How does Fox's rights with the mutants work? Do they have... every mutant available to them? Or can they not bring in any more new mutants due to the rights issue now?

Funky Fly 03-30-2011 02:20 PM

Everyone under the X-Men umbrella, it seems. Deadpool is not a mutant, but they got him because of his X-Force/Weapon X Project/new X-Force ties.

Kalyx triaD 03-30-2011 02:21 PM

X-Men characters - which presumably includes the entire mutant sandbox for Fox. I could be wrong, but they seem to have easy pickings whenever they add mutants to their movies.

The rumor of Wanda appearing in Avengers would have thrown me off, but it seems that won't happen.

Lock Jaw 03-30-2011 02:35 PM

Means they have like half the Marvel Universe. :shifty:

Did you read the comics? Maybe you would have enjoyed it more if you had read it first?

Unless you're referring to the comics... :'(

Inadequacy 04-07-2011 10:06 PM

Kinda hated the slow motion dropkick and the awful "I'm getting tasered" bit. The switch to Hawkeye in that shaky bucket was kind of lame, but it'll probably make more sense in context.

Still pretty excited for this though.

Read Marvel comic event, Fear Itself #1 this weekend. Thor gets some wake-up calls in that as well.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 07:59 PM

Damn it, didn't know that was out already. Need to read that.

Rammsteinmad 04-14-2011 12:08 PM

So this entire film is just Thor beating people up, saying something about how he's 'the mighty...' before being proved wrong. :-\

Nah just kidding though, I can't wait for this film!

Kalyx triaD 04-14-2011 01:49 PM

Tom Hiddleston was signed to play Loki in 5 Marvel films. As usual this deals don't specify which film, so Loki could pop up in Iron Man 3 or Avengers 2 if it gets that far.

I think these deals are so open to give writers and producers a larger pool of characters played by their legacy actors when coming up with new movies.

I has a confession... There's this cool site that shows hi-res covers of DC and Marvel books months in advance (sometimes Image and Darkhorse as well) and I've been collecting the artwork I like best. I've been doing for years.

So now when I see cool covers I will link them here. This is the site (on a gallery, just click the banner).

Movie Style!

Sixx 04-20-2011 05:27 PM

So apparently they chose Cobie Smulders for Maria Hill in Avengers. At least according to imdb.

I don't think that's too great of a choice.

Kalyx triaD 04-20-2011 05:47 PM

I think we covered that one. I can't say if it's a good choice or not, I don't know Maria Hill outside of her panels in Civil War.

mitchables 04-20-2011 05:59 PM

thor was really good. went to a preview screening a couple nights ago. i actually enjoyed it a lot more than i thought i was going to. the tone was bang on. hemsworth did a good job of transitioning the character from brash and arrogant to benevolent and heroic. natalie portman is probably the weakest choice cast-wise, because for all her trumpeting about preparing for the role by looking at real-life female scientists and their struggle to be heard and taken seriously, she kind of comes off a bit schoolgirlish throughout, all giggles and embarrassed silence around buff people claiming to be gods. guy that plays heimdall is fantastic. not a huge role but a pivotal one, and he is awesome in it. everyone else was generally pretty good too. agent coulson was, as always, a treat (upon seeing the destroyer for the first time: "is that one of stark's?") - and the appearance of hawkeye was really well done. it hints at who you'll see before you see them, but for anyone who's read the comics it's immediately obvious, and a nice set-up for a couple films down the road.

overall though, really strong outing from marvel. definitely not the runt of the litter as predicted. go check it out feeling good about the prospect guys, because it's actually a pleasantly surprising film.

Sixx 04-20-2011 05:59 PM

We covered that?

I remember debating about which of some three actresses would be the best, but I don't remember Cobie Smulders being the closest to being cast.

Oh, well.

Right, for some reason Australia gets Thor first.

The Destroyer 04-23-2011 02:56 PM

It's a Fear Itself teaser rather than a cover as far as I know - it's tagline is something along the lines of "do you fear... what you've become?".

