Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome-6/10

Huge tonal and structural shift from the previous films. The beginning plays out fine. Max gets robbed of his pack of camels and supplies, stumbling into barter town, a civilization built to barter and trade goods and ran by auntie, played by Tina Turner. After realizing Tina is the bad guy, Max gets exiled and finds himself among a group of children waiting for a savior to take them to their utopia.

The film very much plays like more of an adventure film, with more whimsical gags, far less violence and slower pacing. Didn't notice but found out it as pg13. It was obvious looking back.

The movie itself is good. If it wasn't a Mad Max movie with 2 excellent predecessors, I would've liked it more. But for what was the final film in the original series it was a let down outside of the final and only case chase of the film.

Seanny One Ball 09-29-2020 01:54 PM

The way they speak in Thunderdome is terrible.
Educate your children folks.

Damian Rey 2.0 09-29-2020 02:20 PM

Lmao I mean I kinda get it. I just didn't care for the tonal shift. It was jarring. Thank god they pivoted back to what works in Fury Road.

Vivarium 7/10

El Vaquero de Infierno 10-01-2020 05:47 PM

I enjoyed the film (and my love, Imogen), but I wasn't wowed by it.

Fignuts 10-01-2020 06:20 PM

Yeah, Fury Road is as good of a return to form as there’s ever been for a film series.

Mad Max: Fury Road from the director of Mad Max 1-3 and Happy Feet

Wish I had waited till after I watched Thunderdome to re watch Fury Road. Would've had a greater appreciation for the masterpiece that it is.

August: Osage County 7.5/10

The patriarch of the Weston family disappears and turns up dead; the family come together and at the funeral dinner and the subsequent days after secrets are revealed and terrible truths told. A solid family drama.

Cam - 5.5/10

Seanny One Ball 10-02-2020 05:16 PM

You did that just to spite me

Seanny One Ball 10-03-2020 12:24 PM

Palm Springs - 3/4

It didn't achieve brilliance but it came damned close.

I loved this movie. What a fun little psychotic romp. Not taken out of the movie at all by the fact that it was clearly filmed in the same mansion they filmed Billy Madison.

GD 10-03-2020 03:52 PM

Remember watching that movie on a long flight. A lot of fun.

Dave, how far is the airport from the village you're staying in?

Let's see...I have to first seek permission from the village council so that they can sacrifice their first borns in order to collect funds for my flight ticket. Then begins the two day long strenuous trek through the Corbett national park and the Himachal valley. We find sustenance in berries, goat milk, and vindaloo curry which is native to the region. Once the aroma of human feces becomes prominent, that's when you've arrived in the mean "streets" of Bombay. We've been told that roads are coming in 2025. Traffic is a concern as cows often block travelers and aggressive monkeys tend to steal belongings. Once we reach the airport, we present the funds at the counter, and if the representative is not satisfied, we offer one of our village girls for arranged marriage. As you can see the whole process is quite complex and a logistical nightmare. I'd say a good 3-4 days. Unless they're shooting a Bollywood movie, because you're suppose to stop what you're doing and break into coordinated dance sequences as per tradition.

I thought it was pretty good too.
Lots of gore but a nice counter balance of dark comedy and slapstick.

I thought Ready or Not was a really fun, gory time.

The co-directors of this are directing Scream 5, which am I looking forward to.

El Vaquero de Infierno 10-04-2020 05:52 PM

I gave it a 6/10; there was no ounce of tension and the comedic elements felt forced throughout.

Black Widow 10-07-2020 03:34 AM

The Babysitter Killer Queen.

Was alright but 1st was more enjoyable

Spanking The Monkey - 5.5/10

Seanny One Ball 10-07-2020 01:40 PM

Is that the David O Russell film where Jeremy Davies boinks his mom?
I convinced a local lunatic to watch that once. He was furious.

The new Sandler Halloween movie.. surprisingly enjoyable

Seanny One Ball 10-09-2020 02:59 PM

Sandler has a new movie?! That's getting watched tonight!

Seanny One Ball 10-09-2020 03:00 PM

Dale Newsread tried to diss Sandler on his FB and the backlash was surprising.

rez 10-09-2020 06:45 PM

Yeah, it has some past Sandler movie character cameos that weren't expected. It also has the gal from Happy Gilmore (the mum in Modern Family).

Seanny One Ball 10-09-2020 06:53 PM

Julie Bowen

El Vaquero de Infierno 10-10-2020 04:11 AM

Late 90s/early 00s Julie Bowen was so ridiculously hot.

rez 10-10-2020 07:35 AM

Correct

Seanny One Ball 10-10-2020 07:55 AM

I think she was at her peak hotness when Modern Family first started.
That episode where she ends up in a hot tub...

He'll yeah, not going to ruin the surprise for anyone but you get a big big cameo right off the bat.

rez 10-10-2020 07:58 AM

you're a good man

Seanny One Ball 10-10-2020 08:53 AM

Adam Sandler is great.
Adam Sandler makes money.

Lock Jaw 10-10-2020 10:52 AM

Didn't know Julie Bowen existed before Modern Family.... haven't seen Happy Gilmore since I was a young lad

Seanny One Ball 10-10-2020 05:11 PM

You forgot to mention your attraction level towards her at the time

Lock Jaw 10-10-2020 05:15 PM

Don't know because I have zero memory of her in Happy Gilmore.

Lock Jaw 10-10-2020 06:05 PM

I feel like she was p hot in Modern Family, but became less hot as the seasons went on

Blonde Moment 10-10-2020 10:54 PM
