Just bought Persona 5. Bout to start it up. Had to put that kick ass skin on my controller first lol, was pretty annoying because I get anal about things like that and have to make them perfect. There is always that one little air bubble that makes me want to destroy all humans. Did the best I could.

Destor 09-27-2017 01:37 PM

I spent...far too long on that...

Destor 09-27-2017 01:37 PM

Let me know if you love it half as much as I do though...

I know, but I've always been of the mindset that a game doesn't officially exist until it gets an official announcement.

I expect Gearbox to make an official announcement probably in late 2018-early 2019.

Also, somehow managed to liberate the capital of Medici, Citate Di Ravello, which is MASSIVE. Deactivating the 8 monitoring systems across the city in under 3 minutes was a real son of a bitch, but I persevered and finally did it.

That game was so much better than I expected it to be. I can only imagine how great a GTA campaign would be with that kind of freeform gameplay.

More on point though, the monitoring systems were often the most difficult part of liberating any settlement in that game to me. I found myself basically resolved to failing most of them on the first try just so I could learn where all the monitors were roughly located and plan out a better route for my second attempt.

LOL as soon as I realized I was going to fail one I would just go find a good spot to hide where I could wait it out....the usual result of me getting a 3 star wanted level was blowing up some choppers and going up to 5 really quick lol.

Sepholio 09-29-2017 10:56 AM

So I got started on Persona 5. I am digging the story and setting very much so far, but God does the whole "tutorial" section at the beginning of the game take for-freaking-EVER. Just give me freedom already, I GET IT.

The only gripes I have is the HUD is a bit intrusive and that annoying border around the screen in dungeons. I get why the border is there but still wish there was an option to turn that shit off. Would be so much better without it and a couple elements of the HUD.

The battle system is fantastic for a turn based RPG too. Like...REALLY fantastic. Favorite one since Lost Odyssey.

Sepholio 09-29-2017 10:57 AM

Also this game scores a 37,000,000,000,000/10 in the style department.

LMAO, yeah, I learned that tactic pretty quick too. I'd just avoid the chopper's deadly RRoD target circle and try to tether them to something strong enough to pull them down in flames with.

I do think the AI might be sorta broken in some way as pertains to wanted levels, especially at lv. 1 and 2, as there was several times where I'd "hide" in plain view of the cops from building roofs, some I swear would look dead at me and the timer would just tick away as others looked in my direction and ran around like chickens with their heads cut off, and I'd somehow be in the clear.

El Vaquero de Infierno 09-30-2017 11:44 AM

Completed Witcher 3 and the two DLCs (at least the main stories).

Detzlaff was a whiney cunt, but a bastard to kill.

Installing Dishonoured 2, and should probably be able to play that at some point in the middle of the week.

Destor 09-30-2017 11:47 AM

The plot of that dlc was so damn good

Destor 09-30-2017 11:47 AM

Well the whole game

Emperor Smeat 09-30-2017 03:52 PM

Got my hands on a SNES Classic and played Yoshi's Island the most so far.

Think the farthest I ever gotten before with the game was somewhere in either World 3 or 4.

It would be like playing KH after playing KH2. The story holds up but the gameplay is a step back...wpuld depend on how cheap you could snag it for imo.

Sepholio 10-01-2017 01:59 PM

I would say its still worth playing in the long run. All The Witcher games are greatness in my book. I've been on board since day 1 though so I don't know what it would be like going back to 2 for the first time after having played 3.

Sepholio 10-01-2017 02:03 PM

Persona 5 is greatness on so many levels. One of the first mini bosses is basically a mutated severed penis head. It was so glorious and disturbing and just generally wtf hilarious all at the same time.

Wasn't expecting the craziness of all the shit talk in this game either. So crass and over the top and just excellent given the setting. Makes me laugh constantly. Just finished the first dungeon and am currently in the downtime afterwards just going about my daily life. It's weird just doing normal daily activities like this, but I find it weirdly enjoyable. Who would have thought just going to the movies, hitting up the ramen shop, going to the bathhouse and then brewing some coffee before bed would be so fun?

Sepholio 10-01-2017 02:04 PM

Also could someone tell me how to become a guinea pig for a hot punk rock doctor in real life?

I genuinly love the party too.

Sepholio 10-03-2017 08:18 AM

Ryuji is one of the greatest party members of all time. He's so hype bro.

Ultra Mantis 10-03-2017 06:20 PM

Been playing through FFXII Zodiac Age, it was always my least favourite of the PS1-PS2 era but after XIII and XV I've mellowed on it. I've reached the part where the story just suddenly stops so it's gotten very grindy, the last two times I've replayed on the PS2 I never made it to Archades. There is a double speed option now though which I have admittedly had on 90% of the time.

