This is a case of a movie being creepy but it was kind of a corny creepy if that makes any sense. The last 20 minutes or so were good though even if the ending wasn't painfully obvious.

Because I haven't for a while:

Extract - 7/10 - Nice little Mike Judge film that I hadn't heard of until the good old illegal download showed up. Affleck is good and Bateman is Bateman. Did however feel like bumping the film up to 8/10 strictly for the 'OMFG HOW HOT IS MILA KUNIS' factor

Avatar - 9/10 - Spectacular. Bit of a more 'adventurous' story and it could have had 10.

Law Abiding Citizen - 4/10 - Meh. Can't decide what it wants to be. If they'd have gone with a straight up OTT popcorn flick, I'd have rated it higher but it tried to be more and failed. Gerard Butler is good good. Would have given it 5/10 if it wasn't for that 'It's gonna be biblical' line.

The Insider - 9/10 - Crowe and Pacino owning the screen. Nuff said.

Funny People - 7.5/10 - Really liked this. I know people complained it was too long but I didn't 'feel' that. Wasn't as predictable as I thought it would be.

Not really been watching much film lately, still on a Sopranos start-to-finish binge.

El Fangel 01-08-2010 09:32 PM

Terminator: Salvation: 7/10

Loose Cannon 01-08-2010 10:25 PM

Land of the Lost: 7/10

It was a lot better then I thought it was going to be. It had some ROFL moments like when they are all high. I dunno, the "being high" spots in movies never get old with me. I didn't expect much from this movie, so I was happy at the end.

Night at the Museum 2: 5/10

It had its moments and was pretty much what I expected. The Superbad kid was pretty funny in it. I wish he had more scenes.

A Perfect Getaway: 9/10

Loved the writing and direction of this film. I didn't think it would turn out as good as it did. I know some of you will be like 'I knew the "twist" in the first 30 minutes. Well if you pay attention to certain things, it's easy to see what's coming. It's almost like the writer's wanted to give it away. Everything is cleverly written to set the reveal up. Steve Zahn is the man.

The New Guy 2/10

El Fangel 01-08-2010 11:40 PM

Harry Potter 6: 2/10 - At this rate, Deathly Hallows MIGHT get a 1/10 frome me.

PorkSoda 01-09-2010 01:30 AM

Hot Shots! - 2/10. Yeah, seriously. It was funny for about 20 minutes, then it just got old.

Meet The Parents - 10/10.

Death Proof - Hmmm.....10/10 I guess. Tarintino and his slow buildups to big action scenes, then another slow pause in between the action scenes.....I guess I like it. This movie really could have only been about 45 minutes long though....

Seven Pounds - 7/10
Kinda put it all together well before the end, which took away from the pay-off at the end.

Burn After Reading - 7/10
Reminded me of Guy Ritchie's stuff (Snatch/Lock, Stock...).

Sherlock Holmes - 8/10
More "Sherlock, stock and Two Smoking Barrels" than I expected but really enjoyable.

The Day The Earth Stood Still - 5/10 - nothing special, got bored at various points.

Where The Wild Things Are - 7/10 - good, I read the books and saw the cartoon adaptation as a kid, loved the story, but I felt the film focused on more negative aspects of childhood wonder coming to an end, rather than the good points.

Sorority Row - 4/10 - Dunno why I watched it, let alone downloaded it. Crazy sexy ass girls in it, but nothing at all original or appealing.

Eating Out - 3/10

Drakul 01-14-2010 02:25 AM

St Trinians 2 1/10 I didn't like it at all but one short scene towards the end that didn't involve "The girls" was almost close to bareable.

Avatar (in 3D) 10/10 I really enjoyed the film. I know everyone seems to say that but they are right this time. I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

mitch_h 01-14-2010 02:55 AM

Moon - Loved it, thought it was going to be kinda more philosophical/non-linear, but it surprisingly had a very concise and clear story. As the story progressed I thought it might run off the rails, but it remained original and intelligent. I guess it borrowed a couple things from 2001/Solaris but it also had kind of a Twilight Zone feel to it. 8/10

El Fangel 01-14-2010 10:19 AM

Yeah, call me an idiot for never having watched these before.

Whip It - 8/10

El Fangel 01-14-2010 03:15 PM

If your a twilight fan, you are too much of a pansy bitch to have your avatar, I demand you remove yours.

Champion of Europa 01-14-2010 03:17 PM

The Book of Eli - 7.5 out of 10. It was a really well shot, neo-western. I'm a sucker for that kind of thing. Denzel Washington continues to be a stoic bad ass.

The Lovely Bones - 4 out of 10. There were some moments of goodness, but for the most part this was awful. It feels like Peter Jackson just adapted what he could and forgot to say anything about the material. He would kill his momentum mid sequence by cutting away to something ridiculous. It made everything drag on forever.

NoRoolz 01-14-2010 08:35 PM

Backtracking a little:

Avatar - 9.5/10. I don't need to explain why.

Law Abiding Citizen - 7.5/10. Good, not great. Some crazy bits, some pointless/over the top bits.

Taken - 9/10. Only just got round to watching it, Neeson is fucking quality. Really good film.

Also, not a movie but I've been watching David Attenbrough's Trials of Life series from 1990 and it is fantastic. Love Attenbrough's voice too.

