Hey the Phillies won :)
|
I know they are "out of it," but I still get pumped when they win games, especially comebacks. Hate to see teams give up toward the end of the year (or ever, really).
|
hey they only won because Rafael Betancourt's arm exploded
|
Saw the score was 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th, thought we had one and turned off the tv, little notice popped up on my phone as I made my way across the house telling me the score was 5-4.
Just shook my head in sadness. |
Gonna say this whole season turned sour the day the Nats took out Tulo, Cargo and Fowler.

I do like Betancourt, though and feel bad for him :( |
Still can't understand why Charlie was fired. Love him.
|
Feel like Amaro was all "we finished strong going into the break, no improvements needed!" Then brought the axe when "somehow" things still didn't go well.

Would have been interested in seeing Jacob deGrom since he's Rule 5 eligible and needs to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason anyway, but I can see why they wouldn't bother at this point. There will be spots open soon enough. The Mets' 40 man is maxed out as is, and as best I can tell their only way to free up more room would be to transfer Hefner and Mejia to the 60 day DL since their will pitch again this year anyway. I imagine they'll do that to call up Matt den Dekker and probably some random veteran guy who had a good year in the minors. |
FoxSports reports that the Angels are preparing to fire their manager and/or GM this offseason. Both have been bickering at each other ever since 2011 to the point the owner can't stand it anymore.

I'll take Scioscia over Girardi, even with the great job he's done this year.

Also, CC and his 1 big inning per game are becoming as predictable as Phil Hughes with an 0-2 count.
|
Or the Hughes 2-2 home run

You know who is good at hitting baseballs? Mr. Miguel Cabrera.
crossrine |
I wasn't so impressed with the triple crown last year but as I sit here today I am blown away. First time since 67. Fucking amazing.
|
The triple crown doesn't "sound" that good, but if you think about it... it basically means you combine two really good types of hitters. Most hitters who hit for contact/batting average generally aren't good power hitters. Most power hitters usually are "boom or bust" and have middling BA. To lead the league in both BA and HR is pretty incredible. And to even be in the discussion of doing it again this year is simply astounding. Not to get too ahead of anything, but by all accounts it looks like he will finish the season leading in BA and RBIs, and is currently 4 back of Davis for HR. It's not feasible to think he could do it again.
Such a ridiculous player right now. If, by some cruel act of some higher power, it came out that Cabrera was on PEDs of any kind I would actually just give up on baseball because the sport would not be fun for me anymore. HEARTBREAKING, if you will. crossrine |
Peavy.
|
Keep forgetting he's on Boston
crossrine |
also damn, hot series. Boston/LAD? Wish I knew that was going on this weekend
crossrine |
Cubs are so bad. Why not bring up Baez?
|
Yeah, we're in last place. But gotta stay loyal and it was an awesome game today. Vogelsong pitched great, gave up only two hits and really had command of his pitches. Cool to see McCutchen and the Pirates play too.

