Oh..my..fucking.god. I was expecting to be disappointed.. But prepare to get brainfucked again. This movie well, let's just say that the premise is much like Cabin in The Woods then it turns out to be a fucking horrific darker version of Marty McFly's Back To The Future storyline.. Yes, maybe I'm wrong to say it or just being generous.. And why am I saying that? Well, spoilers ahead if you wanna read or just go see it for yourself.

SPOILER: show
A. 3 strangers all had similar car fucked up accidents.. Samantha, the woman in the coat says she came from 1962 and is driving through Hampshire to go to the hospital cos she's giving birth with hubby, while the bad-ass 80's chick grocery robber Jody claims it's 1985 and she was on her way to Seattle, while Tom, the main guy says his car got stuck in a ditch and was on his way to South Dakota and it's the year 2011.

B. Samantha says she's from 1962 era cos she hasn't seen the new currency of money that was printed in 1980's on Jody's coat while she is from 1985. And Tom, well, his coat was made in 2011. Also, they even noticed the cabin had a radio that looked like it was used from World War era, plus, a bomb shelter with food/beans and liquor all dating back to fucking 1930's and 40's. All of the labels on it are in GERMAN. WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ALL ABOUT!??!

C. Then comes another character who's a German soldier with a rifle gun and taunts the 3 strangers that all of them had the same lockets with a picture of the woman that looked like she's 30 plus... WHO THE FUCK WAS THAT?

D. And it turns out Samantha the coat woman is the one in the picture, then tells Jody, that she gave birth to a daughter with the SAME FUCKING FIRST NAME!!! And the last name unfortunately is German as well. Neumann. Also, it's later revealed the German soldier is the FATHER of the mother who gave birth to the future 80's bad-rebellious chick Jody!! HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

E. Everytime the characters try to escape the dark woods outside the cabin no matter where they go, they end up back in the cabin. I like how one of them references the fucked shit like they're in a Pac-Man level game or in a Deliverance movie.

I won't tell the ending.. I could go on and on about it.. Man, never have I enjoyed a film that's sooo fucking unexpected, I didn't see that one coming.. Also, pay attention to what happens in the start of the movie with the grocery guy being held at gunpoint and the characters keep on asking
SPOILER: show
"WHAT'S IN THE SAFE?!?"
Then, POOOF!! You're in for a fucking surprise.

8/10.

Fucking loved it. Had no idea what to expect as I purposely avoided reading anything about it except that 'it was good'.

I'll check it out...

well...this was unfortunate. Im not sure which was more egregious the incest subplot or the helicopter machine gun attack. Feels like Puzzo wrote this while watching diehard on vacation in Kentucky. All the subtlety, nuance and symbolism from the 1st two films are gone and what is left is a cartoon version of the previous entries. The fact this was penned by the same hand is baffling.

To the films credit the climax is well constructed and Michael gets what he has coming to him in poetic fashion.

slik 02-21-2020 02:04 PM

I also liked Cabin in the Woods

Destor 02-22-2020 03:58 AM

Midsommar -7/10

SPOILER: show
Tension and cinematography are good but the films broad strokes are very paint by numbers. This i could ignore if it were for the issue of the films central point: Dani is burdened by Christian and she needs to "clense the evil."

For 3 years this character emotionally blackmailed him to stay with her and yet its her who is the captive based off...him not attending to her emotional needs? And that at its core is the moral of the fairy tale we have here.

Its a fine film as far as the tone it aims to set but as a piece of writing its rubbish. Clearly written by someone who had been hurt and hastly wrote through the tears to make a point thats selfish and tone deaf. The films true saving grace is its alegory is so muddled that most viewers wont even catch the story at all.

Cars - 8/10

Dunno.... always avoided this franchise and everything to do with it because it seemed "dumb"..... but.... I actually enjoyed the movie.... Pretty "standard" Pixar story of "character gets lost and then learns a life lesson/becomes a better person" though....

Seanny One Ball 02-23-2020 05:52 PM

I bet Gary Numan's hit track "Cars" was in that film

rez 02-23-2020 07:02 PM

I'm watching Drinking Buddies right now...how did I not know this existed? Revolution Brewery <3

GD 02-23-2020 07:04 PM

I remember enjoying that movie.

