I wonder how much a spare/replacement controller will cost if its got a touchscreen? At 6 inches its smaller than an iPad but bigger than most touchscreen phones..Id assume it would have to be about as powerful as a generic touchscreen phone but i probably wouldnt need all the bells and whistles..but still probably would be $100 at least, if not more?
Not to mention battery life. The damn thing better at least have some haptic feedback. |
Yes Nintendo will release 100$ controllers. This is very evident by reality, yes.
I actually agree about the feedback, but Nintendo's one of those guys who can announce something absurd and watch you buy it the year after. I'm betting there will be at least three controller options anyway - much like the Wiimote and Classic Pro controllers. |
Droford, sometimes man... :nono:
The Wii is a Gamecube with motion controls. Most of the stuff for it is shovelware crap. However, there are some fantastic games for it. The system has sold more than 360 and more than PS3. Both of those consoles are several times more powerful than the Wii. It's stands to reason that a Wii with PS3 levels of power and a multifunctional controller could be used for so much more than the Wii already is, and would sell quite well as it would allow for more hardcore gamer type games while still catering to that massive casual market they've cornered. |

One of Rockstar's previous cancelled projects involved making a spiritual sequel to The Warriors game but this time set in the UK during the 1960s Mods vs Rockers gang warfare era.
The idea was even though they only had the license for the first Warriors game, Rockstar was considering making this into a new series which would have kept the idea of the Warriors film but involve more gangs and locations similar to how their GTA series was set up. The biggest reason why Rockstar shelved those plans involved the switch from the PS2 era to the Xbox 360 era for consoles which would have required most of the current project and engine to be scrapped in favor of an all new engine and HD assets. Around the same time, Rockstar too busy creating the Euphoria engine and didn't have the time nor manpower to create another engine just for the Warriors sequel. http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/as...rriorsmods.jpg http://kotaku.com/#!5792730/rockstar...o-the-warriors ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Capcom's European branch hints that Capcom's future plans might include something similar to what Activision does but not as badly in the long run. The plan is for Resident Evil and Street Fighter to form the basis of their yearly portfolio with new games and IPs sprinkled in. The biggest differences between this plan and Activision's is Capcom will not suddenly make every year have a SF and a RE game. Quote:

That Warriors meta-sequel would have been tight.

The tardcore probably won't want it when compared to whatever Microsoft and Sony have to offer in a couple years, and they risk alienating the soccer moms who bought the shit out of the Wii. That being said, they probably won't, but it's a little absurd to assume the best of both worlds. That being said, the rumour's believability mostly hinges on whether you buy them manufacturing an affordable 6" HD touchscreen with all the bells and whistles. And while I'm not going to say it's impossible, remember "insiders" leaked bullshit specs on the Revolution/Wii, and Nintendo totally blew smoke up our asses back when they were hyping "project Dolphin's" power. Actually, they kinda lied about Wii and N64's power, too. |
Touch screens themselves aren't all that expensive. In fact, they're not expensive at all. It's devices that have touch screens that cost a lot. That's not a factor at all.
Doesn't seem all that difficult to me to take a Wiimote and a scaled down DS (without the top screen) and fuse them into a single controller that can be used several ways. Still simple (how hard is it to use a touch screen on what would presumably just be a new Wiimote?), with new funtionality. Trivia game buzzers, radar for FPS games, extra options for super in depth RPGs, virtual pets, individual minigames the possibilities are endless. I didn't say they'd take back the hardcore market, just that they could allow for more games of that ilk. And yeah, it's all speculation at this point, but I'm just saying that if that's the case, this is what they could potentially do. A man can dream, can't he? :'( |
The beta controller has been described in a rumor as something similar to a Gamecube controller in shape but with the functionality of a Wiimote with Nunchuck, the Dreamcast's screen, and a layout similar to an iPad/iTouch but with actual buttons.

