Id say ECW and Smackdown will either be tribute shows/clips with more guys talking about their Benoit memories.

CYCLOPTERSAURUS 06-25-2007 10:33 PM

This is really hard to believe, and it's not really sinking in yet. Benoit was one of the few wrestlers that kept me interested, along with Eddie, Jericho, and some others. When I first started watching wrestling, Benoit was one of the few people in WCW that I wanted to watch, and when he jumped ship with the Radicals, it was one of the biggest markout moments in wrestling for me. When he won the title at WM and celebrated with Eddie it was probably THE biggest markout moment in wrestling for me. He put on some of the best matches ever. His family too? it's insane. I'm not sure I want to know what happened. Somehow this doesn't feel real, even less real than with Eddie.

I will say that as crazy as Vince is, he's handled this really well. I was worried he wouldn't even be on the show and they would keep the death angle running.

Pro wrestler, family found dead in Fayetteville home

By Saeed Ahmed, Kathy Jefcoats

Published on: 06/25/07

A well-known professional wrestler and his family were found dead inside their house in Fayette County Monday afternoon.

Authorities confirmed that Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and their 7-year-old son, Daniel, were found dead at the home on Quarters and Redwine roads in Fayetteville about 4 p.m.

Officials were investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.

Benoit, a 40-year-old Canadian native maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the now-defunct World Championship Wrestling.

Most recently, Benoit fought as part of the World Wrestling Entertainment organization. WWE canceled its live show in Corpus Christi Monday night, and its broadcast of "Raw" on the USA Network was a three-hour retrospective on Benoit's career.

"Obviously, all sorts of speculation are running rampant but I have talked to so many people and nobody really knows [whether the couple was having marital troubles]," said Bryan Alvarez, who runs Figurefour Weekly, a wrestling newsletter and Web site, from Linwood, Washington.

Benoit was scheduled to appear in a pay-per-view title match Sunday night, but was a no-show due to a "family emergency," the WWE said during the broadcast.

Benoit's wife, Nancy, managed several wrestlers and went by the stage name, "Woman."

They met when her then-husband drew up a script that had them involved in a relationship as part of an ongoing storyline on World Championship Wrestling.

Soon after, the two became romantically involved in real life and married, Alvarez said.

Benoit has two other children from a prior relationship.

Reavant 06-25-2007 10:33 PM

is there any reports on what happened?....were the deaths violent? I know that carbon monoxide poisoning can wipe out an entire family in a house, but I dont think it makes you cough up blood.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 10:34 PM

Yeah I mean his wife and young son died as well, and he has 2 other kids and his parents and sister. Has WWE ever canceled an event like this other than 9/11?

Corkscrewed 06-25-2007 10:35 PM

oly shit...

I hope this is just speculation even on the news side, but...

If anyone has a live feed for RAW, it would be appreciated.

I'm in the U.K. at the moment and don't even know where to find it on the television.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 10:35 PM

Nope, I have read that you dont cough up blood from CO2 its known as the silent killer.

I find it chilling that when their is an active roster death. (Pillman, Owen, Eddie, Benoit) that it happens on Sunday or Monday.

i know certain types of mold can cause reactions like coughing up blood and so can the poison that termites emit from their bodies when they are in large amounts living in the wall of a home.

I did think of that earlier. However, nobody knows when the Benoits died, could have been Saturday. Just saying.

It always seems to be on the day of a PPV or TV taping.

Reavant 06-25-2007 10:40 PM

also he might have just killed himself after either finding his wife and child dead or after they died from the illness

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 10:40 PM

I recommend every1 that dont own it to buy Benoits DVD. Wal-Mart has it for only 5-6 bucks now I believe. Its an incredible doc with some amazing matches on it. I am still stunned over this and it will take me quite a while to get over this and I will never forget Benoit.

Londoner 06-25-2007 10:40 PM

How weird, an advert for a game just said ' the nightmare just got real'..freaky.

