So far, I think the original FMA is way better.

Kalyx triaD 07-15-2011 09:43 PM

Jury's out for me.

Brotherhood is just truer to the manga.

I like what I've watched so far of Brotherhood, I just can't seem to stay up till 2:30 on Saturdays anymore to watch it...

FMA Bro-hoof starts better. I'm not sure which is the better overall series, because it doesn't take too long before they're kind of on equal footing, but FMA Bros Before Hos wold have hooked me a lot faster.

Jura 07-16-2011 10:42 PM

I really like the intro song.

Kalyx triaD 07-17-2011 01:59 AM

Yeah it's hype.

Jura 07-22-2011 10:08 PM

I just finished Brotherhood a couple of days ago and I will say the original is better still. Not way better like I stated before. I do like the addition of some of the characters that weren't in the previous anime and the story of the dwarf in the flask is more interesting than the original anime idea.

One thing that leaves me to desire is when they showed more of the world map on the final episode and I wish there was more information on all those other countries.

Jimmy Cones 03-04-2013 05:14 AM

I have a big date coming up. We are each picking out 3 episodes anime to watch at my place. I have decided that Avatar "the blind bandit" will be one of mine. Any suggestions on the other 2?

Drakul 03-04-2013 05:39 AM

I would suggest some put I only like something like 3 animes. Urusei Yatsura? :?:

Kalyx triaD 03-04-2013 08:00 AM

Avatar 'Air Bender' Avatar? That's just barely anime.

It's a date, so run with Inuyasha, The Big O, or FLCL. Something that has male and female leads bickering.

Destor 03-04-2013 08:29 AM

how long until this becomes the Hentai thread?

Dark-Slicer Diago 03-04-2013 08:30 AM

I honestly hope not because that would be just plain wrong.

Destor 03-04-2013 08:41 AM

it's only matter of time... :-\

Destor 03-04-2013 08:42 AM

anime post: Eden of the East is tops. check it out.

Kalyx triaD 03-04-2013 08:45 AM

This thread is old and woefully under used. The premise still works, though.

Just watched half of the first episode, I don't think I could get into this.

Fignuts 03-05-2013 03:22 AM

Grave of the Fireflys is a great film to put you in the mood.

Fignuts 03-05-2013 03:23 AM

I thought it was great. I also like Dragon Half and Armitage III. Armitage III is the only one not a comedy.

Cool theme too:

Would have been even cooler without 1:55 to 2:02.

That's all I can suggest because that's all I know.

Agreed. Doesn't need to be spammed up with a lot of nothing, and I can look back on it occasionally for ideas of other things to watch in lull periods when I'm not into something at the moment...

... and I misread that as "wonderfully under used". I guess I don't quite agree with you.

Kalyx triaD 03-08-2013 01:00 AM

On what?

Tom Guycott 03-10-2013 12:09 AM

I like the fact that it's underused, so I disagree with the "woefully" part. As I said, I initially read that as "wonderfully under used", and was agreeing with that. Not cluttered with a bunch of BS posts of people suggesting things that aren't even in the same zip code as anime, or trying to troll for 3 pages on how the live action Dragon Ball was quality scinema that in no way raped the franchise.

This thread is kind of like a time capsule. Disappears for awhile, then someone bumps it and joy is had by all those that forgot about it and go "ah, yeah!"

Optimus Bone 69 03-24-2013 05:29 PM

Anyone recommend what i could get for my 10 year old, as i know some of it is cartoon porn

Kalyx triaD 03-24-2013 05:35 PM

Jap kids are more advanced than ours, so their kids shows are often marketed as teen shows for us. Basically find some pre-school stuff, though those animes rarely get licensed for the states. A lot of 'gotta be the best'-type anime's seem alright for younger kids, boys in particular. I can't recall any titles, though.

Optimus Bone 69 03-31-2013 12:11 PM

Cheers

Sixx 03-31-2013 12:47 PM

I've actually watched some anime recently.

Deathnote. I liked it, then it started getting ridiculous.

Kalyx triaD 03-31-2013 03:15 PM

So a new DBZ movie is coming out.

