Werth got fans here to cheer him just by tipping his cap. I was in that crowd and couldn't believe it lol
You got your homegrown players and your mercenaries. Homegrown guys who've been in the organization and REALLY contribute, you sorta expect them to stick around for life. Mercs work for the highest bidder.
I expected Cano to stay and take a hometown discount for the fans and organization's sake. But Seattle ponied up the cash, and as the song goes "Money Talks". Proper etiquette for matters like this is cheer him his first time at the plate, boo him every other time. It's pretty sad, Jeter's on his last season. How many active players across the league have played for 1 team across their entire career? |
any Yankee fan booing any former-Yankee for selling out and "taking the money" is a bit ironic, no?
Don't know why I even follow the MLB Facebook page, every time they post anything the absolute worst cretins of the internet have to chime in with terrible comments that make me weep for humanity.
(this is true of internet anything but this particular example is currently bothering me) |
I try not to read comments on that stuff because it is that awful.
Like just posted a picture of the Cleveland Indians' pitchers bowling wearing matching V-necks and headbands. Hilarious photo, fantastic. All the comments are the worst and make me not want to like human being lifes.
That sounds like a great photo, for sure.
The Mets and Rockies seem to play at least one 4 game series every year and the Rockies just absolutely obliterate the Mets every single time. I can't be bothered to check the official numbers but I know this is at least the 4th straight year the Rockies have completely bent the Mets over. :(
Cubbies are coming!
Rays DFA Heath Bell.
Remember when he was good? |
No. #heathbellexperience
I like when the Tigers play the Royals
CC only goes 3.2 innings.
Getting to the point where all the batters know what's coming out of his hand these days. |
Glad the Mets could grab one in Colorado. Hopefully they can win the series in Miami.

I dunno though. Easy to say it was a bad trade but Bell's stats sucked for the Mets in 2005 and 2006. Really seemed like a crap-for-crap trade and the Pads just happened to strike gold. I doubt Bell ever would have gotten a chance to close in NY so he may never have reached the levels he did in SD. |
Apparently Dusty Baker is managing the Cubs again because Samarzidja is near 130 pitches.
Sick of these fucking oldass relievers year after year. Sandy - you have like 4-5 legit SP prospects in Triple A and no apparent vacancy in the rotation. If you aren't gonna make a trade, get some of these guys into the pen. I've had enough of Valverde and Farnsworth. Dice-K has been halfway decent in relief but he takes about 3 innings to warm up.
Borrow a philosophy from the Cardinals, the most well-run organization in baseball. Get some of your hard throwing prospects some bullpen exposure. They can't possibly be worse than the geezers in there now. |
Oh the Braves won a game finally. Neat.
Dammit Phillies
Yankees to retire Joe Torre's #6 number with the ceremony itself to occur in August.
so no Yankee will ever wear numbers 1-10 ever again. nice.
Fucking Bud Black. I know the Padres aren't more than a 500 team, if that. But, fuck me, it's like he doesn't even know what getting on base means. He continually bats guys with sub .300 obp at the top of the order on a team that can't score runs. How the fuck does he expect to score at all? Arrrrrg.
Brew Crew got the throwbacks on tonight. I like 'em.
Questionable error call is erased Yu Darvish loses his no-hitter bid with a basehit up the middle by David Ortiz with 2 outs in the ninth.
Thank god Ortiz got that hit. Otherwise it would just be a never-ending media shitstorm about whether or not it was a real no-hitter.
What a stupid thing to say. Fuckin' rough luck for Darvish. He's good enough that I hope he does eventually get his no-no or PG
Quote:
Yep. It would have always been known as the "yeah, but..." no-hitter. Mind it would have been more well known than your average no-hitter, but still.
I think Darvish will get one eventually though. Dude is filthy. |
Rollins. Utley. Howard. No matter how broken down and old the Phillies are, those 3 fucking assholes will always kill the Mets as long as they can physically take the diamond. I wish all 3 could be stricken with some bizarre ailment that causes them excruciating pain when they come within 100 yards of the Mets but otherwise lead perfectly healthy lives. :(
I'm sure Pat Burrell could make a quick return if it would make you feel better, Vito :)
Vito, what's the 411 on Rafael Montero? Is he the goods? Just grabbed him for fantasy.
He's been great in the hitter-friendly AAA. Has some seriously electric stuff. By calling him up now the Mets are basically saying the hell with his potential Super 2 status...but that's fine with me. I was initially worried about debuting Montero in such a pressure cooker series, but he seems ready. Mejia just can't get out of the 5th inning...he's better suited for the bullpen.
Jacob deGrom could be getting the call soon as well to add another power arm to the pen. Best case scenario the Mets dump Valverde and Farnsworth and go all out with the youth movement. |
Tonight's game. Holy cow.
Yankees bullpen sucks right now. Kuroda can't catch a break when he's starting.
Jose Fernandez sounds like he might need Tommy John. Fuck, was one of my fav young pitchers to watch
That sucks. At this point they should just make all pitchers get Tommy John before they get called up. It seems to be a given at this point.
I see you Josh Reddick
I love Masahiro Tanaka and I don't care who knows it
No shame in losing that one. Tanaka is ridiculous.
This Jose Abreu fellow is PrettyGood
Quite the pitchers duel the Yankees & Mets rookies put on last night.
Until Girardi blinked first and pulled Chase Whitley at 74 pitches. Good game regardless. |
Lol Ricky Romero walked 9 batters in 2.2 innings in Triple A tonight.
Wow, just wow. |
Earning his big league spot back for sure!
Does anybody know what a "Chief Baseball Officer" is?
I think an umpire is a baseball officer.
CB Bucknor is the law. |