Linkbowler 06-25-2007 10:42 PM

This is just wrong. One of the greatest of all time is no longer here.

Man. This sucks.

RIP Benoit.

ClockShot 06-25-2007 10:42 PM

Gas leak could do it.

Also. ESPN and most news channels and sites have caught on to this.

Evil Vito 06-25-2007 10:44 PM

<font color=goldenrod>I really, truly, can't believe this. :(

His victory at WM20 will always be one of my top moments ever of watching wrestling.

You will be missed, Chris Benoit. My condolences go out to the remaining members of the Benoit family.</font> :(

The Naitch 06-25-2007 10:44 PM

wow this is how I heard of the news:

I was walking home from the liquor store, with some new shades on, drinking a beer, then my friend (who thinks wrestling is gay, and he makes fun of me for liking wrestling) texts me to call him. I call him and then he asks me if I knew a wrestler names Chris Veno. Obviously he meant 'Benoit' and I corrected him. He said he was shot dead

I was a bit buzzed walking home and I still can't believe this has happened

Then I go on the computer and found out that there were no gunshots and his wife and son are also dead. Wow. This is just as big as Owen's death because of the speculation and mystery

Biggest wrestling headline of 2007

RIP Chris Benoit :(

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 10:44 PM

Benoit def is a 08 HOF

owenbrown 06-25-2007 10:46 PM

The Journal-Constitution maybe reporting a possible murder-suicide... but WXIA and WAGA-TV are saying police are investigating as a homicide... so right now we don't know which is true.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 10:46 PM

Yeah, it def is the biggest headline of 07, a tragic year for wrestling deaths. (Benoit, Sherri, Ladd, Bad News, Biff, Bam Bam, Awesome, etc) and the year is only half over.

The Naitch 06-25-2007 10:48 PM

this is fucking crazy

I hope to the higher power that it was a homicide and not a murder-suicide because that would mean that Benoit could've killed Nacy and his son.

And there is no way hell Benoit would do such a thing.

FourFifty 06-25-2007 10:50 PM

Chris Benoit was the wrestler that every wrestling fan liked. He could make anyone look like a million dollars. He was the bench mark that told you if the wrestler he was facing that night was any good or not. He could go hold for hold with the best of them. No, I'm not just saying that because he's no longer with us. I've been saying this for at least three years now.

Wathing Raw right now... He made JBL look like a great wrestler, he went hold for hold with Malenko, he made a rookie Burke look like a threat, and all in all one of the best mat wrestlers.

Rest in peace Chris, Nancy, and Daniel.... :wavesad:

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 10:50 PM

. Tommy Pope told the Associated Press that it was being investigated as a homicide pending results of a preliminary autopsy report that will come out tomorrow. No gunshot or stab wounds were found, but they couldn't rule out poisoning, suffocation or strangulation. Pope said he was not confirming any of these potential causes, just not ruling them out.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 10:52 PM

Never seen that Hog Wild match before and I loved it, I am suprised it wasnt on Benoits DVD.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 10:54 PM

Its one of Yahoos top headlines right now

ClockShot 06-25-2007 10:55 PM

Conflicting reports are going around right now. This one sent a shiver down my spine.

Pro wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and 7-year-old son were found slain Monday at their Fayetteville home, authorities said.

Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being investigated as a murder-suicide, but said that could not be confirmed until the evidence was examined by a crime lab.

WAGA reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend, and then himself sometime Monday.

A concerned neighbor called police. The bodies were found in three different rooms.

The lead investigator, Sheriff's Lt. Tommy Pope, told The Associated Press that the deaths were being investigated as homicide, and said the cause of death awaited autopsy results on Tuesday.

Pope said the three were found about 2:30 p.m., but he would release no other details about the deaths at the house in a subdivision near White Water Country Club.

World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that Benoit, 40, his wife, Nancy, and son, who was named Daniel, were found dead, but also had no other details.

