PARASITE - 9/10

This plot is a trip, in a good way. The movie made me nervous multiple times for multiple characters. Some killer cinematography sneaks in too. If you see this, avoid spoilers for it.

I didn't watch the trailer. It helped.

Seanny One Ball 11-16-2019 01:35 PM

Been looking forward to Parasite. There's nothing like a South Korean psychological thriller.
Snowpiercer and OKJA were a bit crap but The Host and Mother are incredible.

ClockShot 11-16-2019 03:42 PM

Parasite - 5/5

Fantastic.

Ford v Ferrari - 9/10

Seanny One Ball 11-17-2019 11:51 PM

Le Mans 66 is called "Ford Vs Ferrari" over there.

Jesus Christ, do races that don't go round in circles just confuse America too much?

Yes.

Spiderman: Far From Home - 4/4

From the hilarious and satisfying take on the "Blip" and the age disparity it creates to the wealth of situational visual gags, the opening of this film is as strong if not stronger than any Marvel film. The interplay between characters and the rapport of the cast is the strength of every great film and this has as much realism in interaction as an Alexander Payne film stripped of the undercurrent.
I particularly love how Tony Stark has become almost a deity and his little message to Peter is just lovely stuff.

Samuel L lays it on very thick as Nick Fury and I'm not really into it so I kinda wish he wasn't involved and Cobie Smulders looks like death warmed up, but those are the only two minor quibbles I have.
Thankfully Martin Starr was there to take the edge off and Ned as usual provides comedy relief for the comedy relief.

I think Zendaya is decent enough but I was more impressed with the girl who played Betty, I think MJ has been underwritten to an extent so hopefully they embed the character a bit deeper into the next story because she should be involved more.

Mysterio kept me guessing, Jake Gyllenhaal has that wonderful ability to turn on a sixpence that great actors should but only a few do or can. I'm glad to see him back in a Blockbuster, just to show he can pick whatever project he wants.

I loved it.

Seanny One Ball 11-18-2019 08:16 PM

Oh, I forgot to mention how immersive the CGI is when it finally comes to the trippy illusions. I would havd loved to have seen that in HD.
I think Mysterio is either the best or certainly one of the best villains in any of the individual Avengers films.

Seanny One Ball 11-18-2019 08:42 PM

I'm gonna be a cool teacher right now. You gotta stop doing that. It is weird. No more phones in the bathroom, urinals OR stalls.

Seanny One Ball 11-18-2019 08:47 PM

I haven't felt my Peter tingle for years

Seanny One Ball 11-18-2019 09:07 PM

Originally rated 3.5/4 but there's no way that it wasn't 4/4 for me really.
This was so good Iim still buzzing off the Spidey vibes.

Brilliant.

Lock Jaw 11-18-2019 09:11 PM

It's no Aquaman

Seanny One Ball 11-18-2019 09:15 PM

1/4 = 12.5% - 25%
1.5/4 = 25% - 37.5%
2/4 = 37.5% - 50%
2.5/4 = 50% - 62.5%
3/4 = 62.5 - 75%
3.5/4 = 75% - 87.5%
4/4 = 87.5 - 100%

I know that looks crazy but that's how I justify my 4/4 "perfect" scores.

You bloody loved Aquaman didn't you.
Good on you, it's great fun and I was planning on watching it again fairly soon.

It's too long though and Amber Heard and Nicole Kidman were awful casting choices

Still, it does have Willem Dafoe on a seahorse.

Lock Jaw 11-18-2019 09:25 PM

I'm just joking, leaning into the meme that I love Aquaman (which I did really enjoy it, but it was blown to meme proportions by Guru Dave).

I did love Far From Home too. Might finally have been a Spider-Man film to top the first two Tobey films for me.

Seanny One Ball 11-18-2019 09:39 PM

These are far better in my opinion. Spiderman is probably my favourite Avenger besides Ant Man now.

Seanny One Ball 11-18-2019 09:46 PM

Spiderman has arguably had the best two villains in the solo MCU films.

Seanny One Ball 11-18-2019 09:58 PM

One thing I noticed was a couple of quite subtle references to Flash having an awful lonely home life. I dunno why but when Peter uses Edith for the first time you can see Flash texting his mother or father saying he hasn't heard from them for days. Then at the end he gets picked up by a chauffeur and asks about them to a negative response.

These are moments that are not acknowledged but show how well fleshed out Spiderman's world is.

I think the reason that is done is because it actually isn't Nick Fury, rather another's attempt at imitating Fury.

Destor 11-19-2019 12:38 PM

The current iteration of slider-man is by far the best. The duality of the character is perfected

LOL, he's not solely an illusion.

Its not nick fury. Its a skrull.

Seanny One Ball 11-19-2019 03:15 PM

Please tell me I don't have to go back and watch that fucking Captain Marvel again.

I'm not falling for that rib.

Seanny One Ball 11-19-2019 03:16 PM

Oh fuck, I didn't watch the post credits.

Right hang on and prepare for my humble apology, El Vaq.

Seanny One Ball 11-19-2019 03:41 PM

Sorry El Vaq, I was talking out of my arse.

Destor 11-19-2019 04:09 PM

Tsk tsk :nono:

Slider man
Slider man
Does whatever a slider can

Seanny One Ball 11-19-2019 11:06 PM

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

RP 11-20-2019 08:43 PM

I watched this movie called The Conspiracy.

Pretty damn good.

" Two young filmmakers select a crazed conspiracy theorist as the subject for their next project, but they soon come to believe that the man isn't as delusional as they originally thought. "

Lock Jaw 11-20-2019 11:07 PM

The Rocketeer - 8/10

Feel like I was "obsessed" with seeing this movie as a youth, but for the life of me I can't remember ever actually seeing it until now. I enjoyed it.

Seanny One Ball 11-20-2019 11:18 PM

I loved it when I was a kid

Black Widow 11-20-2019 11:40 PM

Dukes of Hazzard 2005

Was lame but i do like the show

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 11:19 AM

I always liked "Starsky and Hutch" with Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller. May watch tonight.

El Vaquero de Infierno 11-22-2019 05:50 PM

The Emperor of Paris 7/10

Like a bloody Les Misérables, without the songs.

El Vaquero de Infierno 11-23-2019 01:44 PM

Speed 7.5/10

Even though I've seen the sequel many times, I've never seen the original. A good 90s action flick. Dennis Hopper hams it up as usual, as the bad guy.

Seanny One Ball 11-23-2019 03:20 PM

Jan De Bont should have done more after Speed and Twister but I think Speed 2 wrote him off.

He had his scalp ripped off by a lion too.

Seanny One Ball 11-24-2019 02:20 AM

Looks like Richard Kelly(Donnie Darko, Southland Tales) is directing a Rod Serling biopic. That's an interesting choice and quite a good one.
I wonder who he'll cast. Rod Serling looked 45 until he actually was so you don't want someone too youthful but they need to have a strong, sombre voice and powerful facial features.

Sam Rockwell or Patrick Wilson would be interesting.
I think Jason Patric would be a great shout based on look though.

slik 11-24-2019 02:23 AM

KNIVES OUT - 9.5/10

So fun and a good whodunit. Great cast, good story, funny. One of the best films of 2019 imo possibly.

rez 11-26-2019 10:37 PM

IT Chapter 2. Loved the casting...a lot wrong with it. Chapter 1 was def better. 6.5/10