The MLB At the Ballpark app has a ridiculous feature where you can catalog past games that you've been to all the way back to 2005 and it will spit out ridiculous shit like the Diamondbacks are 23-8 in games I've attended since 2007.
Damn that's sweet. I gotta enter games nice been to in it. Always forget to use the app when im actually physically at games
Usually because in way too bombed to use a phone properly. Woo baseball!
Classic Alburquerque
Every good pitch he throws is followed by 2-3 awful ones |
Red Sox signed Stephen Drew to a 1 year, $10 million deal.
Boston must have been desperate. Drew probably could have gotten more if he hung back till after the Rule 5 draft. More suitors might have came his way.
Because of this, the Red Sox lost a draft pick. |
A bit but also didn't really need Drew either. Red Sox bigger issue was his salary more than the draft pick status which is why they didn't care when he rejected arbitration or the initial offer.
Its possible he could have gotten more suitors later in the season but probably also would have gotten less for money. |
I'm glad it was the Sox pissing away a pick this year instead of the Tigers for signing Drew. Bullet dodged
Why would the Sox lose a pick? The whole point of the qualifying offer is that another team who signs him has to give a pick to Boston. Boston wouldn't have to forfeit anything by signing him.
Cost himself $4 million this year though. |
Drew's classified as a Type A free agent. But I think there's some language in the CBA about he's gotta be on the roster for the entire season.
Hate the draft pick comp tagged on free agents. It hampers their value, and it makes teams who may otherwise look into signing a valuable guy like Drew turn the other cheek. Double negative, baseball fans. Wish they just did away with it.
In Padres news, Andrew Cashner is dl'd with elbow soreness. MRI revealed irritation but nothing serious thus far. Meanwhile, Bud Black continues to baffle me by batting a .277 obp in the 2 hole, and benches a .281/.317 avg/obp centerfielder for one hitting .199/.274. Fucking why? |
And their fucking splits against RHP is about the same, with Maybin hitting better against. I hate our lousy manager.
Chris Davis announced he fixed his swing during BP and then went out and clobbered 3 home runs. I think its fixed.
Edwin Encarsmashion
RP's client, the Chicago Cubs, ended Masahiro Tanaka's streak.
OUR CLIENT, MIKE OLT, CONQUERED THE STREAK.
I'll take that win.
Lol Jesus is Encarnacion ever on fire.
:nono: Red Sox pitching