From foxnews.com

Xero 06-25-2007 10:55 PM

According to ABC "the instruments of death were located on scene," so I guess they have a general idea of what happened.

NeanderCarl 06-25-2007 10:57 PM

shit!

NeanderCarl 06-25-2007 10:58 PM

why would he do that?? i know it's only speculation, but what motive would he have?

Londoner 06-25-2007 10:58 PM

Torn while watching this.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 10:59 PM

Was Benoit supposed to win the ECW title Sunday?

Bad Company 06-25-2007 11:02 PM

I'm shocked, a real loss for pro wrestling. RIP Benoit and Family.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:03 PM

Yeah if it is a homicide and Benoit did it. This will def be one of top news stories out there for a while on what happened?

NeanderCarl 06-25-2007 11:04 PM

WWE.com is confirming the double-murder/suicide report.

ShakeZula 06-25-2007 11:05 PM

Benoit did it...

www.wwe.com

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:05 PM

Never in a a zillion years thought something like this would happen to a guy like Benoit

Dorkchop 06-25-2007 11:05 PM

I know there's a chance that it happened, but it's hard to believe a guy like Benoit would do something like that.... based on what people have said about him. Not just not, but well before he died. He seemed like a quiet, decent, human being. He's so well respected.

Xero 06-25-2007 11:05 PM

Wow, if Benoit did it then I don't know what to think.

NeanderCarl 06-25-2007 11:06 PM

I know it's hard to believe, and tough to take in, but it looks as though Benoit may have killed his wife and child. That's going to put him in an entirely different light.

Of course, you can't rule out Nancy as the killer.

But most news outlets are running with the double-murder/suicide right now.

311 06-25-2007 11:06 PM

I am having a 'really' hard time believing that.

I'm even more ill than before.

IC Champion 06-25-2007 11:06 PM

I can't see it being Benoit who did it.

ClockShot 06-25-2007 11:07 PM

Well gentlemen. I've enjoyed your company on this. I'm off to bed. I trust you try not to lose any sleep over this. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

But as of right now. I wouldn't believe anything that's working it's way around the net. Keep and open mind and hope the worse hasn't happened.

Have a good night everyone.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:09 PM

even more stunned on how its happened.

Londoner 06-25-2007 11:11 PM

No way has Benoit done that, why would he???

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:11 PM

Yeah if its reported that Benoit did it then you will see all kinds of shows wondering why, espically after he was loved by every1 and a big family man.

lort 06-25-2007 11:13 PM

Woah. I'm having a real hard time swallowing that it could have been Benoit. That doesn't add up to, doesn't make sense from anything I know about the guy especially from what people have been saying today.

Leave it to Fox news to jump to conclusions.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:14 PM

I agree with 311, I feel not only shocked but totally ill

IC Champion 06-25-2007 11:15 PM

I don't see it being Benoit, Maybe his wife had some phsycological issues, or something like that. There's definetly something behind this.

The Naitch 06-25-2007 11:17 PM

WOW

this is unreal right now

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:17 PM

Benoit said this on his DVD when talking about breaking Sabus neck

'' I would rather hurt myself than someone else''

ShakeZula 06-25-2007 11:17 PM

Seems odd WWE.com wouldn't put anything about a double murder suicide up until after the tribute show was over...

Oh ya, and CNN and MSNBC say now investegators say Benoit did it...

The Naitch 06-25-2007 11:19 PM

He did it

for The Rock

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:20 PM

If Benoit did it, def the most tragic and shocking news story in wrestling maybe ever.

PapaGeorgio 06-25-2007 11:21 PM

note according to wiki

Fayette County, Georgia police are investigating Benoit's house following the discovery of the bodies. Lieutenant Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department reported to ABC News that it was being investigated as a "possible double murder-suicide". I'm not sure if anyone else has been refreshing the testimonials section of WWE.com, but, they pulled Stephanie and Dean's videos for about fifteen minutes. Really strange, but now they're back up.

I don't know what to think or say.

