I wonder how much a spare/replacement controller will cost if its got a touchscreen? At 6 inches its smaller than an iPad but bigger than most touchscreen phones..Id assume it would have to be about as powerful as a generic touchscreen phone but i probably wouldnt need all the bells and whistles..but still probably would be $100 at least, if not more?

Not to mention battery life.

The damn thing better at least have some haptic feedback.

Kalyx triaD 04-15-2011 09:53 PM

Yes Nintendo will release 100$ controllers. This is very evident by reality, yes.

I actually agree about the feedback, but Nintendo's one of those guys who can announce something absurd and watch you buy it the year after.

I'm betting there will be at least three controller options anyway - much like the Wiimote and Classic Pro controllers.

Droford, sometimes man... :nono:

The Wii is a Gamecube with motion controls. Most of the stuff for it is shovelware crap. However, there are some fantastic games for it. The system has sold more than 360 and more than PS3. Both of those consoles are several times more powerful than the Wii.

It's stands to reason that a Wii with PS3 levels of power and a multifunctional controller could be used for so much more than the Wii already is, and would sell quite well as it would allow for more hardcore gamer type games while still catering to that massive casual market they've cornered.

One of Rockstar's previous cancelled projects involved making a spiritual sequel to The Warriors game but this time set in the UK during the 1960s Mods vs Rockers gang warfare era.

The idea was even though they only had the license for the first Warriors game, Rockstar was considering making this into a new series which would have kept the idea of the Warriors film but involve more gangs and locations similar to how their GTA series was set up.

The biggest reason why Rockstar shelved those plans involved the switch from the PS2 era to the Xbox 360 era for consoles which would have required most of the current project and engine to be scrapped in favor of an all new engine and HD assets.

Around the same time, Rockstar too busy creating the Euphoria engine and didn't have the time nor manpower to create another engine just for the Warriors sequel.

Capcom's European branch hints that Capcom's future plans might include something similar to what Activision does but not as badly in the long run.

The plan is for Resident Evil and Street Fighter to form the basis of their yearly portfolio with new games and IPs sprinkled in. The biggest differences between this plan and Activision's is Capcom will not suddenly make every year have a SF and a RE game.

Quote:

According to CVG, he said “The strategy going forward is for [Resident Evil and Street Fighter] to form the basis of the portfolio. We’re not saying it’s going to be all Street Fighter and Resident Evil forever. There will be new projects, but they will be shot through with Capcom’s quality NDA and subjected to a very rigorous green light process… there will be at least one more original title from us that will come out next year.”

Kalyx triaD 04-16-2011 08:17 PM

That Warriors meta-sequel would have been tight.

Except it's not going to be PS3-level technology (and the specs that are rumoured are heavily dated), and part of the appeal to the casual market was the simplicity of the Wiimote in the first place.

The tardcore probably won't want it when compared to whatever Microsoft and Sony have to offer in a couple years, and they risk alienating the soccer moms who bought the shit out of the Wii.

That being said, they probably won't, but it's a little absurd to assume the best of both worlds.

That being said, the rumour's believability mostly hinges on whether you buy them manufacturing an affordable 6" HD touchscreen with all the bells and whistles.

And while I'm not going to say it's impossible, remember "insiders" leaked bullshit specs on the Revolution/Wii, and Nintendo totally blew smoke up our asses back when they were hyping "project Dolphin's" power. Actually, they kinda lied about Wii and N64's power, too.

Funky Fly 04-17-2011 02:21 AM

Touch screens themselves aren't all that expensive. In fact, they're not expensive at all. It's devices that have touch screens that cost a lot. That's not a factor at all.

Doesn't seem all that difficult to me to take a Wiimote and a scaled down DS (without the top screen) and fuse them into a single controller that can be used several ways. Still simple (how hard is it to use a touch screen on what would presumably just be a new Wiimote?), with new funtionality. Trivia game buzzers, radar for FPS games, extra options for super in depth RPGs, virtual pets, individual minigames the possibilities are endless.

