Mr. Nerfect 04-04-2022 05:59 AM

Pretty fucking surreal the WWE put together not only one, but two great nights of wrestling. And it seems like they have plenty of stuff set up coming out of it too. You can’t complain about them finally getting good. I hope they keep at it.

XL 04-04-2022 06:18 AM

Hope they send Steveson immediately to the PC to do some work on his presence. Charisma is a more tricky one, but just having presence is gonna be the first hurdle for him to get over. That’s the difference with a Logan Paul. Could also do with doing some crunches to avoid the Corbin problem.

XL 04-04-2022 06:18 AM

But the dude is 21.

That’s where I fall. He’s barely had time to process winning the NCAA. Then he’s thrown in front of stadium full of people.

XL 04-04-2022 06:29 AM

Oh absolutely. I do think presence is usually something that comes naturally though. Confidence will come with experience and maybe confidence is part of presence. It will depend on if WWE can hold back on having him front and centre immediately to capitalise on his Olympic and NCAA wins, in which case I think he’ll pick up some stink like Mark Henry did when he debuted far too soon.

Mr. Nerfect 04-04-2022 06:57 AM

You might be right. I think a difference between him and Mark Henry is that Gable will be able to do the moves and high spots that get the people into his athletic talent. And when he gets used to doing his shit in front of people, and they start to get into him, it might give him more to react to in terms of developing a persona.

He’s going to have Brock, Roman, Heyman and probably a bunch of other guys going out of their way to try and bring it out of him too.

Mr. Nerfect 04-04-2022 07:20 AM

Chad Gable is a treasure. RKBro should not split up. Let them be a money team. You’ve got Edge & Priest, Styles & Balor, a potential heel run for the Profits. There’s star potential in all these teams. So glad to see tag team wrestling actually mattering.

Gable Steveson is green as goose shit, of course. But this was a pretty smart and special way to introduce him. He’s got the Gable vs. Gable thing and he can look as good as possible when that happens.

Bobby Lashley is not someone I would have actually considered a great worker a few years ago. But he’s really got it all together and feels like a top guy. Think it’s good he won this. Omos has a long way to go. He seems to be getting pieces of it. But his look, his work — it all needs to come together a bit better. Omos should be a bodyguard for some heels.

Whoever put together the visual idea of Omos making Bobby Lashley look small should be praised. I didn’t think it would look as effective as it did.

Sami Zayn and Johnny Knoxville would not normally be my thing. But holy fuck did they go out there to entertain. It wasn’t as offensive as a lot of other wrestling that tries to be this kind of spectacle can be. It suits Johnny Knoxville to be out there doing this stuff, lol. Knoxville > Zayn > Bryan

The women’s tag…I get what they are going for. I get that they all worked hard. They got a bit of time. A face team won and they want us to care about those belts. I can imagine people who like Sasha or want this tag team thing to take off being into this. And yeah, I can see them trying to heat up the division. But multi-team tags are hard tl care about if they don’t have Chad Gable in them.

It’s pretty unbelievable Edge is doing what he’s doing. I loved his gear for some reason. AJ’s too. You can tell this meant the world to them and they busted ass. I’m just not that into the story around this yet. That can very easily change with the inclusion of Damian Priest and maybe other players.

The New Day got their spot. Second time they’ve lost to Sheamus at Mania. In fact, that happened the last time they were in Texas, didn’t it?

Pat McAfee/Austin Theory/Vince McMahon/Steve Austin…just pure electricity. Love that feeling you get when you really want Austin to come out, then he fucking comes out! So easy. Pat McAfee is great. Austin Theory “gets it.”

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar did exactly the sort of match that you would expect from them. 7 years in the making. 20 years if you count Brock beating Rock in 2002 as him striking out against the family.

Rammsteinmad 04-04-2022 07:55 AM

When was the last time Lesnar had a match where he wasn't speared through the barricade?

XL 04-04-2022 08:03 AM

Vs. Theory at MSG? Elimination Chamber. But before that probably vs. Drew at WM36 (although I’m not sure that he didn’t go through it then).

Mr. Nerfect 04-04-2022 08:07 AM

Brock is such a great worker.

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say about the show. Night 1 was a lot better but Night 2 was fun. Somehow the Knoxville/Zayn match stands out along with the McAfee/Thery/McMahon/Austin segement.

I wish I enjoyed AJ/Edge more, I just got really tired during that match and almost fell asleep. The main event satisfied me, no complaints.

Reports that Roman may be injured legit, you can see his triceps very red and swollen.

Evil Vito 04-04-2022 08:39 AM

I thought the main event kinda sucked and I don't blame either guy for it at all because they are stellar workers. They were just following the same template they were told to follow.

When Brock first did the German Suplex/finisher spam match back on Cena it totally worked because it was totally unexpected and a complete deviation from the norm.

Either guy doing that match with someone like Goldberg also makes total sense because it's Goldberg, he's old and his selling point is his explosiveness, so going right to finishers out of the gate is the best option.

But Brock and Roman are both great wrestlers, they don't have to do a finisher spam match. Moreover, they've already done a finisher spam match at Mania 4 years ago, if I recall correctly Roman got hit with like 7 F5s or something. So to do the same kind of match again just felt...meh. WM31 was pretty easily the best of their 3 Mania confrontations IMO.

XL 04-04-2022 08:49 AM

My thoughts exactly. The heavy fire, signature/finisher spam thing doesn’t do it for me.

XL 04-04-2022 08:54 AM

There’s a horrible irony in Boogs’ injury; they used a fake leg injury in the build up to the match only for him to legit blow it out. Poor guy.

drave 04-04-2022 09:01 AM

Found the lesnar / reigns match good at the start, but went downhill quickly. As soon as the ref was out, it was the "same shit, different night".

Blah. Lackluster finish too. Don't think you need to spam finishers or anything, but you can definitely build the finish better than THAT.

James Steele 04-04-2022 09:12 AM

Everyone gushes over Reigns work, but it is very tired at this point. Shitty CGI Roman going supersayan, Horseteeth, Acknowledge Me, Superman Punch, Spear, "...only 4 men have held the WWE Title longer...", every once in awhile throw in some Uso interference.

Gerard 04-04-2022 10:26 AM

Christ, Vince taking that stunner was like a zombie from the walking dead taking one. He nearly gets knocked on his ass by a kick he knows is coming, then stumbles around for a moment or 2 only to totally fail at taking the stunner.

Jordan 04-04-2022 10:28 AM

It was so funny seeing how it cracked Austin up though. Funny as hell.

XL 04-04-2022 10:49 AM

I didn’t catch it when I was first “watching” but have since watched it back and I cracked up. My 3 and a half year old was like “Why are you laughing, daddy?”

#1-norm-fan 04-04-2022 11:04 AM

I wonder if Vince got an earful from Vince when he walked through the curtain.

Fignuts 04-04-2022 11:05 AM

Vince missing his cue and being scared and afraid of Theory's music was hilarious as well.

James Steele 04-04-2022 11:16 AM

The Austin/Owens and the Vince/McAfee/Theory/Austin segments were just completely bizarre and felt like an out of body experience.

Lock Jaw 04-04-2022 12:12 PM

Despite my better judgement starting to watch Day 2 now.... be prepared to suffer a parade of Lock Jaw posts....