Drakul 03-31-2013 05:10 PM

An anime film or a live action one? I saw the live action one with and friend (neither of us are DBZ fans) and we both thought it sucked. I think I thought it sucked slightly less, but still.

The one guy I knew who likes DBZ said he loved it. So many it's something only fans like.

Kalyx triaD 04-01-2013 01:03 AM

Anime.

And that movie was not good for fans.

Fignuts 04-01-2013 01:43 AM

I like the stand alone DBZ movies a lot more than the series.

And yeah the live action one is shit.

Fignuts 04-01-2013 01:45 AM

Although they did come out with a new, albeit short animated flick a few years ago that was also pretty terrible.

Bad News Gertner 04-01-2013 01:49 AM

Guillermo Del Toro is gonna bring "Monster" to the small screen and make it a series on HBO.

Dunno how he pulled that off with network brass, but call me intrigued.

http://tv.yahoo.com/news/guillermo-d...222409266.html

Raven Reaper 04-25-2013 07:22 AM

Flame of Recca, aside from Sailor Moon and Wedding Peach which is a rip-off Sailor Moon. Or how about Akazukin Cha-Cha? She's like red riding Hood anime then transforms into Sailor Moon-ish archer.

Fignuts 05-05-2013 03:13 AM

Gundam Unicorn is freaking fantastic. The animation is gorgeous. Battles look incredible, and the audio is amazing. The sound effects are thunderous, and really give "weight" to the mechs better than any other gundam series. You get a real appreciation that these are 20+ meter steel machines of death battling it out.
Soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard for anything, anime or live action.

Still has the typical over the top Gundam melodrama, but I don't mind as much because most of the characters are likeable and endearing. And also because the voice acting is stellar. Not often that I prefer a dub to subtitled, but this is a rare case of the exceptional dub.

Only problem is that you have to slog through Original Gundam, Zeta Gundam, and Char's Counterattack to get a good understanding of the backstory, and the motivations of all the different factions. Though they've condensed the two tv series into movie trilogies. I haven't seen them, but I'd bet the stories hold up better as movies rather than long drawn out tv series.

6 episodes so far and the last will be out spring 2014.

Tom Guycott 06-23-2013 11:27 PM

Finally got around to watching Attack on Titan. Good stuff, but I don't quite see it as "the next big thing"; that people are treating it as if it's going to take the world by storm like DBZ or Pokemon seems a bit of a stretch.

Ermaximus 06-30-2013 09:59 AM

Read the manga Guycott. It's pretty intense. I started it recently now that Gantz has one chapter left to go.

parkmania 07-31-2013 02:28 PM

If anyone is considering buying the new Robotech release "Love Live Alive", DON'T!

It's only available packaged with another release of Shadow Chronicles.

It's 84 minutes + credits. 74ish of those minutes are a retelling of the New Generation storyline (aka Genesis Climber Mospeada) with 98% of that the original footage. 6 minutes are music videos with new versions of "We Will Win" and "Lonely Soldier Boy". The other 2 minutes are new footage that appears at the very end of the movie.

Fignuts 08-09-2013 03:00 AM

Fucking can't find new manga scans of bleach anywhere. On the final arc, and its getting pretty good, but I guess they cracked down on online reading sites.

Must be just the bleach guys and not shonen jump!, cause new issues of naruto and one piece still are going up every week.

Nark Order 08-09-2013 03:07 AM

Got hooked on Mushi-Shi. Probably going to take some of the recommendations in this thread after I finish the series. FMA seems like a next logical step.

Fignuts 09-01-2013 03:08 AM

I think I enjoy Dragonball Z abridged now, more than I ever enjoyed Dragonball Z as a kid.

Sepholio 09-04-2013 04:28 PM

But Dragonball AF is totally real and way better than all that shit. I mean have you seen Super Saiyan 5 Goku!?!?! like zomg wut

Sepholio 09-04-2013 04:28 PM

Sorry, that came straight from like 10 years ago when I still thought they would make another series.

I was so angry when they announced the anime adaptation was ending. Either way, plan on reading the final arc once it is all said and done.

Fignuts 09-04-2013 04:33 PM

So they aren't animating the last arc?

