Keep practicing.

Super V 04-06-2011 06:14 PM

Well looks like those dlc promises were just to guarantee strong sales and one up blazblue (who delivered on their [albeit pricey] dlc)

Kalyx triaD 04-06-2011 06:28 PM

They never promised AE DLC. Super 4 sold on the strength of it being a great game.

Khuntry 04-07-2011 12:12 AM

A really good interview with Ono.

Kalyx triaD 04-07-2011 12:31 AM

Ono can be a troll but he's a good guy with good ideas toward game design.

Kalyx triaD 04-07-2011 12:20 PM

Video pulled. Notes:

- Will be DLC.
- Reiterates Yun, Yang, E.Ryu, and Oni as new characters.
- Players who do not purchase AE can still play against those who do. This means the balance update may be free but characters and replay enhancements will not.
- Either way expect a major mandatory download.
- Can "choose" which version (SSF4 or AE) to play - so there may be an option to downgrade from main menu.
- Replay options pretty much address everything.
- - Search function.
- - Follow function, like a video twitter you automatically download a player's newest replay.
- - File sharing, send replays to friends.
- - Elite Channel, view replays of anyone above 3000pp.

Not dated, but I'm thinking mid-Summer.

Drakul 04-07-2011 02:41 PM

It looks more and more likely those 4 are the only new characters. Wish there was at least one character to suit my tastes.
I like the sound of enhancements to the replay channel.

DLC is good. Fuck a new disc.

Blitz 04-07-2011 08:30 PM

I'd buy a new disc if they added a few more characters.

GOnna be so many Yuns online when this is out. I'm going for Yang.

Kalyx triaD 04-07-2011 08:51 PM

I foresee Yun getting nerfed when this goes global. No way they're letting him slide.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 04:04 PM

3DS will get AE eventually.

#BROKEN Hasney 04-12-2011 05:25 PM

Unlike the original Super, it's coming to PC. Probably grab that version on Steam.

Makes sense, since the arcade just runs Windows.

Drakul 04-12-2011 05:26 PM

Now, will this be like GTA DLC and the DLC disc where you can only play online with people that have the same format as you or will a AE disc player be able to play with an AE DLC user?

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 05:29 PM

Everybody will be able to play together - the AE rebalance is free. What the buyers get are new replay features and the four new characters. Whether you have DLC or disc you can play against people with the update.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 06:19 PM

Fucking fuck, I was really hoping for a few new characters. Variations on ryu and akuma, and yun and yang (who are pretty similar themselves) Does not make me all that excited.

I'm actually anticipating the improvements to Makoto, more than the new characters. And I doubt that they are hiding any characters, because if there were any more characters, they would advertise them, not keep it a secret.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 06:20 PM

God damn it, I want Alex and Karin.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 06:28 PM

No, just Karin.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 06:36 PM

Shut up, Alex is the man you wanker.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 06:48 PM

I'm sorry.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 07:01 PM

Been watching videos of Makoto and she's fucking brutal. Her lifebar is also up to 1000 now, so it's in line with the average character, and her output has been beefed up too. I've been able to get wins here and there, the way she is now. Got a feeling Funky and his bro are going to hate me using her come AE's release.

Yun and Yang look like they take a lot of damage, and don't have very high damage output at the same time. Outside of chun-li, I don't really use a lot of characters like that, so I dunno if they'll join any of my regulars.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 07:03 PM

Yun is for cowards.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 07:07 PM

Never liked either of them. Sounds like abel is getting nerfed pretty hard. His second ultra in particular is taking some hits, which in all honesty, is fair, because that was the cheapest ultra in the whole game. Might go back to using his first, as it is fairly easy to combo into.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 07:08 PM

Gonna use E.Ryu because I need a new shoto.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 07:17 PM

E.Ryu just seems like ryu with akuma's teleport. Oni Akuma definitely feels more like a new character, though he does share similarities with Gouken.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 07:36 PM

E.Ryu is a shoto, all shotos are Ryu with a few different moves and properties. I've played Ken for ages, back when he really was a Ryu clone with a head sprite swap. The similarities don't begin to bother me. In fact I'm perfectly okay with SF4's shoto friendly roster. They all play differently enough to allow tactics to form. And E.Ryu has enough differences for me to pick him without thinking, "Oh well I should have been playing Ryu all along."

And thematically speaking, I dig the power trip. Classic Ryu is gay.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 07:54 PM

Yeah, wasn't saying you should pick regular ryu. Just commenting on their similarities. I'll probably use him instead of ryu as well for the same "power trip" reasons. Guy just looks badass.

