You know what I'd really like, is a show that sympathizes with why imperials are so feircely loyal to this blatantly evil organization. Like, it wouldn't sympathize with the empire itself but rather with the history of these people and what traumatic events pushed them to beleive that totaltarian authoritism was the best option. We've never really gotten anything that dives deep into that, probably because in the original trilogy, none of the imperials had any redeeming qualities. But more recent stuff is painting them as more human than cartoon villain, so it would be cool to get a better look at their motivations.

Lock Jaw 11-06-2022 11:48 AM

And then at the end of the series they get blown up in the Death Star

Lock Jaw 11-06-2022 12:16 PM

But do it in a way that you don't even know they are on the Death Star until suddenly everything blows up and it just cuts to Han Solo going "Great shot kid! That was one in a million!"

Arent we sorta getting that with Andor?

Fignuts 11-06-2022 07:35 PM

Well, we get a much better look into the lives of these imperial officers but not what got them there, or why they support the empire so strongly.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-09-2022 08:28 AM

Man… Stellan Skaarsgard.

ron the dial 11-10-2022 12:10 AM

andy serkis too. damn.

Lock Jaw 11-10-2022 01:09 AM

Fantastic episode. Agree with the above two posts.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-10-2022 09:02 AM

I’ve said it many times but Star Wars with great dialogue is blowing my mind.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-10-2022 09:02 AM

Well… and I guess great monologues would be more accurate for this ep

ron the dial 11-10-2022 09:05 AM

the mon motha/davo/tay meeting was sharply written. they are not fucking around with this series in any aspect.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-10-2022 09:14 AM

I want to be arrange married to Jenivieve O’Reilly’s iteration of Mon Motha. Original one was more like Mom Mothma or even grandmom Mothma

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-16-2022 09:02 AM

30 men. Plus Kregyr.

Lock Jaw 11-16-2022 07:26 PM

Very real possibility that Cassian and Melchi were the only two who got off the planet....

ron the dial 11-16-2022 11:10 PM

i'm a sucker for a symmetrical shot and this show is full if them. the one of the imperial captain or whatever after luthen escaped was great.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-17-2022 06:35 AM

I wish they never even showed the holo-projected shot of Kregyr so that he could've been the Maris Crane (or Vera Peterson) of Andor.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-17-2022 08:44 AM

Also, compared to Mandalorian (because honestly, the other shows aren't really in this conversation), I really love the dimension they've given the baddies. Diedre is an awful human--yet, I find myself rooting for her (not to beat Cassian or anything, but there are --strangely--things about her I find admirable).

I think of Moff Gideon from the Mandalorian, and he's such a black and white baddy. I appreciate him and like what he brings to the show, but he's just a straight heel. Yet--Diedre is probably worse than him in some ways as a person. The same could possibly be said about Cyril, who you also can't help but sort of root for.

Realistically, Cyril and Diedre are no more militant and ruthless than Saw or Luthen.

Gilroy thrives in creating these complex characters, whereas Filoni and Favreau are just like "here are the good guys, and here are the bad guys."

My whole commentary probably goes back to what Fig was talking about with a show that follows the Empire. But it's a success of the show. And just because the characters are more rounded doesn't always make for a better show. Sometimes that can get gimmicky. But Gilroy has struck the perfect balance.

Lock Jaw 11-17-2022 05:33 PM

Still rooting for Dedra to "let her hair down" and "become sexy"

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-18-2022 03:44 PM

Saw her in an interview with her hair down. She was with Cyril, who didn’t even look like the same person.

Lock Jaw 11-18-2022 06:20 PM

Didn't even know the other dude's character name until now.... always just referred to him as "Space Cereal Mom Guy"

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-18-2022 06:22 PM

I mean it's just as accurate of a descriptor.

Lock Jaw 11-18-2022 06:25 PM

What If

He catches Cassian Andor, but then Andor escapes via tempting him with some Space Cereal, ala how superheroes used to defeat bad guys with Hostess Fruit Pies in advertisements

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-18-2022 06:31 PM

I'd say Diedre's love and imperially-meted justice are more important to him than space cereal.

Destor 11-20-2022 08:09 PM

Just found some dvd copies of the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy. Very hyped.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-23-2022 09:34 AM

That was quite the finale. Goodness.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-23-2022 05:08 PM

Also I definitely like Andor’s first season better than Mando.

Lock Jaw 11-23-2022 09:45 PM

Syril gonna get some

Lock Jaw 11-23-2022 09:48 PM

Great finale... hate that I have to wait a year to see where it goes from here.... I heard there's gonna be a time jump next season... wonder if they continue off this cliffhanger or if they just tell it via flashbacks later....

Wonder what Cassian's "plan" is....

SPOILER: show
Kill me or take me in.... take him in as in to the empire or take him in as in a partner in rebellion?

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-23-2022 09:53 PM

lol very clearly he meant the latter, you wild animal (re: spoilers)

Now that I actually know his name it is quite funny how it rhymes with cereal

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-25-2022 07:31 AM

How is it just lock jaw and me to have watched this damned finale.

ron the dial 11-25-2022 08:23 AM

i watched it but the holiday/being out of town hasn't given me an opportunity to properly share my thoughts. i will eventually. it was fantastic as expected.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-25-2022 08:38 AM

Fignuts 11-25-2022 08:51 AM

I watched it, but I don't really have anything to add on the praise I've already given the show. It is in fact the most well written star wars media of everything, including the movies.

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-25-2022 08:57 AM

Lol well I mean we sit here and prattle on when something is shit. Why not be just as consistent with the praise when it’s earned? It’s some exciting, inspiring stuff.

Lock Jaw 11-25-2022 09:26 AM

I still want that dude who was Cassian's boss in Rogue One to show up next season.... forget his name.....

Ol Dirty Dastard 11-25-2022 10:21 AM

He seems like a lesser Luthen.

Also, props to Mon Mothma for gaslighting the fuck out of her husband in the name of covering her tracks.

Seanny One Ball 11-26-2022 05:47 PM

4 episodes into Andor.
It’s good but it’s not Mando good. Not sure it’s even Obi Wan good. It has too many ugly English people in it, even for Star Wars…

Seanny One Ball 11-26-2022 05:48 PM

There have been a few bits that were great but I am hoping it goes a bit tits towards the end. It’s certainly warming up in the middle.