Yeah, GTA 1 and 2 and something called Wild Metal. Here.

And if we're talking inclusive functionality, one of the reasons 1:1 controls weren't possible with the Wiimote is the tech was too expensive. As it is, it still boosts the user price up 20 bucks, so unless they want to abandon functionality or take a hit on hardware, taking Wiimote functionality on top of an HD touch screen will have cost issues. Yeah, WMP is cheaper now, but it's still relatively expensive, and last I knew profit margins were slim. So basically, Nintendo's going to take a hit for your fanboy ass? Nah. But if you want to be mad ridiculous, go for it. |
If there is somehow going to be a screen on the controller, it better be rechargeable. That got a bit stupid with the DC's VMU.

The question is, will they be replaceable, or do we have to send out to Nintendo and pay a 50 dollar convenience charge? |
Another mock-up:
http://gearmedia.ign.com/gear/image/...5053115064.jpg S'okay. Anyway it seems Nintendo would give many older concepts of the GCN/GBA connectivity another go, this time all the tech is right there. We know the obvious FPS radar and Madden secret playbooks are coming... But what else can be done? And what AAA franchise will Nintendo put to work on the thing? |
Gave up on Tekken.

I give a shit about music games. :(
|
200 bucks for a controller, lol I'm sure that sounded smart in Drofords head. The only way 200 bucks would be "justified" was if the thing gave you a blow job.
|
the damn thing probably will cost $200 if its got a 6 inch touchscreen on it..the fucking iPad costs $600 with a 9 inch screen.
If they're going to make the damn thing so expensive they might as well make it the next game boy while they're at it. People fucking pay $300 for phones to sit around and play angry birds on.. Plus the 3DS is a joke and its being outsold by the PSP in Japan. I dont think the 3DS is anything more than another .5 revision of the DS like the XL and Lite were. A damn 6 inch touchscreen system with controller capabilities for their new console would be awesome. |

Arc System Works confirms BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2 will be coming to the 3DS and PSP on May 31 with a special bonus for those who have the first game on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
The game was originally set to arrive May 24 but the studio realized it would be much wiser to push the release date as that is the same date as the new Dead or Alive game for the 3DS. For PS3 and Xbox 360 owners of the first game, Arc has promised the game will be sort of given away as free DLC for the first game but with some changes and some stuff being separated as paid DLC. Another source says the controller itself is much more accurate and stronger than the WiiMote Plus and PS Move. The screen does allow streaming from console to controller and could mimic how the Nintendo DS separates stuff with two screens. EA, Activision, Ubisoft and other big studios have had the development kits as early as late 2010. |
Consider this as a bonus piece of news that has a lot of importance on the next Xbox and Playstation system being as expensive or even more expensive than when the Xbox 360 and PS3 launched.
DICE and Crytek want both Microsoft and Sony to add a lot more PC power and features to the next consoles with Crytek wanting something around 8GB as the minimum. Epic Games wants somewhere around 2-4 GB for their new engine. Ubisoft and THQ also want new consoles and potentially higher prices for games. |
They can also go to hell

Nah, wtf do I care. I rarely buy games.

New games modes revealed for the upcoming Legend of Zelda 3DS game with Boss Challenge mode and a hint system mode being the recently revealed modes.
Boss Challenge mode is a series of boss fights done in a row similar to the Castlevania DS series but in this case the mode unlocks after a certain part of the game is finished instead of completely the whole game. The hint system is expected to be something similar to Super Mario Galaxy 2 that gives hints on controls and for certain areas of the game. The hints are also in video form just like in Super Mario Galaxy 2. http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/pics/fi...3_expanded.jpg http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/8...ions-detailed/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sony has not officially confirmed it but according to retailers and Sony's own stores, the PSP Go has been discontinued from production with no more shipments expected for the handheld. Activision explains they are well aware of the potential of Call of Duty series falling into the same decline and trap as the Guitar Hero series. At the same time, the studio has said they learned a lot from their mistakes with the GH series and spin-offs.
Activision feels the major difference involves the slower rise and growing fanbase in shooters compared to the sudden rush in populaity with the music genre with an unstable fanbase. They also realized unlike with Guitar Hero, CoD doesn't require $100+ instruments to be re-bought each game or need specific spin-offs to cater to the wide range of music fans. Quote:

PlayStation Network Down, Sony Says Service Could Be Out Up to Two Days
By Mike Sharkey | Apr 21, 2011 Hacker activist group Anonymous says it has nothing to do with outage.
What started as a sporadic outage last night has turned into a full-blown crash. Sony has confirmed PlayStation Network is down across the U.S. and Europe, and the company is currently investigating if the outage is being caused by an outside party. Posting on the U.S. PlayStation Blog last night, Communications Director Patrick Seybold wrote that Sony was aware "certain functions" of PSN were down. Those certain functions are still down, and now the rest of the PlayStation 3's online network is as well. "As you are no doubt aware, the current emergency outage is continuing this afternoon and all Sony Online Network services remain unavailable," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe PS blog manager James Gallagher posted today. "Our support teams are investigating the cause of the problem, including the possibility of targeted behavior by an outside party. If the reported Network problems are indeed caused by such acts, we would like to once again thank our customers who have borne the brunt of the attack through interrupted service." Hacker activist group Anonymous appeared to pull back from its war on Sony after a protest it organized at Sony Stores around the world over the weekend fizzled. However, the group previously promised its biggest attack yet was still to come, and many immediately linked today's outage to Anon. However, writing on the Operation Sony Facebook page, Anonymous made it clear it is not behind the attack: "ATTENTION: For everyone coming here complaining about the PSN or inquiring about it, We Do Not Know What Happened This is not the work of Anonymous." Sony said its engineers are continuing to work to resolve the problems and updates will be provided throughout the day on PlayStation.com, the PlayStation blog, and the PlayStation twitter feed. Most recently, Seybold posted on the PlayStation blog at 12:30 p.m. EST that it "may be a full day or two before we're able to get the service completely back up and running." |

Split screen rendered obsolete, I dig it. Looks like a cool handheld in it's own right, although it certainly doesn't have the guts to be a full fledged handheld. Hope the design stays close to that art.

A survey sent to Kotaku and other companies/websites hints at what the Star Wars Kinect game might include after being revealed last year at E3. Two hidden modes not mentioned at E3 but could be in the final game appear to be a Pod Racing mode and a mode where you control a monster.

Well using it to play the Star Wars game is about as close as you'll get to actually being in Star Wars.
If it was badass without Kinect, surely it'll be better if you play the game while holding the lightsabre and have your swings kill Darth Vader or whoever. |
Still not totally sold on Kinect in regard to certain game types. Like... that Star Wars fake gameplay thing from way back... Just seemed strange to me.
|
The only thing two things I'm concerned about with Kinect is that it could end up never getting the "hardcore" games it would be cool to use it for and the issue of controlling your character.
Here's a crazy idea. What if they had a controller nub ring? You put it on your middle finger of whichever hand you prefer and then use your thumb to slide the nub (think, the 3DS control nub) around. It solves the control issue, you can still do punching motions etc. Best of both worlds. |
|
Shigeru Miyamoto has no desire to reveal anything about the upcoming next Nintendo console after being barraged with interviews once leaks of the new console were revealed.
His current goal is to finish the current work on this year's Wii games and 3DS games. As of now his top priority is to finish Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword for the Wii and the new Mario game for the 3DS. Any hidden projects would be revealed at E3 like last year with Kirby's Epic Yarn. He did however tell people to remain patient since information will be coming soon. Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A recent Gamestop internal memo states that Gamestop stores will be discounting selling new Nintendo DS Lites while cleaning out its current stock of DS Lites. Also found in the memo was the removal of all display units and advertising boxes for the Lite from stores. Gamestop is still DS Lites for about $129.99 with trade-in value being around $25-$50 per system. |
Online survery from EA hints at a possible subscription plan for EA online games, demos, and other goodies similar in style to other subscription based services.
EA's plan is to mimic Xbox Live Gold and Steam in service by giving away early access to demos for EA paid members, early downloading of games similar to Steam's pre-loading, and discounts for being paid members like PS+ does. It also appears their progressive career saves in EA Sports games could become a paid feature instead of being a free incentive for people to keep buying EA sports games. Quote:
Other companies such as Activision have in previous years hinted at making their own separate subscription service for their games but as of now it has only been done on a few MMO games that require their own servers. http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets...ssurveysub.png http://kotaku.com/#!5794984/paid-sub...-sports-titles |
I wish nobody would buy another game from EA Sports ever again.
|
Why? I mean for all the reasons to hate on EA Sports, the optional subscription seems like the smallest reason.
|
I was being semi-sarcastic. I really don't play their games as is. Ever since they got the exclusive NFL license Madden has been more or less a glorified roster update.
Who has the best hockey games? I used to love NHL98 or whatever. I think that was the last one I played. And I think the latest one is on the 360 marketplace. |
EA has the better hockey games, by a wide margin.