I didn't say they'd take back the hardcore market, just that they could allow for more games of that ilk.

And yeah, it's all speculation at this point, but I'm just saying that if that's the case, this is what they could potentially do. A man can dream, can't he? :'(

Emperor Smeat 04-17-2011 03:13 AM

The beta controller has been described in a rumor as something similar to a Gamecube controller in shape but with the functionality of a Wiimote with Nunchuck, the Dreamcast's screen, and a layout similar to an iPad/iTouch but with actual buttons.

And even the most stripped down of those devices with a high def touch screen tends to cost, so that's kind of a moot point. Though you just reached Fignuts level bullshit, but still.

And if we're talking inclusive functionality, one of the reasons 1:1 controls weren't possible with the Wiimote is the tech was too expensive. As it is, it still boosts the user price up 20 bucks, so unless they want to abandon functionality or take a hit on hardware, taking Wiimote functionality on top of an HD touch screen will have cost issues. Yeah, WMP is cheaper now, but it's still relatively expensive, and last I knew profit margins were slim.

So basically, Nintendo's going to take a hit for your fanboy ass? Nah. But if you want to be mad ridiculous, go for it.

G 04-17-2011 09:22 AM

If there is somehow going to be a screen on the controller, it better be rechargeable. That got a bit stupid with the DC's VMU.

If the claims are remotely accurate, I'd assume an "ipad with buttons" would have rechargeable batteries.

The question is, will they be replaceable, or do we have to send out to Nintendo and pay a 50 dollar convenience charge?

I get the feeling they can justify charging $200+ for the damn thing because it will be the next Game Boy Portable on its own, and hey..if you go buy our new $300 console you'll be able to use it to control games on that too. And if you dont go run out and buy that controller than it will come with a standard controller minus the screen. That way, they can up the console specs since they wont have to package the "best" controller in.

Fucking fuck, man. You know they already have the next "Game Boy Portable", right? It's called the 3DS. It came out like 2 seconds ago. It'll probably have a connectivity feature with the next Nintendo console like the DS has with the Wii (though as far as I know it's only been used in like 3 games).

No one's going to pay $200 for a controller that isn't shaped like a guitar. Even then no one gives a shit about music games anymore, so there you have it.

Kalyx triaD 04-18-2011 02:31 PM

LoDownM 04-18-2011 02:35 PM

200 bucks for a controller, lol I'm sure that sounded smart in Drofords head. The only way 200 bucks would be "justified" was if the thing gave you a blow job.

Droford 04-18-2011 04:42 PM

the damn thing probably will cost $200 if its got a 6 inch touchscreen on it..the fucking iPad costs $600 with a 9 inch screen.

If they're going to make the damn thing so expensive they might as well make it the next game boy while they're at it. People fucking pay $300 for phones to sit around and play angry birds on..

Plus the 3DS is a joke and its being outsold by the PSP in Japan. I dont think the 3DS is anything more than another .5 revision of the DS like the XL and Lite were. A damn 6 inch touchscreen system with controller capabilities for their new console would be awesome.

Arc System Works confirms BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2 will be coming to the 3DS and PSP on May 31 with a special bonus for those who have the first game on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The game was originally set to arrive May 24 but the studio realized it would be much wiser to push the release date as that is the same date as the new Dead or Alive game for the 3DS.

For PS3 and Xbox 360 owners of the first game, Arc has promised the game will be sort of given away as free DLC for the first game but with some changes and some stuff being separated as paid DLC.

Quote:

First off, we have the Continuum Shift II update that will be free of charge. This update will re-balance the entire roster to that of the arcade/handheld versions of Continuum Shift II, new challenge modes, new tutorials and it will fix some minor glitches and bugs.