Frank Drebin 02-23-2020 07:58 PM

If I'd known Anna Kendrick was here at that time, I'd be dead of sepsis by now after letting her shit in my mouth so much.

*RP post

Frank Drebin 02-23-2020 07:59 PM

That's really going to touch a nerve with Seanny. He think Anna Kendrick is an "ok looking bird" but not "hot".

Destor 02-23-2020 08:36 PM

Loveme some Kendrick

rez 02-23-2020 10:19 PM

I give it a 9/10. Loved they didn't go for the sappy ending. gg they're such alcoholics lol

Lock Jaw 02-23-2020 10:52 PM

Ratatouille - 9/10

Really enjoyed it.... though Disney+ gave me the French version again...... although I didn't realize it until the end credits when it was all in French, because I just assumed all the other text in the movie was in French because it WAS in Paris.....

M-A-G 02-24-2020 01:12 PM

All this talk of Anna Kendrick reminds me of the time when out of the blue I had an intimate dream about her. I've legitimately only seen two movies with her in it and didn't really pay her any mind so WTF?

She's plenty hot.

She's just not Blake Lively hot

GD 02-24-2020 02:09 PM

That kiss in "A Simple Favor" was wicked.

"Ratatouille" is boss. The depiction of France is gorgeous and Janeane Garofalo kills it with her role. The bit about the sous chef giving several stories about why he was in prison is hilarious, too. It's easily in my top 5 of Pixar films.

GD 02-24-2020 04:25 PM

Attempting to watch Louis CK's "I Love You, Daddy".

The Gentlemen - 3.75/5

Nice rebound for Guy Ritchie after that King Arthur dud. But, it's the same old tricks and style he always turns out in his movies these days.

This movie was uncomfortable to watch at times. It felt self serving and mundane at times. It wasn’t that bad.

Damian Rey 2.0 02-26-2020 04:21 AM

Birds of Prey-7/10

Few too many characters, but Margot Robbie is so damn good and captivating. Ewan McGregor as an insecure, narcissistic, childish and needy Black Mask was also a fun villain. It's a fun, hyper violent and briskly paced good time. Shame it's not getting more box office results.

Destor 02-27-2020 02:09 AM

Incredibles 2 - 7/10

i really love this world, characters and mythos. I follows the rythm of the original but its still fun. Would unquestionably watch another.

Destor 02-27-2020 02:11 AM

Also mad props for how they acknowledge the difference between legality and morality. Not that the first film didnt. But still. Its nice.

Destor 02-27-2020 02:34 AM

Downton Abbey: The Motion Picture- 7/10

Not particularly needed. Steps on the toes of the final season a bit. Still nice to be back with these characters all the same. Story is charming as always. Not sure how i feel about the franchise continuing. Feels like its explored everything worth exploring.

It's a good film and all but it's missing two major things that make it not as good as the original: a villain with the charisma and presence of Sindrome and a good reason as to why not age the characters. It's still not bad. I can watch that Jack-Jack/raccoon fight for ages.

Damian Rey 2.0 02-29-2020 04:02 AM

The raccoon scene is great but I agree. I didn't mind the idea of picking right up where they left off. But the movie does lack the compelling villain of the first.

Blonde Moment 02-29-2020 08:02 PM

Color out of Space 7/10
A pretty good Lovecraftian movie with rumors of it potentially being part of a shared universe.

The first film is a 9/10 no question

Pan's Labyrinth - 9/10

Destor 03-06-2020 01:40 PM

Knives out - 8/10

A brilliant who-done-it with some of the best misdirection ive ever seen.

GD 03-06-2020 06:11 PM

Fruitvale Station - It was difficult to watch. Michael B Jordan's acting was stellar.

slik 03-07-2020 09:09 PM

Onward - 8/10

Pixar knocks it out the park, er Quest, again.

Onward was terrific and makes you laugh and while taking a sword in the feels.

Destor 03-07-2020 09:10 PM

Jojo Rabbit - 9/10

GD 03-09-2020 07:36 PM

Sleepy Hollow - 6/10

Dora and the Lost City of Gold-7/10

Surprisingly funny, self aware and almost spoof like live action take on the cartoon, following a now teenage Dora as she tries to navigate awkwardly thru adjusting in high school only to be sucked in to another adventure.