Think they'll ever make another TNA game?

Portal 2 might be the last game Valve does that shows importance to single player after recent news of the studio considering switching the focus of their game development from solo to co-op and multiplayer focused games.
Quote:
Valve would also be joining other developers who have switched their previously solo-focused series into multiplayer series as is the case with Bioshock, Uncharted, Dead Space, and Resident Evil. As well as catering to the current preference of the gaming industry and gamers who want multiplayer or co-op in every game even if it isn't needed (ex. Dead Space 2). This decision isn't expected to impact Half-Life 2 Episode 3 due to the series being a solo-campaign series but Valve could pull a Capcom and make Alyx Vance a playable character and make the game heavy in co-op gameplay similar to Resident Evil 5 with Sheva. http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/pics/va...6_expanded.jpg http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/8...-player-games/ |
Yeah that's a brilliant idea remove single player from everything :|
Or do they mean that all future games will allow you to play the campaign mode multiplayer if you wish. (Like Fable III or Perfect Dark or Halo, or Gears), cause that's alright as long as I'm not saddled with a shitty AI controlled partner if I'm playing alone (if I'm playing alone I don't want a partner forced on me just for the sake of a multiplayer option) But if we are talking about a future where all games require 2+ people, then that's just stupid |
Alyson Court is such a hot milf.

Quote:
Think Left 4 Dead, except with more story and coherence to the main campaign. |
Quote:
In other words it would suck if all future Valve games have a sidekick character that is always there whether you are playing alone or not. |
Most likely it means something similar to Portal 2's co-op being the main preference over Portal's solo or like a Resident Evil 5/Left 4 Dead where the 2nd player is either AI controlled or human controlled. No more games like Half-Life 1 and 2 where it is only a single player game.
Portal 2 was designed with the preference on single player and then Valve added co-op ability without having to sacrifice the single player unlike the Halo series or other shooters where multiplayer was the preference during development (Halo 3 was about 5-10 people working on solo and 300+ working on multiplayer). |

Nintendo is giving away a free downloadable game for 3DS owners in the upcoming May firmware update for the handheld.
The goal by Nintendo is to get more users online than previous efforts with the DS and later the Wii by giving away more free incentives as part of the plan. The game will be ExciteBike from the NES but with an added bonus of being redone to show off the 3D effects for NES games and potentially for Virtual Console/Virtual Boy games. Quote:

Playstation S1 & S2 Revealed:
Meet two new pieces of hardware by Sony; the S1 and S2. These tablets will play PS1 games as well as mobile style games (apps) presumably exclusive to the portable console.
