Story mode for Dragonball FighterZ looks like Killer Instinct's Shadow Lords. Cool.

Saw a Kai in there.

Today's News:
1) During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed Microsoft currently has plans to open new studios and purchase others in order to help develop more exclusive games for the Xbox brand. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ts-to-software 2) SALES & FREEBIES:
3) Update to recent Arc System Works opening a new North American branch news as the company announced BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle will be the first game released in-house for North America via this branch. https://www.destructoid.com/blazblue...e-471258.phtml |
Looks like the recent PS4 event spooked them. This could be a good thing, then again I don't care too much for the exclusives that define PS. To be totally honest both companies should push for bigger Japanese games, and smaller titles from the west. And overall less shallow bullshit.
|
Eh xbox will always be a niche brand. Strong in the states atleast. Exclusives are expensive to make and its worsw when your market share is so small.
|
Niche is kinda strong a word to use for Xbox.
|
It is niche though. It is big in America, not so much everywhere else on Earth.
|
I feel like they have even further cemented that niche status by making all exclusives release on PC. Exclusives are a big deciding factor for people that don't intend to own multiple consoles...and when PCs have such a massive presence in the world it kinda negates the need for an Xbox at all.
|
I usually end up with every console released at some point. Xbox One is the first console I wish I hadn't bought and feel like I genuinely wasted my money on.

Dunno if it's fair to call it limited or niche just because Japan doesn't like it. Still pretty popular in the rest of the world.
|
PS4 has 3 to 1 market penetration in the rest of the world compared to XB1.
Also XB1 lost the HUGE advantage that the 360 had over PS3 in North America. 360 nearly doubled sales totals of PS3 in North America. PS4 leads XB1 in sales in North America by 2-3 million. Also 360 was semi-competitive with PS3 in Europe, not the case with PS4 vs XB1, where PS4 now has a 3 to 1 lead. Microsoft has had one popular console. They lost the global race with it even though they carried a huge advantage in North America. Globally, PS3 did 86.8 million and 360 did 85.8 million. Now they are losing North America and getting slaughtered everywhere else in the world. PS4 has sold 63.6 million, Xbox has sold 31.1 million, with 2/3 of that coming from North America. Xbox is a niche brand. |
Also for reference PS2 beat OG Xbox by nearly 7 to 1 in sales.
|
Oh well I guess I'd better start wearing scarves and fedoras, and sunglasses indoors and shit.
|
Might as well get a corncob pipe that blows bubbles while you're at it.
|
If Xbox and Playstation were the only two consoles ever I suppose you can say it's niche (though even then we're still talking about something in millions of homes). If Xbox is niche or limited what's a Switch or gaming PC? Both have a decent install base but there's a reason AAA gaming consoles are spoken of in binary.
|
They are the 2 consoles that are competing with each other right now...I could have added in how the original Wii destroyed everything in sales at the time for the sake of the argument, but I didn't feel it was needed to make the point. I left out the switch because it's a brand new console and due to not having the same time being released can't be accurately compared in sales to the other 2 right now. Switch has a total of 6 million in sales because it has been out for 6 months, as opposed to 4 years. There is no way to extrapolate how much it will sell at this point.
There is no way to even bring PC into this argument because the sales figures for gaming rigs aren't even trackable as far as I know since a good chunk are built by the user. Either way, adding the only other console company in the Xbox time frame, Nintendo, further cements their niche status. Sure, the Wii U flopped, but the Wii itself outsold every Microsoft console combined. |
Sure but niche is kinda dismissive for the Xbox.
|
Who cares if its dismissive if it's the truth? It does good in one area of the global market and nowhere else and is dwarfed overall by its competitors.
Would it be more palatable to you if I said it was niche everywhere except America? |
I suppose that would be accurate.
|
The switch will trounce the Xbones lifetime sales

Today's News:
1) According to reports, Destiny 2 is currently dealing with a banning epidemic and it appears to not be entirely related to legit cheating. Supposedly Bungie either has gone overboard with items on the banned list and/or are having false-positives triggered causing mass bans to occur frequently. https://www.destructoid.com/destiny-...y-471553.phtml 2) During a recent investors meeting, Take Two revealed all of their future games will have a stronger focus towards micro-transactions and/or loot-boxes as part of current plans to squeeze more money out of players. https://www.destructoid.com/take-two...s-471652.phtml 3) IO Interactive announced they are currently developing a new Hitman game and its official debut to occur at some point next year. https://www.destructoid.com/io-inter...s-471555.phtml |

3) Nintendo recently denied rumors of them currently working on a N64 Classic while the supposed source of the rumor turned out to be instead for the UK's Wii U Virtual Console service. https://www.destructoid.com/list-of-...c-471857.phtml 4) Based on a recent press release from Take Two, Grand Theft Auto V recently became the best selling game ever for North America. https://www.destructoid.com/grand-th...e-471663.phtml |
Looks like Bioware now has some competition for possible next member of the EA Graveyard.
EA announced they recently bought Respawn Entertainment for around $455 million depending on conditions. In terms of current projects, EA announced Respawn is working on a new VR game, a new Titanfall game, and a new Star Wars game. https://venturebeat.com/2017/11/09/e...rtainment-455/ |
There was a Tweet posted showing the order of events.
1) Nexon make a bid for Respawn 2) As per their publishing agreement, EA gets first refusal 3) EA shuts down Visceral 4) EA buys Respawn 3 might be unrelated, but Nexons bid was well above market value knowing Respawns deal with EA and hoping EA wouldn't match it. Shutting down Visceral seems to fit in with the cost saving needed to bring Respawn in. |
Whats the story about bioware going belly up? Not seeing anything on this anywhere but here....
|
They won't actually be shut down any time soon but they likely are on the shakiest grounds out of all of EA's big studios. Mass Effect series is on indefinite hold and their Montreal branch got merged with another EA studio after Andromeda's poor reception.
If Anthem fails to meet whatever EA expects, their future would probably be on life support. |
Mass Efffect is over. They will end the story with book or comic.

Today's News:
1) For those interested in Star Wars Battlefront II, some new details regarding the game's microtransaction and unlocking system were revealed. Unlike the first game, all heroes and villains are locked at the start while the grinding to unlock them was initially a lot harsher but the backlash was enough to force DICE to make changes. https://www.destructoid.com/you-re-l...i-472432.phtml https://www.ea.com/games/starwars/ba...changes-launch 2) Blizzard teasing they are currently working on plans for a possible Overwatch film. https://www.destructoid.com/blizzard...e-472486.phtml 3) For those interested or own Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Bethesda revealed the dates and contents for the game's planned DLC packs with the first arriving on December 14th. https://www.destructoid.com/here-s-t...i-472524.phtml |