There will also be another update but this one will come with a cost. This update comes in the form of a new character by the name of Platinum The Trinity (she's pictured above). This update will cost $7.99 or 560 MS points (I guess they're trying to make back some of the free CS II upgrade). This update will also include new achievements/Trophies for the character, as well as extend the story mode to include her plot line.
As of now the DLC update is expected to come around the same time as the 3DS and PSP game but it could be pushed back in order to let the handhelds generate some sales.

Update on the rumored Nintendo controller:

A source inside of Ubisoft is saying the current beta HD screen on the controller can show off 3D glasses-free stuff. Another source says the controller itself is much more accurate and stronger than the WiiMote Plus and PS Move. The screen does allow streaming from console to controller and could mimic how the Nintendo DS separates stuff with two screens.

EA, Activision, Ubisoft and other big studios have had the development kits as early as late 2010.

Emperor Smeat 04-18-2011 07:25 PM

Consider this as a bonus piece of news that has a lot of importance on the next Xbox and Playstation system being as expensive or even more expensive than when the Xbox 360 and PS3 launched.

DICE and Crytek want both Microsoft and Sony to add a lot more PC power and features to the next consoles with Crytek wanting something around 8GB as the minimum. Epic Games wants somewhere around 2-4 GB for their new engine.

Ubisoft and THQ also want new consoles and potentially higher prices for games.

Droford... fucking hell. The iphone is a fucking miniature computer. It's $600 because it can do a lot of shit. Yeah, it plays Angry Birds, but it's also got 132576324578623578 apps that do everything from word processing to GPS to turning your living room lights off from 1000 miles away. Touchscreens cost next to nothing. It's not a factor. If you were arguing about the extra tech inside that they'd need, you might have a point. All the stuff mentioned in the quote below my little spiel here makes me think we're looking at $40 to $50 controllers. And that's fair. PS3 and 360 controllers cost that and they don't have screens at all.

They can and that's what got THQ into so much trouble. Charging $60 (fucking $70 here in Canada) for a game that's not even good, let alone as good as titles like Halo: Reach, Red Dead Redemption or any other AAA title is ludicrous. Well, that and spending entirely too much money making Homefront as a Hail Mary effort and then botching it doesn't help either.

New games modes revealed for the upcoming Legend of Zelda 3DS game with Boss Challenge mode and a hint system mode being the recently revealed modes.

Boss Challenge mode is a series of boss fights done in a row similar to the Castlevania DS series but in this case the mode unlocks after a certain part of the game is finished instead of completely the whole game.

The hint system is expected to be something similar to Super Mario Galaxy 2 that gives hints on controls and for certain areas of the game. The hints are also in video form just like in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Activision explains they are well aware of the potential of Call of Duty series falling into the same decline and trap as the Guitar Hero series. At the same time, the studio has said they learned a lot from their mistakes with the GH series and spin-offs.

Activision feels the major difference involves the slower rise and growing fanbase in shooters compared to the sudden rush in populaity with the music genre with an unstable fanbase. They also realized unlike with Guitar Hero, CoD doesn't require $100+ instruments to be re-bought each game or need specific spin-offs to cater to the wide range of music fans.

Quote:

"If you really step back and dispassionately look at any measurement-sales, player engagement, hours of online play, performance of DLC-you can absolutely conclude that the potential for this franchise has never been greater," he said. "In order to achieve this potential, we need to focus: on making games that constantly raise the quality bar; on staying ahead of the innovation curve; on surrounding the brand with a suite of services and an online community that makes our fans never want to leave. Entertainment franchises with staying power are rare. But Call of Duty shows all of the signs of being able to be one of them. It's up to us."
This year Battlefield 3 will be the strongest challenger to the CoD series since 2008/2009 when Halo 3 was fighting off Call of Duty for #1 shooter.

PlayStation Network Down, Sony Says Service Could Be Out Up to Two Days

By Mike Sharkey | Apr 21, 2011 Hacker activist group Anonymous says it has nothing to do with outage.

