Lol it's amazing that I'm currently getting paid right now to post

More people owned One Warrior Nation t-shirts than want to keep Bryan from the main event. What is so hard to understand about capitalizing on something that's hot? Gertner has said it a million times. They're a fucking business. And they'd have to be brain dead fucking idiots not to get as much out of this guy as possible. I could understand you making this arguement way back during the Team Hell No phase of his career, but now? the fuck are you thinking? |
How is making the man the star of the show capitalizing on it? He's doesn't have mass appeal. The whole "Yes movement" doesn't get stronger if they try to make him the face of the company. He's over regardless and they're not gonna stop watching as long as he's somewhere on the card being relevant. At that point it comes down to who do you want to promote and build as the headlining attraction to draw people in. He's just not very good outside of his in-ring skills. Neither was Benoit. But he was great in his role as long as he wasn't presented as THE guy.
If it were up to the majority of the Bryan marks. John Cena would have been jobbing for most of his career by now. There's a reason that hasn't happened. Cena is a guy you use as your main star. Bryan is not. |
Not to mention that smile he constantly has on his face is annoying and heelishly creepy.
|
Whoever said he was going to be THE guy?
That's Cena, and it will still be Cena even if Bryan wins the title. Comparing Bryan to Benoit is absurd. Benoit was never this hot. Saying he's over regardless so don't bother is a ridiculous argument. You could say that about anyone who's ever been over. If people are clamoring this hard for a guy to be on top, then you push him to sell tickets. |
And that's the problem with giving him the title. It should be reserved for THE guy or someone who has potential to be THE guy. That's how you make the title a meaningful draw instead of a useless prop.
And the Benoit comparison works. It doesn't matter that Benoit was AS over as Bryan is at this very moment. I'm comparing them talent-wise. The whole "Yes movement" thing isn't gonna last forever. Once that's gone, you've got a little guy who looks like you signed off a Bum Fights video representing your company as it's champion. That works for ROH, a company that wants to appeal to wrestling nerds and never actually grow and become a bigger deal. Not WWE. |
Then there'd only just be like 2 guys who ever win the title.
So what what if it doesn't last forever? Get what you can out of it now while he's drawing big. |
WWE needs to try and reach new demographics, and Daniel Bryan reaches a demo that WWE has never catered to before - hipsters, vegans, environmentalists, etc.
|
WWE will always have guys who cater to the "pop culture loving flavor of the month supporting douchebags" demographic.
|
Half way through I guessed who was going to be the bad guy. They did do a good job at throwing a fake trail though. Still better than Ready to Rumble.

And again, they aren't gonna get any more out of it. The merchandise and shit is all based on him NOT winning the title in fact. "Getting what you can out of it" = Making him your champion is such a narrow, simplistic way to look at it. He'll win the title at WrestleMania and he pretty much has to. It's not because Bryan as champion is gonna be a huge cash cow and milk more out of the "Yes movement" or anything though. It's because they've booked themselves into a spot where he's gotten screwed out of it most of the year and the two guys who were in the main event spot, one's a heel and the other didn't get nearly the adoration they were expecting when he returned and they had to turn him heel too. And the only other available face to put in the match to fix the situation so smarks didn't shit all over a Batista-Orton main event walked out of the company. |
...or they could potentially re-create the heat and buzz of Austin vs McMahon as he finally wins the title only to get screwed out of it in a few months and we begin the chase cycle again and rinse and repeat until the next new babyface is ready.
|
We already saw how the PPV numbers for Bryan chasing the title were the first time. Kinda lends to my point that the people who will pay to see Bryan fight for the title are wrestling nerds who already pay to see him period. Outside of that his appeal is incredibly limited. WWE does not need to be more like ROH. Basically, Batista is right.

- 2014 WWE Hall of Famer Carlos Colon told El Nuevo Dia in Puerto Rico that he was shocked when he got the call to be inducted this year. Colon said he didn't think he would ever go in after he wasn't inducted in New York City last year. Colon said: "Imagine, it is the realization of a dream. To get there, it is the ultimate. As in other sports, like baseball and basketball, reaching the Hall of Fame is the biggest thing and it is finally happening for me." |

But ya- put it in NSFW tags. |
Yeah, outside of the casual forum, nudity isn't allowed, and anything "scantily clad" needs to be in NSFW tags.
Is that the current rule? |

Based solely on 5 gifs, that Scooby Doo film looks 100x more entertaining than WWE

Yo, #1 fan, tell me what you think of Bryan's Ascension in a purely storyline sense, like it was a movie or tv show or something? Don't wanna hear anything about ratings, buyrates, mercy sales, etc.

Should have done a Hair vs Hair match at Mania!!

I wonder if Tyson Kidd will notice....

That Bella looks stoned.
|
Yes. But I never found myself concerned with the ratings Breaking Bad was getting, or the box office for Avengers or whether Joffrey was ready to "go over" Ned.
|
I'm in agreement though. I like what I like, regardless of how well rated it is.
However, part of the story is that it is all interactive and that the ratings can sometimes come into play in the story. I can imagine a Heyman promo talking about all the fans the WWE lost whenever Bryan main-evented, all the money they wasted on him and etc. etc. Would be great to see Bryan snap on the Yes-lock until Lesnar came out. |

Basically it's "I find this to be a shitty idea. The fact that it doesn't help them business-wise shows that." Actually there is a part of me that does care about ratings. I mean... I want WWE to grow as a respectable company (I know, lol) and not strive to be more like ROH. |

From a storyline purpose I've said that at this point, they've lead it to where to even try having Batista be the man going into WrestleMania to fight for the title alone was ridiculous and they HAVE to have Bryan win it now.
The story is fine. The endgame with the WWE champion being a homeless looking guy who is mediocre at best on the mic, not so much. |
Just turned on the network, BEAVER CLEAVAGE!

Saw something about Cesaro getting entered into the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. My money's on it ending with him Cesaro Swinging Andre's ghost.

I was thinking about the idea of Lesnar "going rouge" and legit beating The Undertaker in the biggest asshole move in the world. He can take the streak and leave if he feels like it.

Just finished watching this, but if any UK posters are interested in watching a documentary about ICW on the iPlayer, then here's a link.

Waaaaaiiiiiiiittttt. Bryan drew a better rating than Cena AND Hogan!? Someone check on #1 fan!
|
... It was a good, unique fucking segment featuring a one of the only real angles they have going on right now at the peak hour for the show. If you really wanna get high and mighty on Bryan's behalf about ratings, I can bring up plenty more segments/PPVs featuring Bryan that tanked horribly. It's silly to even try to go there yet. Stick with "high workrate" for now.
|
Yay nxt is on..
|
TNA actually put together a fine PPV last weekend. They deserve my split attention between Impact and NXT. At least during this opening divas match. MVP > divas rasslin'.

Bryan (on the subject of Goldust's entrance) "I liked it as a kid cause Marlena had these huge fake cans" and then they show the Bellas |
Upon further inspection of that Lita gif (you know, after getting past the obvious awe of hot chick without pants)... she had some fucking ripped abs! She prob'ly just got done washing those pants on her stomach before putting them on!

So it seems like the WWE are heavily pushing NXT as a third brand (of sorts). They are covering the results on the main page of WWE.com and the history section now features championships that are defended in NXT.
|
Thanks for the warning not to go to WWE.com until I watch this week's NXT
|
I don't remember the last time I actually had a reason to visit wwe.com.