It's not our place to speculate on what has happened and I think if you have any respect for Benoit at all you will all just leave the speculation to the side for now.

Benoit has been scrutinised personally and professionally by the wrestling community for fifteen long years now and never once has there been a doubt about his character. He has always been a truly great man and one to look up to.

I am not going to let the events of one day and the ramblings of some idiots at Fox News change this.

I will always admire and respect Chris Benoit.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:24 PM

This will get some big-time publicity

Yeah, it's very rare that you see someone and think "He's going to kill his wifew or himself"

I don't know what to believe right now though, so I'm not even trying. I'll wait for some more info.

311 06-25-2007 11:35 PM

I think Edge pretty much summed it up when he said,

"I just don't understand things I like, and I don't think I ever will."

Triple A 06-25-2007 11:37 PM

Wowwwwww

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:38 PM

If it does become true. You def wonder why. I also wish that he had talked to some1 about problems if he had any to work them out, anything that could have prevented this.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:39 PM

Yeah, that was a great quote that Edge gave there.

PapaGeorgio 06-25-2007 11:40 PM

It's just crazy, was pretty sad about this all. I mean I still am but a bunch of other emotions entered the mix too. Like the fact that he (possibly she but most like he) killed his own son. Also, doesn't Benoit have like 2 other kids. So they both lost their parents and brother, which I don't think any of us can really imagine what it feels like. Benoit was one of my favorite wrestlers, but I dunno if he did do it I could never respect a man like that. As KK said, got to just wait for more info before I get to caught up.

I am just speculating here, but does any1 think he was fustrated with the way his wrestling career was going? He was supposed to get a big push on RAW but it was shot down because some felt he wasnt Main Event material and he was sent to ECW.

SammyG 06-25-2007 11:43 PM

Unreal. Just simply unbelievable. So Benoit did it... but then again there's the chance that Nancy did. Fucking ridiculous. God Damnit I cant believe this. Terrible news.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:43 PM

Yeah, Benoit had 2 other kids, plus both his parents are alive and he has a sister as well.

Mercury Bullet 06-25-2007 11:44 PM

First, I just dont know what to think. I really hope he didn't do this to his family, I hope his wife didn't either. I mean, I find it strange there was no prior evidence or belief that something like this would happen and NOBODY knew. If this really was a murder suicide situation, I would think somebody would have at least had a feeling of it first. Like, "Yeh, I know him and his wife were really going through some hard times." Anything suggesting conflict, but there is nothing. Its just toally random. I'm at a total loss in every way. I'm saddened that he's gone, sad that his family is gone, and confused over all the circumstances surrounding the situation.

IC Champion 06-25-2007 11:45 PM

I highly doubt Benoit did it.

Mercury Bullet 06-25-2007 11:45 PM

Edge's quote there was great and if I gained anything from this it was a little more respect for him.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:47 PM

One of my best friends fav wrestler was Benoit, I wonder how he feels right now, Hes on vacation so I have to wait to talk to him

PapaGeorgio 06-25-2007 11:47 PM

Reminds me of Phil Hartman murder suicide, but little worse with kid involved.

Mercury Bullet 06-25-2007 11:48 PM

I hope he didn't, I hope more than anything he didn't, but (and this isn't always the best reasoning) history suggests that he did.

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:49 PM

Yeah I have gained back some respect for Edge that I had lost when he cheated on his wife with one of his best friends GF.

Corkscrewed 06-25-2007 11:49 PM

WWE.com is the only one who's reporting that it's been ruled a double murder-suicide.

Everywhere else I've read has only said that it's being investigated as a double murder-suicide.

I really hope it wasn't. It would definitely change the way we look at Benoit. The way anyone looks at Benoit.

It's just that the AP and the Atlanta Journal-Constitutional have some pretty grim reports.

http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/met...625benoit.html

Pro wrestler, family found dead in Fayetteville home
By Saeed Ahmed, Kathy Jefcoats
The Atlanta-Journal Constitution
Published on: 06/25/07

In its ongoing attempt to constantly outdo itself, the World Wrestling Entertainment recently staged the "death" of its chairman in an apparent limo explosion.