What started as a sporadic outage last night has turned into a full-blown crash. Sony has confirmed PlayStation Network is down across the U.S. and Europe, and the company is currently investigating if the outage is being caused by an outside party.

Posting on the U.S. PlayStation Blog last night, Communications Director Patrick Seybold wrote that Sony was aware "certain functions" of PSN were down. Those certain functions are still down, and now the rest of the PlayStation 3's online network is as well.

"As you are no doubt aware, the current emergency outage is continuing this afternoon and all Sony Online Network services remain unavailable," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe PS blog manager James Gallagher posted today. "Our support teams are investigating the cause of the problem, including the possibility of targeted behavior by an outside party. If the reported Network problems are indeed caused by such acts, we would like to once again thank our customers who have borne the brunt of the attack through interrupted service."

Hacker activist group Anonymous appeared to pull back from its war on Sony after a protest it organized at Sony Stores around the world over the weekend fizzled. However, the group previously promised its biggest attack yet was still to come, and many immediately linked today's outage to Anon. However, writing on the Operation Sony Facebook page, Anonymous made it clear it is not behind the attack:

"ATTENTION: For everyone coming here complaining about the PSN or inquiring about it,

We Do Not Know What Happened

This is not the work of Anonymous."

Sony said its engineers are continuing to work to resolve the problems and updates will be provided throughout the day on PlayStation.com, the PlayStation blog, and the PlayStation twitter feed. Most recently, Seybold posted on the PlayStation blog at 12:30 p.m. EST that it "may be a full day or two before we're able to get the service completely back up and running."

A survey sent to Kotaku and other companies/websites hints at what the Star Wars Kinect game might include after being revealed last year at E3. Two hidden modes not mentioned at E3 but could be in the final game appear to be a Pod Racing mode and a mode where you control a monster.

Quote:

But there may be more to Kinect Star Wars than just lightsaber fights, according to details from a recent survey on the game forwarded to Kotaku. That survey—which was accompanied with storyboards for a planned commercial—touched on unannounced gameplay aspects, including a Pod Racing sequence that can be controlled by steering an imaginary wheel with one's hands.

More amusing than miming control of a Pod Racer is a game that appears to let players control a Rancor monster, stomping things beneath their feet while performing the same motion in front of a Kinect camera.
It also appears there will be a fighting mode locally involving Jedi vs Jedi matches although no info if the mode will be available online or if the other modes have online play as well.

Homefront campaign was dumb. Multiplayer is neat. Battlefieldesque. Might play more this weekend. Short sentences.

Buy one of those toy lightsabers and hold it while you play.

Kalyx triaD 04-22-2011 01:17 AM

I did once.

Without the Kinect or anything. It was badass, though.

Drakul 04-22-2011 01:22 AM

Well using it to play the Star Wars game is about as close as you'll get to actually being in Star Wars.

If it was badass without Kinect, surely it'll be better if you play the game while holding the lightsabre and have your swings kill Darth Vader or whoever.

Kalyx triaD 04-22-2011 01:26 AM

Still not totally sold on Kinect in regard to certain game types. Like... that Star Wars fake gameplay thing from way back... Just seemed strange to me.

Drakul 04-22-2011 04:18 AM

The only thing two things I'm concerned about with Kinect is that it could end up never getting the "hardcore" games it would be cool to use it for and the issue of controlling your character.

Here's a crazy idea. What if they had a controller nub ring? You put it on your middle finger of whichever hand you prefer and then use your thumb to slide the nub (think, the 3DS control nub) around.
It solves the control issue, you can still do punching motions etc. Best of both worlds.

Shigeru Miyamoto has no desire to reveal anything about the upcoming next Nintendo console after being barraged with interviews once leaks of the new console were revealed.

His current goal is to finish the current work on this year's Wii games and 3DS games. As of now his top priority is to finish Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword for the Wii and the new Mario game for the 3DS. Any hidden projects would be revealed at E3 like last year with Kirby's Epic Yarn.