On the plus side, the monster design on this game has always been top notch, Hunts are still the best part and the Bestiary itself is incredible. They removed the Sky Pirates Den though, loved that gimmick, trophies before trophies was a thing. Having strict job classes seems to work a lot better than the open license board in the original, though I am finding myself massively overpowered as a result.

Hopefully I'll reach the finish this time, although I did pick up a copy of Persona 5 and all this talk is making me want to jump into that.

Destor 10-03-2017 06:27 PM

DO IT

Sepholio 10-03-2017 09:05 PM

I would agree with Destor but since you've never finished FFXII I'd say stick it out this time. It's really pretty good in the long run. Not one of my favorites, but definitely one of the better ones in the series. Id probably have it ranked in like 6th place in terms of FF games.

Destor 10-03-2017 09:13 PM

Combat is great...story is one of the most forgettable. More of a middle of the pack ff for me. Would have to think about it...

DAMN iNATOR 10-04-2017 06:01 PM

So worth the wait.

Gonna try to finish the story for MvC: Infinite.

Then stick with some of the games on the SNES Classic until Assassins' Creed Origins comes out. Blow through that and start working on the backlog until next year.

First exclusive to make me want an xbone. But not enough to pony up that money

Sepholio 10-05-2017 11:30 PM

Yeah I wouldn't buy it at this point either if you haven't already. I've had one since launch and I probably regret it more than any console purchase I've ever made, honestly. Even more than the WiiU.

Besides the next generation is likely only a couple years out at the most at this point. Might as well wait for the XboxTwo720X

Destor 10-06-2017 12:05 AM

Finished the 2nd palace tonight. Had 13 days left or so. Really got a good handle on how to spend my time outside of dungeons. Made great social stat progress.

Fignuts 10-06-2017 05:16 AM

Barely touch my PS4. Don't doubt that it has better exclusives. But the Heisenberg World Order plays on Xbox, and that's more entertaining than any exclusive.

Ultra Mantis 10-06-2017 12:17 PM

Zodiac Age is so much easier than the original FFXII, I've been squashing all the elite marks without even changing my Gambits, Quickenings don't use MP so you can do 50-100% damage on most bosses for free. I don't think it will take much longer to finish tbh.

I'm on the 3rd now for the first time. Starting to get a bit harder, too.

Sepholio 10-06-2017 01:54 PM

Also I'm focusing more on the confidant levels than the social stats atm. Not ignoring them, but I want those confidant abilities ASAP. Some of them are ridiculous. I got Ryuji maxed already. Was very pleased with what happens when you max a party members confidant rank.

Destor 10-06-2017 02:03 PM

In my head hose were lumped, but yeah. Ive spread them about thiugh instead of maxing individuals. Speech perk tree seems like its going to be good as well.

Im on...6/3 i think...?

If inplayed 12 before is it worth a replay?

Ultra Mantis 10-06-2017 02:31 PM

With the combat being the main draw I think the vanilla version is more fun at its core. That said, I do like the job system because you need to use all of your party rather than just having six clones to swap in and I guess you could just not use Quickenings (or limit them to finishing moves) and not buy all the battle lores immediately to give yourself more of a balanced experience.

Fast forward button is also great for traversing, I've only been going at normal speed for bosses, it doesn't speed up the music or dialogue so it's pretty seamless. Finished Great Crystal at around 35 hours and I've been doing hunts, optional espers and sidequests with two characters near maxed on licenses and nobody over level 45. For replaying purposes it definitely provides a more streamlined experience but I kind of regret going all in with double LP accessories early on.

Locke 10-06-2017 04:57 PM

Quickenings were mostly useless I remember, they hardly did much damage. The key to battles in FFXII (haven't played zodiac age) was setting up killer gambits

Ultra Mantis 10-06-2017 05:25 PM

They do fuckloads of damage in Zodiac Age and you always have it fully charged after touching a crystal, MP use doesn't lower the gauge anymore. I was hitting 5 figures early game once I unlocked the level 3s, you can one shot bosses with one good chain and if you don't you can just switch in the other three characters for another go. I never used them in vanilla because to get a good chain you needed full MP on everyone and then when it finished your MP was usually all gone.

Destor 10-07-2017 05:02 PM

Feel like P5 needs its own thread...

Cleared the 3rd palace in one day. Earned it tho.

