymg/ukvideog...XI0SFDjdcKbxDW

The rest is 19 years of history, a collection that exceeds 1850 PS2 games and an investment that's likely to be somewhere in the region of £40,000. Some games have been harder to find than others too. Ahans76’s lengthy search for a sealed copy of ‘Moto GP’ only ended when an innocent eBay trader in the UK let it go for a fiver - a fraction of the amount he was prepared to pay. The majority of the rest of his games were bought at the regular retail price or thereabouts, though.

With all the effort and cash dedicated to fulfilling his quest it’s surprising to learn that Ahans76 has the time or energy left to actually play any of the games he owns. Nevertheless, he lists ‘Final Fantasy XI’, ‘Dragon Quest 8’ and the ‘Uncharted’ series for PS3 as his absolute favourites.

Ahans76's journey won’t end once he has every single PlayStation 2 game - a few new ones are still released every year. He’s currently trying to complete the Neo Geo and PlayStation Portable catalogues. Perhaps it’s a blessing that he seems to have overlooked the Wii, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS. So far, that is...

#BROKEN Hasney 07-08-2011 03:26 PM

Guy I knew had every single European released Mega Drive game, but not all sealed. I thought that was bad enough.