Its also great to know that various voice actors are fans of it as well. That, and its actually consistently well done and has PLENTY of source material to lampoon, in both plot and minor details (like that bit about drinking Hetap, or when Roshi kept changing what he was sipping on until it became beer).

For the record, I was always a bigger fan of DB than Z, so Abridged oddly seems more natural to me.

Lock Jaw 09-04-2013 05:48 PM

I just looked up this Dragonball Z Abridged thing and am now "laughing my ass off".

Emperor Smeat 09-04-2013 06:02 PM

The fan series is pretty great. Think the running gag involving Krillian and an "owned" counter might be my favorite thing from the series.

I think they will animate the last arc but not until it's finished so as to avoid another filler interruption.

Fignuts 09-05-2013 08:23 PM

What sites still carry bleach and naruto manga?

Dark-Slicer Diago 09-06-2013 07:43 AM

My friend uses mangatraders, I haven't read the latest yet since I just use youtube for it but my friend said that Kubo is saying that there is only going to be 1 more volume left for Bleach.

Dark-Slicer Diago 09-07-2013 03:02 PM

Sorry, I meant that he uses mangastream, it was mangatraders but they were the ones that got a CND order on Bleach and Naruto.

Vietnamese Crippler 09-07-2013 04:11 PM

www.mangadoom.com

I've been using this for Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece.

Fignuts 09-07-2013 09:53 PM

Thanks

Honestly, Bleach is the only one I really care about. Never got into One Piece, and Narutos been kinda shitty for quite a while IMO.

Fignuts 09-07-2013 09:56 PM

Stopped watching the naruto anime a long time ago, because the flashbacks occurred at an absurd frequency. Only actually watched the end of part one once, but I feel like I've seen the naruto vs sasuke fight literally a hundred times.

Lock Jaw 09-07-2013 09:57 PM

Those are the three mangas I used to read back when I used to read mangas. Stopped a long time ago, though. Bleach is ending soon, though? Thank goodness. From my very limited knowledge on the subject, these things tend to suffer the longer they go.

Might have to check out Bleach. Though if I recall, I was already not too crazy about the direction it was going in when I stopped. Stopped around sometime after they finished that story arc where they went to heaven or something.

Lock Jaw 09-07-2013 09:58 PM

Stopped reading Naruto shortly after the time jump, and stopped reading One Piece after they got that new crew member who built them a new ship.

Fignuts 09-08-2013 12:45 AM

Outside of the last arc, bleach has been pretty damn enjoyable. Post time jump naruto was enjoyable at first, but it starts to slip after the pain arc.

Tom Guycott 09-08-2013 12:49 AM

I think the current fight with Madara has been pretty enjoyable.

Fignuts 09-08-2013 07:52 PM

The whole ninja war thing started out alright, but I feel like there's been more and more contrived nonsensical shit happening.

It's not been all bad, but I'm just not feeling it.

Vietnamese Crippler 09-08-2013 09:57 PM

I'll agree the fighting parts have been pretty routine (e.g. bad guy gets strong, good guy gets stronger - wash, rinse, and repeat), but the actual story elements have been good like
SPOILER: show
Tobi actually being Obito and Orochimaru bringing back the Hokages so they can explain the history of the village

Fignuts 09-09-2013 11:27 PM

Had no idea about that Bardock movie that came out a couple years ago.

Was okay I guess. dbz plot is always absurd, but this one pretty much takes the cake. Also, Christ almighty were those aliens horribly designed. Looked like a 4 year olds doodles.

Sepholio 09-09-2013 11:35 PM

Yeah and it came with an updated version of "Plan to eradicate the super saiyans" or something.

Sepholio 09-10-2013 12:32 AM

They also released a movie a few months ago in theatres in Japan called Dragon Ball: Battle of Gods that is considered actual canon in the story and takes place in the empty time after the defeat of Majin Buu.

LoDownM 09-13-2013 04:20 PM

If you aren't watching RWBY, you should be.

Fignuts 09-13-2013 05:21 PM

I don't know what that is, but apparently it's made by Monty Oum, so I'm sold.

Sepholio 09-26-2013 06:39 PM

Watching subtitled DBZ: Battle of the Gods right now. Totally getting wood.