Destor 10-07-2017 05:03 PM

Sans calling card of course

Sepholio 10-08-2017 01:53 AM

Same here. I grinded a ton in there though. Spent all my lewt on SP regen accessories prior to going in. Let enemies put me to sleep to regen more. Kept demanding lewt from enemies until they refused lol. Fused some ridic personas compared to what was previously available. I was strong enough by the end to actually capture one of those demonic avengers (the miniboss standing around the button that unlocks the 3rd vault in the main area). When I saw one spawn in a random battle deeper into that 3rd vault and noticed it had a level number (29 I think) how could I not grind it out to catch one?

Sepholio 10-08-2017 01:56 AM

Between Yen and treasure I came out of there with over 500k lol. Mind you I rerun dungeons after sending the calling card out to get the treasures again since most of them seem to respawn for some odd reason and you can get a number of the treasure demons to spawn as well for massive loot and yen. Plus I can't leave those pesky locked chests just sitting there. The ones in there have great shit for Makota.

Destor 10-08-2017 12:35 PM

My best persona is on that looks like the frost giant from disneys hercules...no clue what its name is... but its nul for both melee and ranged. The boss could do damage to joker outside of his charge attack...

Sepholio 10-08-2017 12:43 PM

Don't think I've gotten that one yet. Sounds useful. Let me know its name when you find out.

Phoenix is extremely useful if you don't have one yet. Has the racarn ability (revive with 50% health) very early on. Think it had diarama as well. Thinking of duplicating a media with yusuke and adding that to it as well, but wait until I get the mid level version of that spell before going that route.

Sepholio 10-08-2017 12:45 PM

I also have a pretty sweet Nue (The sphinx mini boss from palace 2) that has nearly every element at his disposal for weakspot abuse. Allows me to not have to worry about whether or not a persona I am replacing has a specific element or not.

Edit: For the record I fused him to get him so that I could choose to inherit most of those elemental attacks he has, they aren't standard on him.

Destor 10-08-2017 01:16 PM

Turned it on just for your sake:Shiki-Ouji

I dont field morgana and have him do the healing. I have the rez spell on shiki though juuuuuuuust in case.

I start combat though with Jikokuten as he casts the defense buff at the start of combat but i switch off immediately. Joker has and AoE of every element most of which are on on memeber....wish i had gone single target but the lvl rare persona had aoes so i loaded up a fusion...

Destor 10-08-2017 03:49 PM

Also the house keeping perk is the best

ClockShot 10-08-2017 07:55 PM

Beat Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite this morning. Just, didn't have that magic previous games had.

Went into my PS4 library and downloaded Darksiders 2. Scratched the surface, but I'm liking it so far. Nice to hear Michael Wincott's voice again.

I don't field morgana or ann for this reason a lot of the time. If they run out of SP I just switch them in and equip a regen accessory and go fight a few easy battles to build them back up then go right back to grinding. Gonna have to start fielding ann now though, got her to level 10 now as well and she has my strongest weapon atm, not to mention her follow up attack is OP.

Locke 10-08-2017 09:07 PM

just got

XENOBLADE CHRONICLES

the first one for wii, it's catchy, 8 hours in and they're still tossing fuckin tutorials at me though, that's a shit

it's a bit of learning, battle system is cool but kind of confusing, seems to be pretty fast paced, you're always switching through different skills and "arts" and shit. they do that annoying shit that new JRPGs do though where they give you three party members and only let you control one and you just have to hope the AI does what you want, and if your main person dies then you get game over. just give me back my menu based combat, dammit.

also got Star Fox Zero - Yeah giving my Wii U some use and the games are cheapish now, this is cool I guess, again though just fucking let me play Star Fox, I know how it works, you don't have to tutorial me through the first level of fucking Star Fox, they never did on SNES or N64. No patience for tutorials, god damn, just wish games were simple enough that you didn't even need fuckin tutorials. but uh, it's okay, kinda annoying with the motion controls. only played one level. it came with Star Fox Guard which is this tower defense game but you play from the POV of the towers and... eh. i love tower defense, but it's a little different from what i like. so we'll see.

Locke 10-08-2017 09:12 PM

Are there any tower defense games akin to Warcraft 3/Frozen Throne online tower defense/maul, that was the peak of tower defense games IMO.

Kinda don't think I need to dignify this... because... you know...*

I was on board with the idea when I first heard about it for a multitude of reasons. Chief among them was the whole 30's cartoon vibe that this game fully commits to short of licencing Bimbo, Bosko, Betty Boop, and any other possible early toons whose names start with "B". But OTHER reasons, like the underwhelming Mighty No. 9 and Yooka-Laylee and other underwhelming kickstarted titles helping derail the hype train. Still took a chance on this (and Ghost of a Tale), and super glad I did. Something something Steamboat Willie fan on prom night.