He did however tell people to remain patient since information will be coming soon.

Quote:

"Don't ask!" the Mario creator told Edge. "Even when the Wii launched we were developing new hardware, work on 3DS had already started. It's a matter of when we announce it."

...

So when pressed on whether the new console will be shown at the E3 gaming expo in June, Miyamoto replied, "Please wait. Be patient until we decide."

A recent Gamestop internal memo states that Gamestop stores will be discounting selling new Nintendo DS Lites while cleaning out its current stock of DS Lites. Also found in the memo was the removal of all display units and advertising boxes for the Lite from stores.

Gamestop is still DS Lites for about $129.99 with trade-in value being around $25-$50 per system.

Online survery from EA hints at a possible subscription plan for EA online games, demos, and other goodies similar in style to other subscription based services.

EA's plan is to mimic Xbox Live Gold and Steam in service by giving away early access to demos for EA paid members, early downloading of games similar to Steam's pre-loading, and discounts for being paid members like PS+ does.

It also appears their progressive career saves in EA Sports games could become a paid feature instead of being a free incentive for people to keep buying EA sports games.

Quote:

EA Survey
"This subscription gives members access to exclusive benefits for Madden NFL, FIFA, NHL, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, SSX: Deadly Descents, and NCAA Football. While you're a member, this new subscription service will enhance your gaming experience by providing you with:
• Discounts on all downloadable content for participating EA Sports console-based titles.
• Full downloadable versions of aprticipating titles before they come out in stores.
• Exclusive membership recognition badge that appear both in-game and on your web profile.
• Ability to transfer paid content from your current participating titles to future title versions.
• Free and exclusive opportunities to extend your EA Sports experience to PC and Web
• Free and exclusive EA Sports downloadable content for participating console-based titles.
• Your subscription will be available for purchase from participating retailers, through the EA website, or on your console.
As of now, EA has tested this idea with their Tiger Woods PGA game by making the DLC add up to almost the cost of the game while being packed with extras to almost make its own full version.

Other companies such as Activision have in previous years hinted at making their own separate subscription service for their games but as of now it has only been done on a few MMO games that require their own servers.

#BROKEN Hasney 04-24-2011 02:48 AM

Why? I mean for all the reasons to hate on EA Sports, the optional subscription seems like the smallest reason.

Gonzo 04-24-2011 02:06 PM

I was being semi-sarcastic. I really don't play their games as is. Ever since they got the exclusive NFL license Madden has been more or less a glorified roster update.

Who has the best hockey games? I used to love NHL98 or whatever. I think that was the last one I played. And I think the latest one is on the 360 marketplace.

Fignuts 04-24-2011 05:11 PM

EA has the better hockey games, by a wide margin.

Portal 2 might be the last game Valve does that shows importance to single player after recent news of the studio considering switching the focus of their game development from solo to co-op and multiplayer focused games.

Quote:

"Portal 2 will probably be Valve's last game with an isolated single-player experience," Keighley wrote in ‘Final Hours’, "What this all means is something Newell is still trying to figure out." If this statement is to be taken at face value that means that Valve wants all of their games to support connected, multi-player gaming at all levels. This statement is according to Stephen Totilo over at Kotaku, who says he heard it from Geoff Keighley, who is working on a behind-the-scenes piece about Portal 2. Keighley says he heard it directly from Gabe Newell, Valve CEO himself and project manager Erik Johnson.
This wouldn't be a new experience for Valve since their last few games have relied on a co-op or multiplayer experience for gameplay such as the Left 4 Dead series and Team Fortress 2.

Valve would also be joining other developers who have switched their previously solo-focused series into multiplayer series as is the case with Bioshock, Uncharted, Dead Space, and Resident Evil.

As well as catering to the current preference of the gaming industry and gamers who want multiplayer or co-op in every game even if it isn't needed (ex. Dead Space 2).