Are they going to be properly balanced for online play? I remember no one picking Sagat or Seth during Vanilla, cause it was considered a dick move. Hope it is not the same for these guys.

Fignuts 04-12-2011 07:57 PM

Honestly I am happy that AE is the last of the updates for SF 4. This means ideas for SF 5 are probably going to start getting thrown around soon. I expect we won't hear anything til after SFxT's release, but you know it is coming. No way do they not follow up on the success of all this.

Kalyx triaD 04-12-2011 08:11 PM

Actually Yun and Fei are the strongest by most accounts. E.Ryu and Oni haven't been out long enough for a final verdict. Other than that the game is still massively balanced. So I guess Yun and Fei are the new 'dick move' choices.

You can bet SF5 is coming sooner than 8/9 years, but it's behind a long assembly line.

#BROKEN Hasney 04-13-2011 01:48 AM

I'd actually get over my hate of generic Tekken characters if he was in SFxT.

It looks like this isn't happening. SSF4 players can play against SSF4:AE purchasers, but only if their lobby is set to Super mode and not AE mode.

D Mac 04-19-2011 07:36 AM

Violence and gore rules. :p

Kalyx triaD 04-19-2011 11:21 AM

The rebalance is free so you can choose to boot up AE even if you just have S4, but without the 4 characters. This is how everybody can play together.

The option to downgrade is to appease bitches who didn't expect their favorite character being nerfed (Guile players I can sympathize with... a little).

Since this is the end song of SF4 Capcom can care less, though AE will probably be the tourny standard as penultimate versions of fighting games tend to be. So be a good warrior and go with AE, kids! Jean Kalyx will!

Kalyx triaD 04-19-2011 11:23 AM

I'm glad you found a fighting game you enjoy, D Mac, but you may not find it easy getting us to understand placing MK above any of our favorite fighters.

Nigga, are you 12?

Anyway, I'm not shitting on Mortal Kombat. The series has a goodish (some parts are fucking stupid) story which is surprisingly well developed for a fighter and has been reasonably fun since it hit the PS2. The problem is that multiplayer is ass because the games are not balanced. Some characters have a beastly set of moves and others are just kinda target practice dummies. I just would like them to focus more on gameplay (like they did this iteration) and less on "look at how much blood shoots out of his nose lol". Potential's always been there, but it's taken too long for the series to come this far.

Kalyx triaD 04-19-2011 08:56 PM

In all honesty, the new MK comes fairly close. Not close enough where SF isn't still blatantly superior to anyone but someone who sucks terribly at SF, though .

Kalyx triaD 05-13-2011 08:54 PM

How many of you are getting a hard copy versus DLC?

Kalyx triaD 05-13-2011 09:26 PM

Hmm... The way players of different versions (Super/AE) are connected is very gracious. There's no reason people can't play together so long as one of them has Super. I assume most will have AE anyway but it's a nice touch.

• There are no balance adjustments over the arcade version — it's just a port of that version.

• Arrange costumes are not included with the game. This is true of both the download and disc versions.

• The costumes that you purchased for the original version of Super Street Fighter IV can be used in Arcade Edition.

• SSF4 and SSF4 Arcade Edition players can play against one-another. However, the gameplay falls back to Super spec in terms of characters, rules and balance [If an AE player plays a Super player].

• For matching, both PS3 and Xbox 360 players will need to download a free Super SFIV Update Kit, which is due for June 7, 2011.

• Rankings will be split into Original and Arcade Edition. Your BP and PP will start off at zero in Arcade Edition.

• Trophies/achievements will carry over from SSF4 into Arcade Edition.

Pre-ordered on Steam today.

Emperor Smeat 05-27-2011 12:56 AM

For those who wanted the Arcade Edition, some bad news concerning the DRM and trying to play the game when in an offline mode.

The DRM will restrict the amount of stuff in the game by over 50% and can even revert the game into a demo-like mode if you lag/disconnect from the servers and don't reconnect in time.

Quote:

That means those who live in regions that aren't supported by Games For Windows Live face a "buyer-beware situation," Svensson writes. That's because the limited offline functionality restricts players to 15 of the game's 39 characters, cuts off access to any DLC you've purchased, and forbids saving any progress in challenges or settings in addition to, of course, not allowing online play or access to replay channels.
Capcom's reasoning for the decision is due to hackers messing up the leaderboards from Super Street Fighter IV but the DRM doesn't actually do anything to solve this situation.