I remember a Penny Arcade comic called "The Megaman 9 Effect", and felt the same way whilst playing this. Especially if you're lucky enough to share a couch with someone (which I was, much like like with Scott Pilgrim before the DLC). There are some nitpicky issues, like the fact that:

a) parrys, supers, specials, and knockouts don't offer frames of invincibility directly after use. Knockouts in particular... man, you don't know how many times I've killed a boss just to have one of those parting shots nail me and all that work just evaporated.

b) time only stops on activation of a superspecials, not use... which I don't know if was intentional or not, but on spots where you have to pay attenton to not only the target but the environment (like Grim Matchstick), you can screw yourself.

c) Lack of preview for powerups. Considering you are committed to a purchase, it would be nice to see what you're getting yourself into when your coins are at a premium. While nothing is really "unneccessary", some weapons/items are situationally better, and if you don't know that beforehand, tough shit, because you already bought something else and you're stuck with it as it basically saves what you've done.

d) Super specials must be used if gained. There are times where your meter gets 100% full, but I just wanted to use the regular special because of shot timing. It would be nice to toggle each independently instead of adding meter monitoring to the layered patterns and bullet hell.

e) Kinda goes back to a with the parry, but for the second player revive: if you die while reviving your partner at the apex of your jump, fuck you, because they can't reach.

Don't know if any of that is intentional for the "Nintendo hard" difficulty or an oversight. What I do know is that all of that together seems to make things more frustrating that it seems like it should be.

However...

Nothing I said is actually anywhere close to being a deal breaker. Cue up all the "GIT GUD" you can muster, because it is pretty much like trying to plow through Contra without "the code" the first time you ever played it. The art and music direction is obviously astounding, but it actually has an added effect of making you less likely to smash your controller against the wall because you just can't stay mad at it no mater how many "this isn't even my final form" baddies cut you down. Repeatedly. Without mercy. Because of the bossrush-y nature of the thing, it's fairly easy to take on as much at a time as you want. Spend some hours or kill a few spare minutes on a couple of tries. Fun either way.

As much as a lot of big budget titles are going into the loot box sausage factory and going all in with microtransactions, this is a refreshing change in every way, and it feels almost shameful that I'm getting more enjoyment from a $20 download than a $60+ juggernaut looking to bleed people dry. I can only hope whenever Bloodstained shows up, it will also steer clear of being a disappointing shitshow, and even more hope that there is more of this on the way in the future.

TL;DR - Buy it if you can, survive if it lets you!

*future proofing: my current avatar is from said game. It will undoubtedly change at some point and have impact on my comment, if anyone gives a shit by then.

Sepholio 10-09-2017 08:31 PM

Palace #4. Yes. Yes. Yes!

Anns rank 10 upgrade is also very cool.

Tom Guycott 10-09-2017 11:37 PM

Although this is more gushing about Cuphead, it's also something there needs to be more of in general: custom button mapping.

I've never quite understood how, as systems have gotten more and more complex over the years and "more like PC", this is one thing that has gotten more scarce than it already is in the console side of things. Fighting games have mostly maintained it, and maybe some shooters. Sort-of (changing entire control schemes), but sometimes I might just want to swap "jump" and "fire" because it makes more sense to me. I like it when games allow free reign of function assignment.

Ultra Mantis 10-13-2017 11:29 PM

FFXII update: Beat Yiazmat in like 45 minutes at level 70, pretty much doing other stuff and just reselecting a party leader when I got KO'd. Absolute auto-pilot of a superboss. Omega Mk XII on the other hand wrecked me and nearly gave me a rare game over, plus there's a boss rush mode where he's even worse then you immediately have to fight all five judges at once and they all use elixirs and one of them has status nukes. Absolute nightmare. Those three fights have been the only real challenge I've found with it though, a couple of the Espers were solid battles, Zodiark, Ultima and Cuchulainn probably. Just have to wrap up the "story" then there was some other game I think I wanted to play...

RP 10-14-2017 11:12 PM

So i'm playing Silpheed: Lost Planet on ps2. I love shmups. The game is cool. Decent. But there is one major issue. There is no way to save progress at all. I learned the hardway.

RP 10-14-2017 11:22 PM

I also cant get my mic to work at all. I cant hear people talk. They cant hear me talk. I see them talking. I've tried everything. I cant figure it out.

Ruien 10-15-2017 10:46 AM

Started playing Recore again. Having played since the free upgrade came out. Love this game.

Ultra Mantis 10-15-2017 12:38 PM

Vayne is such a weak villain I guess it's fitting that he would go down in less than a minute to my OP gang of tagalongs.

