I was jumping up n down like a little girl while watching the segment.

Althought it's good for the WWE Product to be PG and follow USA as it remains a clean company with an anti bullying message, I think it's time to reboot it's stars, give Cena a heel role, and bring in Batista and Jericho and give the WWE some more edge and destruction. Bring back backstage brawls, factions like the APA/DX/Evolution, etc, managers. Just look at how well over Alex Riley is now, it was a good job by the WWE.

It's time to give the company a reboot. I wouldn't mind seeing a faction with all the masked wrestlers, even with Kane as it's muscle with his old mask.

owenbrown 06-28-2011 01:33 AM

OH.......MY........GOD!

Papa Schlongo 06-28-2011 01:39 AM

You know what was so cool about this.....CM Punk had the entire arena in the palm of his hands.....they were listening to him.......no what chants....no you sucks......I never seen that before ever, beautifully done.

Papa Schlongo 06-28-2011 01:39 AM

There is no one that could do that....and pull it off so well.

Afterlife 06-28-2011 01:44 AM

Wows me every time.

FearedSanctity 06-28-2011 02:02 AM

What would make this even more incredible is if WWE and ROH had worked something out to actually make this seem more legit. After MitB ROH is off until their first TV tapings in August.

Longshot, but who knows? ROH and WWE seem to have had a working relationship before

Rammsteinmad 06-28-2011 02:29 AM

Wow. Quite possibly one of the greatest promos of all time. Punk nailed that perfectly, and everything, down to his speech to his emotions, facial expressions etc was perfect!

But seriously, at anyone who thinks this isn't a work. Come on, a multi-million dollar company like WWE aren't quite gonna give CM Punk a mic and the freedom to say whatever he wants.

FearedSanctity 06-28-2011 02:34 AM

Yeah, I have no doubt its a work. My only question is, how long is the angle planned for? Is this the beginning of something big? Or is it a last hurrah for Punk and a great way to promote MitB?

Also, I've read that the Kings of Wrestling had a tryout the other day and have offers on the table from WWE. I can only hope that maybe these two things tie in together, though I know that most likely they're totally unrelated

TheAdamEvansFan 06-28-2011 02:40 AM

Its a work, which is why he didnt mention TNA when he said going to defend the title elsewhere.

Also, they probably shut it off when it got to the vince and his personal story due to his wife running for office next year. LOL

You know what I adore most about that promo? Not what was said, but how he said it. It was all in the delivery. No bullshit fake heel righteous anger, just justified logic, palpable passion, and almost a slight note of resignation. Dunno how you can't say Punk isn't the best promo in wrestling right now after that. Excellent.

Fignuts 06-28-2011 03:12 AM

He's not just the best promo. Can't remember a "bad punk match" for the life of me.

Was telling my friend, I feel like he is the Shawn Michaels of this generation. Not in terms of style, but in his consistency in the ring and on the mic.

Fignuts 06-28-2011 03:13 AM

Like, on any given PPV, you can bet Punk's match can make a bidding for match of the night.

Mr. Nerfect 06-28-2011 03:24 AM

That promo was amazing. It was just amazing. I really enjoy my worked-shoot promos, obviously, but Punk's is the first time it's been near a WWE Title program before, and it's got me PUMPED! I can't see myself not ordering Money in the Bank. The sad thing is considering whether or not CM Punk is just arriving as he leaves, so to speak.

The WWE is stupid if they don't give Punk a nice offer.

Londoner 06-28-2011 03:25 AM

fuckin wish i watched raw live now after seeing that promo, thanks vsg for the vid. The ROH/Cabana mention, mentioning Lesnar, etc, fucking hell.

Indeed.

Late to the (very grand) Party:

- Seeing HBK just made me think of something unrelated. Chavo "lost his smile". So, maybe he'll come back in a few years and become a HoF caliber performer.

-HBK (to Punk) "... they know I'm better than you!"
(sign in crowd) PUNK'S BETTER THAN CENA
that made me chuckle for some reason.

- Two parts: first, I wonder exactly how much of this is an angle? I mean, is Punk going on "vacation" of sorts, like MVP or Jericho, or is he working everyone like Jericho was when he went back on his "retirement" for even more heat? Second, I hope he does win. I hope he takes the belt and goes away with it, and, to paraphrase Vince Russo, it becomes the CM Punk Memorial Belt and we never see that piece of shit again! (the belt, not Punk) Then, when he comes back in therabouts a year, he can square off with whoever the face champ is and claim he never lost and is the rightful champ. (/wishful thinking)

-LOL! I don't think the "server crashed", I think WWE got troll'd. Ryan was picked for shits and giggles, and they expected Cara to be picked.

-Speaking of Sin Cara, the in ring lighting is one thing, the outside lack of lighting blows ass. They need to fix that. Just the spotlight isn't cutting it.

- Cole: "You shoulda seen me on the strip!"
King: "Did you say you stripped?"
uuuhhggg... just got a mental image of Cole dressed like Big Dick Johnson, complete with oil and tearaway suit. I would shoop that and post it here so I wouldn't have to suffer alone, but I lack teh skills. My description should be adequate. I highlighted it so it stands out. Enjoy.

- I said it before, I'll say it again: Kingston/Ziggler are each other's Flair/Steamboat. I see the feud and matches between them being spoken of highly in the future as "historic battles".

- Del Rio's entrance isn't the same without Ricardo, even if I can't understand him, he plays the "unwarranted self importance" role for being a ring announcer way to good to not be on TV. :'(

- Quote of the night comes from Mark Henry: "IF I CHARGE FOR AIR, YOU KEEP YOUR BILLS PAID!!!"

