What's the funniest thing you have seen in wrestling?
Dale will back me up on this :Kal Rudman and Dick Graham doing commentary on old Philadelphia Spectrum house shows. The WWF used to show Philly house shows on the PRISM Network. Similar to the MSG shows airing on the MSG Network. Anyways, Dick Graham was a Prism employee so they had to use him. Kal was a music industry mogul who somehow got put on commentary between 1980 to the fall of 1982.
They are a riot. |
I tried watching Prism earlier. It was unusually bad quality and I got fidgety very quickly.

Yeah pretty much all my copies are great quality and I pretty much have every show from that time period.
Also, this promo kills me everytime
Oh and the Vince/Kurt/Austin skits

I think Bob Backlund was in it. It was at 240p. I will give PRISM another shot tonight, I may be confused with the plethora of old wrestling shows available on the tube. |
Backlund ruins everything

Imagine if Austin and Kurt were both pre-neckbreak at the time. They'd have become the greatest heel team of all time. Might watch some Hollywood Blondes matches tonight. |

The adverts have not been cut out of some of these old shows. Hostess Pudding Pies and Lady Remington... Also a WWE plug for Predator featuring Jesse Ventura.
Good nostalgia. |
yeah that's amazing
Dick Graham and Kal Rudman are dressed like Artie Ziff, they look like Artie Ziff and they seem to come from the Mcmahon style of "Oh No!" "Uh Oh!" and "Look Out!" school of commentary.
Bob fucking Backlund is in every God Damn show jumping around in his gay red jacket like a shit head. I sure hope Hogan takes this guy down soon. |
84-85 is virtually backlund-less. though 83 heavily features don muraco. I like the 85-86 shows with Randy Savage being the best fucking heel ever. Get to see some early Hogan vs Savage matches which rules.
Their 3 MSG show set in late 85 is amazing
In retrospect, WM2 really is a masterclass in how to take a "Not very good but hey it's got a sort of quaint charm" show, as was the original WM, and mercilessly wring all the joy out of it.
I really like WM1 and like WM2 but not as much. They way overcomplicated it.

What do you think of Bill Apter?

Yeah... Like I know my gran lived through some wild shit and did some cool stuff but she's still a crazy old bat when you sit her down and listen to her talk.
He 100% believes Benoit didn't do it
I just heard him say that in some shoot interview. He also questioned something else legit as if it was a work but I can't remember what because it made me so angry I said out loud "TO WHAT END, BILL?" and turned it off.
He also has this thing where he asks to put wrestlers he interviews in a figure 4 leg lock.
My girlfriend bought me his book for part of my birthday present. Kinda meh. |
Started my week vacation today. Got some wrestling shows on the itinerary.
Gonna watch the 350 Days documentary Gonna continue my 1997 Raw watch. Just finished the April 14, 1997 Raw. I love doing deep dive projects. I have a September 20, 1980 Madison Square Garden show that I obtained about a year ago that i forgot about. Backlund vs Race Main Event Plus some 80s Memphis Wrestling. |

Oh fuck I completely forgot about Jackson Andrews.
Remember Key?
I really need to know why an old man is putting wrestlers in a figure four
It must be an old person thing.
Ric Flair’s been an old man putting wrestlers in a figure four for twenty years. |
Nobody has tapped for at least 25

Yessir. He was supposed to be Droz and Prince Albert's drug dealer. Key was supposed to be short for "kilo". Made a couple appearances. That's it.
Reminds me of Reddog, or Mad dog, who would later turn into Rodney Mack.
Watched the April 21,1997 episode of Raw. Still enjoying it more than 98 Raw.
Got the Sept. 22 1980 MSG show on with Vince McMahon and Kal Rudman on commentary. This should be amazing. |
lollllllllllllllll Key
only lasts a few weeks in WWF and then goes back to ECW where he and New Jack have their infamous botched balcony fall in my hometown of Danbury, CT |
Holy shit
I remember that guy. |
Just watched the Dark Side of the Ring Macho Man one. Felt it was very rushed. Watching the Brody one. I wish these were 2 hours instead of 45 minutes.

New Jack likes to tell stories. He didn't actually do that. Grimes outshot his landing.
I have such an odd opinion about New Jack. He seems like such a giant piece of shit in the ring but in every interview he is so charming and engaging.
He's alot of bravado, but a captivating interview
Holy shit was the Brody Dark Side of the Ring good
Yeah, loved that episode. Was it known that Brody was looking to buy Gorilla Monsoon's stake in the WWC?
That's the first I've heard of it.
Yeah, I've never heard anyone talk about it.
I've heard that Victor Quinones is Gorilla Monsoon's illegitimate son
I need to quit my job and just watch wrestling full time. This is more enjoyable. Lol watched a lot of wrestling during my vacation so far.

Melodramatic as it seems, you’d think there would be a lot more bastard children in wrestling.
Gino Hernandez was rumored to be Paul Boesch's son
That's probably the most famous one. Where do you lean on that one?
I believe the Gorilla/Victor one way more than Paul and Gino. I don't think it's true
The Gorilla/Quinones one is speculated upon in the affirmative by numerous wrestling biographers. I always consider it true if at least three guys I like mention it in a similar way in their bio's. Unless it's a Wrestlemania 3 or Haku story... Everybody and their mother was there for Wrestlemania 3 and every Haku bar fight.

Paul who? I googled but other forums are very awful. I can only assume Hernandez but any Paul I can think of was born in the forties or later so they'd have to be like 15 to father the guy. |
Gertner, who got over with you that reasonably had no right to?
Stevie Richards and Crash Holly for me. Two smaller, less muscular guys who knew how to wring every drop out of their shitty gimmicks. I really loved seeing those two. |
Paul Bosch
I know what my favourite territory is now. Took a few weeks and a real Network subscription but it's Mid South.
Mid South in 1980's was great. Realism, athleticism... a jobber intro to Michael Jackson... AWA was fun but poor quality as Gertner warned, Memphis was dumb fun with no shortage of gimmicks and I couldn't get past the shortage of cool in WCCW... I tried others a few times including Georgia but my preference is Bill Watts. Ban Noid |
I bet Gertner can name the jobber that intro'd to MJ too. Seems like the sort of thing he'd know. I won't spoil it but he was black so he probably ended up with a title.

Made me think of Ole when you said "the shits".

Quote:
Ragin was definitely his last name. |
Ohhh ok , I know him more as Mark Ragen. He was a protege of the Destroyer Dick Beyer. He got Ragen shots in places that he had no business wrestling.
Yeah he was really bad but his intro was cool and he even tried to dance a bit. They changed him from Thriller to Beat It or Billie Jean when he entered the ring so he had walk down and in-ring music consecutively. No reason why other than to remind people he was black I guess.
Caught up on all the Dark Sides of the Ring
The Brody one is hands down the best, but like I said before, these need to be longer than 45 minutes. They all feel so rushed. |
Is the Montreal one worth watching for someone who has seen all the previous pieces on it, heard every shoot interview from every side imaginable and basically seen the topic discussed ad nauseam?
If you have listened to Cornette's last two podcasts, then no. If you haven't, it's worth checking out
Quote:

Bruce is Bruce, but Hall is a complete moron.
I watched the Montreal one and didn’t think it was anything special. It was all stuff I had heard and seen before.
But lol at Scott Hall claiming he never asked Shawn if it was a work. Get outta here. |
it's ironic that in trying so desperately to be the smartest guy in the room that Hall comes off as so stupid.
Watching Dark Side Of Wrestling because you guys never steer me wrong.
The Bruiser Brody thing... if you asked me what happened I could give you a good run down before I saw this show but I'm surprised how much worse it sounds coming from Tony and Dutch... It's the finer details that make you sick to your stomach hearing this shit. Cold blooded murder... |
Abdullah just making shit up for no reason...
Can anyone lend any more insight into the relationship between Vince and Carlos Colon? There’s got to be something going on there, right? Not specifically in relationship to Brody, just in terms of how well WWE has seemingly looked after him in the past? Seemed WWC had a relationship with WWE even when no one else did.
Eric Bischoff looks ancient now... Damn. Everybody is getting so old.

He still seems "tight" with him. Primo & Epico have had jobs for a decade now. I guess if he really owed him big for something, they might actually get pushed.

A friend of mine showed me some Mid South tapes he had that included a feud between Jim Duggan and Ted Dibiase that started when Duggan got a pair of cufflinks as a reward for being named “wrestler of the year”. Dibiase was pissed because Duggan didn’t even wear shirts.
It was fantastic. |
They feud was amazing. Mid South was so great. I'm glad there's a bunch on the Network.

This thread is almost at 9 pages. Amazing.

Hey Gerty. Vito mentioned a few pages ago that wwe took what could've been a quirky card that could've been charming but got the joy wrung out of it. I've never seen the show. What was specifically bad/underwhelming about WM2?
Quote:

lol Key looks like Mordecai
Oh god it was Vic Grimes. One of Da Baldies. Awful.

Remember that time Bret Hart did an interview via satellite, and he was cutting a serious promo while surrounded by fluffy little dogs? I think it was sometime after Wrestlemania 12.
