Gambling should legal with no restrictions as long as the gambling party is the owner of the items they risk. Its your property; manage it poorly if you see fit.

However a state classifying it as gambling is perfectly reasonable since it clearly is exactly that.

Except real gambling has element of loss where you get nothing for your trouble. Videogame lootboxes technically give you 'something', with only our definition of value classifying loot content as 'reward' or 'loss'.

So we're clear, I hate lootboxes. People who buy them are baffling. They completely annihilated reward systems in games.

But they are barely gambling (I can only go as far as to agree it's gambling-ish), they aren't criminal, and we can't call them predatory without a good hard look at the community of gamers or gamer parents. I rather not validate the old violent games debate by acting like lootboxes are anything more than super annoying rewards systems that threaten gameplay balance.

I'm 20 hours in over the 2 days it's been out it's that good. If you can cope with Skyrim level jank and your PC can handle it, go for it because it is addictive as fuuuuck.

I doubt I'm anywhere near finishing the main quest since I keep fucking around with side quests. I said PC because the save system and lockpicking are so shit they need modding.

Fignuts 02-14-2018 07:24 PM

Well I doubt my laptop could handle it, so its probably xbox or ps4 for me.

#BROKEN Hasney 02-15-2018 05:00 AM

It'll probably still be a fun game, but just know you can only save with a very limited item (with some main quest and sleeping autosaving). It doesn't evens ave on exit.

Lockpicking is the worst lockpicking minigame of all time, but if you're not a criminal, that won't matter.

If i make a $10 slot machine that garuntees at least a .01¢ return its still gambling. And that is exactly what loot boxes do.

Still it should be legal.

2) Similar with the classic NES Mega Man Legacy set, Mega Man X Legacy Collection is currently rumored to be broken up into two sets based on a recent Australian ratings board report.

Fignuts 02-15-2018 07:03 PM

Give me MMX 1-5 in the first set. I don't need to play the others ever again.

Ultra Mantis 02-15-2018 07:14 PM

Coming to the X series once is was already over, I didn't find X6 as terrible as I expected to. Really liked X8 actually.

X7 though. Oh boy.

#BROKEN Hasney 02-15-2018 07:17 PM

That's not unlike the Mega Man Legacy collection. There were two sets there as well.

Emperor Smeat 02-15-2018 07:34 PM

My mistake and fixed some of the wording.

Was originally trying to compare how the original set was announced and released. It didn't get a sequel until a couple years later to cover the rest of the non-NES games. I also have the bad habit of forgetting the SNES had non-X series Mega Man games.

The X collection seems to be Capcom splitting it into 2 from the start and releasing both at the same time.

ClockShot 02-26-2018 06:41 PM

I'd figure Rhode Island would say away from anything video games after the Curt Schilling/38 Studios debacle.

Emperor Smeat 02-26-2018 07:00 PM

Schilling (and a few others) being a dumbass with this debacle ended up killing a really good idea the state had to lure more game developers to the state. They wanted to become a new hub for game developers and tech companies within a few years.

On paper, the idea was to give Schilling whatever he wanted to help make the game become as successful as possible so they can use it as a launching pad to lure more game developers to the state. Think this game alone ate around 60-75% of the state budget for tech projects.

Instead Schilling's studio fibbed on how much money was actually needed and everyone else involved had no backup plan in case things didn't go smoothly with the studio itself or game sales. Not only did Schilling screw the state's plans, he also screwed a lot of other companies who couldn't apply for tech grants because of how much his project ate into the budget.

Forgot how the settlement went down but think I technically own a share of the game's IP via being a resident of the state and the state owning the IP now.

Uhg Trumps video game/movie rhetoric is so tiring. Trying to put the blame on entertainment.....when everywhere else in the world has access to this same content and they don't go shooting up schools/malls/clubs/etc. Probably because they don't have guns -_-'

#BROKEN Hasney 03-02-2018 06:37 AM

Y'know, I was about to give Trump the benefit of the doubt and look up what he actually said, because if he suggested that there should be an independent ratings body instead of one run by the video game publishers, or maybe that there should be a rating system involving ages like we have in Europe that has laws around banning children from buying the games. I may not agree, but at least he wouldn't be spouting shit about something that already exists.

But no, he just said rating system. And not just for games, he wants a rating system for movies too. HOW NOVEL

Quote:

We have to look at the Internet, because a lot of bad things are happening to young kids and young minds, and their minds are being formed. And we have to do something about maybe what they’re seeing and how they’re seeing it,
I mean, they might stumble on your Twitter account for one thing.

Quote:

And also video games. I’m hearing more and more people say the level of violence in video games is really shaping young people’s thoughts. And then you go the further step and that’s the movies. You see these movies, they’re so violent and yet a kid is able to see a movie if sex isn’t involved, but killing is involved. Maybe they have to put a rating system for that.
What he really means is more restricted ratings around violence, of course, but he's not the greatest speaker.
