That is some FAN logic

You’d tell that old fuck what he wants to hear so he’d leave you alone.

He probably shows them his press pass or something

Mr. Nerfect 08-26-2022 11:02 PM

I’m sure that’s how all the sickos get what they want from Hot Topic.

XL 08-27-2022 08:31 AM

Loving the idea of Dave working his way around every Hot Topic in America on a one-man mission to collect sales data for AEW shirts.

screech 08-27-2022 08:49 AM

He'd probably get people to pay to watch that as a web series

Damian Rey 2.0 08-27-2022 11:45 AM

Confidential finances Lmaooooo dude just asked if the shirts are selling well. He’s not giving away sales figures and quarterly reports lol

He just does one and then makes up the rest. Each episode is a different concept.

Mr. Nerfect 08-27-2022 12:47 PM

Dave talks to one woman about blood in wrestling, reaches a conclusion. He talks to one teenage kid about what wrestling they like, there’s his data.

Fignuts 08-27-2022 02:58 PM

They had game play demo of Fight Forever at gamescom, and credit where it's due, it looks genuinely reminiscent of the old n64 games. Much more than any other titles that made the same claim. Of course looking reminiscent and feeling reminiscent are two different things, so we'll have to wait and see.

But I'm a little more optimistic than I was before.

Mr. Nerfect 08-27-2022 04:56 PM

So much of the magic of WWF No Mercy was in the time. Wrestling was hot and people cared enough to play with you. It was also fitting for the N64 platform at the time. I get people want to go back, but trying to make a game that looks like that and mimics what would now be seen as limitations is not necessarily a good move. You take what works and move it forward appropriately.

Maybe this grossly over-budget game that has seen the lead developer jump ship is that? It does LOOK like a bare-bones, less colorful No Mercy. But it’s got a LONG way to go to capture the charm. And stupid mini-games aren’t going to do it.

Mr. Nerfect 08-27-2022 04:57 PM

I understand the optimism. Hope in one hand…

Fignuts 08-27-2022 05:01 PM

Well I'm just talking about the game play which is timeless really. People still enjoy playing those games today after all. Advancing the formula to modern times would involve the rest of the feature set, and it remains to be seen if it does that.

Destor 08-27-2022 06:18 PM

No Mercy plays great to this day. Its fluid and responsive. Its easy to pick up and play. With a roster update wwe could release "wwf no mercy 2022" tomorrow and it would work. AEWs game look solid in presentation but im need to feel it. Like any fighting game it has to feel the way you intuitively expect it to. Cant judge that with my eyes.

Jordan 08-28-2022 08:05 AM

Wrestling games don't really make sense and can't be accurate because wrestling isn't real so therefore to do it accurately is basically like playing "Broadway the video game".

drave 08-28-2022 08:53 AM

You've not played the N64 games, I see.

You might be overthinking it a bit.

Destor 08-28-2022 09:36 AM

Wrestling gamed shouldnt be trying to be accurate. They should be arcade fighting games. The sim approach from the modern 2k games are awful because theyre sim and not arcade.

I played one of the newer WWE games a bit a couple years ago and there was a “GM mode” that seemed to try to mix EWR-style stuff in while also making the events unscripted. It was a mess. Couldn’t get into it.

Mr. Nerfect 08-29-2022 03:54 AM

It seems to be a common sentiment that AEW “used to be better.” I dunno — I thought it was always the shits. Orange Cassidy and goofy segments like magic cameras catching MJF hiring hitmen were barriers of entry for me.

A lot of the guys who were there at the beginning are either still in the same spot or in worse spots. The Acclaimed might be getting a title shot at the PPV, but who cares? AEW is not the place to develop.

Evil Vito 08-29-2022 08:56 AM

I think those comments on the segments are fair criticism. I also think in some ways it might be a function of them having more time than talent for a couple of years and now it feels like the opposite is true.

AEW were great at rotating talent in and out in the early days. You'd rarely ever see someone wrestle two Dynamites in a row, but with the size of the roster they were able to give pretty much everyone some shine in the 2 weeks. Now their roster has gotten to the point where they've clearly identified a handful of talents they want to feature every week, but the roster is so big now everyone else on the rotation is lucky to wrestle on TV once a month, if that.

Some of their pre-tapes are cool and all of that, guys like Miro, House of Black, Andrade etc have all done good work with that. But it does get to the point where it feels like just stalling for time before they get them back in a match.

6 hours of TV across 2 weeks should still be plenty of time to get everyone important a match.

XL 08-29-2022 09:22 AM

Some guys don’t need the ring time. For me as long as there is some sort of feature for the talent between a match, in-ring segment, backstage interview, vignette, recap then you’re good to go. The issue is they’ve so many talents and so much to fit in it’s too much per episode and I forget what’s happened. It’s a very, very delicate balance.

This is a similar problem to the 3hr Raw. By the time you’ve gotten to a certain marker you’ve forgotten what has happened before, which buries it. Emphasis is so important. You can’t emphasize everything, and AEW has so much stuff that needs emphasis that cannot get it.

And while you’re right about not everyone needing ring time, from the talent’s perspective they might not be getting enough, which is going to cause problems when deals come up, etc.

Mr. Nerfect 08-29-2022 12:23 PM

I don’t think it was posted here, but FTR are apparently not in the AEW video game. Former Tag Champs and guys currently with three different sets of belts — can’t get in. There’s continued scuttlebutt that the roster is not going to be very comprehensive.

The video game usually comes with some big licensing fees, so FTR are not happy about not being included in/being dropped from the game.

drave 08-29-2022 01:14 PM

The other place has the same problem with their roster by the time their games are available for purchase. This is not a new, nor unique problem to AEW.

So Cody is still in the game, but not FTR lol. I could create a wrestler in No Mercy in about 5 minutes, yet they couldn't make generic wrestler bald and generic wrestler hair for the game 20+ years later??? Fucking AEW man

Who was the most glaring omission from the latest WWE game?

They are generally within under 2 year accuracy, wiki tells me FTR joined AEW in 2020

I think it depends heavily on what your strengths are. A guy like Ricochet needs ring time as that’s the thing to get people to hook into him, where as a guy with more personality/ability to cut a promo can get over that way. I guess in AEW there’s more “Ricochets” than not, but when you’re 1 of 50 “Ricochets” I guess it’s a tough spot. Ultimately there’s just far too many guys they’re trying to keep spotlighted, as you say.

Abadon signed in June 2020. FTR debuted May 27th 2020. Seems crazy that Abadon would make the cut and FTR wouldn’t. Unless a) they decided she makes a good character for a video game and/or b) wanted her in to flesh out the womens roster.

FTR seems like a huge omission.

Dude. Noid reported personally that FTR are not happy about this. That trumps whatever source YOU’RE presenting, which appears to be… *reads article*… FTR themselves…

I mean, I wouldn't blame anyone if the person to blame was in the ear of the guy who signs my checks, either.

Now, if Rosa suddenly gets omitted, I am gonna laugh.