I feel like the "moneyball era" had tainted the triple crown a bit. People look at those stats as outdated but still, even with appreciating other advanced metrics, the feat of leading the league in the 3 Old standard stats is fucking AMAZING. Cabrera put together perhaps the best hitting season of the last 50 years. |
Matt Harvey has a tear of his UCL and is probably getting Tommy John Surgery...
I'm just at a loss for words. Just when it was looking like 2014 might finally be the year to climb back into contention, this happens. |
numba 2, Derek Jetah, numba 2
|
Phil Hughes will eventually pitch like numba 2
|
Didn't even make the 5th. Typical.
|
Hey the Phillies won :)
|
Still can't get over Harvey. I mean he said he's gonna try to avoid surgery if at all possible. But let's be real, it's a torn UCL. It will always be a concern. I imagine Tommy John is inevitable and it'll knock him out for all of next year.
It's not even the importance of Harvey from a results/contention standpoint. He was legitimately fun to watch. Now to know we probably won't get to watch him do his thing again until 2015 is just deflating. |
Beachy was my favorite Braves' pitcher last year, and I was pretty sad when he went out for Tommy John. I'm hoping news comes out soon that his arm isn't fucked again, but if it is, I'll be sad to miss watching him for basically two years. He pitched some this year, but he never looked great. Guess you can just hope that he comes back stronger after the (probable) surgery.
|
The thought with Harvey is that the constant 90+ MPH sliders he was throwing are what tore up his elbow. He might have to scale it back when he returns, which would be a shame as it's his best pitch.
|
And with the news that Harvey is out, the Mets have put about 5 players through waivers. Marlon Byrd has been claimed by a National League team and a trade is being worked out. Mets were hoping to keep everybody and shoot for .500 but with Harvey gone those plans have evaporated.
Was gonna go Thursday to see Harvey pitch against the Phillies. Doubt I'll bother now. No Wright, no Harvey, probably no Byrd, two bad teams, Carlos Torres pitching. Not really worth the $100+ investment when you factor in tickets, parking, food, gas, tolls, etc. |
If I see one more mouthbreather suggest that Verlander be benched for the playoffs I think I am going to throw my computer out the window
crossrine |
Seems like Vito Cruz is going to be found in his basement, cowering in a corner in the fetal position dressed like Mr. Met.
|
We have a meme for that.
|
Mets trade Marlon Byrd and John Buck to the Pirates for 19 year old Single A 2B Dilson Herrera. Sounds like a decent prospect. Played in the Futures Game.
|
Vito, do you own the Mr. Met pillow pet?
|
Sweet deal for the Pirates. Love Marlon Byrd.
|
Indifferent on John Buck.
|
DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON
|
Fonsie's starting to make me believe we got a shot at the 2nd wild card spot. I know ALOT of things need to happen with other teams in order to pull this off. But I think the Yankees can do this.
|
I agree. I have a feeling that each of the teams involved (Bal, TB, Cle, KC, Oak) could falter and give us a decent chance. Won't believe it til I see it, but it feels possible
|
|
Justin Morneau to Pirates for Alex Presley. Wow.
|
Did not see that coming.

Great move by PBurgh, that's a fantastic move by them 2nd WC spot looks like it may be up for grabs in the AL. NYY getting hot at the right time. |
If the Pirates win the division and got a round or 2 in the playoffs, I think Neal Huntington saved his job for another year or 2.

Wonder how screech feels about that trade...
|
I liked Michael Young :(
|
And he speaks! Naw, I agree, I like Mike Young and I don't like seeing him with the Dodgers.

Tigers called up Castellanos wooooooo. I love me some #ANDYDIRKSBASEBALL but having Castellanos in LF would be amazing

Ike Davis strained oblique, likely done for the year. Assuming that's the end, he'll finish with a line of .205/9/33. 101 K's in only 317 AB. He only just got over the Mendoza line for the first time all season like 2 weeks ago.
I had such high hopes for Ike. But with him eligible for his 2nd year of arbitration, I'd say there's a 50/50 shot of him getting non-tendered. Depends on if the Mets feel they can make a play for Abreu or find an acceptable alternative for around the same price Ike will be making (roughly $3.5 million). What's kinda fucked is that $3.5 million would be an INCREASE for Ike after such a shitty year. Technically, the Mets can offer him the exact same salary as this year, or even 80% of this year's salary. But it never happens. Regardless of what the rules say, everybody gets an increase in arbitration whether they deserve it or not. |
The Astros first team officially eliminated from Division and Wildcard. Miami has a magic number of 2 to be the second.
|
Can't wait for the Yankees to close the season against the 'Stros.

Daisuke Matsuzaka is not a good pitcher.

Games like the Red Sux-Yanks games the last 2 nights are the reason a large amount of people dislike baseball. Exciting if you have a rooting interest, but long and boring in a lot of spots. That's why I praise NL West baseball so much. Give me some games under 3 hours.

Allegedly, the MLB season will be continuing until late October.

Finally.... Win 82 for the Pirates!!!!

Yeah. Gerrit Cole was the winning Pitcher tonight. That being said...

That's neat. They deserve it.

Jays AAA team with special appearances by Double E is looking pretty good.

Is it 2014 yet?

Reds win 6 of 7 from Cards/Dodgers, get shut out by the Cubs.
