Why John Cena beat Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar was told he would be losing to John Cena at Extreme Rules several weeks back. Lesnar has made it clear that he’s about the money, not the ego, and if they want him to lose, he has no problem with it as long as they play fair with him.

According to sources, it was made clear to Cena and Lesnar that their feud would be a one-match program. Officials felt that Lesnar could leave at any time and they needed their top guy getting the win first time out to make sure that it happened.

WWE has already used 5 of Lesnar’s limited dates in the first month of his contract so expect him to be used sparingly if at all over the next few months. With that said, Lesnar vs. Triple H for SummerSlam is in the works.

Source: WON
I guess this probably rules out Cena vs Lesnar at Mania if they never had plans for it to begin with. Also means the WWE is going to work a lot harder to stretch Lesnar to Mania than with the Rock since they knew which dates the Rock was available from his movie work.

CSL 05-03-2012 04:16 PM

dunno, doesn't seem too hard to work around a 30 date maximum from now to Mania, it's about 6 months on, 4 months off. If they bring him back around the end of July for SummerSlam, a couple of months away at the end of the year and they're pretty much sorted

Thats what i mean though, Lawler hasnt done it in any WWE matches in years, his finish as of the last lot of years is the fist drop off the middile turnbuckle. He always goes for the piledriver but it consistantly gets reversed, i cant remember the last time he actually hit it, id guess you're talking 5 years plus.

Considering the amount of manouveres they do allow its suprising that that style of piledriver is still outlawed. The sitout tombstone as we all know can be dodgy, but the variation of piledriver in that vid should be safe for just about any wrestler to deliver with some practice.

CSL 05-03-2012 04:37 PM

but with how many guys they have that aren't "technically proficient"/full on greenhorns etc, it's no surprise. I only mention the 30 years part because of you mentioning "fine at a basketball game". If there's anybody on the face of the earth I'd trust piledrive me on a basketball court, it'd be Lawler. In fact, I'd rather take a piledriver from King on a basketball court than a bunch of WWE guys in a wrestling ring.

And it's not so much piledrivers outlawed as it is head drops in general I think. I can't think of anything off the top of my head (so I could be wrong) that guys are permitted to/do use on a regular basis more dangerous than a piledriver

I figured they would just spread the appearances over the 12 months without any major downtime. Like how he missed the Raw in London. They could have him for 2 out of 4 Raw episodes leading into the PPV. The rest could be pre-recorded backstage interviews/altercation, promos via satellite, etc.

That way they can feature him on every PPV and he can help the buyrate.

Guess they figure it's better to have him for the full schedule in the build to 6-7 PPVs that the full load.

I think he only has 25 dates left now. At least in the Rock's case, the WWE didn't really have to plan out the dates since they knew which dates the Rock was free to use (live or satellite) and he was only used in one feud.

Triple H vs Lesnar is probably going to eat a chunk of the dates left since no way that ends after 1 match/ppv.

WWE probably won't be as bad as TNA was with RVD where they wasted almost all his dates early on and then had to take the title off of him since he couldn't defend it without using up more dates.

once that momentum is gone and both guys are trying too hard to "get it back", everything can go to shit very easily. Guys stop communicating, start rushing etc and it all just falls apart. I'd put money on Swagger not giving him a cue to go for the 2nd attempt because it was live on RAW and he was rushing. Literally can take a split second of mistiming for something like that to happen, especially something like a gutwrench, that relies on timing/fluid motion/momentum etc.

even here you can see the mistiming in the slow motion bit, doesn't look like he sandbags him, seems Stevie's still dipping downwards to spring off and go up when Giant is starting to lift him. Split-second of mistiming and that's how it turns out. If there's even a bit of momentum from Stevie in the right direction, given the fact Show still got him up, he probably soars up and it looks "how it's supposed to". Crazy strength

Wade Barrett currently shooting a film with Colin Farrell, Terrance Howard and Dominic Cooper, directed by the guy that did the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, co-financed by WWE Studios. Prettyyy impressive lineup, by far the most promising cast from anything WWE-related.

Looking back, I'm saddened that neither of Christian's title reigns were as epic as we all would have hoped. But, at the end of the day, the record books will say 'two-time World Champion', and his feud with Orton was, in my opinion, the best feud of the year.

And to be fair, Orton didn't 'need' those title wins, but he busted his ass equally in that feud with Christian. Both men rose to the challenge and gave us an interesting storyline that gave us four consecutive singles matches at PPV events, without getting boring.

Cons:
- Both of his title reigns were pretty weak.

Pros:
- He's a two-time World Champion.
- His first title win was the best moment of the year.
- Best feud of the year.
- Became a legit 'contender' in WWE's eyes.
- Orton 'won over' a lot of the fans who thought he was becoming stale (not related to Christian, but still a result).

I didn't 'blow up' like most people did, but I was saddened then, as I am now. But overall, I'm happy with what came of everything that transpired. :y:

And hopefully Christian will be back in the title hunt when he returns.

CSL 05-04-2012 06:19 PM

Christian dropping the title on Smackdown was possibly the funniest thing to happen in the wrestling forum all year, the reactions were classic

Right, but your original point was that it was surprising they let him do a move he doesn't do often. I was saying he DOES do it often, just not in WWE.

The original post was along the lines of me being suprised that he did it on a basketball court, but WWE is paranoid of it being used in a ring despite the fact he's been doing it for as long as he has.

Holy Shit. Triple H is with Floyd Mayweather in the ring with holding his belt next to 50 Cent and Justin Beiber.

Figure I'd got nothing better to do, and I see this. My night is awesome.

Look, wasn't saying Barrett is shit sight unseen. Just saying being awesome at promos and acting awesome in movies are two different things.

For example: Batista is a decent promo, and he is absolutely fucking abysmal as an actor.

And yet, even as bad as Bats is, he would be automatically legitimised by Terrance fucking Howard!

Wasn't knocking Barrett; was praising TH.

What if Neidhart got the singles push? Would we be talking about the legendary feud and WrestleMania match between Marty Janetty and The Anvil, even as laughable as that sounds being presented here?

Was kind of surreal seeing him w/ the WBC belt next to Fiddy an Biebs

I have told you mother fuckers for years that Triple H is the face of professional wrestling and truly transcends the industry as a cultural icon.

In the same way Justin Bieber and 50 Cent do for music.

:shifty:
