Other than the young bucks theyve got a good core roster. Its a shame theyre attached at the hip to those guys, theyre really horrendous.

Fignuts 05-27-2019 06:34 PM

They've gotten better since their shift to heavyweight in NJPW.

DoN was more reminiscent of their all out high spot days, but in that spot, against those opponents, it worked. Hoping that going forward we see stuff more like their feud with Sanada and Evil, as that was really fun.

all you gotta do is change 1919 to 2019 and root beer to wrestling

Fignuts 05-29-2019 12:52 AM

Luchasaurus officially signed.

Also, Moxley vs Janella at Fyter Fest

Janella sucks, but he's entertaining enough in hardcore matches, which given his oppopnent, I'm sure this will be.

Emperor Smeat 05-29-2019 01:23 AM

Janela's not that terrible but yeah his specialty is hardcore and deathmatch style wrestling so your not going to really get traditional 4+ star matches out of him nor would you expect him to do so.

Also based on his GCW specialty shows, the guy has amazing scouting skills considering the obscure people he's plucked from the indies and made into stars.

Triple A 05-29-2019 01:30 AM

Big Joey Janela fan over here...

Luchasaurus looks like he's in good shape. I'd like to see the gimmick altered in time, but I think he's a good get.

Janela is awful. Really fucking bad. Moxley should brutalize him. I hope there isn't that compulsion to give him lots.

Fignuts 05-29-2019 02:37 AM

He looked cooler as Vibora in LU

Was thinking more of modified Richter Belmont when I first saw that gear mostly because of the colors.

Mr. Nerfect 05-29-2019 02:59 AM

Not an ugly dude and he did well in Big Brother, which means he must have some sort of appeal to idiots. He looks like Seth Rollins. I mean, I can see where that could be a problem and I think having a mask is fine. I just think "Luchasaurus" is a bit silly. I think there's a proper gimmick you can do there.

Looking forward to people being enraged over freedom of speech being violated despite the gentleman being banned not having any rights infringed upon. WWE has kicked people out for having anti Roman Reigns signs.

slik 05-29-2019 01:23 PM

I like that this will make noted internet wanna be reporter "rovert" look like an idiot for tweeting the other day about how the Young Bucks clearly hate diversity/etc/blah blah blah bc they are Christians.

RP 05-29-2019 01:26 PM

slik 05-29-2019 01:27 PM

So who got the ban? The nerd asking the transphobic to leave or the transphobic?

the phobic

Damian Rey 2.0 05-29-2019 01:48 PM

I figured. What a fucking dope he is for posting that shit on Twitter. Idiot. If that's your take, tho I don't agree, then whatever. Share it with your buddies. Not Twitter, you nincompoop.

Looking at his profile he seems to be a living troll...sounds like he almost got arrested at Starrcast for causing a scene...also, one of his followers/pals is a dude who was wearing a Benoit Club shirt all weekend.

According to Forbes, high end estimates for Double or Nothing's PPV buys is around 200,000 based on Google trends. Doesn't mean the real numbers will be as high or close to it but Forbes did state it does show that there was WWE-like level of interest for this show.

Obviously, that is not to suggest Double or Nothing did 200,000 buys—which would be an astronomical company even for a historic show with a five-month build—but it is a promising indicator of strong interest in the pay-per-view ...

To compare, the event drew similar interest to WWE's Money in the Bank pay-per-view on May 19, which also amassed over 200,000 searches on Google trends.

Triple A 05-30-2019 09:37 PM

200k Google searches, not PPV buys...

slik 05-30-2019 11:50 PM

I love that they are doing this

https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCirc...nothing_being/

Damian Rey 2.0 05-31-2019 12:39 AM

That is actually really awesome.

Mr. Nerfect 05-31-2019 01:43 AM

Yeah, stuff like that is really cool. They brought it up on the pre-show, but they don't hammer it into people like they are great humans for doing it either. WWE would do a three video packages throughout the night about how awesome Stephanie is for doing this sort of stuff.

slik 05-31-2019 11:15 AM

Meltzer reporting Double or Nothing did 98k buys, making it (easily) the most successful non WCW or WWE ppv buyrate ever.

Mr. Nerfect 05-31-2019 02:19 PM

I love Big Dave, but that’s a bit skewered. It’s been about the only “big scale” wrestling on PPV since TNA, if you consider that. Meltzer reported that 40,000 for Ortiz vs. Liddell was “ice cold.” Bellator would hover around 100,000 and was not considered PPV success. 98k is good with qualifiers.

#1-norm-fan 05-31-2019 05:49 PM

The very first official show of a new wrestling company is a pretty fucking important qualifier though. It’s not like he’s reaching.

Damian Rey 2.0 05-31-2019 06:01 PM

98k buys for a promotion using ppv to debut their productwithout zero tv to build up to it, zero matches to my knowledge, and solely internet hype and vignettes, that's a huge fucking number.

Well, he is seemingly conflated a lot of the data. The 98k is apparently a worldwide number, which means that it must be amalgamated information from across OTT media too, since I know that DoN didn't air on PPV over here, yet Meltz is crediting Australia as being one of the biggest international markets. It was $20 on the FITE app.

So 98k seems to be the number across traditional PPV and streaming services worldwide. Two thirds of that would still put them ahead of TNA's best domestic buy-rate, but that is a worldwide number for AEW across many platforms with quite a few stakeholders.

I'd like to think that the number will get a lot bigger with TNT exposure, but I don't think the internet and being the first AEW show are necessarily points holding back the buys. I mean, being new may have coerced more people into feeling obligated to support it, or help them feel like they're getting in at that ground-level.

I mean, I'm still hopeful they completely blow people's expectations out of the water with television ratings. I'm one of those knobs that doesn't see a reason they can't beat WWE on cable. I don't know why anyone who puts them through three hours of Raw would not give two hours of AEW a go. I just think that this "PPV number" is a little bit...tricky.

It's a fine start though. I'm not trying to call it a failure or anything, lol.

Evil Vito 05-31-2019 09:09 PM

When it comes to Meltzer, everything related to AEW is gonna be conflated given how tight he is with the Bucks.

Mr. Nerfect 05-31-2019 10:42 PM

I know he's tight with them and he probably desperately wants this to succeed, like we all do, but I don't necessarily think that's going to be the case. I mean, what he's not saying is not untrue -- I can unpack what he means from it -- he's just worded it as nicely as possible and in the best possible way to put the babyfaces over.

Well, that's what I think, anyway.