Monday night, the largest wrestling organization in the world grappled with a real-life murder mystery: What led to the apparent murder-suicide of superstar wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and child inside their expansive Fayetteville home?

Officials have not disclosed how the family died, other than to say the deaths did not involve a gun.

"The details, when they come out," said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard, "are going to prove a little bizarre."

Deputies checking on the family at the behest of Benoit's employer discovered the bodies of the 40-year-old wrestler, his wife, Nancy Benoit, 43, and their 7-year-old son, Daniel, on Monday afternoon at their home on Green Meadow Lane.

Benoit, a Canada native, maintained a residence in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the now-defunct Ted Turner-owned World Championship Wrestling organization.

Most recently, Benoit performed as part of World Wrestling Entertainment. He was scheduled to appear in a pay-per-view title match Sunday night, but was a no-show because of a "family emergency," the WWE said during the broadcast.

His employers, apparently worried, asked deputies to check in on the family, leading to the discovery, said Sheriff's Lt. Tommy Pope.
Murders are rare in Fayette County, particularly so in areas like Green Meadow Lane, a rural stretch of the county where multi-acre mansion-style homes dot the landscape. In 2006, the sheriff's office didn't investigate a single murder.

Fans tried to cope with the news Monday evening as the blogosphere erupted in reader disbelief.
"Obviously, all sorts of speculation are running rampant but I have talked to so many people and nobody really knows," said Bryan Alvarez, who runs Figurefour Weekly, a wrestling newsletter and Web site, from Linwood, Wash.

Benoit began his career in Calgary more than 20 years ago. He wrestled in Japan before moving back to North America.

While working in Atlanta with WCW, he met his wife, Nancy, who managed several wrestlers and went by the stage name, "Woman."

At the time, her then-husband drew up a script that had the couple involved in a relationship as part of an ongoing storyline.

Soon after, the two became romantically involved in real life and married. Benoit has two other children from a prior relationship.

He joined WWE in 2000, and four years later, won its world heavyweight championship.

The family had moved into the Fayetteville neighborhood last summer, said neighbor Alaina Jones.

None of the neighbors recalled seeing police at the house before. Monday night, about half a dozen cars idled on the circular driveway. Deputies stood guard outside the wrought-iron gates of the residence. A car full of youngsters who stopped to gawk at the scene were pulled out by deputies, frisked and sent on their way.

The Monday night broadcast of WWE's "Raw" on the USA Network was supposed to have been a who-dunit into the "death" of Chairman Vince McMohan, whose limousine burst into a fiery explosion moments after he stepped into it after a bout in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., two weeks ago.
The organization scrapped the storyline following Benoit's death, and instead televised a three-hour retrospective on Benoit's career.
And unlike the two-page, hyperbole-filled news release it sent out after its chairman's "death," the statement announcing Benoit's real-life passing was curt and matter-of-fact:
"Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home. There are no further details at this time."

If it did turn out Benoit killed his wife and son (it would have HAD to have been a crime of passion... i.e. he just went crazy), that would be one heel turn for the ages...

I'd hate to think he did it as well, but I must trust the investigators of the case before my own markish reaction.

This is seriously fucked up.

Shaggy 06-25-2007 11:49 PM

I refuse to believe that Benoit could do such a thing. God I cant even go to sleep tonight.

Yeah similar to Hartman, only that one of his children died as well though while Hartmans 2 kids were unhurt

mrslackalack 06-25-2007 11:52 PM

Yeah it would be a Heel turn for the ages and enternty

After hearing how much Benoit cared for his kids from the other wrestlers...its hard for me to really believe the he would murder his own son. I refuse to believe that he did it cause it would crush me more than anything. Ive looked up to Benoit and this would hurt me more than anything has in a very long while.

yea I feel the same way