So maybe Cyclops fears becoming a mad Magneto style leader of mutants. Or something.

Rammsteinmad 04-23-2011 03:01 PM

Oh I see, that would make sense.

Nowhere Man 04-24-2011 07:11 PM

I would actually love to see that. Having a bit where he goes off the reservation and becomes a violent mutant militant would definitely give Cyclops some more interesting aspects to his character, especially if he has to redeem himself later on a la Hal Jordan.

Kalyx triaD 04-24-2011 07:18 PM

The Hal/Paralax kinda sucked, though... But a Cyke-mutant ruler deal may be better.

Anybody catch the last 'Wolverine's Possessed Body' issue? Cyke is still thinking of Jean. It was a funny issue, though.

Fignuts 04-24-2011 07:19 PM

Kalyx, you need to get on new avengers.

Kalyx triaD 04-24-2011 07:45 PM

Anything about that you think appeals to me? This is the second time you mentioned New Avengers. I might be a Secret Avengers guy.

LuigiD 04-25-2011 11:53 AM

New Avengers is my favorite Marvel book. Even when I am not reading comics I always make the effort to read at least read that. It seems like just about every event touches the New Avengers somehow.

Jeritron 04-25-2011 03:47 PM

I never liked the concept of Spider-Man in the Avengers, but it'd be long winded to get into it.
Either way I liked that it never happened for most of Marvel's history, and I fully understand why they'd do it now.

Kalyx triaD 04-26-2011 09:35 PM

Opened an official Avengers movie thread, all updates will go there (as far as me reporting anyway). It's filming now, get hype.

Kalyx triaD 05-03-2011 08:02 PM

- Marvel is quite happy with X-Men and Fantastic Four at Fox and Spider-Man at Sony. Kevin Fiege remarked that so long as they do the characters justice, they will make movies for the forseeable future (:().

- Along with visual easter eggs in Thor (regarding a vault of cosmic artifacts), Marvel hopes to expand the Movie-verse with magical and cosmic elemenst with Doctor Strange. From the sounds of it Strange will be a part of the universe.

Fox 05-04-2011 12:42 PM

In what way did Fantastic Four or FF 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer do the Fantastic Four "justice"? Has the meaning of the word "justice" been changed to mean "taken a large steaming shit upon"?

Rammsteinmad 05-04-2011 01:04 PM

They did the fantastic four themselves justice. Well, Jessica Alba as invisible woman is debatable I suppose, but she was passable in my opinion. Silver Surfer was done well. The only problems were Dr. Doom and Galactus. Making Galactus a cloud, was just lazy. And Dr. Doom was more of a whiny douchebag, than the regal, intimidating villain he is supposed to be.

The crotch area will probably be reduced in post. Superheroes can't have cocks sticking out.

Sixx 05-05-2011 05:32 AM

Was there ever a superhero that wore sweat pants?

The Destroyer 05-05-2011 05:35 AM

The crotch is probably something to do with the harness for the cable he's swinging on.

And no sweat pant wearing superheroes are springing to mind.

Kalyx triaD 05-05-2011 02:50 PM

Deadpool's Origins appearance had him in sweat pants.

I enjoyed the Banshee clips at least, you wouldn't think they'd keep his flying ability.

Not digging Zoe's character being Angel instead of Pixie. It would have made more sense to adjust her as movie-version Pixie since comic Pixie got a bump of exposure over the years. Not to mention Zoe with her wings resembles Pixie in a way.

Fignuts 05-22-2011 04:19 AM

Why the fuck does it take so long for every new issue of Avengers: Children's Crusade to come out. Fuck.

The Destroyer 05-22-2011 05:36 AM

Not like massive delays are anything new with Young Avengers.

Fignuts 05-22-2011 06:27 AM

Oh and by the way, the new fantastic four book, aka Future Foundation is awesome, and my new favorite book.

Pick it up, unless you are a giant pussy who fears change and new ideas.