Its actually an improvement from their PSN and XBLA DRM that doesn't allow access to any downloadable titles if the network or the console itself is in offline mode (ex. Final Fight Double Impact).

#BROKEN Hasney 05-27-2011 02:06 AM

It's my flats ISP, it stays connected to XBox/GFWL for a maximum of 3 minutes before disconnecting.

I had a separate line for my 360, but it has my 360's MAC address so only that can use it.

Kalyx triaD 05-27-2011 02:11 AM

I'll tell you all about the game. :(

Let me ask a few questions of the users here and perhaps we can come to a better solution for all folks involved. What I'm proposing is a constructive dialog and I'll take this feedback back to the team.

But first some ground rules for this discussion to be constructive:

Any posts dealing with complaints about GFWL will be summarily ignored and/or deleted depending upon the language used. That is a non-negotiable point at this point in development and it's not constructive to make that an issue. We have used GFWL with no problems on several releases and it works great on SSFIV:AE.

Any posts outright dismissing the need for DRM of some form are also not feasible, especially given the history with SFIV. Sorry, but that's another reality in which we live. Blizzard and Valve both use DRM in their games... and when they do have offline forms, they have reduced functionality/features. This is not new or exclusive in any way to Capcom.

Now, that said, it is in no way our intention to punish legitimate users. That's definitely not the purpose here. It is to attempt to ensure that our content is only enjoyed fully by legitimate users.

Question 1: Without using a secure network authentication mechanism of some kind (SSA, Steam CEG, Impulse GOO, SecuROAM, etc.) how can we validate that a copy is legitimate versus pirated?

Question 2: If it isn't what we've proposed, what form of limitations would be acceptable in the event that there in a "non trusted" mode, assuming that it can be secured?

Question 3: If there were a network validated install and we put in an offline mode that would allow you to have funtionality for some period of time, but require revalidation on a frequent interval, would that be acceptable?

Question 4: There seems to be a lot of supposition that the pirates will instantly crack whatever protections we put in place. One never knows, that could well be true. Personally, I'm not quite as defeatist. One at least has to try. Now, if we promised to "sunset" those protections in the event of a crack being created so that legitimate users don't have a substandard experience to pirates, is that an acceptable solution?

Happy to hear any other proposed solutions that could work and I'll see what we can do with the team.

#BROKEN Hasney 05-27-2011 03:41 AM

Just posted this. Really hope it happens because Steam are being cocks about not cancelling the order.

Quote:

First off, thanks for listening Sven. It is refreshing to see after the Ubisoft debacle. As for the questions:

1) Secure network authentication I can deal with, just not always-on. I can go play Portal 2 offline with no drawbacks right now for up to 3 months if I chose to do so. This, while still slightly restrictive, is a fair trade-off to me. I can't comment on Blizzard as I'm not a fan of RTS so haven't played a newer game.

2) For me personally, take anything away apart from the full character selection for offline Vs. That part is the dealbreaker

3) My grievances come fromthe fact my ISP doesn't work with GFWL/XBox Live for more than 3 minutes due to traffic shaping. If I could briefly sign in and play with full functionality for a couple of weeks, that would be fine with me

4) That would also be a good form of goodwill to your fans. I admire your optimism, but can you point to a game that hasn't been cracked, even with the always-online DRM? Still, once cracked, the cats out of the bag anyway, so removing the DRM would be great.

Capcom listened to complaints and fixed their DRM for the PC version of Super Street Fighter IV (with Arcade Edition included).

Before the game would lock out saving and multiplayer modes while restricting the roster to just 50% when played offline. Now Capcom only restricted the saving ability while leaving everything else untouched for offline play.

Funky Fly 06-08-2011 04:38 PM

Got it last night. Had a fight online against a Yand player while completely trashed. Destryoyed him with T. Hawk then fucked around in practice with Yun. Might definitely pick him up. Gonna fuck around with The other three before my boys get here.

Blitz 06-09-2011 01:08 AM

Spent some serious time with Yang tonight. Palm stuffs a ton and has a far larger hitbox then you'd think, and Tenshin Senkyutai is a godly super. Fantastic for anti air, and even better against fireball spam. Do not try spamming from across the screen with a Ultra gauge'd Yang. You won't like the results.

The bad, he's got piddly damage and seemingly worse defense. I need to work with Seiei Enbu more. But there's definite potential.