Soooooooo, Miguel Olivo likes the taste of flesh.
From ESPN.com Miguel Olivo, accused of biting off part of teammate Alex Guerrero's ear in a dugout altercation Tuesday, has been suspended by the Los Angeles Dodgers for his part in the incident. The Dodgers announced Wednesday that Olivo will remain on the suspended list at Triple-A Albuquerque, "pending the completion of an investigation." The Dodgers have had little comment about the altercation, which sent Guerrero to the hospital and could cause him to miss as much as five weeks, according to sources. Agent Scott Boras, who represents Guerrero, said Tuesday that his client needed plastic surgery on his ear as a result of a bite from Olivo. Neither Olivo nor his representatives have commented publicly. Guerrero, the Cuban infielder signed for $28 million this past winter, remained on the Albuquerque roster as of Wednesday evening. According to the Salt Lake City police, Guerrero declined to file a complaint with the police about the incident, which would have been the first step toward criminal prosecution. Last season, Olivo was placed on the restricted list by the Miami Marlins after he left the team without permission. Olivo also has displayed a hot temper on the field before, charging at Jose Reyes and missing with a wild punch during a dustup between the Marlins and New York Mets late in the 2007 season. Ironically, in a spring training interview with Telemundo posted by SB Nation, Olivo said that if he weren't a baseball player, he would like to be a boxer like Mike Tyson -- but without biting an ear off. Tyson infamously bit off part of Evander Holyfield's ear during a 1997 bout. |
lol wow
and wow did not realize the Tyson/Holyfield thing was almost 20 years ago
lol A's got 1-hit last night.......... and won 3-2
The Balkoff between the Indians and Tigers was better.
:nono:
Dodgers released Miguel Olivo today.
Jays fucking the corpse again today.

v disappointed he won't be at Sunday's game. We've got a group of about 20 of us going and really wanted to "give him the business". this is potentially ruining my entire Canadian Memorial Day weekend
Still aint watched a game yet

Yasiel Puig is like your first MLB The Show "Road to the Show" character when you're still trying to learn how to run the bases with the camera angle constantly changing. |
First place Toronto Blue Jays. That Liam Hendricks is a monster.
Ugh. Hi-Sox blew it last night. :(
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Cubs hired Manny Ramirez as their new player-coach for their Triple A team.
Josh Beckett with a no-hitter.
Boston fans are gonna be begging for him to come back now.
The Jays are a J.A Happenin!!!!!!
Love Josh Beckett
Quote:
Still good for him that he appears to be rebounding well after the past few seasons. |
How many more times are the Mets going to let Jose Valverde pitch in meaningful situations? Jesus Christ he is awful.
Well I could've told you that
http://l3.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/MR...nsvalverde.jpg
still my all-time favourite picture of anything ever in the history of anything |
Valverde was awesome for like the first two weeks and I figured maybe Sandy had lucked out. Then he blew that save in Anaheim and that was the end of it.
Mets finally saw enough as they announced Valverde's release the second the game ended. And they've fired the hitting coach. |
This current rough patch for the Tigers' pitching stuff is really something remarkable
Like the camo uniforms everyone got going on today.
Seems like every time I find myself subjected to a Padres game they are wearing some random camo ish
Mets cut Jose Valverde loose and fired hitting coach Dave Hudgens.
We go to Vito Cruz for his thoughts. |
Wooo Blue Jays! Steve Tollefson in your face!
I guess I was lucky to get the free dominoes pizza BC it seems they screwed up. I did log in at 2:57 though...
It's time for Edwin Encarnacion to move on. He's too good for this league.