Nowhere Man 05-22-2011 09:22 AM

I'll admit that I was skeptical about FF because having Spidey on the team was an obvious marketing ploy to get people to read it (although it does make sense in-character, what with him and Torch being best friends), but damn if I'm not hooked on it. Crazy super-science plots, hilarious dialogue, and I have to admit, my new favorite team costumes ever.

Fignuts 05-22-2011 10:28 PM

Everything about it is fantastic. I've never really even liked FF that much, but this is great.

And honestly, ever since spider-man joined the new avengers, I've aactually preferred him as a team player, rather than as a solo act. With every team he joins, he just has brilliant chemistry with the other characters. He's good in his own book, but he is so much more entertaining when he has other people to play off of. Can't tell you how many times I've laughed out loud at some of his moments in all these books.

And yeah, the new uniforms are badass. I thought they were cool even when they were revealed and everyone was "BAAAAAAAWWWW"ing about it.

Personally, I'm a fan of new ideas, and making bold moves. That is probably why I like Grant Morrison. Can't stand these people who say crap like, "Well if he was a good writer he wouldn't need to change things. He could just write good stories with what he's got." That's bullshit. I don't care how good a writer is, these properties have been around since the 60's and there is only so much you can do, before you need to make some bold changes to allow fresh, new stories to be told.

I like things like New X-men, and One More Day(The idea of it anyways, not the execution.)

Fignuts 05-22-2011 10:31 PM

Yeah, and I honestly don't care if spidey joining was a marketing decision, because he's always been really tight with the FF, not just Johnny. And he's something of a scientist himself, so it works on that level as well.

Majunior 05-23-2011 01:49 AM

One thing I like about Spidey lately is writers have been tapping into the scientist things. It's actually being used, not just a footnote in his bio.

Fignuts 05-23-2011 02:25 AM

Gonna be honest the latest tv trailer for x-men is getting me pumped. Looks pretty good.

Kalyx triaD 05-23-2011 02:34 AM

Did I mention that Jaimie Alexander (Sif, Thor) expressed desire to portray X23? I prefer Vanessa Hudgens, but a proven fresh face (without tabloid baggage) may entice Fox to the character. I decree: Allow this.

http://images2.fanpop.com/image/phot...93-529-684.jpghttp://geek-news.mtv.com/wp-content/...targetx1_1.jpg

Fignuts 05-23-2011 03:12 AM

Feel like it would be really really hard to make x-23 work on film.

Kalyx triaD 05-23-2011 03:24 AM

On the contrary, I find her to be one of the most movie-friendly characters in Marvel's library.

Go with my Hudgens casting and you expand the age demo to net tweeners, tapping Twilight's target audience. Girls will be lured in, guys think she's hot. She'd fit with the possibility of X4 being youth oriented. Can give Hugh Jackman a new angle to work with (Logan as father figure).

Go with Alexander and you increase the 'sexiness', and present women with their own 'Wolverine'. She'd bring in those who enjoyed her in Thor, and she can promote the movie in hound-dog circles (Maxim, etc). Could interact with Jackman on a closer level (sibling, cousin), or outright be the 'feral character' if Wolverine doesn't make the movie.

Then there's the X-movies lacking a marketable action girl in general. It won't be Rogue.

Fignuts 05-23-2011 03:43 AM

Not really talking about marketability.

Took a lot of writing and complex stories took make x-23 a respectable character and not a shameless wolverine clone. Just don't think you can fit that into a movie. Seems like she would inevitably seen as a cheap cash in by critics.

Kalyx triaD 05-23-2011 04:05 AM

Fuck critics. We know better.

Fignuts 05-23-2011 04:18 AM

Would be a legit complaint. I'm sure the action scenes would be fun, but I just can't see how they could avoid her being a shallow character given the time constraints of a movie.

As a fan of the character, I wouldn't like it. Would probably end up being like deadpool in origins, albeit to a lesser extent.

Kalyx triaD 05-23-2011 01:26 PM

Rogue in X1 was essentially a prototype of the character without them knowing it. Even as far as her relationship with Logan goes.

Do that again, add more depth and stakes, and killer fight scenes, and I'm happy.