- Diva submissions match that doesn't involve Nattie. Interesting direction. AAAARMBAAAR! Ah, the Boston Crab- default submission for someone who doesn't use them, followed closely by the Sharpshooter.

-D D FUCKING P! ... and with a goatee! On my TV!! Well, monitor, but that didn't fit the rhyme scheme.

- A-Ry's "varsity villain" gear and entrance colors make him appear to be a jock for the team the Spirit Squad cheered for.

- Let's be honest here, did you EVER truly think when he first appeared you'd be referring to Miz as a "ring general"? Yeah, me neither. He appeared to be doing most of the heavy lifting in this surprisingly well done match though.

- I personally dig R-Truth's bulletproof/flak/straightjacket-esque vest he's rocking tonight. Unique. I'd wear it if they sold it at WWEShop.com. And that's the truth.

- Holy. Fucking. Shit. I just had to watch that again and soak it in.

"That's right, I'm a Paul Heyman guy." Can I change my "quote of the night" to this entire promo??? Only thing missing were the gorram snow angels!

Punk is channeling Brian fucking Pillman's ECW debut right now, and I love it. This has to be one of the greatest worked shoots in the history of this sport, and that wasn't a Tony Schivone reference. Well, kinda. But I was serious. He verbally ran roughshod almost like SCSA whilst wearing a SCSA shirt AND cost Cena the match. He strung together a masterfully worded promo containing "just enough" doubt as to "is it real?". There was enough ammunition and venom to get teh internets buzzing for days, and in this current age of trending topics and getting a web fix on almost anything electronic, that is saying something. There was enough there for the smarks, yet enough explained that the causals weren't lost on what was going on. If Ryder is Jericho near the end of his tenure in WCW, Punk is Jericho as Unified Champion right now. I just wish they gave him more time before they "cut his mic".

- Full circle: It would be kinda cool if Chavo's departure were part of this, and they formed a team/stable of being "the best, yet underappreciated". Danielson could've benefitted from that too, but he's busy with Cody. (/wishful thinking)

In closing: you people wanted the "Attitude Era" back? We got Rock coming back (intermittently) and cutting Rock promos with little editing. We got a smoking R-Truth. We get this. Looks like the trigger's getting pulled for wish granting.

Fignuts 06-28-2011 04:28 AM

Honestly between the great US title and tornado tag matches, the DDP appearance, Mark Henry, and Punk's promo, this was the best Raw in a long long long time.

No. I lost my head because he said the words "Paul Heyman".

Upon further reflection of that "great yet underappreciated" stable of Punk anc Chavo, I should also add Tyson "I can't keep a manager" Kidd. Yeah.

I had a dream about CM Punk last night. I asked him if he was really leaving? To which he replied negatively. I asked him "for real?". He just looked back at me, gave me a smile and said "Nah, I am just fucking with you kiddo. I am leaving for sure" and he jogged away :(

HBPunk 06-28-2011 12:02 PM

Felt kind of let down by the "abrupt" ending last night...knew something was up when they displayed the SAP/© notice in the corner at EXACTLY 11:00 instead of 11:05. I didn't expect the over-run of 5 minutes, just thought "MEH...they're rushing a match that's not even that great for a main-event anyhow so they can get off the air at EXACTLY 11:05 because USA told them they had to or something." How very wrong I was.

HBPunk 06-28-2011 12:47 PM

Epic Raw. Just watched it. DDP, tornado match, and the end. Just when you think you've seen it all, they re-hash something and it's ben so long we think it's amazing. But omfg, I love it.

It's a work, of course it is, but fuck. Cannot wait to see if they take off with this. Each time something happens (like the Nexus thing, Stone Cold and others swearing.. well, more so than usual) I can't help think we're getting to another stage, post-PG.

Does anyone else think there is enough ego around now to carry something like that off. Miz, Truth, Punk (providing he stays and this is a ruse ;). There's a few others I guess I'm totally forgetting. I dunno, could just be a lot more watch-able if it was to just go with the flow, but they're fuck it up as usual I guess.

Sources report that CM Punk’s entire promo at the end of RAW this week was improvised by Punk and not scripted. Nobody in the back knew what Punk was going to say until he said it live on RAW.

WWE officials told Punk to go out and say in his own words why he was leaving the company, why he wanted the WWE Title and why he wanted to leave with it in his possession. There was a discussion that when officials felt Punk was going too far, they would pull the plug on the segment and cut his mic.

It’s said that Punk was upset months ago when Triple H came back to feud with The Undertaker and while some of his comments on RAW towards Vince McMahon were well thought out to appear not as a shoot to the average viewer, most believe that Punk’s comments towards Triple H and John Laurinaitis were strictly a shoot.

Word also is that Punk had some notes for his speech jotted down on his wrist tape.

As far as his contract status, Punk’s deal apparently expires the second week of July but he signed an extension to work through Money in the Bank. Still with last night’s new storyline development, sources maintain that Punk is leaving at Money in the Bank.

FearedSanctity 06-28-2011 07:13 PM

So it's kinda like I thought then, the plan is to get the most out of him leaving as possible. But now, can they let him? His promo created a massive stir in and out of the wrestling world and people are talking. To actually let him go and carry all this momentum to ROH would be retarded. For WWE anyways, ROH are probably shitting themselves at it even being a possibility

Xero 06-28-2011 07:48 PM

The thing is that Punk leaving, while it does hurt WWE roster-wise, won't hurt them if he goes to another promotion. No promotion is going to be able to keep the steam he has up going for long, and even if they could, it would be a non-threat to WWE.
