Govt getting involved will bite us in the ass, mark my words with a red pen.

It should have been handled within the hobby.

Today's News:
1) Update to recent EA loot box lawsuit news as the Belgium Gaming Commission recently made their intentions clear that should EA manage to find a way to win the court case, they will fix their gambling laws to close any loophole EA used and take the company back to court again if they still refuse to comply.

2) Nintendo announced their new paid online service for the Switch will arrive on September 18th and includes a free 7-day trial.

3) In what could be the saddest non-memorial related Easter Egg, a recent Easter Egg discovered in Spider-Man for the PS4 was revealed to have originally been meant to be a surprise marriage proposal. Instead the couple broke up before the game's release and for added insult, the person involved in the request was told how dumb his idea was by his former finance.

4) For those interested, Ubisoft announced Assassin Creed Odyssey's Season Pass will include remastered versions of Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed Liberation.

Some new details regarding Nintendo's upcoming paid online service for the Switch includes:
* One online check per week is needed in order to play NES games offline.
* Similar to the PS4 & Playstation Plus, need to have an active subscription in order to maintain access to your cloud saves.
* Family Plan bundle for subscriptions is not be limited to just a single Switch device.
* The special NES joycons shown in last night's Direct will not be available for purchase to the general public and instead are an exclusive offer to those with subscriptions.

It's not just access. If you stop paying for online, your cloud saves are permanently deleted.

Fignuts 09-15-2018 04:15 AM

lol that's so fucked.

Destor 09-15-2018 10:21 AM

Thats not accurate its just something thats going around. The fine print reads:

"unable to guarantee that cloud save data will be retained after an extended period of time from when your membership is ended."

So there will be a buffer period just like on ps+. Ps+ is 120 days

Some of their games were great. Others, not so much.

I wonder if they're gonna put everything up for sale as one whole package. Or part it out like when THQ folded.

Probably a mix of both. Their bigger games can fetch a decent sum on their own and then toss in the rest as a package deal based on the level of interest for them.

Supposedly they never made a good profit on any of their episodic games besides Walking Dead Season 1 and one other game. Their licensed games bombed a lot more for revenues.

The closure of TT was foreseen by a few youtubers almost 2yrs before the fact.

IKR? It's like, finish TWD: The Final Season and then if you shut down you wouldn't have as many people up in arms because you're leaving quite probably your best-selling game series on an abrupt cliffhanger with only a few episodes to go.

Maybe their parents will give them the money to keep the doors open long enough to finish

According to a report from US Gamer, doesn't seem to be the case.

Parent company is only keeping the studio afloat to finish their current contract commitments with Netflix's new Minecraft series.

Official cancellation for Walking Dead's Final Season is currently rumored to be happening next week.

If they can't get it done in video game form, speculation around the net is them doing it in comics form with the creators of the Walking Dead comics series.

Tom Guycott 09-25-2018 12:44 AM

Hopefully they do get to finish that and it doesn't just go the way of Swordquest.

Stranger Things seemed like a property tailor made for Telltale.

Lastly, and more disappointly for me, their shuttering means no more Poker Night. A third installment could have been awesome if they continued to keep the humor tight and the crossover participants eclectic. Could totally see Rick Sanchez at a table either as a participant or replacing Reginald and GLaDOS as dealer. Ah, what could have been...

Not good news for the 90% of Telltale's staff suddenly laid off with no severance. I wanted to get around to it at first, but I may just hold off or even not play it ever until or unless they take care of that first.