Sepholio 09-26-2013 07:05 PM

Drakul 11-17-2013 02:31 AM

Anyone interested in watching free anime, there is a new app on the 360 called Viki. It lets you watch tv from around the world including classic stuff like Popeye as well as 28 different animes and growing. All of these are free for some reason.

Kalyx triaD 11-17-2013 05:09 AM

I watch free TV regardless.

Impeccable 01-07-2014 05:07 PM

Been getting into anime and manga more recently.

Watched the entire series of Fullmetal Alchemist. I prefer the subbed to dubbed if I am honest. Reading the manga now to see where the stories arc off each other.

Reading one piece from the beginning now.

Anyone seen or read blue exorcist. That is quite good.

Attack on Titan I can highly highly recommend to everyone. The anime is amazing.

Kalyx triaD 01-07-2014 06:03 PM

I have not got into Titan yet. Been hearing so much, need to see if a dub is out. Also gonna check out Kill la Kill, because I like zany 'power up' hype shit.

I hate subs, I need English vocals with anime. I can only stand subs when it's live-action Jap films.

Fignuts 01-08-2014 02:00 AM

Barring dubs that are really exceptional, I pretty much always go with subs. Just looks and sounds more natural to me.

Exactly. It just feels less forced than some of the really cheesy dubs.

parkmania 01-08-2014 08:42 PM

If you want a cheesy dub, you should check out the Transformers series Headmasters, Super-God Masterforce, and Victory.

Kalyx triaD 01-08-2014 08:48 PM

There is no such thing as good Transformers anime.

The post-G1 Trilogy
Robots in Disguise
The Unicron Trilogy

...All garbage.

Shadow 01-09-2014 01:57 PM

Your words hurt sir and I demand you meet me on the field of battle this day.

Kalyx triaD 01-09-2014 02:25 PM

Come, bring with you your arms and effects, that I may bury them with you.

parkmania 01-09-2014 07:37 PM

Wasn't saying that RiD, Armada, Energon, and Cybertron weren't all the worst kind of drek - just that the post-G1 trilogy had some of the WORST dubbing this side of Edgar Bergen and Charlie.

Kalyx triaD 01-09-2014 08:54 PM

And I'm saying the attempts at TF anime since didn't get much better.

Fignuts 01-09-2014 11:08 PM

So it's been confirmed that Naruto is ending in 2014. Was hoping for a part III where Naruto and friends are adults, but oh well.

When the decision to "Kiddie-ize" the franchise was made, that pretty much sealed the deal. Compare those (and while we're at it, TF Animated) with Prime, which was aimed at a slightly older demographic.

I dare say that both CGI series (Prime and Beast Wars/Machines) were the best series in franchise history. BW stories hold up MUCH better as a whole than even G1.

Kalyx triaD 01-10-2014 11:23 AM

Well every iteration is to sell toys. BW and Prime being more story based and mature are the deviations (I happen to enjoy Animated, though, better story than... meets the eye).

parkmania 01-10-2014 05:56 PM

If Animated didn't have Sorry (er, I mean Sari) I'd be a lot more willing to watch it. She's more annoying IMHO than all three of the Unicron Trilogy kids combined.

Kalyx triaD 01-10-2014 09:18 PM

The kid-avatar is required but yeah she could have been a bit more... missing, I guess.

I do love how the girl in Prime was made to troll the kid-sidekick detractors.

Gonna get started on that Titan anime, subs and all. Gonna get back into anime in general. Been a while.

Fignuts 02-01-2014 01:52 AM

Yeah, need to make time for Titan.

Also looking to get all the Ghost in the Shell stuff on DVD. The original movie is my favorite anime, and one of my favorite movies in general, so I really wanna see the Stand Alone Complex stuff.

Need to find the original version of the movie though, not the 2.0 one with all that horrible looking CG crap.

Kalyx triaD 02-01-2014 01:57 AM

SAC has a kick-ass macro arc, but 2nd GIG's one-shot episodes makes me hard.

Fignuts 02-01-2014 02:20 AM

Yeah heard the one shots are just as good as the overarching story.

There is also Arise, but since that's a reboot, I'm not as interested.