SPOILER: show
Overall I think the story was on the weaker side of the series, the political style was overly complicated and the Emperor, Senate and Judges were all ultimately superfluous considering they ate up so much screen time. Even weirder considering it was the Emperor who gave to order to nuke Nabudis and assassinate King Dalmasca, not Vayne. All Vayne really did was blow up a couple of airships and order Gabranth to kill Drace. He was Seymour with none of the build or payoff. Cid and Gabranth were much stronger characters. Basch ending up living as Gabranth was a pretty cool finish, as was Balthier and Fran seemingly sacrificing themselves. I knew they didn't actually die because I've played Revenant Wings but I popped for that final exchange "You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies" "I'd say you're in more of a supporting role".

As FF games go, it's still my least favourite of the PS1-PS2 era. I'd put it over most(?) of the NES/SNES games and the XIII trilogy. Hard to say in comparison to XV since I feel like they more or less share the same strengths and weaknesses. Decent.

Locke 10-16-2017 07:24 AM

If you like killing shit and feeling like a badass, this is the fucking game.

Destor 10-17-2017 11:11 AM

How does it rank vs the origional? Like an add on or a true sequel?

Fignuts 10-17-2017 02:35 PM

They didn't mess with the formula, but there is way more than just an add on. Combat and stealth have a lot of new abilities to unlock. Orcs have additional strength and weakness possibilities. The regions are more diverse in appearance. Big thing is the army building though. That adds a whole new aspect to the game.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

Also got The Witcher 3: GOTY edition for $30, no idea when I'll start that though.

Not a fan of the tank bot in Recore. The new storyline is interesting enough though. Hopefully the entire expac does not revolve around the new corebot.

Built up a good selection of captains in shadow of war, and took on my first fortress. Was a lot of fun and HOLY SHIT can this game fill the screen with a lot of dudes. Didn't get to face the overlord for story reasons, so that was gay. Next one though.

The army building stuff has a lot of neat features. You can assign certain captains for the assault on the fortress, and upgrade them so they go into battle with a battalion of trolls, suicide bombers, a big siege beast, etc. Theres a bunch of stuff. Before the fortress assault, you can do cool stuff with them. You can assign them to go kill another captain. Then you can participate in the fight and help him win. You can assign one of them as your bodyguard. Then you can summon him whenever you want to help in battle and even give him commands to stealthily kill other orcs. The other command I unlocked is infiltration, which gets the captain close to one of the war chiefs, who are the overlords second in command. then they'll get him alone and you both can take him out. I had two captains infiltrate so it was 3v1. Killing war chiefs reduces the fortresses defenses. Might be more commands that I haven't got to yet.

Even without all the new army building stuff, there were a ton of cool mechanics in this game, but this just sends it into the stratosphere. Might end up replacing something on my top 5 of this generation list.

Whow. Recores new expansion thing was super short. Wish the game was more popular to get a sequel. It has so much upside and it a wonderful concept.

Ruien 10-18-2017 10:17 PM

Heck. Even the last dungeon was literally just the king of the new cult which was basically a mini boss.

El Vaquero de Infierno 10-21-2017 11:26 AM

Completed Dishonoured 2 as Corvo; went the low chaos route. I'm going to play again as Emily, but be a murderous psycho bitch.

I don't think it was as good as the first game.

A.J.K 10-28-2017 09:56 PM

Sepholio 11-13-2017 01:30 AM

Finished Persona 5 recently. GREAT game. Just blazed through The Fractured But Whole which was also a good time.

Now I'm playing Horzion Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. More of the great gameplay but with better story telling. Already can tell that I want more after this.

Ruien 11-13-2017 08:04 AM

Moves on to Halo 2. Probably just going to beat them all in heroic mode but not go back and do legendary. It is a lot of Halo.

DAMN iNATOR 11-13-2017 10:50 PM

Well played. :shifty:

I didn't have to wait. I played it six years and a half ago. Why is that game of all games getting a reboot on the Switch?

Because money. DUH.

Also, by the 1-year anniversary of the Switch release, it's already expected to have outsold the Wii U. Naturally with the huge sales success, a lot of third-party developers are jumping on board the Switch train.

Additionally, it's kind of a test to see if the game sells well. If so, Rockstar will likely develop new Switch-exclusive IPs. Same with Bethesda porting Skyrim to Switch. It's a testing of the waters, so to speak.

Interrogation options have been re-labeled from "Truth" to "Good Cop" (X/A), "Doubt" to "Bad Cop" (Sq/X), and "Lie" to "Accuse" (Tr/Y).