This decision isn't expected to impact Half-Life 2 Episode 3 due to the series being a solo-campaign series but Valve could pull a Capcom and make Alyx Vance a playable character and make the game heavy in co-op gameplay similar to Resident Evil 5 with Sheva.

Yeah that's a brilliant idea remove single player from everything :|

Or do they mean that all future games will allow you to play the campaign mode multiplayer if you wish. (Like Fable III or Perfect Dark or Halo, or Gears), cause that's alright as long as I'm not saddled with a shitty AI controlled partner if I'm playing alone (if I'm playing alone I don't want a partner forced on me just for the sake of a multiplayer option)

But if we are talking about a future where all games require 2+ people, then that's just stupid

I think they're talking about main campaigns being multiplayer optional. Like in RE5 where you had a dumb bint of a sidekick in single-player mode (except Valve will probably get it right).

Think Left 4 Dead, except with more story and coherence to the main campaign.

I don't want every game to be shackled with some AI partner when I'm not playing co-op (which is almost always because I don't like playing co-op lol). If they do this it needs to be done mostly Fable III/Perfect Dark Style/Halo (where you can play co-op but your partner is some aforementioned side kick or sister :p), obvious exceptions would be games with well crafted sidekicks/partners but they shouldn't pigeonhole themselves into just making games with well crafted sidekicks.

In other words it would suck if all future Valve games have a sidekick character that is always there whether you are playing alone or not.

Emperor Smeat 04-26-2011 04:20 PM

Most likely it means something similar to Portal 2's co-op being the main preference over Portal's solo or like a Resident Evil 5/Left 4 Dead where the 2nd player is either AI controlled or human controlled. No more games like Half-Life 1 and 2 where it is only a single player game.

Portal 2 was designed with the preference on single player and then Valve added co-op ability without having to sacrifice the single player unlike the Halo series or other shooters where multiplayer was the preference during development (Halo 3 was about 5-10 people working on solo and 300+ working on multiplayer).

As I'm sure you know, the PlayStation Network has been down for nearly a week, and Sony today revealed the reason for the outage. There has been a security breach, and user information has been obtained by an unauthorized person.

Below please find our answers to questions you may have about what this means to you, the end user:

Whose information has been stolen?

Sony has not revealed how many of their estimated 70 million accounts have been compromised, so it's impossible to say. Shutting down the entire PlayStation Network suggests the security breach is large as opposed to small. Also, the company is sending out email to every account holder about the situation.

What information has been stolen?

According to Sony, your name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. Additionally, Sony advises that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

Wait, credit card information was stolen from the PSN as well?

Maybe. While Sony doesn't rule out the possibility that your credit card data (minus your 3-digit security code) has been stolen, they say that "there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken." Judging from how other companies have handled security breaches in the past, if your credit card information was stolen, I would expect Sony to send an email to inform you.

How can I tell if my information has been stolen?

There is no way of knowing for sure if you're among the people whose information has been compromised at this time, so the best thing to do is assume your information has been obtained by this "unauthorized person." Sony is sending an email to all registered account holders.

When did the intrusion take place?

Between April 17 and April 19, 2011

Can I change my PSN password now?

No. The PlayStation Network is offline. When it resumes operation, Sony recommends you change your password.

When will the PlayStation Network go back online?

Within seven days. According to Sony, "We have a clear path to have PlayStation Network and Qriocity systems back online, and expect to restore some services within a week."

What should I do now?

We've prepared a guide for what to do if you're a member of the PlayStation Network.

Will the PSN network have better security in the future?

I don't have a crystal ball, so I can't say for sure, but my best guess is "Yes."

Why did it take almost a week for Sony to inform the public of this leak?