Hard Candy - 6/10

Good acting & very gripping. It lost points for plausibility. Not going to spoil the film but for those who have seen it some of the parts are not feasible for a girl her size to accomplish which took me out of it from time to time.

Schlomey 01-15-2010 01:00 AM

Minus the overly dramatic dialog and the twinkling vamps I totally dug Twilight.

D Mac 01-15-2010 01:50 AM

Yeah the twinkling in the sunlight was pretty gay.

the squid and the whale 9/10

thedamndest 01-15-2010 01:22 PM

Zombieland 9/10 - Really surprised at how good this was.

Star Trek 8/10 - Overall very good, especially the sets/special effects/cinematography. I have seen only a few episodes and a couple of the original movies. They did a good job of making this feel like a movie that anybody could walk in and see not really knowing anything about the Star Trek universe.

I will say this: I was extremely bothered by the use of Sabotage when young Kirk is driving around on Earth. As you are aware, the Beastie Boys have a line in Intergalactic that makes reference to the Vulcun nerve grip (a pinch in the neck from Mr. Spock). How would the Beastie Boys know about Spock before the Vulcans made contact?

In a Zombie movie you wonder why the main character doesn't know he needs to shoot the zombie in the head. Didn't he see Dawn of the Dead? No. The Romero films don't exist in that character's universe. But in this Trek universe the Beastie Boys clearly do, and there is no reason to suppose they have released their entire catalog except Intergalactic or altered that line in any way. An embarrassing oversight, to be sure.

The Jayman 01-15-2010 02:04 PM

The Grudge 3 7/10
Wasn't as good as the 1st or 2nd but it was a little more violent. The ending was kinda fucked up

XCaliber 01-15-2010 02:19 PM

Terminator Salvation 7/10 - Not as bad as a lot of peeps made it out to be it was better than Rise of The Machines and had a lot to live up since I previously saw the following.

Avatar 9.5/10 - I absolutely adored this film but I just can't give it a 10 since the story itself is all too familiar but with that said I look forward with high anticipation for the sequel.

Droford 01-16-2010 01:08 AM

Terminator 4 - 8/10 it was much better than I thought it would be.

GI Joe - 2/10 and this was much much worse than I thought it would be. Even the CGI was awful. How the crap is that possible these days with big budgets and all?

I'm glad you're willing to look the other way while a band whose existence contradictory to the entire movie is used in the soundtrack of Star Trek (2009). I'm pleased for you.

thedamndest 01-18-2010 01:07 PM

Adventureland - 5/10

No reason for this to have been set in 1987. Hated the main girl. I probably would have turned this off if Martin Starr weren't in the film.

Jon Kano 01-19-2010 03:43 PM

Fantastic Mr. Fox - 8/10

Really liked this film, esp loved the beach boys songs being included.

PorkSoda 01-20-2010 09:30 PM

Blade - 2/10.

Kind of being generous with the 2 rating. .5 for the action scenes, .5 for the martial arts, .5 for the cast, especially Wesley Snipes, and .5 for the line "Mothafuckas always trying to skate uphill." Other than that, typical comic book movie for me....and this one also sucked.

CSL 01-20-2010 09:52 PM

So Pluto Nash is better than Blade?

CSL 01-20-2010 09:53 PM

Must...stop...abusing...PorkSoda

PorkSoda 01-21-2010 01:32 AM

Not exactly. In some ways I enjoyed Pluto Nash, and in a couple ways, I enjoyed Blade. Besides the cool looking gore at times, Blade just bored the crap out of me. Pluto Nash kind of did the same thing, although there was no gore in that movie.

You want a 5 paragraph in-depth review of both movies or something?

Sixx 01-21-2010 01:43 AM

Pretty good, but I was pissed off he let that Booker T motherfucker get away with it.

Oh, and this actor. Second role I see him in, and the second in which he's a chronic masturbator living with his mom and working in a booth.

I loved the look and feel of the movie. The only thing I didn't really like is how it kind of turned into a slasher at the end (although I liked how it was done).

Droford 01-23-2010 09:47 PM

Funny People - 5/10 I really didnt have a problem with it being almost 2 1/2 hours (extended) but I kinda felt like it could have been a lot better than it was. It felt like there was a good idea for a movie and it got squandered or soemthing.

PorkSoda 01-23-2010 10:50 PM

Daybreakers - 4/10.

Way better than Blade. When vampires die, apparently they explode or turn into ash. Blade overdid it, Daybreakers did not. Daybreakers was great though.

Kalyx triaD 01-23-2010 11:06 PM

Blade, the movie based on a comic book, overdid something? Lord forbid this fallacy.

PorkSoda 01-23-2010 11:10 PM

No, the Blade based on the childrens picture book overdid something. The comic book movie was just fine.

No, I'm joking. Yeah, it overdid the vampire deaths. It was unoriginal. Cool to look at the first time, but we don't need to see it 10 times. Rewatch it.

Kalyx triaD 01-23-2010 11:13 PM

I remember Blade's vampire kills. Ash in part 1, flames in 2 and 3. Didn't seem like a big deal as the movie tries to invoke a certain style. Doesn't give or take from my view, but 'why not?'. I think vampire movies that have them die normally are under-executing.

But whatever, they sparkle now.
