Regal leaving really doesn't surprise me at all. He's incredibly tight with Triple H and he's getting his old job back or likely something relatively close to it. And he'll get to work with his son again.
He's been on record many times as saying WWE effectively saved his life with all the operations and shit they paid for. Don't really see an issue here. |
I think it’s more about the rumours that people weren’t listening to him, not so much that he’s leaving to his “home.”
|
I don't doubt that there's a maturity problem within AEW but I suspect Regal just said it to EC3 once in passing as part of another conversation "oh yeah, there's a bit of a maturity problem there" and EC3 took it to the sheets as the main reason he's leaving.
EC3 commenting on maturity issues at all is hilarious given he started an edgelord federation that immediately flopped. |
Ec3 trying to control regals narrative

This is not entirely true. There are several of us, myself included, who spent multiple hours before TV working with Regal and learning from him. Should there have been more? Maybe, but he and Danielson always had a solid audience around the ring before TV.
— Brian Pillman Jr. (@FlyinBrianJr) December 5, 2022

I know you said “some”, I just didn’t want the narrative to be that he was just standing there preaching to the air. Some days there would be 10 guys out there soaking it in, some days it would just be me and wheeler and Lee. I didn’t mind when his attention wasn’t spread as thin
— Brian Pillman Jr. (@FlyinBrianJr) December 5, 2022
Pillman kind of telling the whole story here. Young lesser-known guys would give Regal his due. The other guys weren't interested. In fairness, they think they're main eventers and don't need the help. But it def wouldn't hurt for them to trust guys like Regal and Danielson when it comes to advice that I think they need. |
Wait, this is all based on info from EC3? Lol
He could just be bitter because his friends found someone else to control their narrative while he’s left controlling his own. A sad situation. Won’t someone take pity and adopt that man’s narrative. |
I'd be more inclined to extrapolate from what Pillman Junior said. Keep in mind--he said what he said in DEFENCE of AEW lol

Plenty of people in the indies think they have nothing to learn, and that's unfortunate. Even if you are a competent hand and a good worker for the indy audience, you lose nothing by at least listening to a guy like Regal. Even if you ultimately don't take his advice, shit, at least listen. |
I hope it was more than just the same 10 people soaking up lessons every week. That’s like .00001% of the roster.

Those upper-ish card douchebags who think their cutting edge “art” is not to be tainted by some old farts probably have more pull with a lot of young wrestlers today, sadly. The Bucks giving lessons on how overrated selling is would probably draw a bigger crowd.
|
Man, I felt really close to saying “These kids today…”
|
|
There’s a balance of course. I’d understand if it’s an old head like Tony Atlas who’s just some carny (and I’m a fan) telling them some bullshit old head advice. But Regal and Danielson are guys with legit respect and insights. Surely, even upper card talent have something to learn from them. Even Shawn Michaels looked up to and learned from Bret Hart before they fell out.
|
They have and have had folks like Tully, Arn, Billy Gunn, and other serious veterans who have made money in this business (and Jarrett, too). But there are folks who wear not listening to advice as some badge of honor. And they have Tony's ear.
|
What is it with these older wrestlers getting all bent out of shape when younger wrestlers don't want to hear their advice? It shot Punk into an absolute rage that guys who did it their own way didn't feel like they needed advice from a bitter failure at everything he ever did other than pro wrestling, which he quit for 7 years.
Now we are supposed to believe William Regal would be upset people who either did not want to go to NXT, or who were turned down by NXT, would not want his advice? That would be like Fan pretending he is not in boiling tatters over me every time I post with his "new tactic" of not replying where everybody can see what a shattered fool he is, but then still giving himself away by shitting up my rep wall, even though he knows I have him blocked and would only see his obsessive wall rep comments when I feel like having a good laugh. https://i.imgflip.com/738ji2.jpg Seriously, who are those comments for? You know you are blocked, are you arguing with yourself to pretend you are owning me? You are so weird, oh and in a constant state of... Shambles!:rofl::rofl::rofl: |

When AEW started part of the appeal was that it was only 2 hours a week and 4 ppvs a year.
Now it has like 13 titles and a roster of 352 people and way more hours of programming. TK has no idea what he's doing. |
AEW is also spectacularly bad at following up on people when they get red hot.
So many go from being red hot to just sort of there, either from booking or not being booked on Dynamite - Hook, Wardlow, Dante Martin, Hobbs etc |
Dalton Castle seemed like a really interesting person and wrestler but has he been on Dynamite again since his one match, nope
You have to follow up on people |

I'm down for that (I'm sure I've agreed with you on this already), prefer my weekly rasslin shows to be an hour long
|
i miss NXTUK and hope NXT europe follows a similar format. it was a pretty perfect hour long weekly show.
|
Nostalgic for 1 hour NXT (US flavour).
|
I don't mind a 2 hour show if it's really good throughout. But even when Dynamite was really good each week it's tough to not have a lull at some point across 2 hours, even if it's a brief one.
Rampage, when AEW actually gave a shit about it, was a really enjoyable watch. 1 hour shows done well are sublime. |
HHH making RAW really boring each while also getting rid of the cringey 'vince comedy' bits is actually a huge plus for WWE because I can have RAW on in the background and only have to pay attention to like 30 min of it a week

Guy’s a great performer though. They can definitely do something with him. I remember him having a campy gimmick where he was a sailor or something. Try that out. |

Yessss. Straight early/mid 90’s WWE shit.
|
i miss chikara
|
my fondest chikara memory was sitting right next to a kid that tommaso ciampa made cry big time, and the next show standing next to the kid's parents in line as we reminisced and laughed about their child bawling the show before. absolutely ruined wrestling for that kid lol.
|
They should bring him in to join Bray Wyatt’s stable. After Bray’s shrimp boat captain father “mysteriously” disappeared, he took over the business, made millions off of it and now sails the world on his yacht, occasionally handling business matters for Bray, whom he is indebted to for *wink* reasons.
|
Regal went from being in a place where talent were paid to learn to a place where wrestlers are paid not to.
|
AEW sources have called bullshit on William Regal allegedly feeling talent won’t take on board advice. “It’s not that we don’t listen to advice, it’s that we don’t hear it in the first place. Totally different thing.”
|
Lol so funny

Hook and Wardlow are the two really big misses to me and in different ways. |
Still really enjoying AEW but they really do seem to have a "I won the title, now what" issue. Again often a larger industry issue but AEW do seem quite bad at it.
I would love to see titles reigns get a bit more chaotic. I understand there trying to create a lineage but lets have Penta win the World title out of the blue, He can lose it 3 weeks later after 2 banger defences. lets have the TV title change hands 3 out of 5 weeks then build someone holding it in a hot division where anyone can win. |
TK is really bad at booking champions and former champions. He’s also really bad at booking people he wants to build to championships.
|
I think there are a couple of belt marks in the company. I don’t think it’s a coincidence Adam Page gets salty when he finds out he is dropping the AEW Title to Punk and the bullying of Thunder Rosa intensified when she becomes champion.
|
Tony Khan on William Regal’s release: “It’s been a tough year on me. You’re not allowed to be mad at me. Yeah, he’s gone. My mother had two strokes.”