Sony hasn't commented on this aspect of the security breach, so you're guess is as good as mine, but if you're asking, you're in good company. Senator Richard Blumenthal issued a statment today aimed at Sony saying he is “troubled by the failure” of Sony to “immediately notify affected customers of the breach and to extend adequate financial data security protections.”

Nintendo is giving away a free downloadable game for 3DS owners in the upcoming May firmware update for the handheld.

The goal by Nintendo is to get more users online than previous efforts with the DS and later the Wii by giving away more free incentives as part of the plan.

The game will be ExciteBike from the NES but with an added bonus of being redone to show off the 3D effects for NES games and potentially for Virtual Console/Virtual Boy games.

Quote:

The Nintendo Financial Results briefing notes say that a 3D Classics version of ExciteBike will come as a free download in a May 3DS firmware update. Nice! I love that game, I love free things, and I love the idea of my 3DS doing more. Nintendo says that this freebie is part of their effort to give users promotional activites to urge them to go online with the 3DS.

Playstation S1 & S2 Revealed:

Meet two new pieces of hardware by Sony; the S1 and S2. These tablets will play PS1 games as well as mobile style games (apps) presumably exclusive to the portable console. It's odd that Sony is entering this market, as their previous actions made me think they had no interest or respect for it, but here we are. They do look sexy, but tablets aren't my flavor.

Unless they've got the team behind Big Bang Mini on it, I doubt Southpeak will be capable of producing a TNA game that won't suck as much as everyone thinks it probably will.

They already developed and released the PSP version of TNA iMPACT in June last year.

To their credit, it was exactly the same as the original just with the PSP's dodgy loading times.

I had a look through their catalog of games and Big Bang Mini is the only one I'd actually call a good game. Everything else is either crap or meh at best.

Microsoft sent out mass warnings of a potential mass Phishing attack using CoD Modern Warfare 2 as the starting point.

Microsoft has put all of its web services and Xbox servers on alert with Matchmaking being the only service as of now given the"Service Alert" tag. Microsoft can only confirm the scheme is being done with Modern Warfare 2 but will not confirm if other games are being affected by the potential attack.

Quote:

"Users may experience difficulties with the following services:

Users may receive potential phishing attempts via title specific messaging while playing Modern Warfare 2.

We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience"
This news comes within the day of another report of Microsoft preparing a massive banning or counter-attack by unbanning all Xbox 360 consoles. Microsoft is trying to both find out where the source of the Phishing attack is coming from and to prevent any chance of Xbox Live coming under attack if the PSN hacking spreads to other places.

JTagged consoles are exempted from the unbanning as they are still given "auto-bans" when connected to Xbox Live.

More bad news for Sony concerning its PSN hacking attack and downtime as a few data-security firms have put as the early estimates of the attack, Sony's responses, and PSN downtime to a worst-case scenario of $23-$24 billion dollars once everything is done. The real value is expected to be much lower but could still reach a couple of billion of dollars lost.

Based on 2010 averages for data theft attacks, each PSN account has been valued as costing Sony $318. Sony also claims about 70 million accounts on PSN but only 1/3 to 50 million could be considered unique accounts.

Info and a trailer for the upcoming Need for Speed game was leaked today with EA probably playing a role in the leak. Going along with some details is the potential box art and a trailer meant to debut at E3.

The game will be called Need for Speed: The Run and gameplay-wise appears to be a return to a story-based campaign with less emphasis on sandbox style and more traditional course racing. Also leaked are the usual modes Need for Speed is known for such as single races and cop chase modes.

Quote:

Based on the first trailer for the game, it appears to be a story-focused, cross-country driving affair with players fleeing from the law—often the best part of Need For Speed video games. It appears that players will travel from San Francisco to New York, driving through Las Vegas and Denver along the way. This may be the next NFS title from EA's Black Box studio, as Criterion Games delivered last year's Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit and Slightly Mad Studios just released Shift 2: Unleashed.
The game is rumored for a November 18 release date but EA hasn't confirmed the dates nor what systems the game will be on.
